I am a teacher, and 4 of my coworkers and I went to go celebrate the end of the year. I LOVE the Dallas Vickery Park, and we had high hopes for the Plano one. The food was great! One of my coworkers is from Argentina, and he misunderstood the menu. He wanted a slice of pizza, but ordered a whole pizza instead. When it was brought out and he said he didn't want it, the waitress handled it relatively well, and he ordered onion rings. He was served fries instead. Twenty minutes later, the manager approached us and wanted to know what had happened with the pizza. Please keep in mind that this was a $9 item on the menu. My coworker explained his situation, and the manager treated my friend like he was an idiot. He DEMANDED that my friend pay for the pizza. All of us were shocked by his behavior, and after a little back and forth, he finally just walked off. While the food was good, I will never return to this Vickery Park. This may be the best kept secret for drinking in the Plano area. I went here for the first time on a Friday night and the usual "bar scene" staples in the DFW metroplex were all missing. The place was not cramped with dudes wearing foil-stamped Affliction shirts and gals doing their best raccoon impersonations by way of copious eyeliner. The prices were quite comfortable for a non-payday Friday. No customers got into a fist fight over a girl, a reserved seat or The Black Keys. Clearly, we had entered "The Twilight Zone." And I look forward to coming back because Vickery Park is quite the reassuring destination for your alcohol intake. My friend and I parked about two lots and two blocks over because we were going on a Friday night to downtown Plano and a compass, hiking boots and possibly a signal flare are all needed to traipse to your destination. Along the way we passed some other bars that totally nailed the "bar scene" I mentioned in the previous paragraph and my heart sank. I had never been to Vickery Park before but I was already fearing the worst before I even stepped into the narrow entrance. We walked in and the place was pretty full - I think we got one of four tables left. I told my friend I'd be back as I ventured deeper into the cavernous layout of the place in search for the bathroom. It's really one l-o-n-g hallway that takes you past a few booths, the kitchen, a really sweet lounge area with shuffleboard, darts, sofas, possibly the rug from "The Big Lebowski" and other nifty elements, and finally another hallway to the left that is lined with all sorts of paintings and graphic displays of colors, sentence fragments and other eye-catching works. I could have spent all night in that last hallway looking at those paintings but there were beers to consume! I hurried up in the two-person bathroom and made my way back to the table. A waitress had been by while I was away and she dropped off a couple of menus and drink menus. For whatever reason, the beers listed in the menu with the food are long outdated and the beers and wines listed on the other drink menus are those currently offered. Keep that in mind or else, like me, you could order a Maudite before realizing you were looking at the wrong menu and Fate has once again smacked you upside the head. For the life of me, I cannot remember our server's name but she was exceptional. Patient, attentive and understanding of two schmucks (my friend and I, for those of you playing along at home) occupying a four-person table in her section on a Friday night - actually, that last part was just a conversation between my friend and I because we think about stuff like that and how it is not fair to the waitstaff to take up one of their money-making properties and order nothing but water as they stand on the line in the kitchen plotting your demise. The point is, she was a joy to have wait on us. We told her we were waiting on a third to join us and she got us started with a couple of Xingu beers - I've never heard of it until I ordered it and, as with most decisions in life, I made it based on the presence of at least one "X" in the title. It was good! But it seems like this place keeps their beers rotated out with frequency and it may not be there by the time you read this, let alone make your way to the bar to order one. That rotating beer selection is a big plus, I'd say - keeps repeat customers and newbies alike satisfied. Our third person showed up and she ordered a wine while we all got a calamari appetizer. This is the only part of my Vickery Park experience where the wheels went off the road. The calamari was nothing special, if we're being honest. Not even three Xingus could get me to care about it but it must have clicked with the rest of my party because they ate it. We probably should have ordered more food, too, but we had to be somewhere