What happened to Versailles? My favorite dish... Pollo encebollado, was yucky. The Chuletas de Puerco also, no bueno. They should have called us in advance to ask if we wanted something else instead. The potato balls were already in the to-go bag (the just assumed we were okay with the food exchange). As a Cuban born I can say I was so disappointed with the food here. I ordered the oxtails and they were dried meat with the the greasy sauce poured over it. The plaintains were drenched with grease on the same plate! The worst black bean ever! I just looked at them and it was a paste. Never even tasted them. This is my second time , first time I guess I didn't give a review ?! What we had was great . Calamari steak was very very good , chicken " steak " with garlic and onion was amazing as well . Rice was just normal rice , beans were normal black beans . If I may make a comment .... it lacked a little bit of salt . However I understand they have to cater to everyone and I may eat more salty than other ...not that I am aware of it , but who knows ? Bottom line is I had to add black pepper and salt . Did you know that they bottle that magical garlic sauce? Yes, they do! I vow that this bottle will be a staple in my refrigerator door. I could stock up on multiple bottles at a time, but what would be the fun in that? One bottle at a time; that way, I have an excuse to drop by for some garlic chicken and plantains every time I run out of my garlic marinade. Honestly, where else can you find street parking, friendly service, cheap prices, a grade of 'A' from health and sanitary inspections, and amazing Cuban food but in southern Cali? If I can walk and drive, I'm going to try to get my butt over to Versailles every time I'm home. It was my first time at this location though. For $10 each we got a lunch special complete with rice and beans, fried plantains and a drink. My lechon asado was not at all dry, juicy enough to hydrate my dehydrated self, and so comforting it was like Cali was opening its arms to me for a hug that said, 'Welcome home, Mari. We missed you.' Mmm... maybe that's a little hallucinatory but the waiter was so friendly I wanted to call him 'uncle.' My one teensy weensy gripe is that the lechon was waaay tangier than the other location's. I was experiencing some serious heartburn. I would've rathered my pork was left more untouched so I could've tasted it better but that's personal preference. Eventually a group of cops came in on their lunch break and I suddenly realized my parking meter was soon to be out of money so we left. Not without feeling extremely drunk off roast pork and rice. It's been a long time since I'd been here. And boy was I in for a surprise. Cuban chicken was supposed to be marinated in a mixture of vinegar, lots of garlic , sour orange juice or lime. This chicken wasn't that good anymore, don't taste like it was marinated at all. Chicken meat was bland just fried covered with sauce mixture of garlic and vinegar. I used to crave for this chicken while I was pregnant with my son, ate here once a week to get my fix for a straight 7-8 months. So I can tell something ain't right. Taste buds can't lie. I was hungry so I was able to eat half of my chicken. Sorry Versailles you've lost that love and feeling. It's laughable that Angelenos think this place is so good. It's really so far from good and average at best. Resembles middle America with 95% of the customers being clinically obese. Maybe it's the carbs from the rice, beans, plantains and high sodium in the meats. I've been here a couple of times and it just doesn't cut it on any level. Someone who has never heard of Cuban could probably prepare a better Cuban meal in their kitchen at home. Since I tend to stay away from meat I order the veggie plate. There's nothing remarkable about any of the items. Service is fast and friendly and the prices are reasonable. Sangria is horrible and the food really is just bland filler. Carbs for a morning run but not a place that I need to eat at again. Probably the worse plantains around. Best Cuban food in LA! This is not just something people say, it's quite literally true. The waiters here have worked here no less than ten years, all have amazing customer service and are extremely attentive. The prices are perfect and the food quality never fails. I have been eating here easily twenty years now and it remains my favorite restaurant in LA. The bread, the avocado salad drizzled with olive oil, sprinkle with a little salt & pepper paired with Yuca frita make an incredible beginning to the meal yet to come. Once their famous garlic chicken arrives with their delicious white rice, black beans and fried perfectly sweet platanos, life all makes perfect sense again lol. I'm really struggling on this rating. Versailles was such a good restaurant. Tonight, it was a bitter disappointment mostly due to the service. The waiter was really not that nice. He was very short and dry with us with no sense of hospitality. Every time we asked him for something, he acted like we were bothering him. When we asked him for one last refill, he sighed annoyed and asked "are you done?" pointing to the dishes and not acknowledging our request. He was just borderline rude. I think it's safe to say, I won't be back anytime soon. There are other small cuban places with grateful employees and friendly service. read more

This location has the exact same menu and the same wonderful flavors in the dishes. The orders: The Jerry ordered the Famoso Pollo - 1/2 chicken, onions, fried plantains, black beans and rice (isn't that part of the lyrics for "Baby Got Back"?) SO ordered the Pulled Pork - comes with the same sides Basket full of buttered bread and water for drinks. Finished it off with Cuban Flan - nice sauce with this thick, heavier flan. read more

