Alright bun bo spot to get the craving gone. I wouldn't say it's the best BBH I have ever gotten, I thought it was honestly a little bit too salty for my liking. But it is in the heart of little saigon, there's parking around the plaza and a prime spot for going around. They are super fast, restaurant is very clean and gives the vibe of a regular viet cafe (lots and lots of vinahouse). I also enjoy the variety of toppings on the BBH, really stacked bowl. The best bun bo hue place is OC!! My parents drive here from LA just to eat here. The soup is so flavorful and the bowls are filled the brim with noodles and meat. I don't even eat the bun Bo hue in LA anymore because it can't compare. Came here with a girlfriend and wanted to share something as we both can never finish our bowls. The waiter recommended the vua Bo dac biet. It came out in a HUGE bowl with all different types of meats. There was ALOT of meat and it also came with the bone marrow with ALOT of meat on it. It came out almost instantly so we didn't have to wait long at all which was perfect because we were both starving. It came with so much food that we weren't able to finish it between us two. Come here with my mom the other day for late lunch. The place is nice and clean. The service is fast. We ordered a large bowl of spicy beef noodle $15 and a giant beef bone $8. The soup is not spicy, if you want to be more spicy you can add more chili. Since I can't eat spicy food this is perfect for me. The beef bone has good amount of tendon on it. Horrible customer service! OMG! We used to come here a lot and really enjoyed the Bun Bo Hue here but our visit, our last visit here, says a lot about this restaurant. If you want to hire someone to work at a restaurant, the individual has to have some social skills. The full-figured young lady was just so rude. She never said a word even when we ordered, when we said thank you, or even when we requested for something. She looked angry the whole time we were here dining. Secondly, the place is just dirty. I know that most Asian restaurants are not up to par in the cleanliness department, but this place really makes it difficult to eat here. The table was so oily and dirty and it smelled. Yuck. My wife had to get a paper towel to clean the table before we ate. Not only is the place just disgusting, the way in which the girl brought out our food was just unacceptable! She had her thumb in our bowl, literally in our juice. Gross! How does she think that we can enjoy our food when she has the same dirty fingers she cleans the tables off with, in our soup bowl? Gross! Lastly, the taste of the noodle soup as well as the tendon bone quality changed. The soup usually came out piping hot but this time it was barely hot. The tendon bone came out dry and cold! The bone never came out cold in the past. When we requested for the tendon bone to be warmed, the girl just picked up the bowl and took into the back without a word or apology. When the tendon bone came out, it was hot, but when I took a bite into some of the pieces I had cut earlier on, it was crunchy, griddy and sandy, as if they had dropped the meat on the floor. So gross. Before taking it back into the kitchen to rewarm the tendon bone, there wasn't a crunchy, griddy and sandy bite to it. OMG! The overall great taste wasn't there. This is my favorite restaurant to go to when I'm craving bun bo! I normally get bun Bo nam since I like the thin sliced rare meat and it is so good. I'm penning this review with a heavy heart as the quality and experience have taken a nose dive by approximately 90% in my estimation. What was once my go-to destination for comfort and cuisine is now a far cry from its former glory. Let's start with the soup, the raison d'être of Vua Bún Bò. Traditionally, the rich, umami broth of Bún Bò should be complex and layered, showcasing a delicate balance of salty, sweet, sour, and spicy flavors. However, the soup I was served during my last visit was shockingly salty. It was as if the ocean's tide had made its way into my bowl, an unwelcome intrusion that drowned the subtle nuances that used to define their soup. The beef, once tender and flavorful, was disappointingly tough and chewy. Each bite was a battle, a far cry from the melt-in-your-mouth morsels of the past. The cuts were thick and seemingly low quality, a surprising choice for a place named "King of Bún Bò." Moreover, the broth was filled with fat, which instead of adding a silky richness, felt heavy and unappetizing, further sullying the overall experience. Now, onto the vegetable accompaniments - one of the most critical components that should freshen up each bite and provide a crisp contrast to the robust flavors of the soup. The portion was miserably small, and the variety was pitiful. Bún Bò's charm lies in the harmony of its components, and in scrimping on the vegetables, Vua Bún Bò has dealt a severe blow to its balance. Economically speaking, I understand that costs rise over time, and businesses often have to adjust. However, the significant increase in price at Vua Bún Bò seems not to have come with an improvement, but rather, a severe decline in quality. As such, the value proposition for customers like me has drastically reduced. I yearn for the days when Vua Bún Bò stood as a beacon of culinary excellence in the world of Vietnamese cuisine. Sadly, the current state of affairs is a mere shadow of its former self. The essence of Bún Bò - its soul - seems to have been lost in translation, replaced with an overpriced, underwhelming dish that leaves much to be desired. In conclusion, my latest experience at Vua Bún Bò left a bitter taste in my mouth. This once royal establishment needs to regain its crown, reinvigorate its quality, and refocus on what made it the king in the first place. Really wanted to try this place due to the big bowl of bone marrow (xí quách). So glad I tried. The bun bo hue broth itself in my opinion is ok. Wish it was a bit more bolder and had more of a fermented shrimp ( mm tôm) taste as well as a little bit more lemon grass accents. Also, was pretty sad how the soup came out not as hot as I'd like it would. Some places have it nice and hot where when you place the veggies in that it will actually still be warm. However, here it's not as hot. The spicy beef vermicelli (bún bò Hu) gets accompanied with a nice slaw (banana flower, cabbage, bean sprouts, fresh herbs). It's topped off with some fresh and crisp sliced onion and cilantro. Condiments are fully stocked and loaded with pickled peppers/garlic, SPICY Chile sate (chili oil), fish sauce. They don't have fermented shrimp paste out on the table but you can always ask for some as well as some extra limes. I love mixing up the fresh chili, chili oil, shrimp paste, and lime juice to make a dipping sauce for the meat. They do a great job with loading the bowls with plenty slices of brisket, beef tendon, pork hock. I like ordering the small bowl of bun bo with an added side of the xí quách(bone marrow). While both bowls had slice of tender beef, the Bún Bò Huế includes a slice of pork leg, a slice of pork roll and pork blood pudding. Both bowls were good, satisfying and served steamy hot. The extra beef marrow was buttery and creamy, but very fatty. The Vietnamese coffee with sweetened condensed milk was way too sweet for me. It simply had too much of sweetened condensed milk. Vua means King so it didn't live up to the hype/name for Bun Bo Hue. The meats (pork) had a awful smell to it. The soup/broth was too plain.
