Tried the Reuban for the first time. Brisket is fantastic, sauerkraut a bit weak but good, and overall quality good! Can't beat the fries! Best Reuban in the state is at the Elk Public House (DDD) in Spokane but this is a close second! read more

Warthog is as good as it gets for the South King County/Tacoma area. I travel there from downtown Tacoma on lunch break every once in a while and it's always worth the trip. If I had a complaint it'd be that I like when the meat is simmering somewhere along with the sauce and not served seperately. The meal I ordered you added your own. That said, with the BBQ sauce and especially the spicy sauce the food was top notch. This place gets pretty busy during lunch so if you are just going to pick up I would recommend ordering ahead. But there is a large extra dining area so you can be confident you'll have a table from 4-8 people and not have to wait. Stick with the pulled meat sandwiches instead of the ribs if you want to get something you know you'll like. Ribs are 50/50 read more

A very good barbecue restaurant that tends toward the Missouri and Midwest styles. This is fone, however the Brisket seems a bit off. Full disclosure: I was born and raised in Texas, so I am biased towards Texas BBQ Brisket. Warthog seem to have more of a pot roast quality then a true Brisket. It's still good, but just make sure that you are expecting it. I really enjoyed the turkey and sausage, with their Cole slaw being a definite stand out. The building is laid out nicely and I am a big fan of the decor. This is a slice of the South dropped firmly in the Pacific Northwest and I couldn't be happier. The outside patio is nice, but we were forced inside because some bees (non stinging) decided that the barbecue sauce would make some epic honey. I can't disagree, but was not interested in sharing. Warthogs in Fife was hubby's choice for his Birthday lunch yesterday.... and for a good reason, the BBQ was amazing! Arriving around noon, the young gals at the counter were helpful with what we should order, so we both ordered the moo, cluck and oink (brisket, chicken, pork ribs) for a variety, and all of the meat was super tender, and flavorful. The BBQ sauce was just right, not too tangy or overpowering where you can't taste your meat. The sides were yummy, cornbread soft, slaw was crisp, and the beans.. Yum! Everything was so good I felt guilty eating so much in one sitting and looking like I've never eaten a meal in my entire life...but it was worth pigging out on! read more

We arrived at 1:40 for lunch, not exactly peak lunch time. We waited 40 minutes for our meal...far too long for a meal that is primarily already cooked. I had the pulled pork tacos with fries. The fries were inedible. They were so grease soaked I couldn't actually pick one up without it falling apart. The tacos had a good flavor but were almost cold by the time they got to me. I am not a big fan of BBQ, but this place serves some of the juiciest, flavor packed brisket. The meat was so tender that you could slice through it with the same effort as slicing through a stick of butter. Plus, their cookies are huge! The smoke smell on the way into the restaurant was reassuring. However, the Brisket in the Sandwich wasn't smoked much. Normally there is a pink smoke ring around the edges of the meat... none was observed. I wondered if this might have been microwaved, or kept in a liquid warming tray. our local coworker's pick for lunch... i ordered the pulled chicken sando with potato salad. thinking i'd neutralize my pulled chicken out with sauteed veggies... until my sauteed veggies showed up sauteed and drenched in butter. lunch was so heavy that i literally had green juice for dinner. pulled chicken was good, but the bun was all buttered up and soggy by the time i got to it. i usually reach over neighboring plates for fries but after seeing them drenched in oil, it was easy for me not to be rude this time... lol. i guess people think it's good bbq for washington state. read more

I ordered the smoked turkey dinner for takeout. I ended up eating leftovers out of the fridge. Worst turkey I have ever eaten. Straight-up 2nd worst restaurant bbq I've ever had ~ the 1st has been closed (in Port Orchard). Over cooked chicken was served that appeared to have been "held" for some time prior to service. Black bones are a result of looooong cooking and over-heating. What smoke flavor? None here? The sauce was located in a self-serve crock-pot located in a hallway on the way the restrooms. This concoction they pass off as bbq sauce was nothing more than some tomato sauce with maybe some pepper. Awful. NOT recommended. Pity, as the place appears to be a legit joint from the outside. Went here for lunch. We ordered and the food was brought to our table within 5 minutes and the server apologized for the wait!! The pulled pork was very tasty and the bun was amazingly soft and yummy. Also had the cornbread that was really great. Everyone there was very friendly and checked to be sure that we had everything we needed several times. They thanked us at least twice for coming in. Very nice experience! read more

