I wanted some ribs and had to be in Fife so I got the a half rack of pork rib. Immediately I could see they were not really good BBQ ribs. More steamed with no visible sign of real wood smoke. The meat just fell off the bones due to over-steaming. No taste and worse, no texture. Just mushy rib meat. Having lived in the South and frequently visiting BBQ meccas like Kansas City, Memphis and Austin I am very sure these are nothing approaching real smoked BBQ ribs. Not even close. read more

They failed me today. I ordered a brisket dip today. I asked for Swiss on it. That with a drink and tip was $19. Really expensive for lunch. The bun was perfectly toasted. The fries were undercooked and al dente. Not a great trait for fries. I took the sandwich and dipped in the au jus and the meat was cut so tiny it just fell out of the sandwich and into the au jus. I said that for the money I should have a sandwich that stays can be dipped and fries that were cooked all the way. I got a new sandwich and fries. The fries were still undercooked and the sandwich was a little easier to eat but not much. I think brisket isn't a good medium for a dip sandwich since it was so tender it just fell apart. The parts I did get dipped the au jus was grossly over salty. I think they needed to add more water to their mix. The staff was good and attentive but the overpriced meal that wasn't upto par will keep me away for a long while. read more

Tried this place 3 times. Cornbread fab but too sweet for me. Sauce fab. Everything else Meh or worse. Meat has no seasoning and little smoke. sides are meh or worse. I have a serious problem with the prices of this place, as that they do what they call BBQ which is dry no flavor meat. Even worse is that with this owner dry no flavor meat is a point of pride as I caught him in the store one day and asked about his BBQ philosophy. My second time here was much better. The first time I ordered the Salmon Burger and it was pretty much a frozen salmon patty warmed up. The second time, I got the Spicy sausage sandwich with fries/wedges. The customer service is nice and the wait isn't very long. I like the cornbread but found the extra honey on top made it more like a cake. The second time I got the honey on the side and was able to enjoy the cornbread! AVOID if you like BBQ. I took my entire family (5 of us) here after the day after Christmas. Environment: It was 37 degrees outside, and maybe ~50 inside. I don't know if they decided to turn the heat off or if they don't have heat at all but it was not pleasant to sit at a BBQ place with my jacket on while trying not to get food on it. Aside from that, there were spider webs and dust everywhere inside. We sat close to the restroom and you could still smell the disgusting chemical smell of cleaners - so strong we moved to the other side. Service: The restaurant was maybe 10% full and it took about 13 minutes to get our food. Pretty bad for an empty house. When my plate arrived, it was first, and the meat was already luke-warm. The counter folks were friendly at least. Food: Probably the worst BBQ I've had in many years. Meat was luke-warm to cold. I couldn't even melt the butter on my corn bread! I ate a bite of cornbread and forked the butter at the same time so I could at least have some flavor on it. The rest of the family gave their food a range of 3/10 to 5/10. Sauce: The BBQ sauce they used was also the most terrible sauce I've had in quite some time. It was runny, with no sweet or flavor, just pungent with vinegar. Value for the money: We spent $80 with 0 drinks ordered. That avgs out to $16 per person. Terrible value, and terrible food for the money. I'll never go back! read more

I seem to forget after about a year and go back and eat there. I'm hoping that if I write this bad review it will remind me never to go back. I went there again yesterday hoping for a better lunch than last year. Nope, the chicken sandwich had bones in it and the prime rib dip was so Fatty i could not even eat it. When I ordered the prime rib dip, I even asked if they could please cut off fat and tipped them 5 bucks at the same time. But maybe since I said something about the prime rib they made it worse on purpose? Even the cookies were so dry I threw them away. Bottom line is I don't mind paying $35 for two sandwiches for lunch but they better taste halfway decent. I hope Fife/federal way gets a halfway decent BBQ Place someday. Wart hog is not good. So the portions are huge, you get what you pay for. The Ribs and Chicken combo is very tasteless and dry. No smoke flavor either. The Cole Slaw, I thought was excellent and so was the Corn Bread. But I don't know what they did to the beans, no good. The Brisket Sandwich was also dry and the dipping sauce was very bland, with some oil floating on it. French Fries was probably left over from yesterday, soft and mushy, probably re-dipped in the hot oil. We could not eat even 1/4 of the fries. I am 65 years old, and I look 65 years old, give or take a couple of years. I cannot believe that the cashier asked me for an ID when I ordered a bottled beer. I was shocked. I asked why do you need to see my ID and her reply was, "just need to see if it is expired." So I said, "why does that matter?" Reply was " It's a State Law." WAH!!!!! Where do these people come from? When I go to Fred Meyer's or Wine's and Spirits, no one asks me for an ID. So I wonder why do they need to see my ID. Do they just want to see my personal info on it? I'm gonna say the meat and atmosphere were conducive to an excellent BBQ. But my favorite part of BBQ is the SAUCE!! I'm pretty sure they only have a house sauce, so a full selection of spicy, sweet, and various flavors would be awesome. UP your sauce game Warthog!!! read more

