Best second date ever. I walked by this place all summer, and when my now boyfriend suggested that we come here on our second date, I couldn't have been more excited. I knew nothing about the cuisine, but the restaurant just looked so charming! The restaurant is beautiful. The bar is beautifully lit - I want one like it in my future house. The dining area is small, but not overcrowded at all. We had a lovely table right by the window, so I could see some of the happenings on Clark. I started off with a glass of cab, while my boyfriend had a beer. We decided to split one of the special appetizers that night, fried oysters. I'm not a huge oysters fan, but I'd never had them fried before. These came with sausage in a delicious cream sauce. They were quite flavorful and something I would definitely try again. For the main course, I had the lamb burger and my boyfriend had the Indonesian BBQ pork ribs. My burger came with fries and a garlic aioli sauce - I couldn't stop eating them. I love lamb, probably in a way that's unhealthy, but my burger was phenomenal. I had to eat it with a fork and knife, since it was too thick to eat with my hands. The burger was prepared medium rare, which was perfect. My boyfriend's ribs were AMAZING. When we go back to this restaurant, that's what I'm going to order. They were incredibly tender and packed with flavor. I could eat that meal all the time and never tire of it. Dessert was chocolate cake with peanut butter mousse, chocolate ganache and sea salt on top. This dessert is THE MOST AMAZING THING IN THE WORLD. I love chocolate and peanut butter in a way that's sick and wrong, but I couldn't get enough of this dessert. It's responsible for my relationship being such a success :) Service is fantastic. Our server was super friendly and had great suggestions for us. All of the other diners in the restaurant looked like they were having a good time, which is something I always notice. I went to Vincent with a group of 12 guys, and we were pleased with our experience here. We arrived a tad early for our reservations, and the friendly wait staff seated us immediately. The tealights around the restaurant created a very date-friendly ambiance, but we weren't deterred by this. I ordered a Dutch 75 for my drink and it was both strong and delicious! We started out sharing the mussels and frites. The Sambal mussels were spicy and delicious; the Amsterdam mussels were very garlicky and masked the taste of the mussels and I believe is a good entry dish for those new to this type of seafood. For my main dish, I ordered the haddock. It was a decent piece of fish but was a bit salty and a too breaded for my liking. I ended up finishing my meal and the portions were perfect. I tasted a friend's pan roasted chicken and that dish was MUCH better. Pros: Good service, great mussels Cons: bit too much salt, but I tend to be sensitive to salt read more

I REALLY want to give this 5 stars. I could probably even be convinced to do it. Cocktails: Most leaned a bit towards the bitter for me, but they are well executed. There's one there now I can't find on the menu they said is going to stay for summer - it was a bit small in quantity, but well rounded - floral and fruity and not too sweet. Sorry I can't find the name. smoke & mirrors was too smoky for me, didn't like it (but get it if you like smoke), They sat our group of 8 almost 40 minutes late. I really didn't care, I swear. We were having drinks and it was fine, we had each other to chat with. However, they did give us an enormous cheese board to compensate, and it's one of the best cheese boards I've had in YEARS. Everything fresh, excellent selection, wow. It would have cost a fortune... Apps: Chicken Liver Mousse: Very good, possibly excellent, but about 1/10 the amount of bread you need to go with it- please add more because we left an enormous quantity of mousse, having nothing to spread it on. Brussels Sprouts Salad: Good, but not excellent. A little bland, or just nothing stood out Frites: They're frites, they're good, nothing to write home about Whole rainbow trout: Holy toledo. FREAKING FANTASTIC fish. I didn't share. The fish was perfectly cooked, the lemon buerre was velvety and not too lemony. Amazing (although they could have put a tad less on, it was a bit over buttered). Potatoes were ALMOST undercooked, but just passed. Spinach was the perfect accompaniment, and just wilted (perfect) Desserts were all 4/5 - I can't remember any one specifically except some chocolate mousse squares, predictably good. Vincent has an amazing ambiance. Although I didn't get to have dinner, we ordered a couple bottles of wine as well as a charcuterie and cheese platter and it was delicious. Our waitress was extremely friendly as well as knowledgeable. I think this is a great place for a date, or a girl's wine night. Can't wait to visit again next time I'm in Chicago. read more

