Sugar cane drinks here are $6 which I thought was fair. The drink is decently large. I like the flakey and buttery puff pastry of the pate chaud. The vegetarian pate chaud tastes of mushroom and some crunchy vegetables. The bad: You must pay cash if your order is under $20. Milk teas and coffee drinks are on the expensive side at $6. The durian pastry didn't taste like durian. It was rather bland. The taro pastry was a bit on the dry side. I asked for 3 of each flavor but only got 4 of the 5 flavors. They left out the coconut ones. There is no indoor nor outside dining areas. This is strictly a to-go place. One worker here didn't have his mask on and the other one had her mask under her nose. The nuoc mia (sugar cane drink) sign outside makes some bold claims about curative properties ("cures acne" and "cures febrile disorders") of the drink. FDA regulations prohibit the advertising of food items as curative of diseases. The parking lot can get busy and tight. Vien Dong Sugar Cane is on my go to list for its savory tasting pate chaud (bánh pate so) and eggrolls (chả giò) what is so amazing is the price at $1.14 per piece for both whereas you'll be paying a lot more than that save yourself the time by coming out here instead you won't be disappointed. I loved pate chaud comes in taro, coconut, veggies and durian pork is my favorite and I can taste the savory buttery flake crispy and tender. Their main specialty: Sugar cane drinks only had once before I opt for Vietnamese iced coffee at $4 can't get any cheaper than that a real penny saver for those on a tight budget. The pastries were 90 cents each and they even had a printout taped on their plexiglass to help us figure out the exact change depending on the amount of pastries we wanted to buy! Please note that the establishment prefers CASH. If you do want to use your credit card, you will need to make a minimum purchase of $20 (which really isn't hard once you get addicted to the puff pastry). Mr. NSS is a huge music and sports geek. He's also a human calculator. Throw any number at him, ask him to multiply it, divide it, you name it, and you'll get an answer faster than punching in the numbers yourself into a calculator. His food knowledge? We arrived early on a weekday morning and were able to pick up 3 dozen bánh patê sô with no problem, a bánh mi pork sandwich for my hubs breakfast and a iced coffee for me. I was urged not to talk about the pate chaud from Vien Dong. However, seeing that it's not even really a secret on Yelp, I'll go ahead and write my review. This shop nominally specializes in sugar cane juice. They also have a few other foods and drinks. However, I have not tried any of those items. The only reason that I went today is their awesome and really cheap pate chaud. You can have not just one, but two of these goodies for a dollar. The pate chaud are square, in contrast to the circular kinds that most other places make. Each side is about two inches. The puff pastry is ridiculously good and is easy to bite through, and it gets even better if you pop it in the oven when you get home. Just make sure to order enough so that you don't run out by the time you get there. The ground pork is easier to chew than other places, although I actually feel more of the diced onion and water chestnut in my mouth when I'm munching on one of these goodies. There's definitely less pork here than in most other pate chaud that I've had. My biggest issue, however, is that the pate chaud really lacks in pepper and garlic. I can see the pepper, but I can't taste it. Still, cheap sometimes just wins. This is definitely one of those times. You will forget about the deficiencies by the time you've eaten several of these pastries in a row. Trust me. read more