so we scooted out shortly afterwards. I've seen pictures of the food here and I saw a couple of desserts get dropped off at the table next to me so I know the food at least -looks- good. I'm sure it tastes good, too, and I'm confident that will bump this four-star review to a five upon another visit. Oddly enough, for as packed as the place was when we were leaving, the somewhat limited staff were able to keep everyone happy. I say "somewhat limited" because, by my count, there were only four waitresses on duty, and this place has a lot of tables. Even more surprising, the place was never loud - I don't know if that's because the front door was open or if because we were there on Civilized Friday and any drunken buffoons were immediately turned away at the door, but it was a very pleasant drinking/dining experience. I'm not sure how Vickery Park does it but I'm glad they do. Is the place offering hundreds of beers on tap with a big-screen TV in view of every seat in the house? No, and that's quite okay. I feel bad giving this place only 3 stars. I feel like Vickery deserves maybe a 3.5? 3.7? I went there with the other Yelpers and grabbed an early lunch. My breakfast sandwich was good, but it wasn't great. I will say that the hashbrowns rocked, and the Sriracha ketchup rocked. I just don't see me ever wanting to go back to Vickery. I want Vickery Park to succeed, but I also want them to have good food. It's the same vibe as the Henderson location, including the people, pretty much. Decided to check it out for a bite after having some drinks at Urban Rio. The service was very good. My $9 glass of wine on the menu was $10 on the check. He asked for a beer recommendation and liked what he got. He ordered Rosemary Chicken and it came out dry. My Tx Ranch Salad consisted of iceberg lettuce, which would have been fine had it included any part of the outer green leaves. It was pretty much all inside white lettuce. It included a few pieces of bacon, very few slices of avocado, some cherry tomatoes and the thinnest ranch dressing I've ever had. Most of it was in the bottom of the bowl like a soup. The worst part was the chicken. It tasted as if it had been grilled, then heated in a microwave, very dry and rubbery. I did let them know about the chicken and they were apologetic. The manager came over and said it would be taken off the tab. The tab didn't reflect that it had been added, but $1.50 was taken off. I might go back to VP, but only for drinks. read more

We went there last Tuesday for 1/2 off all food. When we got there our drink order was taken quickly. They were both not cold but drinkable. We waited a while and finally got an appetizer ordered. We ordered the crab cakes, took about 15 minutes to get them. When they showed up they were really crunchy on the outside and very soft on the inside. Also, we only had one set up silverware on the table. We asked our server to get another set, she said ok and disappeared. Waiting another 5 minutes and she never showed back up. We had to walk to the bar and get some from the bar tender. Server didn't appear again and we decided to leave. We asked another server for our check and within a minute our server came out with our check. I've been here several time and haven't been please with the service or products the last few time. I don't plan on going back. If you do go, I would recommend sitting at the bar. read more

This place has really good food. The brisket sandwich and the pizza are on the top of my list. The beer selection is everything you would expect to find plus there are always some special brews on the board for limited times. The staff is great. Johnny, Miranda and Melissa are all top notch and super friendly servers. If you get Laura as your server do yourself a favor and request somebody else. She takes chain smoke breaks and comes back reeeeeking. This is not only annoying but delayed my plans for the remainder of the night. The last time Laura charged me for drinks I never ordered. Instead of arguing with her I just chalked it up to knowledge and I'll never let her serve me again. Trust me the rest of the staff is great. Brunch on the weekends is AMAZING! Went here with some friends late on a Saturday night. None of us had had dinner yet so we decided to get some food. We waited for over 30 minutes with menus in front of us and no drinks. At that point, I went to the bar and placed the order for our table. Around 10pm the music was turned up to the point that we all had to scream at each other to converse at all. I thought the booth we were sitting in was just in a bad place acoustically, but when I went back to the bar to order our second round, since the wait staff continued to ignore our entire party the entire night, I was forced to scream at the bartender as well. