Gotta love Weck's! Who hasn't been to one of the handful of locations in town for a huge plate of delicious breakfast? I have my go-to items, but everything is very good here. They have special flavored coffees which are great. On my latest visit, it was a Mexican spiced coffee. Yum! The pancakes are huge! Beware. And they are fluffy and delicious. The french toast is also quite good, light, sweet, nicely cinnamon, everything it should be. One of my favorites is the carne adovada breakfast burrito, with eggs and super tender carne adovada wrapped up and smothered in either their red, green or both, which are both flavorful and with a nice heat. The hash browns are crispy and plentiful as well. Of course, the star of the show is the papas - a bowl of hash browns topped with eggs, meat and chile. Big or small, you can't go wrong here. Watch out, the place can be quite busy on the weekends, but generally worth it. read more

Decided to come here based on a recommendation from a friend, and I'm glad I did! The interior is decorated really cool! Pictures of Elvis, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and various movie posters. It definitely has the feel of a diner meets modern day restaurant. The staff was beyond friendly! The manager even came over to each table to ask how everything was! Rarely do I ever see that happen at restaurants. As for the food I ordered the T.G.G (turkey, bacon, guacamole, green chili, lettuce, tomato) sandwich with sweet potato fries and onion rings. A little messy but so worth it and tasted great! I was craving brunch this morning and for some reason I've never tried Wecks. The only reason being I always thought it was a basic cafe with nothing good. Well you know how they say never judge a book by its cover? Yeah I need to start living more by that saying because boy was I wrong about Wecks. I'm an eggy kinda guy and fascinated by all the different textures you can get from an egg it's sooo cool right? So I decided to have the New Mexico Benedict. Wow, is all I can say I think it's a great brunch place. They do try to put customer service first here. Our server was nice and so was the manager. But i do not go out to eat just to experience customer service. The food is pretty middle of the road, with uninspired huge portions of starchy breading and potatoes. I had the Pappas plate which contained no less than 5 potatoes made into hash browns, topped with carnitas and x- mass chile. I do not see what the hype is about. It was bland and only a person for a morbidly obese appetite would be gleeful trying to finish this monstrosity. I would not order this again. To fix this dish I would use no more than 2 potatoes and make it a nice manageable crispy layer- instead of the mostly pasty pile that I was left to wrangle. Also I there was lingering taste of the fry oil and possibly margarine on the tortilla. Maybe I was hallucinating trying to eat all those taters. I did not even dent the pile, which makes me sad as I feel badly about throwing away food. Another reviewer had raved about the chicken fried steak saying they had this dish in 10 states and it was the best ever. The boyfriend said it was a solid 3.5. He used to live in Austin so I tend to go with his opinion. If you do eat here order something small, unless you are trying to get your weight up to a Sumo weight class. I had some business at its nextdoor neighbor UPS that day then I found myself hungry and cold, so I came in and decided to order a bowl of soup and hot tea on a cold, windy weekday noon. Their soup of the day was green chile chicken stew that comes with 1 tortilla. It was okay. Nothing to brag about. Their price is also pretty high, I must say. For hot tea and quite small bowl of soup, my tab was close to 10 bucks. This is my first visit to a Weck's diner. Why 4 stars? Whats pretty impresive is their service. I am bad with names but I can still remember the waitress's name. It was Pammy. She is so warm, welcoming and makes you feel right at home, reminding you of your grandma or your mom fussing over you. She is such a social buttefly, joking around with customers and making sure everyone's happy. She came by my table to ask me how I was doing several times asking if I need more tortilla or whatever. Her sincerity and energy is amazing. The manager, forgot his name, was also ever-present in the restaurant visiting tables. I would have ordered more food, as I saw plates with almost overflowing mounds of food (not kidding) being delivered to other tables, but I wasn't feeling too well that day. It's Saturday morning and you're in that paradoxical state where drinking till 6 in the morning has led to the inability to stay asleep past 10 AM. So there you are, you're hungover and starving, craving any sort of sustenance, and fortunately for you, your friends aren't as hungover (or still drunk for that matter) and they're more than capable of operating a motor vehicle. If you have any reasonable amount of time on your hands you would be doing a serious dis-service to yourself to not go to Weck's. Homegrown entrees with gigantic portions, a friendly waitstaff, and modestly tacky decor create for a strangely comforting way to spend your hang over. On occasion a screaming child or large party has made my morning a little more difficult, but once the