I've been to Vinason several times now, both through MealPal and in the regular line. SLU doesn't have a lot of Vietnamese options, so while I might not rate it as highly if it were in the ID, it gets a star just for being a place for vermicelli and pho in the neighborhood. This is basically a takeout-only place. I think it does have a couple of tables, but you're never going to get any of them during the lunch rush. Nevertheless, the lines are long, usually out the door during lunch. The MealPal pickup window is around back, and while it's usually pretty fast, I have seen a fairly long line (10+ people) waiting to pick up. Overall, though, the pickup line moves quickly. The vermicelli bowl is pretty good and a fairly large portion for $10. You get all the usual toppings and sauce, and it feels like a fresh, healthy lunch option. I had the chicken pho through MealPal, which seems roughly equivalent to the 16 oz pho size. The broth was screaming hot and stayed hot all the way back to my office, and everything was nicely packaged and wrapped up with a compostable bag, which was a nice bonus! I've also had the lemongrass pork fried rice bowl, which is tasty and not too greasy (as fried rice can often be). The MealPal portions are smaller than the regular entrees, but still pretty filling and substantial. The banh mi ranges from $6-12, but since I'm spoiled by super-cheap banh mi from the Vietnamese delis in the ID, I can't quite bring myself to pay Vinason's prices. I'd like to try their macarons and iced coffees, but you can't do add-ons or customize with MealPal. The lines can be a nightmare, so I suggest coming during off-peak hours or using a pickup service to avoid the wait. Overall, it's a tasty and fairly healthy choice for lunch in SLU where you can actually get full for $10! read more

It had a solid mouthfeel without being overwhelmingly rich or spiced. This was probably one of the best pho soup broths I've ever had. The banh mi and spring rolls were also really good. The peanut dipping sauce for the spring rolls was so good! I'm used to another orangey sauce in LA ( NOT SURE THE NAME ) i added some chili oil sauce into the peanut sauce and dipped the spring rolls in that- the place is tiny and not much seating, I would imagine most people around the area get it to-go since its a lot of big buildings/ businesses around. I swung by here after work to grab a pre dinner snack. This place is more for take out or grab and go. There's not much seating and there's no public bathroom. Vinason has a pretty cool concept of farm to table but Vietnamese style. The menu isn't too extensive and I wish they had more authentic dishes rather than the usual pho, spring rolls and banh mi but I suppose it's to cater to the demographics nearby. What really drew me here was Macadon's macarons. I first discovered it at Fremont Market and was pleased to find that Vinason carries her goodies. Durian ice cream macaron - For all the durian lovers out there, this is the bomb dot com. I recommend waiting 5 - 10 minutes before eating it because it'll be the perfect texture. It won't be melted but it won't be ice cold and hard. It's still chill and it'll be soft enough to bite into to savor that creamy delicious ice cream and the soft macaron shell. Taro macaron - The taro flavor was lightly hinted but still good nonetheless. Beef spring rolls - I've never had Vietnamese spring rolls with beef, I usually go for shrimp. I like that they have other protein options such as chicken and pork. The spring roll itself was kind of lacking in flavor. But again this might be because of the location and the need to dilute one's taste palette's in order to cater to the local crowd. The dish would be better if there was more ingredients in the roll and if the peanut sauce had actual chopped peanuts in it. I've had a couple of lunches from Vinason Pho from Mealpal and always thought it was really good, so I stopped in again to grab a quick dinner. I ordered the pork vermicelli ($10) and a Thai iced tea ($4).The vermicelli was so good! The pork was well seasoned and tasted authentic and the vermicelli had lots of veggies in it. The iced tea was also good, but honestly seemed too sweet. The food came out really quickly and service was fine. I would definitely come back to try their pho! read more

Yeah, this place is awesome! Finally was able to sneak in today after passing by a few times and am looking forward to going back. Got the pork banh mi to just get a pulse on the place - it was excellent from the bread to the daikon. The place itself is super cute inside with a few places to sit and a clear emphasis on local sustainable ingredients. Service was fast and friendly; there was no line and I got my food within 5 min. They have a couple stools but people are literally crawling over each other trying to move in the small space. Hard to know what to make of the glowing reviews here (more on that in a minute...), but my experience here wasn't great. I did like the the minimalist, efficient operation and the option-laden menu (for one thing, shrimp banh mi is hard to find), but my chicken banh mi was fatty (I was told the chicken was breast meat, but it certainly wasn't), and the pho broth I got on the side was quite greasy (both in taste and in texture). As for the 4.5-star average review (on 150 reviews as of this writing), it needs to be pointed out that Vinason offers free food for Yelp reviews (and openly advertises doing so), so it's natural to wonder how much bias exists in the aggregate (case in point - note Adam G's review below). read more