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time and it was fine. The guy that brought it to the table was very put out when we asked some additional condiments. I had pizza and our friends order a sandwich of some sort. Nothing memorable about what we ate. I know I sound very bitter. Every waiter has an off night and restaurant/bars are sometimes understaffed for reasons out of their control. I understand this after having worked in food service. Unfortunately, this did not appear to be the case on this night. The place was not over crowded and there were at least 5 people on staff working that night (this place is not big). Twice I saw the bartender hanging out at the back of the bar messing around on her cell phone and the only staff that came to our table and acknowledged we existed was the guy that brought our food. We ended up here by accident. The restaurant we intended to visit was closed the day of the week we decided to venture to downtown Plano. What a pleasant and delicious surprise to have found this place. When you walk in, it looks like a bar. Now I am not a bar person and I remember thinking...guess it's hamburgers tonight. :-( When Shante, our waitress, handed me the menu, I think my eyes bugged out. I mean caper remoulade, almond cream sauce, grilled asparagus...had I stepped into an alternate universe. The combinations and sauces used in the items on this menu are things you might see in a 4 star restaurant, not a neighborhood bar. I'll admit, I was intrigued. They bring bread to the table, it's like a grilled mini oval-shaped texas toast - PERFECTLY grilled on both sides. Delicious. I wrecked my diet just eating the bread. I said I would eat only one piece, but I couldn't stop. I LOVE me some grilled Texas toast. My hubby ordered the Vickery Park Mussels with a citrus cream sauce as his appetizer - half $8, full $13. He said, just try one. I just rolled my eyes as he stuck the fork in my mouth. OMG!!! I don't even LIKE mussels, but I was in mussel heaven. The sauce/broth that it comes with is like nothing I've ever tasted. It ended up being "our" appetizer. If I wasn't afraid of what people would think, I would have picked that bowl up and slurped it down like soup. In fact, I told the waitress, the cook needs to make a soup out of the broth - it was THAT good. For dinner, hubby ordered a pizza with basil, pepperoni, tomato and blended cheese $14. It comes thin crust and was also extremely good. I ordered the Brisket sandwich with a Kahlua cream sauce with smoked cheese on a honey butter bread $8, it was delicious, but very rich. It had a sweet flavor to it. By this time, I had eaten so much bread and mussels that I could only eat about 1/3 of the sandwich. Shante asked me if I didn't like it, but I said it was good, I was too full. Ratings - Mini Grilled Texas Toast - 10 out of 10; Mussels - 10+, Pizza - 9, Brisket sandwich - 8.5. They have dessert, but we were stuffed. This place is on my Top 10 places to eat. Thank goodness I don't live near downtown Plano or I would have doubled my weight by now. Found this place on yelp. The menu looked awesome. Came and the atmosphere is almost dive bar at first glance but has some great artwork on the walls. The services was on point. Ordered the crab cakes and the salad that came with them was hands down one of the best I've ever had. Whole peppercorns on it was a first for me. Vickery Park is yet another great spot to venture out to in Downtown Plano. The sister bar of the location out in Dallas - it's known for some good craft beers and their pizza, surprisingly enough. Normally not too crowded - it usually features a few attractive waitresses, but mostly men as the clientele. Their beer menu offers up a decent selection from around the US and across the ocean. It's the one place I've found locally that has the Franconia Winter Seasonal - a mind boggling 9% ABV beer that, has such a smooth malty flavor that you have no idea it's high in alcohol content...until you stand up. Yes, I've had a few too many nights where I've pounded a few, gotten up to use the restroom, and realize I need to get some water or some food in me. The pizza and cheese board are both excellent selections on the menu for food - the cheese board offers up a variety of different cheeses and grains to snack on - excellent brie. All in all - I don't come to eat though - normally just to have a beverage. The tables tend to be a little odd - the ones in the middle of the bar are small...even for just two people. The oversized booths make you feel like a midget, and you tend to sink into the booths. Other than the front of the bar where the actual bar area is, the rest of the bar is just a clusterfuck that makes you go "huh?" Obviously it was something else before