food hits my palate and I've begun to rehydrate all is forgiven. No one can do me no harm. The portions at Weck's are considerable and as such you must strategize your meal. It's a great place for sharing, but if you're not in the position to do so, taking home leftovers has never left me disappointed later in the day. If you're looking to spend the day resting or napping, finishing the entire meal will make that a much easier possibility. Basically there is no wrong way to do it. Weck's is an Albuquerque success story and I congratulate them for that. I'm all for keeping it local. However... I keep trying and trying Weck's, thinking I might "get it" on one of these visits, or finally find that one menu item that I can't be without. The service is good because they have a massive server to customer ratio. The portions are gigantic, nobody is gonna be hungry after a trip to Weck's. But I just do not see the appeal. In the end it's 'OK but not great' food and long wait times. It's actually a good place to take the extended family when you have an hour and a half to eat and have less adventurous eaters and a lot of people that want different foods and you can't all agree on someplace else. Weck's offers the standard diner fare for breakfast and lunch (burgers, sandwiches, omelets, egg dishes) along with some New Mexican favorites. All of their food is good, but most of it is just good. I opt for the latter most of the time. Huevos Rancheros with Carne Adovada are decent, but don't stack up to other places in town. Let me just say, paying $3.59 for carne adovada on the side is NOT worth it. For that price, you only got a couple of bites of carne and, while it was decent, it was hardly noticeable among the other components of the meal. The food itself was tasty, but honestly, I have had much better. Small things ended up making the difference. Using hash browns instead of fried potatoes, paying extra for meat, the fact that the red chile had absolutely no heat to it whatsoever and tasted a bit too much like enchilada sauce, and the general lack of spices kept this one from a real shot at the crown. Portions on most things (that I've had) are heaping, but the huevos rancheros, even with the added meat, are relatively small. No leftovers there. Plus, I could have used substantially more red chile on mine. For me, the only real reason to go to Weck's anymore is the papas plate. 'Papas' is of course Spanish for 'heaping mountain of breakfast food', and Weck's definitely delivers on that. Tons of delicious hash browns covered in red or green, a couple of eggs your way, your choice of meat, and cheese, and it comes with a tortilla. A great combination of flavors in a portion that is two meals even for me. Unfortunately, whether you get red or green, they really don't give you enough of either. I always have to ask for an extra bowl of chile on the side, just to have enough. Still, an excellent dish to order. Weck's is a bit weak on the New Mexican food, but where breakfast is concerned they do quite well. A few things miss, but usually things are huge and delicious, if a little underpowered heatwise. My review is based on the cinnamon rolls :). Everybody raves about a "certain place in town" having great cinnamon rolls but I have to say when I am craving a cinnamon roll Weck's hits the spot for me! You get the option of either cutting and grilling your cinnamon roll or nuking it. I prefer it nuked. I have had the grilled version and it's good... Different but good. If you aren't sure you can ask them to grill half and warm half and choose what you like. For breakfast, I usually order the original papas plate which is easily enough food for 3 people. I order it with Christmas on the side and no sausage. I do not like their sausage in this meal but I am pretty picky when it comes to sausage as I typically do not eat it. I wouldn't say this is a very healthy breakfast (obviously) but oh well. Every once in a while its good. read more

This is a great place for breakfast/brunch. Took my daughter and two year old grandson. The waitress was great with him. Very patient. The adults had Huevos Rancheros green and the grandson pancake. All was good, tasty, what can you say about Wecks! The only thing I noticed was that the wait staff was slammed and previously the managers have kind of acted as back up. Asking patrons how things were and even pouring coffee, making rounds a couple times during our visit. This one kind of hung back and finally walked around we could've used another cup of coffee but by the time I was thinking of asking him the waitress showed. Service and food makes this an across the board five. I believe the waitress name was Polly or Pauline. They don't have name tags and I'm horrible with names. Anyways, her service was excellent and she was extremely attentive to my needs. Very patient and checked up on me periodically. I ordered the big piggy omelette with hash browns. They were both smothered in green chile and the omelette was packed inside. Oh and the english muffin was very good. Not sure why it tasted different but it was way more fluffy than a normal one. I would say I received my monies worth. Loved the strawberry lemonade, but would recommend bigger straws because the fruit will get stuck in the entry point inside the cup. read more
