This is more of a corner store / deli than it is a grocery store. If you're looking to go grocery shopping, this wouldn't be the spot to do it at. If you're looking to grab some delicious and authentic Laos food to-go (or to eat there) or you need to grab some oyster or fish sauce, then this is the store to go to. It's one of the only Lao markets I know anywhere close to the area so I don't have much to compare it too. It's small and right smack dab on MLK, also next to a Speed-E-mart so parking is a hassle. Oh as well as the whole right turn only thing, that kinda sucks considering you're on MLK and it gets pretty congested. Anyway, I usually come here when I don't feel like cooking and craving some Lao food. Normally, I get the flat beef jerky (don't know how to spell it), some raw beef lap, filled tapico balls or that one pork meat thing. Haha I know what they are but I can't think of the names. I come here for the very well seasoned grilled chicken, sausage, and short ribs. All come with a side of traditional sticky rice that is a lot denser and "al dente" than usual white rice. No fancy seating or displays in here just good ol traditional Laos grub! Also their cassava cake sold by the cashier area is awesome. read more

Got the short ribs, papaya salad and spring rolls. It was a Sunday afternoon and maybe these had been sitting under a heat lamp for days and boy did they show and taste it. Wizened little chunks of completely dried out pork that could not be removed from the bone with teeth or a knife. Inedible and "only" $13!! What a waste. Papaya salad was just ok but too soggy for my taste. Spring rolls came with a tiny cup of ground peanuts instead of peanut sauce. I did like the minty flavor though! All in all huge disappointment and complete waste of $30. I'll continue across the parking lot or street to the much, much better Tony's Bakery or Rainier bbq next time. read more

This place is exactly what I was hoping it would be. You have to get the grilled chicken. It was amazing. They serve the sticky rice in little individual steamer baskets. They didn't have any Lao sausages, ZERO. Which is the main reason I visited. Considering that this is one of the few laos market in seattle, this is my ideal spot to for laos food. Their papaya salad is hands down one of the best i've had since moving to seattle. There's an even an option where you can add vermicelli noodles which soaks up favor & helps out with how spicy it is! They offer alot of pre - made food at the front cash register as well as the fridge, but my favorite one would be the beef larb & the chilli dipping sauce. They also have an eggplant dipping sauce, but I ended up throwing away everything ;( The last time I made a visit, we were gonna try their noodle dish (kapoon) but the young girl in the back that was talking on phone with her friend was so rude so I just left. The menu posted on the wall wasn't completely in english so I was questioning the difference between the pictures & since there was a language barrier between me & the owner... things got kinda complicated. But she just rudely questioned whether or not i want it & went back to her phone conversation. I ended up getting my usual papaya salad & she didn't even say thanks or hand me my food. Good food from good people. Worth the trip. If you like spicy coconut in a light curry noodle soup (you can choose various meat), try the "Kapoon". Also try the sticky rice and Lao sausage. This place is the definition of a hole in the wall restaurant. It's a small grocery store with 3-4 tables and plastic chairs in the front. Menu is on the wall with pictures. This is as authentic as it gets for Laotian food. Prices are cheap and portion size is right. I tried the Thai noodle soup, the thick broth had intense flavors with a myriad of goodies including intestines, pork blood, beef heart. Not for the faint of heart....if you prefer something more normal, try the beef noodle soup instead. The spring rolls are huge and very tasty. I also tried the beef jerky, I prefer my beef jerky a little softer, so next time I might order the grilled beef instead. They have Laotian sausages as well in the refrigerator section. They also have some pre packaged salads and cold items in the fridge, as well as some desserts near the cash register. I was craving for a good papaya salad, I can't find one that will entice me to try in Vancouver. Since i am going to Seattle, i search for a good laotian restaurant. I found this Veintiane Grocery. I like the hole in the wall type of places, as long as the place is clean and prepping of food. The papaya salad with crab is a bomb! I got the sour pork, OMG! It pairs perfectly with the papaya salad. But, i still got the crispy rice salad. Which is awesome. It was a nice experience, the owner Kevin was helpful in which to order.