We been going there off and on for years. This time around, we won't be back! Highly disappointed and actually pissed! The gumbo used to be delicious and full of scallops! Tried it again and it was full of peppers and tomatoes, the sausage was dry and old. My husband and I both had the ribs tonight. I like it without the BBQ sauce. Got it with "mash potatoes" and corn bread. When we got our food the ribs wasn't fresh or hot, in fact, it was cold and seemed like it was sitting since this morning or something! The mash potatoes was gross, the texture was horrible. I HATE TO COMPLAIN about food, but for $37 it should have been somewhat warm! I took my meal back to the register to tell the woman politely that it wasn't hot at all. She apologized and said she would fix it and don't be sorry. I told her my husband didn't mind eating it The it was served to us....and he would just finish eating it the way it was. She INSISTED that she would make it right..... in fact his ribs was half way gone. She brought our dish back from the dam microwave! I knew I heard heard dam microwave door shut! I was so annoyed and irritated. I should have demanded for a refund. What the "cook" in the back should have done was completely redo our ribs and made us both a fresh plate of EVERYTHING! Isn't it against code to throw half eaten food from customers anyway? The right thing to do was to make us a fresh meal. I wasn't looking for a FREE meal, I was simply looking for a fresh piece of ribs and fresh mash potatoes! Not sure where they're getting their hogs from, but the ribs was dry and flat! Been coming here for over 12 years. Usually has great food and great service. Today service though had the older woman call me by male pronouns. She continued to do it after I corrected her. It might seem small for them but huge for me being trans. If I ever see her as I come in I am turning around and waiting for another day. We went here on a recommendation from a friend who, like me, is from back East and has actually eaten REAL barbecue. To a North Carolinian like me, just getting "good" BBQ is not going to be enough. In 18 years living in Seattle, I have found ONE place to eat BBQ on a regular basis and that's Three Pigs in Bellevue, which is run by two brothers from Georgia (the American one; not the former Soviet state) who, to be fair, don't know what real BBQ is supposed to taste like because NOBODY from Georgia grows up eating any of it. Theirs is edible; a perfectly acceptable substitute for the real thing, but not great. BUT...our friend said Warthog was the real deal, so we take a Saturday afternoon and go. The place looks right (log house with a down-home sign in front), smells right, is nicely under-decorated inside, and is accessible for Judye's wheelchair, so I'm liking it before the food even shows up. As a NC native, I am legally obligated to order the pulled pork and iced tea, so I do those. We wait a pretty short time and out it comes. The BBQ looks authentic: pulled and trimmed nicely, no visible gristle or fat chunks, and steaming, a big item with us BBQ snots. That's where the good stuff ends, unfortunately. I'll agree that Warthog is the best BBQ I've had in Washington; a hair better than Three Pigs and a mile better than ANY of the other places everybody here claims are wonderful. (Like Pecos Pit , Jones Brothers, etc.) It's not, however - in the vernacular of My People - a "patch on the ass" of the smoked brisket at Lock & Keel in Ballard, but that's beef and I was eating pork at Warthog, so...apples and oranges. But it isn't even within hollering distance of a mediocre BBQ joint in NC. Their sauce was, I thought, the best and most interesting I've had anywhere up here and would probably be considered an interesting alternative for serious BBQ freaks, but the meat itself, while properly moist and tender, just didn't have that distinctive sweet/smoky/peppery flavor that distinguishes great BBQ. I'm starting to believe, after MANY years of this search, that one reason BBQ here never measures up to NC or Texas or KC is that every restaurant here tries to do EVERY style of it: Texas and KC beef, NC pork, ribs, and chicken. In NC, most great joints sell PORK, pulled pork, and that's IT. In Texas, they concentrate on BEEF and that's all.KC is ribs and little else. With the one exception of Angel's BBQ in Savannah, I've never found a BBQ joint that could do more than one style perfectly. At any rate, Warthog was a vast improvement on other local BBQ but just doesn't have the intensity of flavor of the NC style. One reason may be that NC BBQ is typically smoked for two DAYS, rather than the WA norm of eight hours. Prices are very reasonable, the side dishes were flavorful and nicely done, and the service was friendly but Fife is a long haul for that hair's difference from Three Pigs, which is a half-mile from our house. If we're passing through, I'd certainly stop in but I wouldn't drive forty miles for what was on my plate there. read more

