MoguMogu hits the spot, every time! Now that the summer is here with the higher temperatures, I like to forgoe soup ramen and go for ramen without the broth: and there you have mazemen. I typically go to the Costa Mesa location, but this location has its perks in that it is bigger and it also has a lot more parking. I think the presentation also is a little better than the Costa Mesa location, but the taste is pretty much on par. I recommend the Tokyo mazemen: the spice really brings all the flavors to the next level without being overpowering: I do think the egg mellows out the spice a lot, and if you add the vinegar to it brings in more flavor profile to it. Don't forget to ask for the rice (if you have room for it) at the end, it really hits the spot when it soaks up all the sauce! read more

Bowl could have done with more sauce to mix in with the rice better, but the flavoring and tenderness of chicken was excellent. Ramen was FANTASTIC. Tried mazeman (brothless ramen) for the first time and it was good! They also gave a small scoop of rice at the end to eat with any leftover sauce. I ordered the Tokyo mazeman and it was definitely more on the spicy side. I added a little bit of vinegar to it and it added great flavor. My favorite was actually the Mogu chicken, which was their take on karaage. There's also a spicy mayo on the side for you to dip it in! The staff was attentive and always checked on us to make sure we didn't need any more water, napkins, etc. The restaurant is a decent size and located in a plaza with plenty of parking. Came right at opening on a weekend, and we were seated right away! There's a decent amount of parking in the lot, but it can get crowded if there is an event happening at the event center that shares the same lot. We were at a table in the corner right where the speaker was, so the music was pretty loud. We switched to a table on the other side of the restaurant, and it was much better! Just a tip for those who might want a table a little quieter. They offer six different types of mazemens, a soupless noodle dish. They also have a few rice bowls and regular ramen, but I'd definitely recommend the mazemen since that's what they're known for! I got the Deluxe Mazemen with sliced pork chashu, spicy minced pork, poached egg, scallions, chives, minced garlic, fish umami, seaweed flakes, seaweed, and a soft boiled egg. It really comes with a bit of everything! Not too spicy despite having the chili pepper icon--according to the menu, it's a medium spicy level. Since we also wanted a non-spicy mazemen in case the spicy one was too much, we got the only one on the menu that's considered non-spicy, the Kyoto Mazemen. This dish has soy marinated diced chashu, kale, poached egg, scallions, minced garlic, fish umami, and seaweed flakes. Both were good, but I enjoyed the flavor of the Deluxe Mazemen more! For all of their mazemens, make sure to mix them upon receiving your bowl. They actually recommend mixing well for 30 seconds! The encourage you to try the dish as is first, and then add their homemade umami vinegar for a different taste. I personally really enjoyed it with the vinegar! The acidity really balances out the richness of the dish. I've tried the Bay Area location, and wasn't a big fan of the mazemen there, so I was a bit apprehensive when my friend suggested the So Cal location. My friends and I thought the mazemen here was a lot better than their Bay Area location! It makes me want to go try the Bay Area location again. I got the deluxe, and the noodles were perfectly chewy. The portion is pretty filling. The whole dish is very flavorful, and the egg yolk makes everything nicely creamy. The vinegar helps break up the richness. I asked for my chili on the side, but ended up adding the entire amount; the chili packs a nice punch and hits the spot as a spice lover. They give you a scoop of rice for the end of your meal to add to the leftover sauce, which is unique compared to other mazemen restaurants. I asked for a side of their chili oil to add in my noodles (if you check in, you can get it complimentary). I was excited to give Mogumogu a try as I had never had mazemen before. We came on a Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was full, but we were thankfully the first on the waiting list so quickly got a table within 5 minutes as one of the tables was finishing up. Everything sounded good, but ultimately decided on the "Deluxe Mazemen" ($17.50) along with the "Mogu Chicken" ($8) and "Gyoza" ($6) for appetizers. The food came out relatively quickly and I was excited to dig in. The Gyozas were small and nothing special, but I did enjoy the Mogu Chicken which was tender and flavorful with the sauce. As for the Deluxe Mazemen, I think it looked better than it actually tasted, but was still good nonetheless. The freshly made noodles were delicious and had a great chewy texture which I really enjoyed but the sauce was a bit more subtle and not as bold as I was hoping for given that the dish looked super flavorful. Service was attentive and overall, I enjoyed the food, but would probably want to try a different mazemen next time. The spiciness is hand-able for a non-spicy eater like me. Usually I would get less garlic because it can be pretty overwhelming. Their mogu mogu chicken ALWAYS FIRE. I decided to try out Mogu Mogu because I don't typically