I live right near Vinason and because it was nearby and interesting I stopped by the first time. As of today I've probably had 4-5 meals and each one of them has been absolutely incredible. I judge bánh mi pretty harshly because I've had some incredible 2 for 5 in Orlando that have been unbelievably delicious. I have to say that Vinason easily competes with the best bánh mi I have ever had. I usually order the pork, which is sustainable, deliciously moist, generously portioned, and with a perfect pickled vegetable salad plus awesome bread. The bread isn't the perfectly hollow French rolls I have had elsewhere but they are still perfect for their version of this sandwich. I have also had the spicy chicken fried rice which is fresh and really tasty without being too oily. The spicy chicken vermicelli is also a very generous portion and lives up to its name in heat and flavor. I really like how all the dishes have fresh, pickled, and herbaceous components--the melange of flavors and textures is awesome. This weekend, I finally had the Pho which was unsurprisingly, also great. My usual complaint with Pho is that it can be very greasy, but not here at Vinason. The pho was full flavored, robust, and not greasy at all. Whoever made it took great care to keep skimming and removing the oil. I really enjoy this restaurant--the food is great and the staff are extremely kind and so hardworking. Anytime I walk by they are either busy making orders or constantly cleaning and wiping down things. I wish them all the continued success in the world, they've earned it and deserve even more!! Can't wait until my next bánh mi!! Value here is excellent, might seem pricier for bành mi but truth is you will spend more for worse food at any food truck or restaurant in the area. Food - I appreciate how much care has been put into sourcing organic, non-GMO ingredients. My brisket pho was decent, but I do prefer a broth with a little more 'depth.' Ambiance - Clean. Modern/Industrial decor. Friendly staff. Extremely limited seating, so plan on sitting outside (weather permitting) if you're there with a friend. Value - Inevitably, you end up playing $2+ more than you might at other restaurants for similar dishes. My guess is that such is due to a combination of the location (rent) and better (healthier) ingredients. For many, the extra cost is well worth it. I'll be back. read more

Yes! Finally, that perfectly made pork banh mi I've been searching for, and it's been sitting in South Lake Union this whole time. I've only tried the banh mi and fresh rolls here, so I can't speak for the pho, vermicelli, or anything else. But both the banh mi and fresh rolls were spot on. Location: Right smack dab in the middle of Amazonia, it's a bit hard to find parking, but if you park at Whole Foods it's right across a small street. Inside: The inside isn't exactly dine-in friendly. It's pretty cramped, and definitely more of a place you would want to order out from. Shrimp Spring Roll: Whoever rolled my spring roll should give lessons. It was so beautifully, tightly rolled that I was excited just looking at it. Inside is brimming with noodles and fresh, crisp lettuce that for me was the perfect texture; not too wet or dry. The shrimp itself was pretty small, but I could taste the fresh shrimp through it all. Pork Banh Mi: The reason why I give this place 5 stars. The right size and texture baguette; not big and bready, not too crispy for those with weaker gums, but just right. Pork sauteed in this amazingly, addictively sweet sauce that works so well in banh mi, and enough of it so every bite is meaty and satisfying. Pickled vegetables that are delicious and pickled just right to compliment and not overpower anything else. I had to take out half of my jalapenos, but that's just cause I'm embarrassingly weak to spicy things. But a little bit of the heat really completes the flavor. Price: Price and interior are probably the only places where this place falls short. It was all surprisingly expensive. I'm not used to paying $9 for a banh mi. I loved the bah-mi sandwich from the previous place and would give a 5 start to that any day and night. The new place does more justice to the pocket by giving a regular and large option on the bah-mi which is good if you are less hungry, but it was a little on the drier side. I tried their other dishes as well since i work right opposite and go there quite often. They serve you in two minutes and the food is good and not that expensive. I think this place has good oily pho broth - as it should be. Why two stars? I took a walk on a cold rainy day for about 30 minutes to get here. The place has a good rating on Yelp so I was eager to get there, get warm and eat soup + other dishes. I arrived to discover that it's really more of a takeout counter. Seating was really minimal like a small ramen place in Tokyo. Well that's not terrible. Then for a 10$ bowl of pho dining in, it's served in a plastic takeout bowl. Once you wait for someone to leave so you can sit down and eat your takeout food, the counters looked like they hadn't been cleaned all day. The sign on the outside with the King county health code rating puts this place one mark above "poor" with an "okay" rating (at the time of my visit a few days after Christmas 2017 - their rating could go up or down in future inspections) My pho came out right away, but my other dish, the spring rolls cane out after I was 75% done with the soup. So the place is a takeout counter with a fend for yourself dining room - and they ask for a tip on the receipt! Hahaha no. Lastly when I was leaving - unlike most ramen or soup places where you just drop your tray on a return counter, they actually have a gross little workstation set up for you to drop trash in a bin, recycling stuff in another bin and then actually stack your takeout bowl in a stack as if it's dishes heading back to the dishwasher instead of dropping it in the recycle bin hole - and the gross part they have this disgusting soup tub where they want you to dump your uneaten soup broth. Ummmm I don't even want to imagine where those used takeout bowls and gallons of unused soup go :/ I can't see how this place is rated so high on yelp - I guess takeout customers or uber eats. My review here is based in spending $30+ on a dine in experience. Best part of it was the oily soup broth where so much other pho in Seattle is dry with dry white meat chicken and not great. I also don't want to dine in and eat out of a small plastic takeout bowl. To step it up they should get real dishes for dine in and also let customers drop their dishes at a return counter on the way out - and clean their counters - especially since they are asking for tips/gratuity. The soup collection bin and the almost poor health rating will keep me from returning. read more

i am against venison and trophy hunting (i only aprove of killing a deer for personel reasons or eating at vinason for flavorful ones). when ordered on the run the pho ingredients are packed more sensibly than an amazon warehouse. and unlike one of those its economic footprint did not destroy seattle during dinner. it has become apparent that master chemists measured the meal dimensions so finely that if even one more drop of broth was sent earth would burn.
