They get big bonus points for being willing to make any of their special pizzas without cheese, as the bf has a dairy allergy going on. Via Tribunali is so far the best pizza I've had in Seattle. Good thin crust (not too thin), usually generous on the toppings, good quality ingredients. It is not the best pizza I've ever had. But so far it comes closer than anyplace else in the city to a good Neapolitan pizza. I am surprised no one has mentioned The Lady On The Box. If you order carry out you will receive a box with an extremely well endowed pizzarista on it. Not really a problem, but it surprises me every time. I mean, it's a pretty sexy pizza box. Delicious pizza and nutella calzone! I loooove that you get a giant pair of scissors to cut your pizza :) I went with the pizza which had broccolini and sausage and mozzarella, YUM. I also tried the Margarita BOC and was even more impressed with that one. This location was VERY friendly and accommodating when we wanted to bring a large group in for dinner at the last minute! We were told by the Capital Hill location that there was absolutely no way we would get seated and they "don't split up parties by table" so when we called this one they were more than happy and quickly moved tables around for us - they also turned the loud music WAY down after my dad requested they do so. I went here with the kids at 5:15 pm and the place was packed. I realized it was Happy Hour here from 5-6. Was in town for vacation, staying at a house a few blocks away. I've eaten at probably 10-15 VPN pizzerias, and honestly I don't recall a better one. Perfectly cooked, high quality ingredients. I had the Bufalina D.O.C. Good list of salads (I had the tri-color/ricotta) and wine as well. The place is a little more hipster than I prefer, but the service was great. I have lived in Queen Anne since February and tried this restaurant for the first time tonight. Never going back. I ordered the $14 lasagna dinner for takeout. This is hands down the best pizza in Seattle. The wood fired crust is amazing, the sauces are the bomb, and the toppings are always fresh and packed with flavor. My favorite is the Americana but I love trying all of the different pizzas they have to offer and I have yet to try a pizza I don't like. The burrata is to die for and they have amazing tiramisu. I went here with my husband and a friend. When we walked in it was a little busy on a very cold and rainy evening. After being inside a couple of minutes, someone finally approached us and we expected to be greeted and asked how many in our party. Instead, the hostess said to us and another group, "Don't block the door. Wait at the bar or stand outside." After a couple of minutes, she finally returned and checked us in. Whilst waiting, we observed her role her eyes multiple times when new parties arrived and others were complaining as to her attitude as well. Our waitress was polite, but not overly welcoming. Our drink from the bar (dirty martini) arrived watered down (which we assumed the bar tender left it in the ice too long). The waitress replaced it and apologized. Overall, the pizza was good, the waitress was good, but the overall experience was not one that will ever bring us back. I'd rather have a nice evening out with friends and family, rather than eating at a place with great food and feel like an inconvenience and that my business wasn't appreciated. The experience ruined the evening. It didn't feel as if the staff were overwhelmed and the customer service was lackluster at best. Skip this restaurant. I'd highly recommend the Masonry over this restaurant in LQA next to UPS and kitty-corner to Metropolitan Market. Much different ambiance, but better pizza and service. read more

Via Tribunali is amazing! This is one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle now. It is so intimate and cozy and the food is top notch. I hadn't been until recently when going with a couple fellow lovely Yelpers. We had a great time. Items I've had are the nutella calzone, the marinara, margherita, and salame happy hour pizzas which are only $5 each during happy hour, the margherita D.O.C.,the Dante, and the buffalo mozzarealla and proscuitto antipasti which is to die for. Happy hour is every night after 10pm with the $5 pizzas and cheap 1/2 pitchers of wine. I have loved every item. A friend suggested drizzling chili oil on the pizza and this takes the pizza to a whole different level. Delicious. The flavors are so simple and the ingredients really shine. I recently came to this location of Via Tribunali with Yelp gal pal Kathleen M for a relaxing dinner. I'm a fan of the franchise and was excited to check out one of their other locations. It was a Tuesday night and there was no wait to get a table. We split their simple yet delicious house salad--with baby greens, a light vinaigrette, fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, kalamata olives and big chunks of tuna. For our pizza we had the "lasagna," which was a savory blend of tomatoes, basil, mozzarella, prosciutto and ricotta cheese. We also got a carafe of the house red, which went down great with our dinner. For dessert the server talked us into their nutella calzone--which was exactly as delicious as it sounds. The only thing that detracted from our evening was a really annoying blinking neon sign in their front window. Enough with the blinking! It is too distracting--and frankly it detracts from the otherwise classy atmosphere at this upscale pizza joint. read more

