Thankfully we were seated and given menus the moment that we arrived. We were never asked if we wanted a drink while we waited. Another couple that came up were also not given drinks after they were seated. Maybe that's a thing? We ordered our food to go. When we got back, we noticed that we had a mix of old stale fries and fresh fries. On my platter, the shrimp and oysters were seasoned nicely. Food is the best. Never fails to please regardless of what you select. I was excited they had started selling beers which I could enjoy with meals but then I saw that a Mich Ultra cost $6.00 and decided I would not do that again. Food was good, not excellent but good. Drinks were very good and atmosphere and ambiance with the cozy feel of the hard wood was wonderful on a cold night. Our server was terrific. A bit pricey for the level Of quality but the happy hour menu helped offset all of the extra charges for what really should be included like bread or crackers with soup, ketchup with French fries and cocktail sauce with seafood. Great service and delicious food. It's outdoor seating right at the doc. We loved the fishing town atmosphere down by the water. I went with my husband and 15 year old son and 13 year old daughter. We had the red snapper special blackened with fries, peel-and-eat shrimp, blackened shrimp basket, hush puppies, mini corndogs, and homemade key lime pie. We also had calamari--delicious! But the serving could have been bigger--would have gladly paid a higher price for a bigger portion.) I also had the collard greens and while the texture was good, they flavor was just okay because they were too sweet for me. We also didn't really care for the coleslaw. Oh and we met a local who visits almost daily, Paul, who offered us his high top table, and we ended up chatting for about 20 minutes before he left. Love those experiences! Top-notch dinner at this waterside seafood fanatics dream! Outdoor dining with pleasant table-side service. Plenty of seafood options to choose from - steamed favorites, sandwiches, baskets, dinners. Our party loved the perfectly and lightly battered shrimp, meaty flounder and flavorful (and meaty!) crab cakes. Hush puppies are on par, coleslaw was great (not wet and soggy!), fries are also good. Sweet tea was as it should be for the south. Andrew took great care of us and we enjoyed a great meal by the beautiful waterside. Loved the quaint establishment. Will return!! read more

After visiting last year where had a great meal on the docks expected same this time BUT a few things took away a great time. They did not have any hard shell crabs( major disappointment boats hadn't gone out) where I ordered food from young lady wasn't helpful in ordering in fact my bill was $71.04 for cash or charge higher amt. I gave her $101.00 and said I'd go get the 5 cents . She then gave me $28.?? And said if you get the 4 cents she'd give me the money which she had figured wrong , my idea was to get bills back not 96 cents in coin. This is a little slice of heaven. From our first interaction of the super cheerful guy at the market, we even had the opportunity to meet the owner who was super friendly... who can blame him though... great food... gorgeous views... and vacationing customers. Every employee here is happy, cheerful and it shows. They have a market, charter fishing boats and restaurants. We were lucky enough to have Drew as our server. Huge thanks to our server Jan and chef extraordinaire Malcolm for a superior meal and dining experience! The 3 of us were promptly sat at a spot of our choosing. Jan quickly met us with menus and a warm welcome. After chatting about the options, we spoke with Malcom regarding his recommendations. We were all pleased with our meals. Great spot on the water we had soft shell sandwiches they where cooked perfect. They didn't serve beer but we where allowed to bring our own which was cool. The cutest little seafood shack ever! Love that we got to eat outside and enjoy the beautiful view of the pier. The customer service was very nice and fast! We ordered the steam pot and would highly recommend it! It's really affordable and tastes really fresh! It was seasoned perfectly with a great variety of dipping sauces: butter, cocktail, and tarter sauce. The portion size is big enough to share among 2-3 people. Yes, you may have to dodge every seafood restaurant in Calabash to reach this little hidden gem, but what an unexpectedly fun departure from the ordinary restaurant scene it is, if and when, you finally find it! We discovered it due to the excellent Yelp reviews and found everything exactly as reported. The eight or so waterfront umbrella-topped tables are indeed breezy and comfortable, and the entire brightly colored exterior has a causal Margheritaville-like vibe. It is sandwiched between two stand alone seafood behemoths, so look for it closely just to the right of Captain Nance's. Be aware however that, unlike its neighbors, they offer no inside seating and the wind can be challenging at times, but we found that to be a minor annoyance worth contending with. All three in our group chose the fresh catch special of the day, Almaco Jack fish filets and shrimp, for $15.99. It was accompanied by fries, coleslaw and, everyone's favorite, their addictive hush puppies. I had never heard of Almaco Jack and was excited by its availability. It is a delicious meaty white fish and, as with the shrimp, was lightly breaded to perfection. Of course, we knew too well from the reviews to leave room for the Fried Pound Cake with Ice Cream. Thank goodness we did! It was crunchy, carmelized and perfectly golden browned on the outside yet incredibly moist inside. The butter-pecan ice cream was its perfect partner. Throw in friendly and attentive service and a sanitation grade of 97, and you've got it... it's definitely a Gotta Try! read more

Any time we come close to Calabash, NC we make an effort to go the the Waterfront Seafront Shack. There are multiple restaurants located in this one spot. But their food food is the best!! Fresh caught. You can get your food prepared many ways and they have a real " catch of the day special " The service is always good. They are like everyone else where they may be waiting on more people than they should, but with the times the way they are they do a good job. The neat thing about Waterfront Seafood Shack is that you eat outside!!! You can eat exactly as the name says- outside looking over the Intercostal Water Way or you can sit out front at the outside picnic tables. Where they have Tiki like umbrellas over the tables.
