The food is delicious. My favorite is the homemade cookies. You can't go wrong with the soup or the day.

I really like this place. It's been a good six years since I'd been here last, and it was a definite yes, when suggested by a buddy for lunch today. Boy was it worth the reminder of how great this place is. I ordered a 1 and 1, which is like their half and half, soup and sandwich... The Ruben is done well, just the right amount of toasted rye crunchiness to pastrami and sauerkraut. Glad I ordered this sandwich. The other sandwich was just as solid, but I thought it was a soup. The Hot and Blue, which was the hot beef with blue cheese. It wouldn't have been my first pick, but it was not bad at all... I was just expecting a soup. Read the descriptions fully :) I've had the tortilla soup and the chili, both are good... and would have went well with either half of my sandwich(es?). Along with my two sandwich halves, I ordered a drink and they always have blended teas, and coffee, and a fountain sodas... bottomless. Anyways, As Yelpers have already commented, the staff is friendly, and the service is quick. Even if you get your food quickly, or to go... take some time to take in the antique-y-ness of the building, and it's decor. In the late fall or pre-summer you even enjoy the fresh air on the front porch. Very cool location, and food is always a hit. read more

I've had W D Deli on my Yelp list for awhile now and so glad I finally got to try it!! I drove pretty far across town for it and tried beating a rush on a weekday, which at first glance I did ... until the unthinkable happened. The cash register/POS completely craps out for the customer in front of me. It took a good 15 extra minutes for their order to be completed before they could take my order. Customer service was excellent, and we were still charged for our orders .... But about 45 minutes later we realized they definitely lost our order. In fact unfortunately they lost about 20 orders. No one had realized it until I spoke up. This probably doesn't happen on the daily so I'm soo glad the manager (or owner?) made it right for us. I honestly wouldn't have minded if I didn't have my kids with me who were starving. My mom tried 2 different sandwiches for the choose 2 lunch special and loved them both. (Pimento and cranberry walnut chicken salad). My kids had a kids pb&j, Mac & cheese, fruit cups and milk. Let me telllllll you. THE MAC AND CHEESE IS HEAVEN!!! That's putting it lightly. I should've bought extra for home. Also, the kids meals are perfectly sized !!!! My toddlers easily could've shared one but I wasn't sure since I was a first timer. I did try a few bakery items. Peanut butter chocolate chip cookie - delicious but needs more chocolate flavor ! The peanut butter tasted a little off but was still very good. Chocolate zucchini bread - flavorful and good but unfortunately went moldy just 2 days later. It was stored in the closed plastic container I received it in and was sooo shocked it went bad so fast !! It might not have been very fresh. So I was disappointed... didn't get but 2 bites of it Also a coconut cookie which actually looked like an iced oatmeal cookie. lol could've fooled me!!! I don't like coconut at all and I loved this. The deli itself was decorated cozy and cute. I definitely want to sit upstairs next time. Such a cool option to have. There's also outdoor seating which is great for pretty weather ! The front door seems to need fixing because it stays open if you don't physically close it all the way. (Doesn't help flies from staying out unfortunately) Side note- restrooms are super clean and do have a diaper changing station. Big plus , a lot of older restaurants do not! Overall I was sad we went on such a cruddy day for the business but out of their control. I will definitely be back soon!!! I have to try more and get that heavenly Mac & cheese again ! read more

I tried the chicken tortilla soup today. I'd give it a 3/5 it was ok. Not the best tortilla soup I've had, but had good flavor. The gooey lemon bar however, that....that was delicious. Has a soft center and a slight crunchy layer on the top. Just lemony enough. read more