This place does not suck. Lady and I tried the one in Georgetown and had a pretty bad experience overall, but this Queen Anne location was like night and day in comparison. Lovely interior, friendly staff and food that may have tasted better because of the previous improvements alone. The two pizzas were thin crusted and crispy, not all floppy and difficult. The farmer's market pizza was yummy as hell with generous amounts of fresh basil, marinated tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese. The arugula pizza was very good if a tad salty, with kalamata olives and ricotta. I could have used some scissors to cut the pizzas with, but I guess you need to ask for them as we saw other diners with them. Next time. The tiramisu and the cannoli desserts were decadent and deliciously evil. We'll be back. Via looked so so promising, but didn't so anything to help Seattle's extreme lack of quality pizza. Reservations at 7 and got seated close to 7:40. That isn't acceptable. The pizzas themselves have tasty toppings, although they could use a little more 'umph' in flavor. The mushrooms were sadly plain and rubbery. The cheeses were good, however, as were the various meats. No topping can make up for bad crust though, and I was very disappointed in Via's crust. The edges are nice, chewy and singed from the oven, but the center is as limp as wet cardboard. Not only do you have to eat most of the slice using a knife and fork, but it's more like eating a lasagna noodle with toppings than it's like eating pizza. Sampled the Mezza Luna Di Nutella for dessert and found it uninspired. This is really just pizza crust, spread with nutella, and folded over like a calzone. It tastes like, wait for it, pizza crust dipped in nutella. That's not bad, but that isn't trying very hard. You could bring your own bottle and save your crust from dinner. The starts are mostly for the atmosphere. It's got a dark and rich ambiance that makes it very cozy on a rainy night. The back 'room' is great for a group and it's quiet enough to have a conversation. read more

The Trib was snotty in service and sloppy in food quality. I was so hopeful and overlooked the aloof hostess, the harried server and the cramped (and not in the fun Euro way) quarters. So I was directed to this place by a trusty cohort. He's now off my trustworthy list. When we arrived we were seated at a small table right by the door that was very small considering they had 3 of the 4 booths open at the time. It would have been nice to be offered a better table considering they were readily available when we arrived. By the time we left the booths were filled with mostly 2 tops...I was really bummed then. We were then offered tap or sparkling water twice before we were offered any other beverages (we had the wine list for almost ten min). The waitress came back with our waters and asked if wed like to order. We ordered two glasses of wine, and then were asked if we'd like to order dinner. We were not really ready yet, but felt pressured as she just stood there. About 3 min later our pizzas arrived, BEFORE OUR DRINKS. I was astonished and quite frankly in disbelief. I asked the gentlemen who ran our food if he could inquire about our beverages. He left and returned with them promptly. So now we had our meal in place we dug in. The pizzas we ordered, SALSICCIA E PROVOLA and the PROSCIUTTO CRUDO, were very visually appealing. However the prices were $15 and $16 respectively. For those prices Id assume a rather plentiful arrangement of the toppings, or at the very least I should be able to identify everything on the menu...not the case at all. The crust around the outside was delicious, and my saving grace for the whole meal. Luckily the pizza I ordered had no sauce so the inside wasn't too soggy. However the other pizza we got did have tomato sauce and was limp and quite frankly disgusting. Pros: Good Wine (Even when it comes after your entrees), Good Crust. When my ultra-sophisticated foodie friend insisted we eat here for her birthday dinner, I knew it'd be more than just "pizza". Yep, these pies are something special. They've got locations sprinkled throughout Seattle, but the Queen Anne spot feels legitimately local, tucked off the main drag. It's pretty small, with some tall wooden booths, a few tables and a visible kitchen with a big white brick oven. There's a little bar in the back, which would be perfect for a solo cocktail outting, complete with handsome bartender. After being offered a prime booth seat, we immediately ordered a liter of house red wine for $30-something. Seemed a little steep for basic table swill, but we sure drank our money's worth! To pair, we did the Parma Insalata (admittedly simple; slightly overpriced) and two pizzas: the Puttanesca (anchovy, olive, caper) and the Salsiccia Cipolla (sausage + onion). They don't offer many crazy complex combos, which saddened me a bit because I dig the weird, adventurous toppings, but if you're a pizza purist you'll surely love their old-school menu. The crust (because it's all about the crust, right?) is that perfect oven-charred balance of thin-but-still-bubbly, crispy and chewy crust. The photos will help illustrate... Everything was tasty, authentic, and filling. I'm pretty spoiled with amazing pizzerias in the SF Bay Area, but Via Tribunali is definitely a spot I'd return to if gourmet, thin-crust, wood-oven pizza was my craving "del giorno." read more

