Went here last night with my boyfriend. When we arrived we were right away seated with strangers. But we managed to get acquainted with our neighbors and shared the table with no problems. In fact one of the guys that shared our table....generously offered Sake Bombs. It was a nice ice breaker and he was very nice. We waited a good 20 to 30 mins and it looked like the people before us who seated with us were waiting at least an hour. So basically we were waiting for our Teppanyaki chef to come to our grill table to entertain and serve us. My boyfriend and I ordered the combo fried rice, mix veggies, beef and calamari. LEARNING ADVICE Order food other than their teppanyaki part of the menu. If you're here just to watch a guy twirl his cooking tools and cook in front of you only then by all means keep it this way. But if you are here to have a FOODIE Experience.....you should order other than their Teppanyaki part of the menu. Im being serious. SERVICE I'd say the entertainment was fun to watch. The Teppanyaki chef was funny, entertaining and great at cooking. The wait help was patient in bringing in the items to us like the drinks and the bill. FOOD Maybe it was the way we bought our food. We only got the food they place on the grill to cook in front of us. It was only for entertainment. If I had to do this again, I'd also try the other stuff on their menu like their sushi rolls. I have yet not tried them. We kind of just went with the combo and watched the chef cook. Honestly in my opinion, I was not too impressed with what we ordered. The total value I paid for was not comparable to what I ordered to eat. Judging by what we ordered, I think this version of the food was mainly for the Teppanyaki entertainment. I was not impressed by what I've ordered. It's almost like buying what you get for Chinese food except overpriced. If I had to do this again, I'd order more of the other stuff to give them a fair review. So I lack reviewing the foods you can order other than Teppanyaki. I'd say this review I'm writing is based on the food we ordered for the Teppanyaki only. PLUS I have to say this is a great place for dates and making conversation with friends. All for a good time. It looks like a great place for happy hour. AGAIN? If I do come here again, I'll order other than Teppanyaki stuff. read more

This was my first time at this place. I opted with their Hibachi. The server took our drink order and came back fast. Our cook came in about 10m or less. His name was Jacky. I've been to a few other Hibachi restaurants but Jacky's blows them all away! He was friendly, entertaining, and made sure everything was good. I got the upgraded Garlic Bacon Fried Rice with Steak and Chicken. Everything tasted very good. Inside looks nice all the tables were very clean and they have a nice lineup up the alcohol they serve. Too expensive for what you get. I had the shrimp tempura maki and my brother had the steak and shrimp dinner. The sushi roll was very small. About the size of a quarter. And it seemed to be very old. It was dry and extremely chewy. No crunch to the tempura at all. My brothers dinner was much better. He got soup, salad, lots of vegetables and lots of rice, but a very small portion of steak. I thought it was filet mignon at first because of the size. And then about 6 shrimp. So he got full, but not on the proteins. My sushi was about $14 and his meal was about $37. I can't remember the exact prices. But I do remember feeling it was too expensive for what you get. The chef was great though, very entertaining. I guess that's what you are paying for because they really skimp on the food. I really don't like that the tea is served in mugs. I would much rather have traditional Japanese tea cups. The service wasn't all that great. They take your order and they deliver your food. They never asked how the food was or I would have told them how my sushi was almost inedible. Came here for my little sister's birthday- we felt like the chef was in such a rush- barely any tricks or anything :(. Compared to our other experiences with other Hibachi restaurants this place doesn't compare.... I was expecting more especially considering how expensive it is. The food was pretty average nothing special about this place. The steak & chicken was really hard and bland. The service was okay. Fun evening with chef cooking. Downside: vegetables super salty bc they usied both soy and teriyaki sauce. Vegetables a bit over cooked bc was placed early on grill and then served after every person's protein cooked and served. So if you have a small group this likrly not an issue but with large group definitely an issue. Fun for entertainment but food just ok. The food never disappoints when I come here. They have an extensive menu of sushi to hibachi. I always bring friends visiting from out of town and they end up loving it. Great for big parties celebrating birthdays with or even just grabbing a quick drink. This was the first time we ate at Wasabi. I had the steak/chicken combo. The flavor was good and the dipping sauces enhanced the flavor of the meats. This is the first time I visited Wasabi. I went to the elk Grove location on a Saturday night. I went for a friend's birthday around 7:30 p.m. the restaurant was busy but not packed. We had reservations Im not sure if they accept walk-ins. The food was really good and I really liked our chef, even if he did pick on me a little bit. This was a really fun experience but also very expensive. If anyone's read any of my reviews I usually dine at budget friendly restaurants. We had our checks split however they will only split them 2x2. The bill was around 150 bucks. That was including appetizers and drinks. I've never really had great food at any hibachi style restaurant and this was no different. The food was just ok. I got the garlic fried rice with scallops and steaks it was just cooked with butter ( a lot of it ) and some basic seasoning. I was actually pretty disappointed in the garlic fried rice it wasn't very garlicky even though you have to pay more for it... the star was really chief Jacob he put on a great show and the kids loved it. After all I do really come to these things for the entertainment. The service was great attentive and friendly and the inside was more spacious then expected. Really good! Chef was great! Love the atmosphere! Loved it! Had to wait just a little bit even though we had reservations, but they made sure that we were being accounted for. This place is terrible I don't even know where to start. We took our family here for our 7 year olds birthday they over cooked our steak. The garlic rice was bland it Didn't say in the menu that all the chicken is covered in teriyaki sauce. The chicken was chewy as well and they didn't even sing happy birthday to our son or give him a dessert after they did it for 2 other parties while we were there and he left upset. I've been to several teppanyaki restaurants like these and they are all pretty much the same IMO - same basic menu options and same basic tricks with the knives and food. This is the first time I ever felt a bit shortchanged, though. The table next to ours was full and the chef was giving them a helluva show. Our table only had four people , though, and I felt because of that through no fault of our own, we got much less of one - no jokes, no witty banter, nada, just the obligatory knife tricks and he was outta there! For the post-covid prices and the many other equal or better nearby dining options, I feel each of the chefs gotta bring their A game every time. read more