No. The trouble began on the way to the table w/the hostess only to be intercepted by the waitstaff that "NO THEY CAN'T SIT THERE!" in a rather indiscreet matter. After some back-and-forth the staff decided that yes, we can indeed sit but only if we leave by 8. After we were seated the server seemed surprised we were told to leave by 8 and said to take our time. I have no problem waiting at the bar, but jerking our expectations around with mixed signals is NOT the ticket. It was just awkward watching them decide in real time what to do with us. Apps were pretty good... pomme frites with some mayonnaise'y concoction was pretty delightful. I ordered the burger and it came out red and cool on the inside (so much for "medium rare") and i ended up only having a few bites. In his defense, our VERY GOOD, VERY CUTE waiter did ask "is that ok?" and I feigned YES as to not be a fussy bitch with our dining companions (who are old friend we hadn't seen in a while.) So I suffered my not-so-good meal in silence. Ahhhh martyrdom... but i digress....My Boo got the wildly over-priced hangar steak and later told he it was a rather profound disappointment. "Flavorless," I just confirmed with him moments ago. Dessert was un-memoranble (as in literally I don't recall what I got.) Oh wait i just recalled: the lemon poundcake something-or-other that was tasty but stale. Maybe I'm just Jersey trash with an unsophisticated palate and I don't know WTF I'm talking about...Or maybe, just maybe, this place is an over-priced, over-hyped strikeout. Food is creative and delish! Ambiance is awesome. BUT Service is HORRIBLE! We waited 45 minutes for our appetizers. They brought the wrong one. "Made up for it" by leaving the incorrect order & bringing the original order. 2nd glass of wine was NOT asked for, but brought. We thought this was "to be nice." The 2nd glass wine was on the bill, and we realized who was being nice by not walking out after waiting over 30 min for apps. Us and everyone else who languished... Not sure I'll be back. read more

I've been meaning to write this review for quite some time but really wanted to lend Vincent the thoughtful consideration it deserves. I pride myself on my passion for, and understanding of, food. Being of diverse ethnic background and having lived in Europe for a number of years, I've been exposed to a wide array of cuisines and to some of the best (and worst) the culinary world has to offer. I am not saying this makes me an expert, but rather, experienced. In my constant search for the finest food purveyors in places near and far, I have consistently been bored, let-down, and sometimes even irritated, by the lack of vision, creativity and culinary skill so many restaurants and/or their chefs seem to demonstrate. If I see one more pretentious eatery serve up yet another rendition of "braised pork belly," "oven roasted pig face," "goat liver mousseline" or other such offal and try to pass it off as innovative "head-to-tail cookery" I think I will, quite simply, throw a plate of beef tallow fries at them! These types of places are such an insult, because they act as though THEY are going to teach YOU what good food is...as if you didn't already know! Vincent sets itself apart from the pork-belly-poseurs in very important and measurable ways: by offering substance without pretension. And in doing so, shows a great amount of respect for its patrons. In fact, pretense doesn't even seem to be in the staff's vernacular here, as chef Joncarl and his team exude nothing but warmth and congeniality from the moment you step through the door. Vincent does not subscribe to latest "foodie" trends and trappings of the day. True chefs don't need to. Here, the quality ingredients and perfect execution of each dish speak for itself. Now isn't that what the culinary art form is supposed to be all about? The Dutch onion and mustard soups, mussels provencal, seafood stew, foie gras, bitterballen and baby beet salad were all truly outstanding. I cannot wait to return again to try other items I missed on my last visit. The prix fixe is an outstanding value, especially given the generous portions and there is a very nice beer and wine selection in addition to offering a convenient byob option. Vincent is very unique, in that it makes you feel like a special occasion, even if it's only a random Wednesday night. Basically, I-heart-Vincent. Can you tell? read more

