This place is awesome! Came here for a friends birthday and they serve you a giant plate of fresh made food. Plenty of seating and a lowkey vibe. I would recommend!!!

    Vegetable Fried Rice

My last order was fine. i'm sorry to say but this time the vegetable fried rice is very salty i can't even finish it even though i'm starving to death.

*IF you plan on coming here, please note, they do have a webpage and Days/Hours posted are different than what Yelp has listed. Volcano Wok is located in a strip plaza on the corner of Sunset & LaBrea, serving up Chinese, Hawaiian & Sushi, what NO Ice Cream and Donuts?! I happened upon this place while parking, we were originally headed for Tacos at the spot in same plaza, I wife loves Hawaiian BBQ so I asked if she'd rather go here, she had to say yes, no tacos for me #sadface The place was empty, ordered food for dine in and it took forever, I don't know how long this place has been around? First to review was in 2006, Perhaps they have a loyal following, because personally I don't know how they survived COVID with all the other businesses closing? But good for them! https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/volcano-wok-los-angeles?select=4s2PFCZXsq_QAW0HcaFLdA Hawaiian BBQ Beef ($15.50) https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/volcano-wok-los-angeles?select=_Uxi8w9OUpEAbOHUrU-rfQ *per menu - Grilled slices of Tender Beef Marinated in Island BBQ Sauce, Steam Rice & Mac Salad. Well, I'm not sure what the "Island Sauce" part is? But Tender it's NOT, nicely grilled slices of beef, a little fat not too bad but quite a bit of gristle, the Beef https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/volcano-wok-los-angeles?select=t389eopQjFYG91hjJuN1Dw on its own lacked flavor for something that's supposed to be marinated, they did have a nice Teriyaki sauce https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/volcano-wok-los-angeles?select=wlMkInEfE_mXUFGw7D3vcw which helped quite a bit. Steam Rice https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/volcano-wok-los-angeles?select=pj1JJhDHo9tYppRhPbR21A Well it's Rice..... Mac Salad https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/volcano-wok-los-angeles?select=fvC7lrVscoF6nK6m3qJvkQ WOW, I'm almost lost for words, my wife takes a bit of her Mac Salad and asked what I thought, so I took a bite, WORST Hawaiian Mac Salad I've ever had! It tasted like NO other Mac Salad I've ever had, this must be their own secret recipe BUT it's missing something that everyone else uses, whatever that ingredient is I'm not sure, just know this is made wrong! #FAIL Sriracha https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/volcano-wok-los-angeles?select=jO1i7Ea8uaVmW59WIuiW7Q It's either bootleg Sriracha or they water it way down. #shakeshead *Honestly I was between 3 Star it's OK, to 2 Star I'll pass, it was the price of $17+ with tax per meal that made me settle at 2 Stars!

Smokey, umami goodness. Got sunny side up eggs with runny yolks that just melt together with the gravy, rice, and pork. Heartwarming and gingery goodness. -BBQ chicken plate: also very solid, not super sweet like teriyaki and comes in a decent sized portion. Mac salad is legit and so good - perfect consistency and seasonings. -French toast: one of the best! A superb doughy, chewy, cinnamony, thick cut slice that I drowned in butter and syrup. Ordered take out and it was ready within 15 min or so. Parking lot looked tiny but we just parked on the residential street and it was a quick walk. Wish I lived closer (I'd be here all the time) but totally worth the trip - will be coming back again very soon!

I highly recommend getting the sauces on the side so you don't get smothered in them, especially the pancakes. The portions are medium-sized compared to other Haiwaiian restaurants I have been to (exception, the pancakes). The location? Very outdated but charming. Outside seating is a bit more fun, there is a door that slams so loudly you feel someone is banging on the wall. The service? Adequate. I would highly recommend a manager to walk around (or a server) greeting customers and making sure they have what they need. Lastly, the way they bring your food to the table is confusing for me. They ask for your name and then walk around calling you until they find you, I would recommend a number system. Overall a good experience.

All the elements of classic fried rice were present in abundance , and the char su was tender and moist and gave the whole dish a slight sweetness I'm a big dude and I was pretty hungry but I could only eat about half of my plate . I took the rest home and warmed it up in my non stick wok the next day for lunch and still couldn't eat it all. Their website says their dining room is closed, but the employee says it's open Thurs and Fri. Nevertheless, I followed the website's info and ordered pick up. Here's what I ordered: 1) Komai's Big Breakfast. Komai was Aloha's original chef. Two eggs with all the meats: Portuguese sausage, Spam, Vienna sausage, corned beef hash plus 2 scoops of rice and a Hawaiian roll. No surprises here, very nice. 2) Kal B Chicken plate lunch. Chicken marinated in the same sauce as the more familiar kalbi beef short ribs, with rice and mac salad. Top Restaurant is…read moretucked into a small, rundown shopping center on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena and from the outside you'd never guess what's waiting inside. This is my third visit and every single time it delivers. This is an Indonesian/Hawaiian restaurant -- and a seriously impressive one. The menu spans both worlds, and no matter which direction you go, you're in for something special. Take out only, no tables, but trust me -- you won't care. The 4 Piece Indonesian Fried Chicken with rice is an absolute must. Some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. The crust is insanely crispy, the seasoning is perfect, and the Indonesian dipping sauce ties it all together in a way that's completely unique. This alone is worth the drive. The Hawaiian plates are equally impressive. The short ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, the beef and chicken were perfectly marinated -- sweet, savory, and deeply flavorful. Everything comes with rice and a creamy mac salad, and the Hawaiian Sun drinks (Mango Orange and Strawberry Lilikoi) are the perfect companion to wash it all down. Plates run between $16-$20 but the portions are generous and the quality is exceptional -- you absolutely get your money's worth. The owner and cook are extraordinarily welcoming, and everything comes out hot and fresh every single time. Top Restaurant is a hidden gem of the highest order. If you're in Pasadena, make the trip.

Even after arriving, I almost changed my mind about ordering because the plaza itself looked very old and rough. I brought my girlfriend with me, and she was actually the one who said that since we were already there, we might as well try it. The restaurant is basically takeout only, and the inside is very simple and worn down. That said, the person taking our order was extremely friendly, which made the experience much better right away. After checking Yelp, I decided to order the Indonesian fried rice, BBQ chicken, and fried chicken. The fried rice was easily the highlight. I got it spicy, and it had a nice kick that made it feel more special. I'm not sure if this is part of the Indonesian style, but there were little bits of noodles mixed into the fried rice, which made it unique and really tasty. It also had a generous amount of meat inside, and the portion was huge. It was probably one of the best fried rice dishes I've had recently. The BBQ chicken was solid too. It had that tasty Hawaiian-style plate lunch feel, came with mac salad, and was seasoned well. The fried chicken was a little mixed for me. The crispy outside was good, but the chicken itself had a slight off taste, like it didn't feel as fresh as I hoped. Not terrible, but definitely not my favorite item. Overall, Top Restaurant surprised me in a good way. The place itself is very no-frills, but the fried rice alone makes it worth coming back. I'd definitely return for that.