I really *really* wish I had gotten the sugar cane drink like most people who reviewed this place did. I was reading some of the tips and someone got the passion fruit drink and I love passion fruit, but it ended up being way too sweet. I was looking for something more natural and less sugary. 1 star for the passion fruit drink. It was sweeter than fruit punch. I also ordered the beef puff pastry. I saw a picture of it on yelp and it looked so delicious. I asked the lady what was in it, but she didn't know how to speak English. Thankfully someone else behind the register was able to answer my question. The lady then place it in a bag, gave it to me, and gave me a signal to try it. I gave it a bite. Okay, this would have gotten a 4 stars, but after my trip back home to Vietnam and my recent purchase here, I knocked down a couple of stars. But today, I just got the regular. The lady even gave me a $0.50 discount! In my head I was like "SWEET!" But boy was I wrong. The $3 drink tasted really really bad. It was watered down and mixed with sugar. Not what you would expect from a sugarcane juice. NO WAY JOSE! So disappointed in this. Also, the lady was irritated when I only ordered one drink. My first yelp review =) I saw that this place didn't have that many reviews and I just had to write my thoughts. This is my favorite go to place after a long day of school. I started going there for the first time about a month ago and I'm a regular now. I love it! It's a small place so it's very easy to miss, but the pastries and the drinks are very good and cheap. Not only that, they have deals every Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesdays, large drinks are the price of smalls. Wednesdays, buy two drinks, get one free, including fruit yogurts. Sugar cane with durian drink: I loved it. It's my favorite drink that I've tried so far. There are actual durian bits in the drink. It's different and thirst quenching. The durian does overpower the sugar cane so if you're looking for the sugar cane taste, this is not the drink to get. Sugar Cane: It's good and refreshing. I don't feel that it stands out on its own like the durian one. Sugar cane with strawberries: It has both the sugar cane flavor and a hint of strawberries. The drinks comes with strawberry bits. It's not too sweet. Rau Ma with Mung Bean: I thought this drink was pretty good. It's refreshing and not too sweet. There's a lot of mung bean added to the drink too. Durian Puff Pastry: Each pastry is just 50 cents! It's a mixture of durian, mung bean, and coconut inside a puff pastry. It's just the right amount of sweet and it's perfectly moist too. The pastry is buttery and flaky. So delicious, especially hot and fresh from the oven. These disappear really fast so if you're lucky they might have some in their display case. If not, make sure to order them before you stop by. Taro Puff Pastry: This pastry doesn't have much of a taro taste, which I thought was a little disappointing. Just a hint. It's not too sweet either. It's worth it to try, but it isn't my favorite. Pate So - This is a meat puff pastry. It has ground pork inside. I personally didn't like this one as much as the sweet pastries. I felt that there were other places that made better ones. But this pastry is also 50 cents so it's definitely worth trying. It tastes so much better when it's fresh from the oven. Fruit Yogurt: The fruit yogurt is in a cup about the size of a venti at Starbucks. It's filled half way with Vietnamese style yogurt, which is a little liquidy and tart. On top, there's a layer of popping boba, combination fruit jelly, and fresh strawberries and mangoes. The popping boba makes the yogurt really sweet. So if you want less sweet, just ask them not to add the popping boba. Each cup is about $4. Passion Fruit Juice - I heard that passion fruit has health benefits and I wanted to give it a try. The juice is really fresh with actual seeds floating at the top. Both the juice and the seeds are supposed to be beneficial to our health. I have never had the seeds before so it was interesting to have an extra crunch in my drink. However, it is extremely sweet. I let the ice melt in my drink and added more ice and I still thought it was too sweet. I did like the tropical taste of the drink. I definitely recommend coming here and giving all the drinks and pastries and the yogurt a try. They're cheap and delicious. You might want to consider ordering the yogurt or pastries ahead of time because they're really popular and are almost sold out as soon as they're out of the oven. read more

On a hot hot hot day, we decided to grab some nuoc for the ride home. We came across this one since it was close to where we were. Not to be confused with Vien Dong on Senter also. That place is for banh mi. I've tried Nuoc Mia Vien Dong in OC before and it was fantastic, but not sure why this location is soooooo off. And we're both Vietnamese with many years of experience drinking nuoc mia...but this one time was the worst ever!! It could be because they pre made the drink, so it tasted water down. But even then, there was no hint of nuoc mia flavor to it. I'm not sure if they even use sugarcane at all?!?! If you add sugar to a cup of water, then that's exactly what it tasted like to us. We also have tried those drinks we never know the name for that are in the fridge. One has coconut and jelly, and one has jelly and coconut LOL. One is darker and other is just mostly clear/white jelly. Both are good and I wish I new the name for it. They also have this passion fruit drink. As Rosie W. mentioned, it is very sweet. So pending on what you are looking for, you may not want to get this if you don't like SWEET drinks. I have 2 reasons why this place received 1 star (if I had a choice, it would be NO star). 1) I paid for the drinks using my CC and this elderly woman said since I'm paying with my CC and it's under $20, she'd have to charge me an extra $1. That would make it $11 instead of $10 for 2 small sugarcane drinks. I thought that was kind of weird and expressed to her that that does not sound right because other businesses only charge extra if it's under $10. I asked her why she would charge me an extra $1, she ignored me. So I asked again and she said it's just how it is and that she doesn't know why exactly. Go figured, right? I decided to pay the extra fee anyway because my aunt wanted sugarcane drink. Otherwise, I wouldn't have paid for it. 2) The drink was not good at all!! I ordered sugarcane with passionfruit, and it tasted nothing like it! I couldn't taste the sugarcane because the "passionfruit" overpowers it. However, the passionfruit didn't even taste like passionfruit either! It seriously tasted like syrup--sugarcane drenched in syrup. So, my peeps, for these reasons, I WHOLEHEARTEDLY DO NOT recommend this place. They're a ripoff!!! Not bad of a place for smoothies. The shop has this cool banner in front which caught my attention one day and I wanted to try out their smoothies. I got myself the strawberry smoothie which you can add pearls to it but I didn't. The shop uses fresh fruits or sometimes frozen and adds things like ice cream and other mixins to the smoothie. They also offer small pastries like pate chaud and snacks as well. I would come back to try out some of their other smoothies and juices. This place would be great for a summer drink to quench my thirst. read more

COVID-19 Hours:close at 4pm. PHONE orders HIGHLY advised. Been coming here for 10+ years now. Its THE BEST fluffy, savory and crispy pate chaud (I LOVE the pork buns! The veg option is delish! Eggrolls are $0.75/ea super delish hot when avail). Dont bother going anywhere else. Their sugar cane juice is sweet but it's meant to be watered down by ice when it melts.