enjoy ramen, but I do have a taste for dry noodles. I ordered the Tokyo mazemen, as pictured. This was my first time trying mazemen and I was not disappointed! The noodles were soft and bouncy, and the dish came out warm (not too hot). The minced pork is nicely seasoned, the chives were just the right amount, and the yolk kept the dish saucy! The restaurant is not too crowded around 7PM on a weekday, so it was nice to eat in a calmer environment. Overall, the service was good; they come around frequently to refill water. So I gave my son the choice on where to go for his birthday and he chose Mogu Mogu. Now, I have been to the Costa Mesa Location, but this would be our first time here in Fullerton. Already with first impressions, I'm liking this location much better. First, we don't have to get on the 405 to get there and if you know, you know. Second, it seems to be larger so the wait times are not at all like Costa Mesa. Third, the staff were friendly, helpful and didn't make you feel rushed. As for the food, both places are equal to me. The first time I had Mazemen I thought it was delicious. This second time did not disappoint. The first time I had the deluxe. This time I had the curry. It was very good, but it had a kick to it. The curry flavor was mild and not overpowering. The noodles were perfect. It was aldente to perfection. The star to the dish was the poached egg. It's not on the menu, but I think next time I'll order an extra poached egg for the extra creaminess. As for our appetizer's we had the Mogu chicken which is like a karaage but with a sauce, the Kurobuta sausage and the Takoyaki's. The sausages were like the little smoky sausages and takoyaki, we tried it the LA style and it was delicious. Nice and crispy and hot. Be careful as to not burn your mouth like I did. I've been wanting to try Mogumogu for about a year now ever since my childhood friend kept raving about it. I finally tried it and am literally kicking myself for not trying it sooner! The location is a bit hidden, but conveniently located between the 57 and 91 freeway right on State College (close to Chapman Ave)! I had never tried mazemen before and was pretty skeptical about the concept of "dry ramen" but it honestly blew me away! I was not expecting the level of depth and umami flavor in every bite. The noodles are thicker than the kind you'd find in standard ramen, but they're incredibly chewy and unique. If you're a fan of mochi like me, you will definitely love this! To my family's delight, they also serve traditional ramen in broth. I had pretty low expectations considering this place is best known for mazemen, but was pleasantly surprised by how delicious their ramen was! We ordered both the tonkatsu and miso (non spicy) - and were literally fighting over every last drop because it was sooo good! The broth was hearty but not overly rich and the noodles were just the right width, texture and consistency. I actually think the ramen is completely underrated considering I've been dining in this area for decades and this is easily one of the best ramens I've had in North OC! We were feeling extremely hungry after looking at Christmas lights, so we also ordered a bunch of appetizers, which were all pretty good. The agedashi takoyaki was good, but I still prefer tofu instead. The gyoza and Mogu chicken were both great, but probably better suited for adult tastebuds. The fries were a huge hit, as they season them with salt and seaweed, which takes them to a whole new level! Mogu Mogu is such a college-student staple if you go to CSUF and live near or on campus! As a person who doesn't really enjoy regular broth ramen, this was a great alternative for me. I was really amazed with this place the first time I went as the food was really good. The gyoza and takoyaki are both have to try's! As for me, I have tried so many different mazemen and I have enjoyed all of them! Personally however, I don't like how greasy they are. But that is the only critique I have for the dishes. The sauce is super flavorful and the chili oil here pairs so well along with the kelp vinegar and sesame seeds. The servers are nice and fast with the help. I feel like most of the times I have visited it has been a bit empty so the restaurant can feel a bit isolated at times. However, usually during dinner it gets pretty busy and the establishment definitely feels more lively. I'm not a fan of the yellow overhead lighting though. read more

Hidden away in Fullerton in an unsuspecting spot that has my new favorite ramen. Special instructions on how to eat the dry ramen: 1) thoroughly mix it - note the perfectly soft boiled egg yolk mixes into the sauce splendidly 2) taste the noodles as is before adding the house umami vinegar (provided at each table) 3) towards the end of your bowl, they bring out a small scoop of rice to mix in the remaining yummy goodness SO good... 10/10 would recommend. Even on this freezing night (rare SoCal storm, like an actual one and not the fake ones that we normally experience in SoCal lol) I opted out of the warm broth ramen and have no regret! I really like the Costa Mesa location so I wanted to take my husband to Mogu Mogu for the first time since he likes brothless noodles, and this location was closest to our house. I felt so bad because it was not a great experience. PROS: Tons of parking, clean, modern design, nice