Phenomenal food, but my god, what abysmal service! Four of us were seated immediately for Sunday brunch, but were ignored for fifteen minutes. I finally approached the nearest server and alerted him to the situation; it would have been nice if he'd at least gotten our drinks started, but instead he left to find our server. He appeared a few minutes later, not particularly apologetic, and hugely awkward. When he revealed that he was new, it made more sense. Unfortunately, the service never improved. My friend was interested in the mimosa of the day and the specials, and not only did he not know what they were, but he didn't offer to immediately find out. And even though we ordered drinks in that moment, they didn't appear for another fifteen minutes, which the server blamed on the bartender losing the ticket. Whether or not that's the case, I don't know, but it was really shoddy. The food and drinks were lovely. I ordered the cheesemonger bloody, which came with a full cheese board, crostini, honey, and blueberries. What a wonderful surprise! We ordered the smoked pork hash, grilled lamb burger, eggplant breakfast sandwich, and smoked salmon breakfast sandwich, and came *thisclose* to licking our plates. The smoked salmon was incredibly messy, as the bread was too tough to cut through without serious effort, but the flavors were there. I'll give them another chance based solely on the food, but that was truly a 0-star service experience. read more

We just had dinner for a second time at Vincent. Both times the food was delicious, and the drinks were great. Try the chicken liver mousse with sourdough However, both times, on our way home, we discussed the smugness of the staff. There's a "better-than-you" air about the service, and it seems inappropriate (and unnecessary) for a restaurant of this caliber. It probably won't keep us from coming back for a third visit, but three strikes and you're out. read more

Third time's a charm... I live nearby and really wanted to love this place. We had two less than memorable experiences, and then recently we gave it another shot and had a great meal. It's such a cozy dining room with candles lining the walls. Our waiter was efficient and mellow. I had a gnocchi with kabocha squash and sage... perfectly wintery and extremely delicious! My dining partner had a pork dish and raved about it. The cheese plate was really good, fresh baked bread with garlic butter is amazing... The biggest surprise was the cocktails-- they were fantastic. Better than a recent trip to the Violet Hour, believe it or not... and right here in the neighborhood. So, if you've been to Vincent before and had an okay time, give it another shot-- the menu right now is great, the drinks are really tasty, and overall it's a classy experience. PS On a more recent visit, they took down our number and promised to call when a spot at the bar became available. They never called, which surprised me. read more

Having lived in Andersonville for nearly 7 years now, I'm ashamed that it took me this long to make it into Vincent. My girlfriend and I went with another couple on a Tuesday night. Vincent's ambiance is cozy and romantic with soft lighting...perfect for couples or a group of 4. That night, Vincent had a three-course special (small plate, salad, and entree) which we all ordered. When we made the reservation, we noted that one of the diners (me) was gluten-free. The server introduced himself and immediately said that he understood one of us was GF. He talked me through each entree and shared how the chef could make it GF. I was impressed. He said, "We actually do read your notes when you make your online reservations." The food service was not rushed which allowed for each course to be enjoyed. The menu changes often, so it's unlikely that you'll always see your favorites. I had a small plate of kale, sausage and white beans that was delicious--though I see that it's not on the menu at the moment. I shared with the group and they all agreed it was their favorite. I had their delicious coffee-rubbed pork loin entree while the group all loved the hanger steak they ordered (though if you take home your leftovers, it looses its flavor and tenderness once reheated). The main entrees were served on carving boards giving the dining experience a little extra zest. I always heard good things about Vincent ( including that Beyonce and Jay-Z dined there in 2011) and am glad that I finally made it there. Looking forward to my next visit. read more

This is the very first local business I can no longer support. Service was shockingly horrendous. The way management treated us bordered on humiliation... all at a place where the food is hit or miss. THE GOOD * Cozy lighting THE BAD (ACTUALLY, HORRIBLE) * Rude, arrogant, disrespectful management * Awful, inattentive, disorganized service * Hit or miss food * Noisy when filled (very difficult to hold a conversation) * Nowhere to wait comfortably (and YES, expect to wait, even if you have reservations) It's a shame because there have been so many good restaurants in this space over the past 20 years. I have been going to this location since its early days when it was the Dellwood Pickle. The BEST THING ANY OF US CAN DO for the neighborhood is to let them go out of business and hope a good restaurant returns to this location. read more

I went here for brunch and thought it was ok, but not great. I ordered the fried oysters with scrambled eggs. The eggs were fine as was the toast. The oysters were plentiful, but the taste of the breading was rather unappealing and actually detracted from the oysters. The flavor of the breading also did not complement the eggs very well. The orange juice was fresh. The restaurant was not crowded, which was nice. The atmosphere is appealing as it was when this space was La Tache. It was absolutely freezing in there, however. I ended up wearing my coat inside. I would try this restaurant again, but probably not for brunch. There are better, tried and true brunch spots in the neighborhood. read more