Vickery, but all the extra space with a random TV, a couch, some various other seating makes you wonder what else they could have done with the extra space. The bathrooms are down two long hallways - I wondered where I actually needed to go the first time I attempted to find it. The decor is a minor distraction from a good alternative to the Filmore. My second visit to Vickery was for the food this time. Vickery just does not come across as a restaurant in any way. It looks like a bar, sounds like a bar and smells like a bar, that turned out to have some pretty good food. Vickery has a great selection at the bar for beer, a great atmosphere and a good crowd. That's all anyone could really want out of a bar...throw in a dart board and more than one holer bathrooms and you got yourself an even better bar. However, Vickery puts itself above others in the area with their dinner menu. We started off with the Cork Screw Chips...homemade potato chips served up with Siracha ketchup, humus and ranch. The potato chips are addicting; thin, salty and warm...they definitely keep the beers coming. Next was the pizza, which I can't say would be their specialty but nonetheless it was good. This location is comparable to the Henderson location with it's atmosphere and staff. Overall, Vickery's laid back crowd and atmosphere made it a great bar but looking a little deeper and you'll find some good food, more than just your pup grub. No patio here. read more

The suburban branch of Vickery Park opened up two weeks ago in old downtown Plano across the street from the Fillmore Pub. Many know of this name from the place next to the original Fireside Pies down on Henderson. The one in Plano is a dark dive with a dozen or so good beers on tap; some good old reliable names and a couple of beer names that were obscure. Plenty of tables and seats right now, especially if you find the place across the street a bit too busy. As for food, we tried just the crab cakes and thought they were quite good. I'm typically not a fan of crab cakes, but these were fried crispy brown and served with a side of tasty spinach. The food around us looked really good so we will have to come back and try a few more items on the menu. Chat with Miles, the guy who manages the place. He clearly loves what he has going and seems to have a good handle on startup stuff. Waitresses were doing a good job while we were there. I'm definitely going back for seconds. read more

My friend and I decided to check out Vickery Park because the other place's kitchen we were considering had already closed. VP's kitchen closed at 11pm so we had just enough time to order Sorry Charlie Tuna, half an order of Vickery Park Mussels and Sweet Onion Rings. Looks like you can get some tacos too if you go later. Everything was great! And the amount of food you got was pretty amazing too! We were thinking of getting a full order of mussels but half was plenty. The onion rings come on a bed of fries and they didn't skimp on the tuna or noodles at all. And it all tasted so good. They have so many other items on their menu, including brunch for the weekend, that I'd like to try. Also, our server was fantastic. She informed us of how much food we were getting and was very attentive throughout our evening. We sat up in the front by the bar, but there's also a whole area in the back for larger parties with shuffleboard, foosball and darts. And a random plus that I cannot get over, their restroom hand soap leaves you with a slight honey scent. This place is great with lots of drink choices and I'm definitely coming back! read more

Vickery Park is my favorite place in downtown Plano. The service is usually great, I've had a couple of slower waitresses, but I did have a party of about 25 there and our waitress was attentive and friendly. We ran her all night, and she had a great attitude the whole time. Overall, the staff seems to encourage patrons to become regulars. Brunch is pretty good, but a little too gourmet for my personal preferences. And I'm not a big meat eater. But for those more adventurous Yelpers, definitely give Vickery's brunch a try. The "side" of mac & cheese is divine (and huge). Gouda mashed potatoes are incredible, as odd as it sounds. The spring mix salad is my favorite, and it's available as a side, or a full meal and you can add grilled chicken. The hubs has had an insatiable craving for eggs benedict for the past 2 weekends, so I set out to find something that would satisfy his hankering. I had heard of good reviews of the location on Henderson, but had no idea there was on in Plano! That fact alone already gave it a positive head start. Located in the heart of downtown Plano, we strolled in around 1pm on Sunday and there was only two other couples inside the restaurant/bar. I