This was my first time trying mazemen and I was not disappointed! The noodles were soft and bouncy, and the dish came out warm (not too hot). The minced pork is nicely seasoned, the chives were just the right amount, and the yolk kept the dish saucy! The restaurant is not too crowded around 7PM on a weekday, so it was nice to eat in a calmer environment. Overall, the service was good; they come around frequently to refill water. For $15.50, it was a bit pricey, but I would order it again since it was a good quality eat! read more

I was excited to give Mogumogu a try as I had never had mazemen before. We came on a Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was full, but we were thankfully the first on the waiting list so quickly got a table within 5 minutes as one of the tables was finishing up. Everything sounded good, but ultimately decided on the "Deluxe Mazemen" ($17.50) along with the "Mogu Chicken" ($8) and "Gyoza" ($6) for appetizers. The food came out relatively quickly and I was excited to dig in. The Gyozas were small and nothing special, but I did enjoy the Mogu Chicken which was tender and flavorful with the sauce. As for the Deluxe Mazemen, I think it looked better than it actually tasted, but was still good nonetheless. The freshly made noodles were delicious and had a great chewy texture which I really enjoyed but the sauce was a bit more subtle and not as bold as I was hoping for given that the dish looked super flavorful. So I gave my son the choice on where to go for his birthday and he chose Mogu Mogu. Now, I have been to the Costa Mesa Location, but this would be our first time here in Fullerton. Already with first impressions, I'm liking this location much better. First, we don't have to get on the 405 to get there and if you know, you know. Second, it seems to be larger so the wait times are not at all like Costa Mesa. Third, the staff were friendly, helpful and didn't make you feel rushed. As for the food, both places are equal to me. The first time I had Mazemen I thought it was delicious. This second time did not disappoint. The first time I had the deluxe. This time I had the curry. It was very good, but it had a kick to it. The curry flavor was mild and not overpowering. The noodles were perfect. It was aldente to perfection. The star to the dish was the poached egg. It's not on the menu, but I think next time I'll order an extra poached egg for the extra creaminess. As for our appetizer's we had the Mogu chicken which is like a karaage but with a sauce, the Kurobuta sausage and the Takoyaki's. The sausages were like the little smoky sausages and takoyaki, we tried it the LA style and it was delicious. Nice and crispy and hot. Be careful as to not burn your mouth like I did. I really like the Costa Mesa location so I wanted to take my husband to Mogu Mogu for the first time since he likes brothless noodles, and this location was closest to our house. I felt so bad because it was not a great experience. PROS: Tons of parking, clean, modern design, nice servers, food was good. Mogu Chicken was probably the juiciest chicken karaage I've had (but could do with a bit less sauce that it comes covered in). CONS: They messed up our orders -- We ordered the Mogu Chicken, Deluxe Mazemen, and the Tokyo Mazemen, both with no scallions/onions. - They gave us a mountain of onions when we asked for no onions and there was proof of this on the receipt. - I had expressed to the servers that we asked for no scallions, but after my husband said it's fine, we decided to stick with it. - The Tokyo mazemen doesn't come with chashu, but my husband got chashu in his. This didn't bother us too much because it worked out in our favor, but this was another thing they got wrong. - We realized after we spent 15-20 min picking out the scallions & onions that they may have switched our order with a couple that was there before us. We saw the girl going up to ask where their food is and we were wondering why we got our food before they did. - We had both checked in on Yelp for the free chili garlic oil but they never brought it out for us until we reminded them. We asked the only server we saw if it's coming out or if it was already mixed in with our food, and he proceeded to ask if we checked in on Yelp. Our original server forgot and there was no communication between the staff. - The servers never checked in on us to ask if there was anything else we needed so we had to keep asking for stuff (e.g. more water), even though there was a server right next to us standing there looking towards the customers. I love mogumogu. Mazemen is something I crave for at least once a month. The mixture of sauce, qq noodles, toppings and chili sauce with a soft boiled egg is just perfect. And at the end they will give you a perfectly scooped ball of rice that will suck up the rest of the sauce. If you want to get the full experience I recommend the Deluxe. Whenn I dont want to spend that much on the Deluxe I do the Tokyo. This location is slightly bigger than their other and I've