My husband really likes the deep fried/crispy taro from here and the siu mai gets a stamp of approval from my picky 4 year old. My mom also said the rice noodle rolls were well made. The value here is that the food comes from kitchen to your table very fast. So it's super fresh and hot. We order the usual suspects of a typical dim sum breakfast. For a fast dim sum fix without waiting for a table, this is the place to pick up some of your favorite dim sums including, sesame balls, har gaw, Siu mai, egg rolls, glutinous rice in lotus leaf wraps and more. Most of them are under $5. The dim sums tend to be sold out early. They are still in soft opening mode. Maybe they have not worked out their work flows yet. I read on Yelp about the new dim sum in SGV so my sister and I drive here in the good fortune plaza on a Thanksgiving morning. The door was open at 8:30am and we filled out the menu. At 8:30, the cashier said limited dim sum is available. So we ordered few items: Sui mai and beef cheung fun. We paid in cash since we had less than $10 purchase and their credit card system had problems. They mostly spoke Cantonese and speak some English. We waited 10 minutes for our food was ready. Inside only 2 tables and some dim sum displayed at the window. Prices are $4.49 or $4.75 which reasonable. The beef cheung fun was smooth and melted in my mouth and Sui mai was big in size and good. Please note their hours are 8 am - 4 pm and I arrived around 4:45 pm but they were prepping for the next day and allowed me to purchase the left over dim sum items from that day. Items are about $5 a plate (3 items to a plate) and I tried the sesame balls with red bean paste, the steamed spare ribs (definitely coming back for this!) which comes with pieces of kaboucha squash, the shrimp egg roll, the deep fried pork dumpling, steamed big chicken bun, egg tart, baked bbq pork pastry (yum!) and the red bean mochi. I was given a few freebies as a first timer. The young man was so nice and personable in front. In interest of using less styrofoam, I was informed that one can bring your own containers if you prefer not to use the non-biodegradable styrofoam containers although it may be difficult for them to accommodate on a super busy weekend. I am happy they give this option as an environmentally conscious consumer. I was also asked if I wanted utensils to go (I love, love how they are keeping with the times and didn't just mindlessly throw some in to make me a happy customer. I am drowning in plastic utensils and wooden chopsticks that I don't need nor want to use when I can wash and reuse my nicer metal utensils at home). I didn't bug them for another since they were so busy. I have been here about 4 times already. I REALLY want to give this place 5 stars, but 2 of the 4 times I've been here, they have messed up my order. I've fill out the paper every single time but somehow half of the time I have items missing. This is a humble mom and pop shop and I respect businesses like this. They sometimes give me free steamed mantou buns to make up for the mistakes but I don't want those, I want the things I ordered and paid for. I don't speak Cantonese so it's hard for me to explain to most of the employees when they've mad a mistake, but seriously I wish they did better on the customer service aspect. Although I only ordered 5 items everything was very well prepared and fresh tasting. I ordered the normal siu mai, har gow, fried pork sticky dumplings, char siu bao and egg tarts. I never got the egg tarts. They must have read my orders sheet wrong. Instead I got the steamed egg custard bun, which were actually very good. You order and pay first, then they will call your number to pick up your food. I'm a pretty basic eater when it comes to dim sum. I love cheung fun, shiu mai, paai gwat (spare ribs), bolo bao, and nai wan bao (custard buns). This restaurant overtook the location Bahn Mi Che Cali was at. There might be a wait as some items, such as cheung fun, are made to order so it's super fresh. When eating there I wish they packed my items so I'm wasting less styrofoam. I feel bad throwing it out right after consuming the food inside. I would be happy if they shoved everything into one container or just gave them to me on a plate. If eating there let them know you are and they'll also give you tea which I thought was nice. You know it's a real when the lady up front yells orders to the back. Lol. Oh, there is a menu with pictures of each item on the counter in case you need a reference. Finally there is a pick up dim sum place with variety to remind me of home where there were a lot of these places with competitive pricing. It's all decent and price points are right for take out: har gow, shui mai, bean curd rolls, shrimp and leak dumplings, pan fried chives cakes, pork & veggie buns, bbq pork buns, egg yolk custard buns and rice cakes w red bean (which I haven't had in over 25 years)! My favs from here are the pan fried chive cake, bean curd roll, pork and veggie bun, and the rice cake w red bean. The skin of the shrimp & leak dumpling is a bit thick but at least it wasn't mushy nor fall apart. This place has replaced a Banh Mi Che Cali that was previously here, and while I miss it, this place is a great place to get your dim sum fix! They have all the classic har gow, siu mai, cheongfun with shrimp, spare ribs with black bean sauce, bolo custard buns, steamed chicken feet and a whole lot more. On top of this, there wasn't a single thing that was off (quality and size wise). One thing I did really love was the liu sha bao they had which was a bun with sweet egg custard inside. It was very comparable to one that I've had while I was in Hong Kong! The filling was extremely runny so be careful when eating it! In terms of straight dim sum, this place might just be my go to now! The way they have it set up is more of a fast food type environment. Mainly designed to get your order quick and get out to enjoy it at home. You have a small form to fill out for what you'd like, you pay, then you wait for your number to be called. My only gripe, which is not specific to just this place, is that the prices for each dish continues to go up year over year. It's an economical place, they offer a variety of dim sum. Most of the flavors are there and yet some items are a little bland. The lo bak gao was missing some filling on the inside (and I found a hair in one, hence the 3*'s, I don't know their food handling practices), the filling in the rice noodle rolls are a bit thin, and it feels like the lo mai gai was more rice than anything else. I visited this spot for the first time the morning of Lunar New Year Eve, which might have been my mistake, but I waited nearly 20 minutes for my food after placing my order. I only ordered 1 shiu mai, 1 spare rib, and 1 rice noodle with minced beef. While they tasted solid with today's typical dim sum prices, if I had known the wait would be this long, I honestly wouldn't have came. Comparing to all the take out dim sum spots I've been to all my life, they're always a quick in and out. As soon as you order, you'd normally get your food within the next minute, as they really just need to pack your food up. Not here! It was within 30 minutes of them opening, and they were still cooking their dim sum as people kept ordering unfortunately. As for the ordering process, as you walk in, there is a small stack of paper menus and a container of pencils (if you're lucky there might be at least 1 pencil in there). You simply write in the quantity in the 'quantity' box next to each item you want and wait in a disorganized line with people who are allowed to cut you apparently to give them the paper menu that you filled out. There's also only 4 tables with limited seating, so yeah, it's really more for take-out dim sum. read more
