Went back after a while away. The place hasn't changed. Food portions are really generous. Service was friendly and in several aspects some of the better Chinese food that I've had recently. The hot and sour soup had significant chunks of chicken which doesn't seem to be topical. I liked the level of heat without the excessive pepper that since places resort to. I ordered the orange chicken, "spicy". There were obvious pieces of orange peel which I don't remember from other places as well as green onion and sesame seeds. While it was tasty, it want that spicy. The wife went for one of her favorites, cashew chicken. She was surprised that there was more chicken and no celery. She was very pleased with the taste although she felt the sauce was a little heavy. We both brought enough home for a second meal and this is probably my favorite hot and sour soup place. I lived down the street from them from '04 until '14 and they were epic! I've since moved out of the area. A few months ago I had the pleasure of eating there again. It was awesome, like I had travelled back in time 10-15 years. I can't speak for every dish they make because for me it's chicken and vegetables every time. How this place is successful is beyond me. About every 5 years we give it another shot and are completely disappointed. When I saw that they were under new owners I tried again. Huge portions of inedible food. Mushy egg rolls. Dry bbq pork. The sweet and sour sauce tasted like furniture polish. The fried rice was just OK and the egg flour soup tasted like dirty dish water. Delicious prodigious Chinese food in Happy Valley? YES. Super clean restaurant. Very attentive and efficient service with a smile. Heavenly orange chicken with just the right balance of flavor. Dry sauteed string beans with copious amounts of garlic and slivered almonds. Largest portion sizes of any Chinese restaurant I've ever been to ... I grew up on Chinese food in both New York and Los Angeles and then in college in the Bay area. The flavor profiles are probably closer to Cantonese than Szechuan but what do I know? Wan Lung is a true gem! Now as others have quite rightly stated in their review try to ask them to simply make sure that they add more vinegar to the hot and sour soup or have some available table side That's the only thing that stood out that was questionable. The flavor was very good for the soup ..it just needed that extra tang. But that's a quibble... and not a deduction! Sometimes you don't feel like cooking and you just want to go sit down and have a great meal and have it in an efficient restaurant without any foofiness or preciousness. Sometimes you want to have leftovers the next day. This place nails it. I'm not kidding when I say two dishes can feed a family of four (unless you've got teenage boys in which case all bets are off). All I'm saying is you'll be taking home food for leftovers the next day and that's not a bad thing at all. But seriously great value great quality open kitchen concept and a joy in Happy Valley. My husband and I served their food at our wedding, because it is THAT good. The #5 combo (sub sesame chicken) is my favorite!Their chicken is crunchy and well sauced. Their noodles are soft and sooo flavorful! Their hot and sour soup is always juuuust spicy enough to need some tea, but not too spicy to enjoy. I also love both the BBQ pork and their egg rolls that are sooo crunchy! Lastly! I am consistently impressed with their speed and how great of a deal their food is! No flavor other than a sort-of kind-of chicken-ish like flavor. It is so bad I can't believe anyone would give it more than 1 star. But hey, don't believe the negative reviews. Try it for yourself. We love going to this place when we're in happy Valley. Recommend the combination plate it's enough for two or three people depending on how much you normally eat me and my husband sometimes cannot finish the one plate we order. I love the owner they are also helpful with any questions. I love ordering one plate and having leftover so I can make some thing else the next day. I also always order extra soy sauce because their soy sauce is so good I will don't remember who makes it but definitely recommend getting it. read more

I am incredibly pleased with my experience at WAN Lung! We walk in on a Tuesday evening, around 7pm, the place is not very busy, but we can tell it's just after the rush. We are seated at a large booth, and there are only two of us. My SO is gluten free and prefers chicken. I want to share food so we both pick a chicken dish that isn't breaded. I like General Tso chicken, but it's breaded. So I ask, if it can be made without breading, and the very polite server says yes, it's $1 more and would I like light or dark meat. I go with light and had no real idea what to expect. What I got was amazing, and huge! It was at least enough chicken for three full meals, add that to what my SO got and we are good for a while! I don't mind the extra dollar for a complete change to a meal, and without the breading I'm sure I'm getting more meat. The service was good, and at the end of the meal they packaged every bit of our leftovers for us! We will be back here many times! The food is good and they take care of you! read more