As of right now, I am obsessed with this restaurant! I can honestly say it is one of my faves. I came here on a date with my husband and cannot rave enough about it! When I go out to dinner, I love getting water without asking for it. I also love free bread! Vincent does both, and the garlic butter... divine! Seriously so good and went perfect with my glass of white wine. We shared the Pork Belly for an appetizer, yum! I had the Salmon and my husband had the Lamb Burger. So delicious! The sauces and sides all go perfectly together. We then shared the chocolate cake with peanut butter center. The perfect size to share and a great palate cleanser. I also love the ambiance. I have to admit, a lot of my restaurant choices as of late have been dependent on where I have A la Cards for, but I'm okay with that because tonight I discovered Vincent. We got there around 7pm on a Saturday night and ended up sitting at the bar since we didn't have reservations. Normally I'm against sitting at a bar to eat dinner, but this was okay. We had enough room and everything, even though the rest of the place was pretty packed. The decor and atmosphere are really cozy, and the service was awesome. Truly great. For appetizers we had the special crab risotto and house made corn dog. That's right- coooorn doooog. Ah-mazing. It was delicious. The breading was crispy and the dog flavorful. The tiny bite I got of the risotto was really nice. The flavors were really great and it was perfectly done. We both had the lamb burger for dinner. Also, freaking delish. The amount of fries they came with was ridiculous- they were hot out of the fryer and darn tasty. The dipping sauce was pretty seriously good too. The burgers were perfectly cooked and had all the flavors we were promised. The bun was grilled and the burger was juicy. I'm so happy to have finally had a great burger experience after my last two just flopped. Thank you, Vincent. The only thing I was a little disappointed in was my drink. They have this special liquor called hum, which is made with hibiscus and ginger. And while I applaud them for the originality (and even though I am such a sucker for all things made with fresh ginger) it just didn't work for me. It was way too sweet. Wouldn't repeat that one. I've been here twice. The first time I came with my special someone who is now my husband. I don't recall what we ate our first time but I do recall the amazing service, the great cocktails and the charming ambiance. I made reservations last minute for a Friday night. They were able to accommodate. When we arrived we were promptly seated and our glasses filled with water. Our waiter came out to greet us and hand us the menus and it turns out it was the same waiter we had for our first visit. He was just as cordial and friendly as the first time. For the cocktails we each had two. I had one of the fall selections with lemon and St. Germain and it was perfectly sweet, and flowery. I think this cocktail could be for spring or summer as well. The 2nd cocktail I had was spicy and used rye. I cannot remember the names of either. My husband had a gin drink of some sort. Very crisp. Then he had something reminiscent of a Negroni. Very spicy and sweet with deep and floral tones. That was my favorite drink of the night. We started with an appetizer that was a special of the night. It was grilled calamari on squash risotto with sage butter. This was so good. The dish was huge and just enough for two - perhaps three people. The squash risotto was slightly sweet with touches of sage and the calamari was very delicate with buttery sage flavor. It was terrific. The combination of the slightly sweet squash risotto and the buttery rich sage calamari was surprisingly complimentary. For dinner I ordered the Beer Battered Haddock on Snert. This was amazing. I loved it. I love pea soup and bacon so I loved the snert (snert is just pea soup). The haddock was crispy on the outside and very flaky and buttery on the inside. It was lying atop the snert. The snert was the consistency of mashed potatoes and had large chunks of carrots and small bits of some type of bacon. My husband ordered the Summer Chicken Pud Pud. It came out with this golden crisp skin surrounded by some sort of yummy roasted root veggies, a piece of sage sausage, savory bread pudding, tomatoes. It was... A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. Of course we had huge portions served to us so dessert was out of the question. I cannot wait to come back and try something new. This place is so quaint and unique. I was starving on a Friday night at 10 pm and wanted a small, quiet bistro. There are so few of these in Chicago since everything is so damn glam these days. We live in the hood and went on a whim with little expectation and were extremely surprised. My endive and apple salad was outstanding. The dressing was perfect, the produce so crisp and fresh. I ordered skate in a nod to my favorite dish when this space was La Tashe (the original one, oy the second one was such a nightmare). I liked Vincent's skate even better. It was such a tender, flavorful piece of skate, the best I have ever had. There was fresh corn as part of the dish that tasted as though it had just been picked off an organic farm and cut off the ear. My husband's food was more Indonesian influenced, and I can't remember what he ate but he raved it. So many restaurants in Chicago hit you over the head with the green, local, and organic sledge hammer and then serve veggies that are super mediocre. I loved that Vincent had some of the best produce I have had in Chicago, yet they aren't in your face taunting the hell out of it. My only complaint of the place is their music was WAY too loud and way too dance party. Their food is excellent, service so friendly, menu refined and then they play thumbing dance music with some B-52s thrown in and it kind of ruins the atmosphere. If they played more chill music, I think I would eat there weekly. read more