never really had to wait in a long line. The plus is they open pretty late so I always come here for a late bite and no line needed. Wait staff is always nice and will explain to you the process if you havent had mazemen before. I've been wanting to try Mogumogu for about a year now ever since my childhood friend kept raving about it. I finally tried it and am literally kicking myself for not trying it sooner! The location is a bit hidden, but conveniently located between the 57 and 91 freeway right on State College (close to Chapman Ave)! I had never tried mazemen before and was pretty skeptical about the concept of "dry ramen" but it honestly blew me away! I was not expecting the level of depth and umami flavor in every bite. The noodles are thicker than the kind you'd find in standard ramen, but they're incredibly chewy and unique. If you're a fan of mochi like me, you will definitely love this! To my family's delight, they also serve traditional ramen in broth. I had pretty low expectations considering this place is best known for mazemen, but was pleasantly surprised by how delicious their ramen was! We ordered both the tonkatsu and miso (non spicy) - and were literally fighting over every last drop because it was sooo good! The broth was hearty but not overly rich and the noodles were just the right width, texture and consistency. I actually think the ramen is completely underrated considering I've been dining in this area for decades and this is easily one of the best ramens I've had in North OC! We were feeling extremely hungry after looking at Christmas lights, so we also ordered a bunch of appetizers, which were all pretty good. The agedashi takoyaki was good, but I still prefer tofu instead. The gyoza and Mogu chicken were both great, but probably better suited for adult tastebuds. The fries were a huge hit, as they season them with salt and seaweed, which takes them to a whole new level! A bit on the saltier side if anything, but it was rich and savory with the noodles being al dente. The sauce was flavorful, and halfway through, after adding the housemade vinegar, I was able to continue to enjoy the noodles happily. Portion size is reasonable. They give you a small scoop of rice at the end so you can fully enjoy all of the sauce. Service: The manager was extremely friendly and very attentive for our table. 1. Ambiance and Environment MoguMogu is a small restaurant with great interior lighting. It also had aesthetic wall art at the entrance hallway, which was definitely pleasing to see. The dining area was nice and cozy, but the tables and chairs were sat too closely for my liking. It's a little hard to avoid this though since as a small business, having more seating available for means better revenue so this is something to keep in mind if you find the seating to be a little crowded. They played EDM techno music, which is definitely my jam, but it's typically not the music you'd expect when eating ramen. Personally, I found this to be a nice welcome change however. 2. Food and Drinks I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and it came relatively quickly. However, I found myself a bit disappointed due to a couple of things. The soft-boiled/marinated egg that the ramen came with was flavorful, but it was cold. I'm guessing that it was maybe cooked ahead of time and then refrigerated to preserve the jamminess, but it was definitely not something you'd expect biting into a jammy egg. Additionally, the pork chashu that topped the tonkotsu ramen was cold and not warm at all. The broth also wasn't hot; it was somewhere between warm and lukewarm. It also tasted a bit watered down. Things could definitely be improved in regards to the aforementioned. 3. Service Our server was nice and friendly! He kept a casual yet professional tone when chatting with us, which we found to be really pleasant. 4. Pricing For the Tonkotsu Ramen that I ordered, I found it to be more expensive than other ones I've had at other places. This was primarily due to how the serving size here at MoguMogu was smaller compared to other tonkotsu ramens I've had at a similar price point. 5. Restroom I didn't use the restroom at this time! 6. Parking It was easy finding parking here despite the lot being shared by other establishments. It might be a little hard to navigate to the parking lot and the place itself, however, since the entrance to the lot is facing another side of the building where MoguMogu was. read more