didn't realize how dark and small it would be, and I almost felt awkward walking in and that someone would yell at me that they weren't quite open yet. We sat down in a booth with a creaky table, and ordered a carafe of mimosa for $12 bucks. Not bad. Hubby couldn't resist ordering the steak & eggs, and I ordered the eggs benedict (being the wonderful wife that I am) so we could share. It took a little long for our food considering what we ordered and how there was no one there, but when it finally came out, it did indeed look delicious. The ham on my eggs benedict was a little too salty for my taste and it overpowered everything. I had to take a drink of mimosa for every bite. Hubby's t-bone steak was a bit on the puny side. I had to give them 3 stars because I would definitely come back and try the rest of the stuff on the menu because the prices were so reasonable. I was smitten with this place. My mother received a gift certificate at a benefit. I love this location, in a downtown area, conveniently located. The atmosphere was great with enjoyable music, unique art on the walls and smooth lighting. The beer menu was impressive, as well was the full bar and wine selection. We were very pleased with the food too. Started off with the trio dip & chips, great small pre meal snack. I had the chicken sandwich which seemed like it was seasoned the same way as the half chicken meal, with rosemary and basil on top of a fresh jalapeño cheddar beard (the icing on the cake). We also had the burger and brisket sandwich, which was also very delicious. At a price of $8 average these were very affordable and totally worth your money. Came for a quick lunch with a coworker since I work in the area. I love the place and today I decided to try the smoked club sandwich on multi-grain instead of the focaccia bread. O.M.G. this may be the best sandwich I have ever had. The smoked turkey and ham are so good and they use just a dab of yummy basil mayo. You know how some club sandwiches are dry and hurt your mouth to chew? Umm no, this is not one of those. The bread was soft and had the grains on top to make me feel good about my "healthy" choice :) I had the french fries and the french fries here are so good. I always tell myself oh, I'll substitute a salad today, but nope, I always get the fries because they are perfect. I see some of the reviews talking about rude service, but I have never encountered that in my 3 visits. I've tried the bbq half chicken which was moist and very tasty. Went with my wife and a friend on a Monday night for the 1/2 price pizza and it was GREAT! Thin crust with prosciutto, mushrooms and basil. It ended up only costing about $6! It's one hell of a deal. Also had the brisket sandwich. It was good but not great. The Kalua sauce was too sweet for my taste. We had a coupon for a free sandwich and they honored it. My favorite thing on the menu is the onion rings! They are very thick cut and are a meal by themselves. The plate of rings also comes with some very good fries. San Francisco Rose, on Greenville Ave in Dallas, used to make rings like these, but stopped years ago with a management change (that pissed me off and I won't go back there!). Now I can get my rings again! Beer selection is very good and they serve each type of beer in the proper glass it should be in. Even the wine selection was small but impressive for a beer joint like this. One visit on a Monday we did have some entertainment. Some dickhead in the back part of the bar got blitzed and started a fight. He was a big dude too! The bartender (who was about a foot shorter) had to throw him out. The drunk guy had a look like he wasn't going to go without a fight. One of the waitresses called the cops and the guy left before they arrived. Goods: They had High Chairs, the food was awesome, the beer selection was better than average and the prices are fair. Bads: Service is almost extinct. 1 way overworked bartender and 8 tables made for a LONG wait to order, get food and anything else. She kept forgetting things like, "May I get some water?, Do you have salt? Napkins?" I ended up getting everything on my own. No sorries or explanation, thought it was a-okay to be extremely slow at lunch. Recommended this place to a friend Saturday night and his words were "Good food, but they need to figure out the server issue. Very slow to a point of annoyance". Met up with some family I havent seen in some time. My cousin is a local and recommended here and glad he did. The atmosphere is very comfortable, easily a place I could see myself meeting friends and spending multiple evenings at. It is very remiss of your traditional gastropub, however honestly with better prices. A huge variety of local IPA's, drafts and your more commonplace brews topped with an exceptional