I have always enjoyed WD Deli. But today was disappointing. I'm not sure if this is a norm for online orders, but it was very subpar. It's a shame because I see the effort the new owners are putting into growing the business. Unfortunately, I feel that the workers do not reflect that as the way they prepared my meal. My Caesar salad was drenched in what didn't even taste like Caesar salad dressing, but more like mayo and 2 to 3 croutons in my entire salad . My turkey Panini was burnt on the edges. Meanwhile, still not toasted in the middle. I'm all for dining in at WD Deli never a problem but sometimes I do not have the opportunity to do that and order online. Would 100% recommend stopping by and grabbing a sandwich from W D! The inside is adorable and the sandwiches are so fresh! I tried this place for the first time when I went to the bookstore behind it. My friend mentioned it was a good place so I stopped in. She was not wrong!!! Ever since that first visit, I kid you not I was DREAMING about their sandwiches!! I took off the next Friday from work and RODE MY BIKE TO W D. Was recommended this place by a friend. This was a great lunch spot! The food was delicious and there was no complaints! As a person who has to eat gluten free options usually the bread falls apart. Here that wasn't the case! The sandwich was so good and full of protein. The cookies were immaculate and they even have samples for you try which I loved! Behind the restaurant is the rock garden. There are two entrances which was tricky, made it seem we went through the wrong door. Bathrooms were kept very clean and only saw two and they were gender neutral. W D Deli never disappoints me. My go to is the Turkey Avocado Wrap and it was delicious as usual. They give you plenty of avocado in the wrap and I definitely appreciate that. I tried the mac n cheese for the first time it was pretty good. It was a good portion of it and it was creamy. It only lacked a touch of heat. I do wish that they would be open for dinner time on the weekends. There have been times when I wanted to eat at W D Deli and they were already closed. The charming atmosphere of this place had me feeling like I was having brunch in someone's living room and the staff was equally as friendly. A bit disappointed in where things have gone with the food, menu pricing and interior upkeep. Inflation increases costs, simple math to understand. However my expectations don't lower with Price hikes and I don't really know anyone who does. You use to add a cup or bowl of soup to a sandwich at a discounted price if you were "upgrading" your side. Now maybe the young lady who helped me wasn't trained thoroughly or maybe they really did stop. Either way what use to be a reasonable price for 1 adult and 1 child turned into a $30+ lunch consisting of soup and sandwiches. Bit too high, but still reasonable if the quality was what I remembered. Instead the tomato soup that use to be very broth based homemade tasting has a more Campbell's soup consistency like someone used a bunch of concentrated tomato as the base of this soup. It also advertises as just tomato basil, but now has a flavor profile like there's more of a bisque (cream/dairy base) these days. At the end of the day I can't justify the price with the downgraded recipe changes and I'm sad to say I won't be frequenting as often as I use to. read more

Worth the hype! Such a friendly and homey environment. I love the interior! Every worker I interacted with was so cheerful and helpful. I got a sandwich with a side salad and an iced tea and it's exactly what you want from a deli. It's nothing fancy or particularly extraordinary, but it's really satisfying. I didn't get the chocolate chip cookie because I didn't know this when I went, but apparently they're KNOWN for it so if you're reading this, add that to your order :) Very lively environment with people catching up with friends or just reading the newspaper. Wish they would do better posting of soup of the day, but they do have some staples and then a specialty soup. It tends to be a little crowded at times, but larger parties can place your number on the stairs and head upstairs for larger table seating. Stopped in for Saturday lunch on my wife's suggestion. After ordering I went to sit at a table and the chair I sat down on was very wobbly. I immediately stood up and realized the legs were broken on one end. I moved it to the side. When the server came by with the food I informed her that it was broken and I nearly fell over sitting on it. I suggested taking it to the back but she just pushed it back under the table next to us. She never returned to fix the problem because a long line started piling up. Most likely forgot or just didn't understand the ramifications if someone sits next on that chair and hurts themselves. Hopefully they removed that seat from commission after we left. As far as the food I ordered a turkey sandwich on foccacia bread and caesar salad. I wasn't impressed with the bread. It was dense and not flavorful I was expecting more onthe airy fluffy side. The density made me think it could be frozen bread or going stale? I ended up just eating the interior ingredients. The caesar salad I really liked the sauce and the creaminess however. The lettuce was warm and I would have preferred if it had been chilled. My wife ordered a rueben with Mac n cheese soup. The bread and sandwich overall looked very tasty incomparisson to mine. WD Deli has been in my regular rotation for many years. Lately the quality has completely fallen off. The tomato soup tastes like water with tomato flavor. A turkey and cheese on croissant was snack sized. Paid extra for avocado that was nowhere to be found. When it starts coming to the point where I can make much better at home I have to pass. This is by far one of my favorite sandwich shops in San Antonio, located in the downtown area this restaurant is definitely the place to go for a sandwich and soup combo. This shop looks to be a former home - as you enter the building it appears to have been a 2 story home that was converted to sandwich shop. My favorite sandwich here is the chipotle Parmesan chicken sandwich, so delicious - pair it with a soup or salad and you are golden. Their soups are are also pretty delicious.