Hidden away in Fullerton in an unsuspecting spot that has my new favorite ramen. Special instructions on how to eat the dry ramen: 1) thoroughly mix it - note the perfectly soft boiled egg yolk mixes into the sauce splendidly 2) taste the noodles as is before adding the house umami vinegar (provided at each table) 3) towards the end of your bowl, they bring out a small scoop of rice to mix in the remaining yummy goodness SO good... 10/10 would recommend. Even on this freezing night (rare SoCal storm, like an actual one and not the fake ones that we normally experience in SoCal lol) I opted out of the warm broth ramen and have no regret! In fact, as I was leaving, I was already thinking about my next visit. The manager was very nice and helpful with his instructions on how to eat the dry ramen. The server was also super nice. The place is located in a huuuuge parking lot in a somewhat deserted plaza. Buuuut, it has very welcoming and attentive staffs, and very yummy food. Our party all ordered the Deluxe Mazemen, and sharing the Agedashi takoyaki. First time I was having takoyaki like this, crispy shell, creamy melt-in-your-mouth center, while the whole thing soaks up the umami dashi mmmmm yummy Deluxe Mazemen is so flavorful and just a tiny bit spicy for kick. Noodle's texture is perfect, chewy and fresh. The 2 eggs - onsen tamago & ramen egg - are beyond perfect. Onsen tamago with runny yolk becomes a part of the sauce. The ramen egg with jammy yolk is love. Ahhh everything about this bowl is on point. Half way through, I added the grinded sesame seeds and vinegar, and wow, the taste profile changed for the better. This is an update to my earlier 5-star review. I've been coming here since they opened, and their Costa Mesa location before that. The food here is still absolutely delicious! I'm unfortunately taking away one star, because I worry they may be getting a bit sloppy at least with takeout orders, as my last couple orders had mistakes and things missing (photos attached): * I got the deluxe mazemen (not cheap) and they forgot the flavored (tea) egg and the nori(seaweed) * there is no option to add sesame seeds for delivery orders, so you have to make a special request for them, even though they should be included on the side like vinegar and rice is. * I called in my next order, so I could ask that they just add a tea egg to my regular Tokyo mazemen, free of charge, which they agreed to, and ensured me that it wouldn't happen again. Turns out, they charged me for another entire deluxe mazemen, along with the one that I ordered, and forgot the oi-meshi(rice) for both. I'm assuming what happens is that they forget the little things that make mazemen mazemen, because they're moving quickly, and I think the miscommunication I had over the phone was due to the loud music playing in the restaurant, since it seemed like the server could barely hear me, and I had trouble hearing her as well. Food: - Deluxe Mazeman, Gyoza, Tonkatsu Ramen MoguMogu came highly recommended to me, and it did not disappoint, but... it's not for me. The noodles were chewy, the flavors were complex, and overall its a fun experience changing up the flavors and eating the rice at the end. What is not for me is the "fish umami" that gives a fish flavored overtone, that is not my favorite. Mazeman is fun experience where there is no broth for your noodles, but there are many ingredients that when stacked together look beautiful, but when mashed together and mixed well you get a unique flavor profile that is like something you've never had before. When you are about half way done, they say you should add vinegar to your bowl to change up the flavors, I don't think I added enough, but you can taste the difference almost instantly after mixing it all up again. Finally, when all the noodles are finished you add a small scoop of rice into the bowl and to soak up all the left over sauce/meat and finish your bowl. The gyozas were crispy, and tasted good. I do recommend them if you are looking for a quick appetizer. The ramen is a solid pass though, it kind of tasted watered down. Restaurant; Inside there about 10-15 tables, and there is plenty of parking outside. I was surprised that they chose this location for their restaurant as it is really hard to find it if you don't have prior knowledge of this area. Notes: Would I come back? You took a wrong turn and it turns out you're in an Industrial section of Fullerton where you're either there to dump a body or treat your body to some brothless (Mazamen) Ramen. Mogumogu has food for Grogu and you. Oodles of noodles are sinking in the sauce and winking at the boss. Walk in to the little spotless surgical suite shoe box of a resto and settle in to the table your Server nodded at without moving anything but her forehead. Make a nest and whip your iPhone up to the QR Code to scan the menu. Good luck. Mostly when I do that I get a web site offering to enlarge or reduce something I'd just as soon leave as is. (I'm talking about bowls of Ramen. What were you thinking?) Mercifully, a nice Server took pity and came to the table bearing a rare antique. A paper menu. "Bless you" I said. She took two quick steps backwards, did a button hook, and rapidly returned to the table to ask if I was ready to order? It's like the Servers all worked in a boiler room making cold calls in a last life. You know, where they have 8 seconds to make a sale or face no sale and an evaporated commission. Maybe have a drink now. The Bar: The Bar features two Beers. Ichiko 6 is a Fermented Barley drink flirting with being a Beer and then there is a