Great seasonal menu, staff are all characters and deserve their own stand up nite, rotating cocktail selection (Brian is fantastic), and cheese and wine pairings that will keep you wanting more. Crispy, golden white fish is a great weakness of mine. Without reservations, we popped into Vincent before heading over to nearby Marty's to have a bit of worthy sustenance. We pondered a quick bite at Taste of Heaven bakery, but I said hell no, this is the big city and I'm going to have a posh meal, let's celebrate life! :) My friend ordered a nice bubbly drink, name escapes me, had a stick of black licorice hanging out of it, a bit of vodka, cranberry and another fruit juice, possibly lime. It was amazing. I ordered a glass of vouvray brut because I had my eye on the artichoke stuffed trout entree. The very friendly server apologized and said they'd have to substitute with tilapia. i wasn't offended at all. It's one of my favorites, also. A short while later, the tilapia came to to the table in a huge bowl in some sort of celery cream sauce I think, with a bit of fresh mixed greens on top. Vincent delivered on the artichoke, as the taste was very obvious and wonderful. There was a bit of dill relish in their possibly, or something pickled. My friend who doesn't eat much really dug into this crispy fish... it has to be the best white fish meal I've had since visiting Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill in Manhattan last fall. There must have been a few parties going on this past Saturday night because we walked into this fancy bistro and it was very, very, very loud in the dining area... but in a good, festive, fun way. I daydreamed that it was sprinkled with a former high school cheerleaders reuniting, one celebrating a birthday. I wanted to check this place out with it was La Tache, but procrastinated. The dark, rich wood walls in the bar are gorgeous and the upscale chocolate and gold wallpaper in the dining room is sorta Walnut Room, the next generation. Very nice place in Edgewater. The decor is more on the nicer scale, however the place is super relaxed. A place where you can dress it up for date night or neighborhood spot for a good dinner. We ordered the crispy pork as an appetizer and it was very good. The only downfall was that with three people we demolished it. It did not last very long. Perfect serving if it was for two. For my main entre I ordered the white wine mussels and frites. The frites were like crack! They were perfectly cooked (crispy but not burned) and salty. Everyone at the table could not stop themselves from eating these things! The mussels were solid the broth was savory and a very good compliment to the mussels. The mussels were a very good serving in size as well. The only knock was that the mussels were small (which they made up for in serving size). Amazing place. Cocktails well crafted, people are super friendly, and fries are amazing. The vibe is classy but comfortable... a cross between a place you can come regularly (like Cheers, but with a 21st urban polish) and where you can take friends/family/significant others. I've come here a handful times. The first time I was there was already a 5 star, and probably the best experience. It was brand new. We came because we heard that cocktails were great and unique. We weren't disappointed. But what made it stand apart was the service. Our "Maître d'" came to us to see how we were doing, and when we were unsure of what cocktails to get, he got the head mixologist, who was super friendly and accommodating (and skillful as the cocktails were delish). After that, we came a few more times. Mostly always for the cocktails and always at the bar. Why no food besides the fries (which are great btw)? Well, I'm vegetarian and most of the menu was off-limit :( But I think they started having stuff that I could snack on, and which I don't mind, because the cocktails are phenomenal. And the staff is super-friendly: the place makes you feel that you've always came there, where people know you and where you belong. read more