UPDATE: I found a Via Tribunali replacement, so now all I have to review is the lacking service at their Queen Anne location. I am sorry to report that I had more than one visit to this location of the pizzaria. The other times I'd gone the service hadn't been stellar. It was slow and usually the servers make you feel like a burden when you come in for late night happy hour at the end of their shift, but nothing was bad enough to prompt me to write a negative review until my last visit. I was with a friend and we were a bit too early for the happy hour deal. No worries, we ordered one of their regular pizzas. If you have been to Via Tribunali you know that their crust is pretty thin and their pizzas aren't exceptionally large. The friend I was with also happens to be a strapping lad of 6'5" who knows how to eat. I let him take most of the first pizza, because I knew we could just order the smaller $5 happy hour pies if we were still hungry. Well we were, and this was just what we did. As I was finishing off my last few bites, the waitress comes by and asks me "Have you had enough to eat yet?" It was hard to tell if this was actually intended as rudely as it came off, but there was no hint of a smile and her serious expression seemed to say she wasn't kidding. It sure caught me off guard and it was the icing on the cake after already lack-luster service. Not only was there no apology when she brought the (overpriced for what we got) check, there wasn't even a basic "thanks for coming in" as we left. Overall, food was bland and the service wasn't great. This probably isn't going to be a popular review, but I'm compelled to share my experience because it was our first time dining here and we were surprised at how far off our expectations were to reality. I would choose Serious Pie, Tutta Bella, Veraci, Seattle Wood Fired Pizza on 15th or even Elemental over Via Trib any day, based on tonight's experience. The food-service combo we received tonight was so unusually bush league for a Seattle favorite like Via Trib, we are really wondering if the use of the Travelzoo had anything to do with it? As first time diners, the deal was a great opportunity for us try VT out over our other wood-fired pizza favorites. Do restaurant deals give customers the illusion of a great value, but really are you getting what you pay for? FIRST IMPRESSIONS, ATMOSPHERE & SEATING We were seated immediately with a choice of bar seating or outside in their side alley. The weather was nice, so we chose patio (plus, the bar space was small, elbow-to-elbow with lots of staff traffic). The patio tables were quite small and the metal chairs were somewhat uncomfortable, but the combination of the zig-zagging globe string lights, relicked brick and herb planters gave a rustic, intimate, feel of an authentic Italian pizzeria. The entire restaurant gives off this charming vibe. We informed our server of our Travelzoo voucher right before he took our drink orders. He seemed very aware of the deal and gave us a rundown of what the voucher entailed. We ordered: DRINKS I ordered a house red ($6) and my friend ordered a Stella on draft ($6). We received drinks in a reasonable time, about 5-10 minutes after ordering. Decent. PRIMIS / APPETIZERS We ordered the Polpette Al Pomodoro-hand-made veal meatballs, pomodoro finish ($13) and the Pomodori Al Forno-tomatoes roasted in their wood-fired oven, goat cheese, crostini. ($9). Both primis were just OK. Bland and under-seasoned, so we had to ask for salt. And we never ask for salt. EVER. My friend and I are halfway decent home cooks, so it's disappointing to be served $22 worth of appetizers that lacks that 'restaurant-quality' edge. The roasted tomatoes from the Polpette tasted like they were from a can. We rate it a 4/10. The crostini could have used more olive oil. We had a couple good bites, thank to the wood-fired oven to bring out that woody, char from the outer layer of the tomato. Goat cheese was mild, not gamey, and was a redeeming factor for the otherwise flavorless crostini. I rate the Pomodori a 3/10. My friend thought it was OK once we added salt and the red pepper flakes. I did not favor the mushy texture of the meatballs, it was like they added too much bread to the mix and not enough seasoning. The pomodoro finish was screaming for attention, but it was just OK. There was about a 30-45 minute waiting gap between our appetizers and main course pizza. During this time, we were not asked once if we wanted another round of drinks or offered any waters. MAIN DISH We ordered the Via Tribunali (Specialita' Della Cassa)-provola, ricotta, rapini, sausage, cherry tomatoes, arugula, fresh mozzarella, basil, grana padano ($18). When the pizza came, we were surprised to see that it was a stuffed pizza. But it looked good, so we started cutting it into slices. It was interesting to see that it was so runny, probably from the excess liquid from the ricotta and blanched rapini. Nevertheless, I gave it a bite and it was not good. Just really soggy, watery on all sides. We asked the server if the sogginess was normal and he said it was, due to the liquids from the ricotta and the rapini. He gladly asked if we wanted to switch this out for another pizza and we did (although we hate sending food back or wasting food) for the classic Margherita. The Margherita was good and the wood-fired crust tasted fantastic, but it could've used more fresh mozz and simply put, we've just had better. DESSERT The panna cotta was perfect. read more