Simply superb BBQ! This place lets you build your own meal combos and serves beer as well. Indoor seating is tough to come by since this small place is usually packed. The food and service is definately worth it though, about $10 gets you more food than you could ever hope to finish and a beer or two. read more

I tried the Warthog today based upon Yelp reviews, while the customer service was good and the atmosphere was good for a sunny afternoon the food was not what I expected. The chicken and pulled pork was dry and everything was drenched in sauce. A good BBQ won't require sauce however, I'm accustomed to adding sauce as I desire. Almost a year to the date from the last time we were here. I had the BBQ turkey Sandwhich again, it was pretty dry this time. Fries are still good. The boyfriend had the pulled pork Sandwhich with potato salad. Which came to about 2 bites of salad. And his pork Sandwhich hardly had meat or BBQ sauce. For his dish, it came down to portions. I went here after hearing that they were the best for BBQ in the south end. If that's the case, I officially give up. The meat was okay, but BBQ is all about the sauce and I can find better in my local grocery store. There was a Carolina style that was flavorless and another that reminded me of Heinz 57 sauce. My side of sweet potato fries were cold and the portion small for the price. There were three of us in our group and no one was happy with how their food turned out. Been here a few times since we live near by. Biggest issue is inconstancy. Sometimes we go and it's amazing food, other times like tonight it's horrible. We ordered prime rib tonight. We stopped here today for an early dinner. We were not impressed. The ribs and chicken were very fatty with little meat. The flavor of the barbecue was good but the cuts of meat were not good. The roof was leaking in the restaurant. The staff was cleaning and dusting under the tables right next to us. This was not appetizing, they really should wait until the restaurant is closed to do those types of cleaning tasks or at the very least, refrain from doing them while people are trying to eat. Simple requests were not able to be fulfilled (i.e. substitutions) and it was extremely cold in the restaurant. This place was pricey and none of us finished our food. This place has been a Fife staple for years. I am not a BBQ guy but there food and people are and always have been amazing. On top of that they employ our local youth around here teaching and training them how to work and deal with the public with grace. I came with high hopes, but was let down as soon as my brisket entree was placed in front of me. It was tough, dry, and had about a tablespoons worth of sauce on it. It wasn't smoked either, but tasted like it was done in a crock pot. They give you very little sauce as if it was there last of it, which was fine cause it was horrible any how. How disappointing to go to a bbq place expecting to have some baby back ribs only to find out they don't always have them. My advice is don't order the tough prime rib unless you bring your own knife and are in the mood to really chew! The cat laying on the table was a little bit of a surprise in a restaurant. I didn't think this was bad at all. I had the ribs and chicken platter and I put most of it away. Whoever said that the chicken was like sawdust needs to get over themselves - mine was still tender and juicy with the perfect amount of sauce. The ribs did have some fat on them, but ya know what? Barbeque is not pretty, people. It's not supposed to be fat free, healthy, neat, clean, dainty, etc. It's pure carnivorous deliciousness that requires lots of napkins. I grew up in Texas and lived there for 20 years.....I know barbeque. This place is close by and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. I like the fact that you pay in advance. I will go no where else for prime rib on Fri. and Sat. nights. The slow roasted smokey flavor is the best I've ever had! Substitute their fries for the garlic mash and you have the perfect meal. The hand cut fries are seasoned with the same rub used on the meat and they are just the right amount salty sweetness. Truly an awesome fry. read more