I'm so glad I read ALL my fellow Yelpers' reviews before going to this place yesterday evening. I took my own container of BBQ Pete's Pulled Pork sauce with me. My husband and I both ordered the pulled pork sandwich that seemed to get good reviews. Meat was tasteless and rubbery. Sauce was uninspired. Bun, though, was steamed and warm. Cole slaw as crisp but swimming in too much watery dressing. We both slathered on the Pete's sauce and made the best of it. We shared a corn bread muffin for dessert. Now that was good - a little bit of sweetness, nice crunch of corn meal, served with butter and honey. Servers were all friendly and helpful. Tip - the place is NOT air conditioned. read more

This place is just not good. I'm really, really surprised to see the glowing reviews below. I went twice to make sure I didn't just catch them on a bad day. I really, REALLY wanted it to be good...but man. Ouch. On both visits the chicken was sawdust-dry. My wife's chicken sandwich today was awful....inedible-dry and overcooked and far worse than any fastfood joint...she literally couldn't choke it down. My ribs were better, but still ok at best. There were sizable portions of them that were stringy, burned and leathery. The sauce is WAY too sweet...cloyingly so...which would be alright if the meat was good enough to fly solo - it's not. The sides were all good...especially the beans...but this is BBQ joint...not a sides joint. I *DO* know the difference between good and bad bbq. I lived in Tennessee and Texas for 20 years. I've had some of the best of the various styles and loved it all...Rendevous and Corky's in Memphis (never made it to Interstate)....nearly everywhere in Central Texas (Kreutz's Market, Schmitty's, Salt Lick, County Line, Sam's)....no name joints and trailers in Mississippi and Alabama. I didn't expect that sort of quality here...but I did expect it to be at least close to what I can make at home myself. It wasn't. My second time here was much better. The first time I ordered the Salmon Burger and it was pretty much a frozen salmon patty warmed up. The second time, I got the Spicy sausage sandwich with fries/wedges. The customer service is nice and the wait isn't very long. I like the cornbread but found the extra honey on top made it more like a cake. The second time I got the honey on the side and was able to enjoy the cornbread! This place was definitely worth the second trip! Will be checking out the other menu items in the future. read more

AVOID if you like BBQ. I took my entire family (5 of us) here after the day after Christmas. Environment: It was 37 degrees outside, and maybe ~50 inside. I don't know if they decided to turn the heat off or if they don't have heat at all but it was not pleasant to sit at a BBQ place with my jacket on while trying not to get food on it. Aside from that, there were spider webs and dust everywhere inside. We sat close to the restroom and you could still smell the disgusting chemical smell of cleaners - so strong we moved to the other side. Service: The restaurant was maybe 10% full and it took about 13 minutes to get our food. Pretty bad for an empty house. When my plate arrived, it was first, and the meat was already luke-warm. The counter folks were friendly at least. Food: Probably the worst BBQ I've had in many years. Meat was luke-warm to cold. I couldn't even melt the butter on my corn bread! I ate a bite of cornbread and forked the butter at the same time so I could at least have some flavor on it. The rest of the family gave their food a range of 3/10 to 5/10. Sauce: The BBQ sauce they used was also the most terrible sauce I've had in quite some time. It was runny, with no sweet or flavor, just pungent with vinegar. Value for the money: We spent $80 with 0 drinks ordered. That avgs out to $16 per person. Terrible value, and terrible food for the money. I'll never go back! read more