Suzanne which was a milder Fermented Barley drink. The Young and the Soupless plus those of us who drove by and knew Mazemen was, in fact, Dry Ramen with no Broth. As it turned out this Dry Ramen with no Broth was pretty damn good. Nicely done noods and extra add-ins that worked well and rounded out the dish. At 5:00 o'clock the Staff is limbering up for the 6:00 o'clock regulars for dinner. It's like Tokyo Central Station at rush hour. So, perhaps review the menu on line and come in as prepared as Trump's lawyer. Which means you have a vague idea. Okay, I came for the noods. I ordered The Curry noods for two dudes. There was spicy minced Pork in the bowl along with one little Pork flap lurking at the bowl bottom. There was a poached Egg with a lovely sunny runny Yolk as Orange as Trump's face after 20 minutes in the tanning booth. Be advised that every thing you order will show up within seconds, screamin' hot, and ready to dunk, dip, slurp and burp. The Curry Noodles also had Nori shreds, Scallions slivers, Minced Garlic, Fish Powder (hmmm...was that really necessary?) and Kale. (Read Cow Cud. Sorry, not sorry), all topped with a gooey blanket of mysterious cheese which I am gonna guess was Jack because it melts quickly in the Salamander. The whole soulful bowl full had a ladle or two of Curry/Fishy/Garlicy Sauce at the bottom to mix and fix the balance of every forthcoming chop stick grab. I had a hunch this could improve with some crunch so I asked for Karaage. (J-Chick as opposed to a J-date which is more likely to be crusty). There must have been a breakdown in communication as my Fried Chicken was buried under a broken levy of cloyingly sweet Garlic Chili Sauce eradicating any semblance of crispy which separates Karaage from sleepy Super Market Chicken long a languishing until its bendable and recommendable. Karaage requires a raggedy ass crunchy krinkle with every bite. Sauce on the side, sauce on the table, sauce on the floor, sauce on the child at the next table, but not on my Karaage, please. In all fairness I think the Server simply misheard me ask for Mogumogu Chicken which does come sauced to the bowl rim. I'll just have to return and try again. Onegaishimasu! I tried the Ikageso. (Fried Squid Legs read the menu). Tentacles said I. At least the kitchen didn't confuse squid's tentacles with kid's testicles. Was it tasty? I guess so. No matter. Out came a plate of Squid Waists attached to 6 arms. Yes, a Squid has arms not legs. (6 arms and 2 Tentacles to be accurate). But, who cares about the details, as this plate provided the desired CRUNCH factor. The crackle came with a cuppa Kewpie (J-Mayo) because of course at Mogumogu nothing goes to waists. The Kimchee was an interloper and while it was decent it was merely Kimchee from a jar from a Market. But if your Mum told you to eat your vegetables, this would allow you to tick that box and also take one for the team. I happen to like Kimchee, even store bought Kimchee, although it did seem a bit out of place at this place. So, overall, is Mogumogu worth a second try? For a place that's somewhat hidden, this place was pretty busy the whole time I was here with my family. Unless you are specifically looking for it, you won't see it from just driving by the area. Based on Yelp search, looks like this is one of three locations, with this being the newest. I never had this style of ramen before so it was an interesting experience. It's a soup-less ramen, similar to dip ramen, but the sauce is already in the bowl and you have to mix everything really well before eating it. There's a 3 step process to eating this style of ramen, which is posted on the wall of the restaurant. After mixing everything for about 30 seconds, you eat about half way through, then add some of its homemade umami vinegar to change the flavor profile. At the end they bring out a small scoop of rice for you to soak up any remaining sauce in the bowl. Kyoto Ramen, which is one of few non spicy items, was really good. It came with diced chashu, poached egg, scallion, kale, seaweed flakes, minced garlic, and fish powder. The noodles were thick and chewy, just the way I like. There was a yelp check-in offer for free chili oil, so I added some to the bowl to elevate the flavor, even though it was fine the way it was. Adding the vinegar half way through helped break up the monotony, but didn't think it was necessary. Even though soup-less ramen is the specialty, this place does offer soup based ramen as well. My wife ordered its tonkotsu ramen, which was lighter than traditional, but still very flavorful. These days, we actually prefer this style of ramen. This came with sliced chashu, scallion, mushroom, soft boiled egg, and seaweed. Parking was not an issue as most other business spaces were still vacant or closed for Sunday. read more

