My friend and I had a great breakfast here to start our day trip to San Diego. I left happy and full. We arrived early to a fairly long line to order. The wait wasn't too long to place our orders. It gave us time to check out menus provided near the register and the case of muffins and other goodies. After ordering we grabbed a table in the sunshine and our food arrived very soon after. The Cranberry Orange Muffin was delicious. So good that I couldn't help myself from eating my half of it. Yes, half. All of their muffins are giant so I'd suggest sharing unless this is your whole breakfast. The muffin had a nice texture with a slight crunch on the top. The flavor was great. The Breakfast Croissant was a must to try more of the delicious pastries. I loved the flaky, buttery croissant. The eggs, ham, and cheese were good. I could definitely enjoy the croissant alone or with some jam though. The country potatoes on the side were crispy and delicious with sautéed peppers and onions. Their sandwiches are good and they're relatively quick making things. But I ordered some chocolate mousse cake today with lunch, and there was mold in the middle!!! The cake layer was also very stale around the edges. That's why I wasn't eating the bottom layer. It must have been baked and left over from yesterday, but there was no "day old" sign or discount. I am so disappointed in Villa Nueva Bakery. I have been going there for years (I am a local and live on the island). This past weekend, my husband, two year old, newborn and I went out to breakfast, and among other things (totaling $60+ as I got muffins to go) I ordered a breakfast croissant sandwich. I told the cashier I'd like eggs, cheese, avocado and tomato. She repeated back to me. When it came out, there was ham on it - and I'm vegetarian. When I asked for a new sandwich, I was told ham comes automatically and since I didn't specify that I didn't want it (even though I specified what I DID want), they would not remake it. They took the entire plate back and did not give me a new sandwich or my money back, so I left hungry. I cannot believe this terrible customer service. To top it all off, this was our first time out to breakfast with our newborn. A woman at the table next to me came over after she heard my exchange with the waitress and noted how horrible it was that they did not rectify their mistake, and to give a new mom such a hard time to boot (I was wearing the baby the whole time). Needless to say, I will not be going back nor ever recommend this restaurant ever again. Very disappointing, as I like to frequent local establishments rather than chains and the food there is good - but there are plenty of other restaurants with excellent customer service that will get my money in the future. read more

I wanted to give this place a try despite all of the warning reviews. Well we went here for brunch. I simply ordered the Eggs Any Way that comes with 2 eggs, potatoes, and a croissant. I added a side order of bacon. Ok, my eggs were fine, they're eggs. My potatoes I requested to be extra crispy, they were not. They taste like store bought, pre made pre cooked potatoes, just plain and subpar. Thirdly, I didn't get my croissant. And when I requested it from our waitress, she still didn't bring it until my friend had to go up to the counter to remind her. Great customer service, great sandwiches, my favorites are the chicken salad is top notch, coronado club and the blta....drinks are amazing and the coffee is tasty. I love their muffins. Most of the people who work here are family or they have been working here for many years so the consistency is at a high level. Side note: I would avoid going from 1140-1215 on when days school is in because most coronado high school kids are at every restaurant on the strip, living off thier parents funds. read more
