Surprisingly good for BBQ this far out of the traditional BBQ belt. Pulled pork was a solid B+ and brisket a C+. Mac and cheese was another B. The cornbread was an interesting mix of "yankee fine ground yellow corn meal and wheat flour with cheese and green chillis" another B+. We will definitely be going back and some different choices. BTW I'm a tough reviewer with high standards. Grew up in Memphis and spent a lot of time in Texas. This place would pass muster in either one of those. read more

Wife and I came with friends for BBQ lunch. Love the ambience inside with all the art and funny decorations. We ordered Brisket sandwiches again with Mac n Cheese, which has bits of green chili's and Brisket. I also checked in online so we got a free soda or ice tea. There is TONS of meat so we just put it on plate and use the bun as bread. Brisket was wonderful, and the Mac n cheese was awesome. For dessert we shared an order of Peach Cobbler with whipped cream on top. It was scrumptiously great. Service was great and all the memorabilia on walls are funny as hell. Wow, really not sure how this place has good reviews. The ribs were dry and burnt, offered another slab and they were the same, the beef brisket didn't even look like beef, looked like corned beef, obviously using inferior cuts of meat. Server was apologetic of course. Scratch this dive off your list. read more

Horrible!! Yes, I've been told it's a "landmark" restaurant, but the food is very substandard. I had the sampler, my wife the Tennessee sampler. BOTH had mushy meat and SUPER dry ribs. The sides were cold. Service was SUPER SLOW. Go somewhere else. read more

Several years ago, I was introduced to waldos. The rub they put on the ribs was fantastic. This caused me to go there several times a season. The rub was so good you didn't need wet bbq sauce. Two years ago, they started using less rub. Last year they used still less rub. This year they used NO RUB. If you don't use the wet bbq sauce, the ribs taste like nothing. Don't get me wrong. I am not a BBQ person because everything is usually dry and over spiced. Food was hot, served in cast iron, NOT DRY OR OVERLY SPICED (we both had St. Louis ribs served "WET"). Small dessert menu, but both the bread pudding and peach cobbler were DELICIOUS! Friendly staff, lots of fun things on the wall, and a pretty varied menu for a BBQ place (there's even catfish!). I have no problem with the food. I'd suggest passing on all you can eat Catfish on Fridays special. I've ordered the all you can get Catfish three times over the course of three years. Each time they bring out the standard two piece normal meal which is very good but good luck on getting much more fish. They will bring out a single piece and disappear and not check back in to see how things are going. All three times I had to flag my server down and request more fish. Again all three times after a very extended amount of time I've had to ask if I was going to see my order anytime soon? So all you can eat means 4 pieces if you're lucky. There were 6 in our party and they all except me received their meals in a timely manner. Not sure if I will be back a fourth time, if I do I won't be ordering the all you can eat Catfish. read more

This was my second visit here. The first time was for carry out. This time, hubby & I decided to dine in. It took me a while to get back to write a review...but I wanted to share our experience. Our server, Colby, provided good service and great recommendations. Hubby ordered the chicken & ribs with Mac n Cheese and fries. I ordered chicken & ribs with a side salad and coleslaw. We also got an order of brisket (just to try being at a bbq restaurant, after all). I was impressed with everything (Except the complimentary piece of cornbread.) Hubby was fine with the cornbread. It was probably good I didn't like it because I've been staying away from carbs and I would've ate it up. Lol. I am VERY particular when I see coleslaw on a menu that's not KFC. However, I liked their coleslaw. It was delicious. That's huge coming from me. The portions are fairly large so we had take out and a 2nd meal. 11/02/2023 - Mom and I ordered and picked up the Super Sampler. We shared in the chicken, pork and beef for dinner. Mom loves their food and their sauce was tasty. I took the ribs to work the next day for my lunch. Put them in the microwave, sat down to eat, and when I pulled it apart it was a bloody mess filled with lots of fat. I was grossed out I just threw it in the trash. I will call the restaurant to see what they have to say. read more

The staff was great! Our waiter was exceptional! It was our first time and the waiter explain everything to us and gave us suggestions. The food was delicious. I had a half rack of baby ribs with their original sauce. The meat just fell off the bone. My hubby had the Sampler which he also loved! The setting is what you would think of for a great bbq place - lots of signs and decorations with things to make you laugh. Noise level was medium (also what you'd expect) with classic rock 60s-early 80s in the background. Service was friendly and fast and willing to do the little things like a small bowl of bbq sauce if you asked for some extra. The food was outstanding! Waldo's is a cute, rustic restaurant that boasts of barbecue and comfort food. The rough wooden decor and checkered tablecloths really give it that extra touch. The food isn't bad, but it also didn't wow me. Service was prompt and friendly, and there's a decent amount of parking outside. The famous mason jars were pretty cute, and these were huge mason jars! Definitely the biggest I've seen at a restaurant before. I thought it was neat how some sides were unlimited and others were just one serving; it makes it convenient to share and try different options. Cornbread: The jalapeño cornbread had a nice jalapeño flavor, and it comes served with a slice of butter on top. I did find the cornbread on the dry side, although the butter helped with that. I wish the cornbread had been heated up to help the butter melt more easily. Riblets with fried okra and spicy fries: The riblets are just a less messy version of the ribs, as the bones are removed so only the meat is left. The taste was decent, a tad dry. The fried okra was pretty good! It was seasoned well and fried so it was crispy on the outside but still tender on the inside. I was a bit let down by the spicy fries, as they seem to be a Yelp favorite. I felt they were under-seasoned and paled in comparison to the sweet potato fries. Sampler platter with pulled pork, pulled beef, brisket, and ribs: I think it's such a great idea to have a sampler that allows patrons to try a little bit of everything. I don't know why more restaurants don't have it, so I was excited to see that Waldo's does. Out of the four kinds of meat, the brisket was definitely my favorite. They offer either a fatty or lean brisket option, and I went with the fatty. It wasn't particularly fatty in my opinion, but it was juicy and had that nice smokiness I look for in briskets. The pulled pork and pulled beef were unfortunately both incredibly dry, and I had to dunk them in barbecue sauce to try and help that. The ribs were decent, but also on the dry side. Sweet potato fries and brisket macaroni and cheese: Two sides come with the sampler, so I opted for the non-bottomless sweet potato fries and macaroni and cheese. I thought that the sweet potato fries were really good; they were freshly fried, piping hot, crunchy on the outside, soft and sweet on the inside. The macaroni and cheese had a pretty good jalapeño flavor, although I didn't find any jalapeños inside. There were small chunks of brisket strewn throughout, but I couldn't really taste them because the jalapeño flavor was much stronger. The cheese was a bit runny, although it did impart a decently strong cheesy flavor (the color was also quite pale, but maybe they used white cheese). Overall Waldo's wasn't bad, but it didn't wow me either. I think I'm still searching for my favorite barbecue restaurant. read more