My family dined at Wasabi on 9/29/23. We had an odd and disconcerting experience. My daughter and I each ordered meals that included steak. After a single bite I immediately could tell the meat was spoiled. Shortly thereafter my daughter spoke up and said that her meat also tasted foul. We quietly told our server and did NOT ask for any compensation. We simply wanted to make the server aware the meat was definitely off and we did not want anyone to become ill with a food borne illness. We both had plenty of other food and did not need any replacement. Unbelievably, our server said that management wanted the meat returned so that we would not continue to eat it and then ask to get it free! Unfortunately, from that point on, we were treated poorly for the rest of the evening. We were also told that the meat tasted bad because of the way ordered it. The truth was that the meat was spoiled, plain and simple. I did not want a refund, nor did I ask for one. I just wanted to continue with my evening. Sadly, the restaurants attitude was defensive from that point on. What we got for the remainder of the evening was an accusatory, uncomfortable vibe. What we did NOT get was an apology, just a few simple words express regret for what happened. An apology goes a long way. read more

My kids were big fans of Benihanas and with them closing the Sacramento location we had to look elsewhere. We were looking at Kobe and the reviews all seemed to recommend Wasabi instead so we gave them a shot, and we are glad we did. We were seated right away but they had just opened so I'd recommend calling ahead for a reservation if you come later because in the time we were there it filled up quickly. They have a large selection of items from hibachi to various sushi rolls. Their pricing is a little more expensive than I was anticipating but the price of everything is increasing so it is what it is. We opted for hibachi steak, lobster, scallops and shrimp which each order comes with salad, soup, white rice and veggies. We upgraded our white rice to fried rice and the portion of rice we got was huge! The steaks were tiny and were cut into several pieces to give the appearance it was more than it really was which was a little of a let down. The scallops, shrimp and lobster tail were all great. Overall Wasabi was a hit. I love that they have a large sushi menu on top of the hibachi options. They also have a bar so lots of yummy cocktails which makes this place a nice date night idea. read more

My kids love Wasabi. They love the experience here. Every time we visit Elk Grove, they look forward to a dinner and table show from Jacob, our favorite hibachi chef. I called and ordered a side steak with two sides of bacon fried rice. I CANNOT BELIEVE I was charged $13.95 for this tiny amount of steak! I got home and opened the box and this was the amount of steak I received. Look at the comparison of the steak to the rice. I know the steak is naturally more expensive but $13.95 for this!? You get WAY more in the meals. Had I known the side was going to be this tiny I would've just ordered a meal. I didn't even order filet mignon or a special steak. This is usually one of my favorite places to go eat and I normally think the prices are worth it for the amount of food you get but this is just ridiculous in my opinion. Tuesday, 3/10/2020 - With Benihana closed forever, my very good friend found this place and took us there to try for dinner. It's all of our first time at this restaurant. Located in a little plaza with a few stores, hidden in the corner. It's about 25x50-ish size and like 6 tables with 8 chairs to each. Upon first arrival, the hostess was REALLY nice and seated us right away. Our waitress brought us water right away. Came and took our drink orders. We waited about 30 minutes before our chef arrived to our table to cook for us. Our chef, Kenny, did a great job entertaining us. The food portion here was awesome! We didn't leave hungry. Here's my thoughts: Pros: 1) restaurant was clean 2) hostess was very nice. She greeted us, talked to us and seated us right away. 3) Food portions were a good size. We had plenty of left overs. Steak was perfectly cooked and tender. We got it medium rare. Chicken was good. 4) waitress was great. Took our orders and brought us what we needed. Checked on us to see if we needed anything once. 5) waitress brought our rice on good timing. Steam rice was nice and soft. 6) Salad and soup were great! 7) the 2 dipping sauce were good. Love the ginger dip. 8) our table was clean. 9) silverware, cups, and plates were clean. 10) customer service here was great. 11) reasonably priced for everything. 12) our chef was great! Good entertainment. 13) nice atmosphere. 14) 7:45pm, no waiting 15) women's bathroom is clean. There's only 1 stall. 16) I was sharing my food with my little one. And they kindly split my food with my little one with no problem. How sweet was that!! Cons: 1) no cons. Conclusion: we had a GREAT experience here. We will definitely go here again and we highly recommend it. We haven't gone on a Friday or Saturday night. But this experience was awesome. read more