Had an out of town guest who wanted barbecue. I didn't want to drive out to the Ranch House, South Bay Dickerson's was closed (Sunday), so I thought I'd give the Warthog another try. Duh. I'm a glutton for punishment. Indifferent customer service, brisket that was dried out and tough (either two days old or improperly cooked), beans that were way too sweet, and slaw swimming in a watery mayo. Not sure how this place got good reviews. Maybe I need to give it another try. Went there with my large family one afternoon. We were actually the only people there at lunch time which was nice. However the service was really bad. Just not very friendly. The BBQ sause has a different taste then what you would concider BBQ to taste like. Anyways half of my kids spit out the food on the first bite and my kids have never done this. Our kids are very polite straight A+ honor students. Some of our older kids tried 2 or 3 bites and begged us not to make them eat any more. Normally I would make them eat it. But I could not stand that taste either. Maybe it was spoiled or they put the wrong ingrediants in that day. We told the waitress there was something wrong with it and she blamed us. I asked her to try some but she refused and just brought us our $180 bill. (Same order at famous daves would have been about $110-$120. Thought was quite expensive for what you get. Anyways we paid and left all our food there on the table. What a waste that was. Maybe they had a bad day, maybe a dead rat crawled into the BBQ sause. Shit happens. Though I do see a lot of bad reviews like mine I am surprised to see as many good ones. I even hear they are openening up another Warhog in spanaway at the old wagon wheele. I will check it out and try it one more time. If I have a second bad experiance and the BBQ still tastes like crud. I will be sure to post that here as well and make sure to tell everyone I know. Best BBQ I've had in the PNW so far. Had a BBQ chicken sandwich for lunch. The meat was deliciously smoked and full of flavor. The sandwich was light on BBQ sauce, but didn't really need more because the meat was so tasty. Came back the same day for dinner and shared the sampler platter which included all of their meats for around $20. Two people left stuffed with enough leftovers for two lunches the next day...what a deal! My favorites were the BBQ chicken, closely followed by the pork ribs. I seem to forget after about a year and go back and eat there. I'm hoping that if I write this bad review it will remind me never to go back. When I ordered the prime rib dip, I even asked if they could please cut off fat and tipped them 5 bucks at the same time. But maybe since I said something about the prime rib they made it worse on purpose? Even the cookies were so dry I threw them away. This place has been a Fife staple for years. I am not a BBQ guy but there food and people are and always have been amazing. On top of that they employ our local youth around here teaching and training them how to work and deal with the public with grace. I wanted some ribs and had to be in Fife so I got the a half rack of pork rib. Immediately I could see they were not really good BBQ ribs. More steamed with no visible sign of real wood smoke. The meat just fell off the bones due to over-steaming. No taste and worse, no texture. Just mushy rib meat. Having lived in the South and frequently visiting BBQ meccas like Kansas City, Memphis and Austin I am very sure these are nothing approaching real smoked BBQ ribs. Not even close. read more

They failed me today. I ordered a brisket dip today. I asked for Swiss on it. That with a drink and tip was $19. Really expensive for lunch. The bun was perfectly toasted. The fries were undercooked and al dente. Not a great trait for fries. I took the sandwich and dipped in the au jus and the meat was cut so tiny it just fell out of the sandwich and into the au jus. I said that for the money I should have a sandwich that stays can be dipped and fries that were cooked all the way. I got a new sandwich and fries. The fries were still undercooked and the sandwich was a little easier to eat but not much. I think brisket isn't a good medium for a dip sandwich since it was so tender it just fell apart. The parts I did get dipped the au jus was grossly over salty. I think they needed to add more water to their mix. The staff was good and attentive but the overpriced meal that wasn't upto par will keep me away for a long while. read more