If I could I would get it 3 1/2 stars. Stopped in for lunch the other day, and ordered a brisket sandwich with baked beans. I consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur of barbecue, so I know that barbecue typically isn't very cheap. The brisket sandwich was okay. The best part about it was the bun and the sauce. The meet it self-worth is rather on the dry side, and the intense smoke flavor that I typically like with barbecue just wasn't there. The one thing you did have going for it other than the bun, Was that you do get a large amount of meat in the sandwich itself is rather large. For around $14, I was completely full at the end of my lunch, had a soda to go, and overall was impressed to a medium degree. I will most likely return pretty soon to try other menu items, because good barbecue is not easy to find in Western Washington. So next time I may have the ribs and those may turn out to be much better than the brisket. Go try it for yourself and see, it's not that bad, but it's not the best barbecue ever had. ****Update***** Stopped in again and tried the pulled pork sandwich. I tried it as a combo, and it came with a huge basket of french fries. The fries were once fried, and very greasy but some people might like that. The pulled pork itself was very good, but a little on the wet side for my liking, as it soaked the bottom half of my bun pretty good. I put a little of the hot barbecue sauce that's available on the tables on the sandwich and it turned out okay, but didn't change my 3 1/2 star rating for this place. As a stop between BC and Portland initially just to refill petrol, this place was quite an unexpected find. Other than the one sign that got my attention as we took the off ramp from I-5, we had no additional clues how to find this place, which is buried in an industrial park. Turns out it was worth the effort to look for it! I agree w/the 3.5 cumulative rating on this one, and give the push to 4 stars for down to earth, friendly service. It wasn't busy when we stopped in, and it did seem to take quite a while to get our orders. Fortunately, it was well worth the wait. We both ordered the daily special, the BBQ chipotle Reuben (the very idea intrigues, ey?). We were both completely satisfied. The rye bread held up well and didn't become a soggy, unmanageable mess the way it so very often does w/Reubens. The kraut was crisp and tart and drew a nice contrast to the hot gooey cheese and plentious shreds o' brisket. The beef was a tad dry and not altogether smoky, and these are the only blemishes I could detect in an otherwise nearly flawlessly executed sandwich. VERY nicely done! The huge pickle spears and generous pile o' sweet potato fries easily finished off whatever tiny pockets of hunger pangs we still had after our Reubens. Seriously, those fries though--- crispy and crusty w/spice and flavor on the outside (but not too salty!), and light and fluffy on the inside w/o being greasy or flaccid or lifeless. I've never been a fry guy, but do enjoy the occasional sweet potato fries, and this was the best batch I've had in ages. For the sake of posterity as well as to ensure we didn't simply "make it all up" and convince ourselves we weren't simply hallucinating about the food here, we got a carry out sampler to enjoy later. The ribs were good--- fall off the bone tender and yet still moist but smokey. Their buffalo burger patty was tasty and not too dry (extra biggups to them for offering bison--which most places don't, and so far, the only place I know of in Portland that does Buffalo ribs and briskets is Campbell's, in SE). Their hot link, always a sampler item i look for, was as good as a no show, I'm sorry to report. The chicken, finally, I found to be dry and uneventful. The bean stew/ chili was excellent, a meal unto itself. I see it got high marks from many others in Yelp-Land, and consider this one more Plaudit. If you ever get thee to Fife, WA, check out Warthog, and DEFINITELY check out their chili----- as well as their chipotle reubens, if they happen to offer them on that particular day... Someday I'll pass this way again and when I do, I won't hesitate to spend some hard-earned moolah there @ Wart-hog. If you love BBQ, they are worth a try! read more

We stopped in here for lunch. I ordered the brisket which was tender. More then I can say about 75% of the other bbq joints. Cool log building. Only problem is it is small. This is my favorite BBQ spot in Pierce County for sure. The atmosphere is great, the food is amazing, it's a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. I had the pulled chicken sandwich and I've literally been wanting another one since then! The cornbread was also amazing, their honey butter is to die for. The only thing that was odd to me was the menu - it was kind of confusing. When you walk in and order the menu you see is totally different and shorter than the paper menu that sits at the tables. Although I loved the sandwich, I'm not much a sandwich eater and would have gotten just pulled chicken had I known that was an option - something that wasn't presented on the menu board. The potato salad was ok, little heavy on the mayo but decent...but the disappointment was the sweet cornbread which was as hard a hockey puck which can bring down an otherwise good experience. read more