servers, food was good. Mogu Chicken was probably the juiciest chicken karaage I've had (but could do with a bit less sauce that it comes covered in). CONS: They messed up our orders -- We ordered the Mogu Chicken, Deluxe Mazemen, and the Tokyo Mazemen, both with no scallions/onions. - They gave us a mountain of onions when we asked for no onions and there was proof of this on the receipt. - I had expressed to the servers that we asked for no scallions, but after my husband said it's fine, we decided to stick with it. - The Tokyo mazemen doesn't come with chashu, but my husband got chashu in his. This didn't bother us too much because it worked out in our favor, but this was another thing they got wrong. - We realized after we spent 15-20 min picking out the scallions & onions that they may have switched our order with a couple that was there before us. We saw the girl going up to ask where their food is and we were wondering why we got our food before they did. - We had both checked in on Yelp for the free chili garlic oil but they never brought it out for us until we reminded them. We asked the only server we saw if it's coming out or if it was already mixed in with our food, and he proceeded to ask if we checked in on Yelp. Our original server forgot and there was no communication between the staff. - The servers never checked in on us to ask if there was anything else we needed so we had to keep asking for stuff (e.g. more water), even though there was a server right next to us standing there looking towards the customers. This is an update to my earlier 5-star review. I've been coming here since they opened, and their Costa Mesa location before that. The food here is still absolutely delicious! I'm unfortunately taking away one star, because I worry they may be getting a bit sloppy at least with takeout orders, as my last couple orders had mistakes and things missing (photos attached): * I got the deluxe mazemen (not cheap) and they forgot the flavored (tea) egg and the nori(seaweed) * there is no option to add sesame seeds for delivery orders, so you have to make a special request for them, even though they should be included on the side like vinegar and rice is. * I called in my next order, so I could ask that they just add a tea egg to my regular Tokyo mazemen, free of charge, which they agreed to, and ensured me that it wouldn't happen again. Turns out, they charged me for another entire deluxe mazemen, along with the one that I ordered, and forgot the oi-meshi(rice) for both. I'm assuming what happens is that they forget the little things that make mazemen mazemen, because they're moving quickly, and I think the miscommunication I had over the phone was due to the loud music playing in the restaurant, since it seemed like the server could barely hear me, and I had trouble hearing her as well. Very good food and nice staff, just need to work on consistency with delivery and takeout orders. The moral of the story is: 1. First, let me preface and say I'm not the biggest ramen expert, and it was my first time trying dry ramen. It was alright. The noodles were adequate, the ingredients seemed fresh enough, yet the meat was slightly overcooked. Food: - Deluxe Mazeman, Gyoza, Tonkatsu Ramen MoguMogu came highly recommended to me, and it did not disappoint, but... it's not for me. The noodles were chewy, the flavors were complex, and overall its a fun experience changing up the flavors and eating the rice at the end. What is not for me is the "fish umami" that gives a fish flavored overtone, that is not my favorite. Mazeman is fun experience where there is no broth for your noodles, but there are many ingredients that when stacked together look beautiful, but when mashed together and mixed well you get a unique flavor profile that is like something you've never had before. When you are about half way done, they say you should add vinegar to your bowl to change up the flavors, I don't think I added enough, but you can taste the difference almost instantly after mixing it all up again. Finally, when all the noodles are finished you add a small scoop of rice into the bowl and to soak up all the left over sauce/meat and finish your bowl. The gyozas were crispy, and tasted good. I do recommend them if you are looking for a quick appetizer. The ramen is a solid pass though, it kind of tasted watered down. Restaurant; Inside there about 10-15 tables, and there is plenty of parking outside. I was surprised that they chose this location for their restaurant as it is really hard to find it if you don't have prior knowledge of this area. Notes: Would I come back? I love mogumogu. Mazemen is something I crave for at least once a month. The mixture of sauce, qq noodles, toppings and chili sauce with a soft boiled egg is just perfect. And at the end they will give you a perfectly scooped ball of rice that will suck up the rest of the sauce. If you want to get the full experience I recommend the Deluxe. Whenn I dont want to spend that much on the Deluxe I do the Tokyo. This location is slightly bigger than their other and I've never really had to wait in a long line. So yummy! I love coming here for mazemen, which is a brothless noodle dish. I usually get the Kyoto mazemen, and I love the experience of mixing everything and having all the different flavors come together. Service is awesome! read more