The kyoto or tokyo are probably the go-to's for a lot of people. I went rogue today and got the veggie mazemen. It's good. A little too much kale for me and it makes rough texture when chewing, but it's all good. My tip: make sure to eat the lotus root chips upon mixing, cuz they get soggy when you mix it with the sauce. I got the extra egg. It's soft boiled and probably soy marinated from the color. It's just adds an extra creamy umph, worth the extra 2 bucks. If you've never had mazemen before, the staff will explain to you how to eat it, so no fret. Make sure to mix the rice with the sauce at the end, that's the best part! We also got the takowasa. It is raw octopus with some wasabi sauce. Perfectly seasoned and hits you in the nose in a good way. Good and chewy if you like textural food. read more

FIRST IMPRESSION Location-wise, it was pretty easy to find! You can't miss it and there's parking everywhere so no need to worry about finding a spot you'd like! Note: we did go on a Sunday and it could be different on another day! The servers were extremely polite and helpful. They gave us the seats that we wanted and answered any questions we had! Not to mention, I'm going to say that it was the head chef? maybe head server? gave us instructions on how to eat the soupless ramen. Mix, mix and mix! It will enhance the flavors! And half way through they will provide you a small bowl of rice to mix in your Mazemen! It's quite delicious if I do say so myself! FOOD Looks and tastes delicious! I had the Curry Mazemen($16.00 at the time) which was bursting with flavor! It was a very interesting experience nevertheless! Just a reminder to mix as much as you can to get the full effect but of course take some pictures before you do! We also had the 5 piece gyoza which tasted excellent...and the sauce that came with it....words can't explain on how delicious each dip was! It's a Homemade sesame miso dipping sauce. Sent me to another dimension on each bite! OVERALL A definite hidden gem. Didn't expect to find this place in it's location. I feel it's underrated, especially the entire concept of this creation. What's great is that they also server ramen so you have choices! This place keeps popping up in my searches, so I thought I'd give it a try. I ordered to go. When I went in to pick it up, the girl behind the counter saw me, did not greet or ask me what I needed, and just went back to doing her thing. It took her a while to finally ask for my name and say she'll be with me in a minute. Then she went back to making me wait. I had to flag down another staff person. The kicker is my order was right there on the counter and she knew it was mine because she saw it. All she had to do was simply hand it to me and take my payment so I can go. The squid legs were decent but the portion is tiny. Kind of a ripoff honestly. The Mogu chicken is not as good as they make it sound. Location is also hard to find. Both Google and Apple Maps took me all the way to the back of the commercial buildings. Had to navigate around on my own. Overall I'm disappointed. I've had better food and service. read more

Food: I always come here for mazemen and ramen. Deluxe (specialty) comes with an extra soy egg($18). The spicy chili oil is perfectly paired with the ramen. There is chives, fresh garlic, and green onions. Service: We came in around 2PM and were seated right away. Food came out pretty fast and tasted phenomenal. Kristin helped us out today and she was very friendly and helpful. Ambiance: This is the new location and it tastes just as good as the OG location in Costa Mesa. Wadaya is tucked inconspicuously away in a half-deserted strip mall in the middle of a gritty industrial park along State College Blvd in Fullerton. Being nearly invisible from the street gives it the mysterious air of an underground supper club, known only to a selective clientele through word-of-mouth. I had their mazemen, a broth-less noodle dish coated in an umami-packed sauce, with rich toppings, including nori flakes. The attentive waiter instructed me how to eat it: to mix the ingredients into the sauce and a soft-cooked egg that acts as a binding agent. When eaten, the mazemen imparts a concentrated, savory flavor. The waiter gave me a small scoop of white rice as I was finishing the mazemen, so I can sop up the remaining rich sauce. I love it! We also ordered the California Tonkatsu Ramen, and it too is delicious! The mazemen is clearly the star of the show. We rounded out our dinner with the crispy Karaage and flash-fried shishito peppers. What a delightful dining experience! We can't wait to try the other dishes in their menu! You get a lot of food for the price. I got the Tokyo maze men and it was a huge bowl of food. And not only that they give you rice at the end to soak up the rest of the sauces. The food came within minutes. I really enjoyed my meal. It felt like you were having three meals in one because of each different phase. The first phase is the noodles by itself with the sauces and toppings. The second phase is with the vinegar which is really good and has a lot of umami flavor. Finally there's the rice part where you use it to soak up any leftover sauce. The restaurant is also very clean and spacious too. read more