My sons and I were in Chicago for opening week to see the Cubs earlier this year and had a chance to stop by this jewel of a restaurant. What a wonderful place! The place was packed, a great sign, the owner and his staff were amazing. My two sons still talk about the desserts we had at Vincent. I think next year instead of going to see the Cubs, we will go to eat at Vincent and then squeeze some visits to Wrigley :) read more

Good news is the food is awesome. Bad news is the limited and limited appealing menu items listed. (including drinks) The drink menu just isn't too appealing. My friend had "The Spirit Animal" which had rum and mescal in it. He liked it... I thought it was horrible. But then, I'm not big on the bitter drinks. I just had a citron vodka and club soda.. (no other flavors)... The polenta appetizer was outstanding - it had so many ingredients in it such as asparagus, ramp, mushrooms etc.. that at first I wasn't sure it was the correct one delivered but as I looked around, there was plenty of polenta. I opted for the Roasted Amish Chicken and it was moist and delicious. My dining companion had the muscles with the white wine sauce. My only complaint is again... limited appealing menu options... wasn't in the mood for a lamb burger or skate wing.. but then again, I never am. Still, if you are in the mood for Chicken or Muscles, definitely visit Vincent, but have your drinks down the block at Martys first. read more

No recent restaurant experience has come as close to making me feel like a welcomed guest as Vincent! I sensed a wonderful energy upon entering as the decor is in good taste and the lighting is very flattering to both food and guest alike. We went there to celebrate a birthday for a close friend, who also happens to be a huge fan of Vincent. She had talked up the place quite a bit for months, so I have to admit that I was very hopeful before even setting off for Andersonville. My expectations, though set very high, were not at all disappointed. My friend, the loyal patron, had already ordered an array of sumptuous appetizers-some I would never have considered an option on my own-but feeling adventurous, I lapped up the bone marrow and warm bread and delighted in the mixture of tastes in the endive salad. She had selected an excellent pairing of white wines to accompany our first course. As I generally consider the wait staff knowledgeable when selecting an entree, I followed Nick, the co-owner's, suggestion and ordered the trout. The taste was magnificent: the trout was served with lentils, spinach and so much more that I had no leftovers. Because there were four in our party, we were able to share a number of desserts, all of which were so different yet delectable! I have to say that I have never tasted a more rich bread pudding anywhere on the globe. It was truly decadent and something I would make the trip just to order! The array of wines and digestives naturally added to the dining experience, and I look forward to visiting Vincent again in the future. Almost 5 Stars?! I'm shocked at the hype this place is getting. I've been keeping my eye on Vincent for about a year now, so perhaps I read too much into the wonderful reviews on Yelp? Regardless, my visit last night was less than ideal and it'll take a lot for me to make a return visit. I made a reservation at 6:30pm on a Thursday evening since family was in town visiting. We arrived promptly and we were seated near the back of the restaurant. The atmosphere at Vincent is a little odd--you walk in and are greeted by the hostess and a small bar is nestled behind the hostess stand. The rest of the tables are in a connected room that has about 15 or so tables. This restaurant was DARK at 6:30pm, being solely lit by tall candles that were evenly disbursed along the walls and tables. It was a little tough to read the menu, but luckily the candles on our table gave off just enough. The wait staff was very attentive, and our waitress came over a minute or two after we were seated to take our drink order. I noticed that they had an offering of some seasonal beer (Jaw Jacker Pumpkin Ale, anyone?), which is always a welcome attribute. After our drinks arrived, we put in our order of two lamb burgers and the squash risotto for our party of three. The waitress indicated that the lamb burgers take awhile to cook up because they're thick, but we were more than happy to wait. They brought out some complimentary bread and butter, which was surprisingly quite tasty! Normally I'm not a fan of the bread that restaurants offer to munch on before your meal, but the butter is what lured me in. The butter was swimming in olive oil and had roasted garlic cloves mixed in, which created a nice spread, and I had to force myself to stop! The burgers came out about 20 minutes or so after putting in our order, and they looked fantastic! Although, as the saying goes, looks can be deceiving. The burgers were supposed to be medium rare, but these looked medium well to well. The meat itself was under-seasoned and dry, and I couldn't even taste the lamb flavor, which was a HUGE let down. The pairings on the burger were nice though, the feta reached a nice "oozy" consistency when it met the heat of the burger. The olive tapenade was also a