We asked the server for his recommendation and he suggested the ox tail stew or the combo plate with chicken and pork. Snacked on the garlic bread before our meal came out and sipped on our pitcher of sangria. The dinner plates were huge. My ox tail stew was the better dish. The meat was super tender and very well braised. The chicken was good, fresh and juicy but like the pork, both were heavy on the lemon. I didn't really care for the black beans, very bland and under seasoned. The plantains were well cooked and I rather enjoyed them. Over all the service was awesome and I enjoyed my meal. After a long drive home from Big Sur/Monterey/Carmel, we were just hungry and wanted something good to eat when a friend suggested this spot. She said when she lived in the area, she used to come here all the time and it's usually very busy and packed. Intrigued after she said Cuban food, I was down to go! We parked in the shared plaza parking lot and it was packed! The lot itself was small, so having this restaurant be so popular, the parking spots got taken up even thought it was a Sunday night, just slightly a little past the normal dinner time already. We found street parking and walked into the restaurant where we quickly got seated. The restaurant itself isn't fancy looking with wonderful wall decor or ambiance, but you can tell the food was authentic since the customers were repeats who bring their kids and keep coming back. I ordered the traditional Lomo Saltado and it was pretty good. The rice was nice and fluffy and the meat tender to eat. The only complaint I have would be their sauce was a little too sweet for my taste, but still completely edible. My friends also quickly polished off their meals of Combinacion De Pollo y Puerco and the Yuca Rellena (Stuffed Yucca). Overall, still pretty good and worth a try! read more

Mmm...I really love Cuban restaurants. There's something about them that are always fascinating to me from the laid-back service to the really delicious food variants. Versailles was an interesting one to tackle. Its a pretty jovial place with food that packs a punch and isn't for everyone, but for those that love these two aspects of any place, Versailles is most likely for you. The food itself is pretty varied from chicken to pork dishes along with a decent array of drinks from wines to beer bottles (they do have a happy hour I think I saw on a sign although I didn't catch the times). Expect the cost to be around $10-$15 average per meal. I had the #6, Famous Garlic Chicken and the yucca frittas. They also throw in some delicious free buttered bread at the beginning. The Garlic Chicken came with rice, black beans, platains and onions. The yucca frittas were not bad. Perhaps the yucca itself was a bit too stuck together and so the pieces were a bit random but the sauce itself gave off what I love about this restaurant - pungent and strong flavors. Its a very sour sauce that is delicious with the yucca. The same holds true with the garlic chicken. At first, it may just look like a big plate of normal food (which it is) but soaking in the chicken on the bottom is this rich, sour sauce that is pretty fantastic. Its strong in flavor and makes the seasoned chicken all the more better. The platains were dipped in here too and as odd as it sounds, makes for a good combo. Admittedly, the rice was very plain and the beans were nothing too special along with a very haphazard presentation. Still, the flavors of the other dishes were definitely worth the price of admission. The restaurant decor is pretty plain but open. I saw lots of groups (and a ton of birthday singing) when I went there and the atmosphere is pretty loud. The waiter was very straightforward but quick and efficient. So all-in-all, Versailles was a lot of fun with a very sour and power-packed taste that you'll be want to make sure you like before going. It definitely left an impression on me. read more

I love the food at Versailles, and the service at this location really stands out. The wait staff is friendly, helpful, and goes out of their way to make you feel at home. I love the #6 Chicken, it's just amazing, they don't just call this dish famous, the chicken is so delicious, it has earned this title. Also the #15 lamb is to DIE for, the herbs in the wine sauce are a perfect compliment to the meat. Don't waste your time deciding between beans or rice, go right to the moros, it's a little bit of heaven in your mouth. The standout dish for me was the bistec picado (I think it was #16?), holy moley! That meat is cooked just right and the vegetables and sauce are in complete harmony... I don't eat a lot of beef, and luckily I only visit this place for a special treat because I'd order this every day if I could. And those plantains! Oh yes... the plantains! I used to love this restaurant but tonight I ordered the Garlic Shrimp and it was inedible. Terrible and tasted like soap. It was a delivery so I couldn't send it back. For the price and the horrible taste, I will NEVER order from Versailles again. Over-priced for food that tastes like soap I will happily avoid. This location is constantly getting orders wrong. we come from Burbank to get food to go. Almost every time out food is incorrect. They charge extra for garlic sauce but yet they NEVER give it. I called to see if they could do anything. They offered me a free soda. Seriously? A soda. The sauce is $3.25. And it's happened SEVERAL times. A freaking soda???? Your service sucks big time. And your manager is totally useless. Not to mention your chicken is DRY. I go there for the garlic sauce which I NEVER get even though I pay for it.