menu. I ordered the crab cake appetizer which is served with a caper salad. The crab cakes were tasty, if anything a tad too much dill and the salad was spot on. For entree I ordered the brisket sandwich which was absolutely delicious. This came with a side of fries and Kaluha creme dipping sauce, odd, but tasty. Food: I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Better than expected. Pork had a good texture, flavor, and mouth-feel. Fries were seasoned great, the seasoning seemed to change when eaten with the ketchup, it was interesting, a good interesting. Only improvement to the dish I would make would be to toast the bun, strain the pork a little, offer the jus on the side so patrons have a choice of how soggy they want their sandwich to be. My girl ordered steamed vegetables and fresh fruit because of gluten allergy. They were very accommodating and provided a properly cooked balance of veggies, including portobello and asparagus. Loved this place. The food was great. We had an appetizer of dips/corkscrew chips. Our table sat at the front to watch all the Poke-man people on their hunt for the great Yellow King.....ordered the brisket sandwich, chicken sandwich, tomato soup and burger. You can't ask for much more in a local watering hole. They have a great staff, a great drink selection and some of the best food in downtown Plano. It's the staff and the food that makes Vickery Park so special. Everything on the menu is awesome and I have had all but two or 3 items. Definitely my favorite place to go and my wife has finally stopped asking where do I want to go grab a bite to eat. She knows there is no substitute for Vickery Park. read more

Checking out different places in Dallas. Great night out bar/food spot. We got a variety of food (crab cakes with spring salad; mussels; vegetable platter). Most of it was fantasticly delicious. The parts that weren't top notch choices were still good. Their salad and the vegetable platter were awesome, but the asparagus was a bit hard and the crab cakes, although good, weren't a favorite. Finally had a chance to dine in a few times and I must say I really like their food! The cork screw chips are great to start off with. For dipping sauces, it comes with ranch, hummus, and this artichoke parmesan dip I couldn't get enough of. Their mussels are fabulous! The citrus cream sauce had pieces of mushroom, ginger, lemongrass, and who knows what else. All I know is it made my taste buds happy! On my first two visits, I ordered the half order and it was generous in portion size. I can only imagine how big the full order is. You get several pieces of toasted garlic bread which is great for dipping into the cream sauce. During one of the visits, I ordered the brisket sandwich. After reading the description, I knew it wouldn't be your typical brisket sandwich. It had this Kahlua cream sauce that made it very sweet. In addition, it was served on a butter honey bread. I really liked it, but my husband couldn't eat too much of it. It was too sweet for him. He ordered the Winner Winner Chicken Dinner and he was surprised how good it was. I took a few bites, and it was a winner. The chicken was tender and moist, and the gouda smashed potatoes were good. For my side, I got the house salad with smoked gouda, toasted walnuts, and cranberries tossed in balsamic vinaigrette. Very tasty salad. Now my last visit was a different story. Although our waitress was very friendly, service was slow. My husband's water had to get refilled by another waitress because the original waitress was occupied with something at the register. She did end up apologizing to us, but action speaks louder than words. And she continued to be inattentive the rest of our dinner. Ok on to the food. As much as I wanted to order the mussels, I opted to try something new for a starter - the fried calamari. It was a little chewy, and the pieces were larger than I prefer. For our entree, we decided on the pizza. It was totally different than the pizza on the catering menu (which is more of a thin crust/flat bread). This was more of a New York style pizza. We both thought it was ok. It should have stayed in the oven a little longer. I'll pass on this next time (If I want pizza, I'll go to Urban Crust across the street). In my other visits, service was quick and friendly. This place is a great casual neighborhood bar with pretty good food. read more

I visited Vickery Park for brunch one Sunday. I ordered the waffle as well as a bacon egg and cheese biscuit. Both were very good. My wife had the french toast. It was not your typical french toast, it was almost like a coffee cake. It was good, but not great. Vickery Park is a cool little place and I will certainly be back whether its for brunch or to grab a beer. read more