nice touch, but it didn't compensate for the overall lack of flavor. As for the frites, they also weren't seasoned and they reminded me of tasteless McDonalds fries. The aoili sauce was oddly reminiscent of straight up mayo, which was incredibly disappointing. The risotto was the saving grace of the entrees, and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it as I normally don't gravitate towards risottos. The squash was incredibly flavorful and the rice was cooked perfectly by having a slight bite and not being rubbery. I enjoyed how the risotto was topped with a few pieces of thinly sliced roasted/baked squash that added different consistencies to the dish. Yum. For my 40th birthday, My BF took me there. We live in the neighborhood and I always wanted to go and finally we made it. It was on Sunday 7pm so the restaurant was no so busy. There are lots of candles in the restaurant, on the wall, on the tables, I thought i was little too dark at the night. For starter, we ordered duck with bean and red cabbage with red wine sauce. It was tender and very good. For the main, I ordered today's special grilled white fish with asparagus, spinach, and bacon. It was layered and complex. It was very tasty and I enjoyed very much. My BF ordered beer battered cod, shrimp, and scallop on snert. I thought it was little too salty but the taste was good. the presentation was good. As for dessert, we ordered panna cotta with blueberry sauce and bread pudding. the panna cotta was soo yummy. the bread pudding was standard -okay. I would like to start this review by saying that I will definitely be trying Vincent again. I am simply not convinced that my first experience at this restaurant was the best they could offer. And my stars are crossed. As much as I'm saying in my head "meh, I've experienced better," I simply couldn't give Vincent 2 stars. So, I'm going to go with 3 stars regardless of that fact that several things were far from being "A-OK." Upon entering as a party of 3 on an early Friday evening, the host seemed shocked that we would dare walk in without a reservation. However, there were about 12 empty tables and as I expected, we were seated in about 12 seconds. Moving on. Our server was very friendly (and downright sexy i might add), attentive, talkative (but, not overly!), and all those other qualities that maker a server good. In other words, we found the service top notch. However, the food was...bottom notch? Well, not all of it. Maybe we ordered the wrong things. Such is life. I ordered the steak and when I wasn't asked how I wanted it cooked, I assumed this meant it would be served medium rare. But, it was medium. VERY medium. And really tough. In fact, it was terrible. It came with a side of brussels sprouts (which they gladly substituted the potatoes for), but they were under seasoned. In fact, there didn't seem to be a touch of seasoning on them at all. Not good. So, at this point, I was pretty disappointed. HOWEVER, the frites (although clearly not fresh, hand cut fries), came with three absolutely delicious dipping sauces. Also, the chocolate/peanut butter cake concoction we finished with was heavenly. And, our bottle of wine was excellent. So, there were some good points here. Someone else at my table had ordered the three course meal for $25 and we all agreed that it was the way to go. Everything had great flavor, was cooked perfectly and the price was right. In the end, I'll just order something else next time. The atmosphere is too comforting, the menu too exciting and the service too good to just blow this place off after one bad steak. My quest to try new brunch places continues with Vincent. I spend a lot of time in Andersonville and honestly never knew this place existed until a few months ago. It shows that if you're off the beaten path, meaning Clark, by just a few hundred feet, some people can't find you. I'm glad I did try out Vincent though. Went there for brunch at 11:30 on Sunday and there was hardly anyone there. I appreciate that some people are willing to wait 45 minutes to be seated at M. Henry or wherever, but why they do when there are so many other options is beyond me. But I digress... While waiting for my friends they filled my VERY large coffee mug and provided fresh cream. I liked the mug, because it was something I would use at home, not one of those little bitty mugs most places have. Overall coffee was good. I ordered the corned beef hash and my friend had the smoked pork hash. Both were great, although my friend's sunny side eggs were a little overdone and the yolk was hard. I found the corned beef to be delectable. Super moist, flavorful...nothing like my mom's corned beef (sorry ma!) The only negative was the hash was "deconstructed" as others have mentioned. I didn't notice the glob of onion underneath my toast until I accidentally scooped it up, thinking it was potato, and ate a mouthful. Yuck. Too much onion! So always remember to mix up everything on the plate REALLY well before diving in. A side note, the jam for the toast was super yummy. It was a bit unexpected to have the very sweet jam for my toast, but it complimented the very salty corned beef well. Will I go back? Maybe, but I have many other brunch places to try first! read more