Loves it!! Had a party here on Saturday night and I am very pleased with how everything turned out. From my first contact with Colleen (the manager at QA) to walking out the door, it was a great time. We had 25 (ish) people upstairs on the mezzanine and everyone at VT was on top of their game. Our server (Deb) was rad. The busboy was excellent (because we produced a lot of dirty glassware for him to pick up) and of course the food was amazing. I didn't initially know exactly how I wanted to run the party (set menu, ala carte, etc) but I finally decided to do all of the food on one tab and then the three tables (that was how I requested it be set up - 12 - 8 and 6 tops) had individual liquor tabs. Super easy. I love the food here. Crusty, chewy pizza in 5 minutes? Yes please! I tried the meatballs and can't believe that I'd never had them before!! I've kept trying to like this place, because the pizza isn't that bad when compared to the rest of the gross, greasy pizza you can get around my house, but I'm finally done being owned by this restaurant. The food is overpriced, the service is unfriendly, even rude, and the wine is nothing to write home about. They also serve the wine in small drinking glasses, which I guess is some kind of attempt at authentic Italian dining, but I'm generally distrustful of the idea of authenticity and don't like to drink wine out of sippy cups. The pizza is mostly half burned, half soggy, has few toppings, and you have to cut it yourself, which might be okay if the tiny knife they give you to cut it wasn't completely useless. The final straw was really the one piece of basil on an overpriced pizza, but I probably should have learned my lesson after I had the slightly nauseating Nutella calzone. Those who've been to the Capitol Hill location won't be disappointed that the food has absolutely carried over. Same imported wood fired oven, fresh ingredients, and Salumi meats . Unfortunately the surly staff has carried over too. I had never personally experienced the too-cool-for-school staff in Cap Hill, but many reviews, both Yelp and (gasp) non-Yelp, had highlighted that the weakness was by far the service (and the useless dull butter knives). Hopefully most things can be chalked up to opening week disorganization. The same could have been (and was) said of Betty or Opal who had their share of service blunders opening week, but they were at least extraordinarily aware of it and polite about it. Trib's hostess spent the entire night stomping around looking angry and bossing people about. Note to hostesses: when you have hardwood floors, Dutch clogs are probably a poor footwear choice. The waitress, though generally nice, was inattentive. The new space is awesome. Somewhat brighter than the original location, it has a cool upstairs seating area that seems private and removed. One odd thing is the wine racks above the booths that require a special instrument for the servers to daintily pluck the bottles off the shelf, precariously positioned just above diners heads. I foresee disaster some day.... While I'm excited to have Trib in my neighborhood, and will more than likely be a regular, I can't help but wonder if I wouldn't be better off just ordering take-out. European style brick oven pizza spot in Queen Anne. I absolutely love the design of the interior. It felt very much so like a traditional joint where actual Italians would go to get some grub. I mean, in my imagination, this is how it was back in the day. Romantic enough for a meal with a lover (Or two? That's how they roll in Europe, right?) while still being family friendly. You can see the chefs cook your meal from the balcony. I was swept away by the wonderful wait staff. They were very helpful and attentive. Glad to have help with our pizza choices and pronunciations. Previous review said 25 people in the upstairs. May have been possible if they played human Tetris but difficult to accompany. It would be a tight fit considering it was quite cozy up there. Stopped by the Queen Anne location last night with some friends for a pizza and beer. They were unveiling a new menu. The server told me about a new pizza called the Rustica. Apparently the owner was introduced to some incredible tomatoes on a trip to Naples and has been trying for years to import them. They just got them in.. They roast them in the pizza oven then put them on a margherita pizza with their excellent mozzarella. I always get the Toni Lupino,one of the best pizzas this side of Naples but the server was charming and very knowledgable so I tried it. It was fantastic. We also got a salami and of course,the "TL". All outstanding. I've been coming to this location since it's inception and they just keep getting better. Great job Trib. Keep up the good work! read more

Here's the problem. The pizza is great, but it's pizza, for goodness' sake, and at $15 per serving, it's hard to justify what really becomes an $80 dinner for two with salad and wine. What can I say that hasn't been said? Location is smaller than the Cap Hill location, but I like that it allows more natural light. Service was great...our server made sure to inform us that the Caprese was using heirloom tomatoes, SOLD. Ordered that and the prosciutto and melon to start along with a liter of the house wine, which to be honest, was a fairly solid red for the price (good enough we went through 2 liters between the 4 of us). For pizzas we did the Ciro and the Roma (not on the menu, but when we ordered a different pie that had anchovies our server asked if we liked anchovies and recommended the Roma which had capers in addition...score). Both pizzas had outstanding sauce and flavor, but minus one star for some of the crust being burnt beyond eating in some places. Yea, yea, it's that wood-fired thing, I get the fire, but maybe not the burnt. Dessert was the nutella calzone, which was delicious, but doughy. Had an outstanding meal and time with friends, but the Cap Hill one is still my favorite! read more