The trick to understanding Vincent is to bear in mind that the category is "American (New)." Despite the French bistro menu and decor, Vincent is to a French bistro what Epcot's China Pavilion is to China. The food coming out of the kitchen can be quite fine (and for that I give 3 stars), but the front of the house is only styled like a French restaurant. This is not a French restaurant. Even in fairly humble restaurants in France or Quebec, there's a sense of structure or pacing that's lacking here. The kitchen might be France, but the dining room is Cheddar's. As Tyler F. points out, the service at Vincent can be slow, and service at a stately pace isn't necessarily a bad thing if you feel like you're in the hands of an expert who's making a deliberate choice about speed. What Vincent offers as bustling European charm is just slapdash and unstructured. None of this would be a problem if the entree prices were in the high teens or mid-20s, but Vincent's price tag is out of alignment with the food and experience they deliver. read more

This is the same owner as HB (Home Bistro) which is my favorite restaurant. My bf and I came here right after our trip to Amsterdam to relive our vacation. It felt like we were right back there. Very cozy inside and candlelit. Love it! We only ordered apps and were craving fries with mayo (an Amsterdam classic). The fries weren't exactly the same but were tasty nonetheless. We also had the foie gras and a great salad. This is a great place to bring a date...very intimate and it feels like you're in Europe. BYO as well. Yea! read more

After some after dinner debate, I decided Vincent is worthy of 5 stars. We had a 7:30 res for my birthday dinner, oh man, I was so excited. Cute little place - tiny and intimate, you definitely need a res to get in here. Anyway, after perusing the menu, I ordered a glass of wine to start. Everything on the menu looked really good. I decided on the endive salad to start and the main course was going to be mussels in mustard and dill. My husband ordered the sambal mussels, which was tamarind, shrimp paste, thai chilies and kaffir lime leaf. He also ordered the foie gras special for an app. We got some crusty bread with butter, garlic and olive oil to start. I almost melted off my seat. This bread was unbelievable. The flavors were amazing. Then the salad came... Salad was SO GOOD. I don't usually get too excited over salads, but this was great. Leafy greens, a mustard vinaigrette, toasted walnuts, endives and aged gouda. The perfect balance of bitter and sweet - definitely a must have before the rich rich mussels. The mustard and dill mussels were in a broth of cream, butter, garlic and pieces of brown bread in the broth. OMG. The mussels were so big and plump, and the broth was rich and subtle. But it didn't feel like you were being overpowered with richness, which was nice. It came with frites and an aioli, which, I mean, is to die for. Frites + aioli = heaven every time. My husband's sambal mussels were really good - REALLY spicy, which was a nice contrast to my milder ones. We both really liked what we chose. Before dessert I ordered a red light fizz cocktail, which is hum (a locally made spirit), ginger syrup and soda. Zing! Great digestive, super gingery, slightly sweet and slightly spicy. I really liked it. For dessert, per our waiters recommendation, we got the chocolate cake that sandwiched a peanut butter creme, topped with sea salt and drenched in chocolate sauce. I'm not usually a chocolate person, but this blew my goddamn face off. So good. Amazing place to go. Not too many vegetarian options (even some of the fish had meat in it)... but really, it was a great experience and we will be back. read more

...I knew nothing about Vincent except for the fact that they appear to be a bit of a media darling right now (Yelp reviews are spectacular and Chicago mag and others rave). When I researched the chef...I was hooked. Having lived in Amsterdam, I must admit to loving all that is Dutch. When my girlfreind and I arrived...Chef JonCarl hugged us and this would set the tone for the entire evening. I am so sick of the latest hotspot that charges you an arm and a leg and gives you a sterile, interior designer showcase with a big side of snootiness. Vincent welcomes you in to the warm bar / casual dining room that is lit by candles that flicker off the raised wood panel wainscotting...and swaddles you in a comfy culinary blanket. The food was all amazing...from the Dutch onion soup with Duck confit...to the Haddock...to the Moules met Frites (in five preparations)...you are transported canalside to Amsterdam by the decadent interpretations and sophisticated without being pretentious atmosphere.
