Chicken friend chicken is to die for. That plus home made sides - especially the collards and okra, are awesome. When tots are on the specials - be sure to get the jalapeno cheese dip for them. After waiting over 40 minutes for a table when we were told it would be 20, we then waited an additional 10 before a waitress even came to take our drink orders. The manager brought the appetizer out and was very rude to us when we complained about the service thus far. The appetizer, fried pickles were a very odd temperature. Most of the pickles were cold while a few were hot. The manager compensated for the wait by bringing us our food very quickly. The main meals of shrimp and grits and a shrimp po boy were mediocre at best. After all was said and done, we barely got an apology much less anything compensated on our meal. If this place lasts through 2010, I will be surprised! read more

We sat and waited on our to-go order. One of the convict looking cooks in the back was not wearing gloves and was dishing out lettuce to the salad plates. He constantly rubbed his face, eyes, mouth etc. Texted on his cell phone and went back to preparing salads. Once he realized he was being watch, he put on the gloves. We looked around to see what their food score was but oddly, couldn't find it posted anywhere. HMMMM! read more

I will say I was happy with the food here. Although I am not much of a comfort food eater when I go out to restaurants, everything they had was white good. My only complaint was after we were seated we didn't see a server for roughly 20 minutes. I'm going to assume that they were busy. Also, they open very late on Sunday morning. So don't expect to be going here after church. I was a bit frustrated when I drove out one morning and saw they didn't open until 11 on Sunday. read more

Everything on the menu looks and sounds really good. Until you taste it. Just bland and lacking. I got the blackened mahi mahi fish tacos. There wasn't a hint of lime or cilantro anywhere, which, come on, are pretty commonplace ingredients in fish tacos! It just tasted like fish with shredded cabbage. I couldn't even tell that there was any cheese in them. The fried green tomatoes were crispy and greasy, but really tough to cut into and chew, like they'd been under a heat lamp for some time. The shrimp remoulade tasted like it came out of a can. And again, it was all just very bland. I know that this place has a really high senior citizen crowd, so I'm betting that has something to do with it. Service was good though, so 3 stars. read more

I am reviewing this place after having eaten there 5 or 6 times with declining experiences. Had I reviewed it after I first ate there in the winter of 2010, I would probably have given it 4stars. First of all let me say, the food is pretty good and they give you huge portions. The only thing I don't recommend is the burger, because they simply don't know how to cook it. My husband orderd a med well on back to back visits and the first one was bloody and the second one was incinerated. He also said there were pockets of salt throughout both times. That being said, I really hope the owner of this restaurant reads this review. I have never seen an adult (over say 25) in this place and it shows in the service. Several times we have had to stand at the hostess stand far too long before being greeted because the hostess' are also busboys and drink getters. Sometimes you have to wait not because of diners at the the tables but because all the empty tables are dirty. So today, after a wait of about 15 minutes we were sat at the first table just inside the door (not an ideal spot, but we werren't being picky on such a busy day.) The hostess came and took our drink order and returned with the drinks, then it was another 5-10 minutes before our server showed up to introduce herself. The two tables that had been sat after us had their food already. We ordered and waited as the others tables left while we were still waiting on food. The food fianlly arrived and was fine except for the salty, incinerated burger. Except one BIG problem, the waitress said, "oh no, another table w/ no silverware"!! She didn't mean none on our table, she meant NONE clean in the whole restaurant! We waited looking at our food for about 5 minutes and she returned with forks only. (I'm scared to ask how they were washed....) My husband needed a knife to cut his burger, so more waiting. After we ate and were again waiting; on the check, we took the time to really look around at the staff. There is one young man who seems to be the manager/bartender and all the rest are young women. The kitchen staff doesn't have to wear hairnets or anyhting and there is one cook w/ dreadlocks and another w/ a beard. I think this place is in need of some hands - on adult leadership. I don't know who the owners are, but they had better wake up and step up before all these kids run their place into the ground. read more

Bit hard to find in the shopping center, but it's the reason the parking lot is full. Always busy! Our extended family loves the place, especially mac n cheese with veggies for a veggie plate. On my first visit, most of the table went for blackened Mahi Mahi tacos. Delish, but I'd rather see the fish shine without so much cheese, etc. I expect if I asked it would happen for me. Service was excellent- on time, thoughtful, & knew just what we would need & when we'd need it. The kid loves the diner dip- didn't get to taste, but she loves it. Sweet potato fries are over the top. I'll update when we get back- they may get the elusive 5th star yet;) read more

I LOVE West Cobb Diner! This restaurant has exceptional food, a diverse menu, terrific service, and a great beer and wine selection. I really like the patio on a summer afternoon but this is a fantastic place to eat no matter where you sit. Finally tried the turkey dinner and I see what all the rave reviews are about! It was overly filling and delicious. In addition to the stuffing I was able to choose 2 sides, sweet potato mashed and collard greens. Delicious! A recent transplant to the Atlanta area, WCD has quickly become an easy go-to spot for me and the hubby. This place never fails to scratch my home-cooking itch with stick to your ribs classics like meat loaf, turkey dinner, fish and chips, pork chops, and of course, fried chicken, shrimp and grits and mac & cheese. They do mama's cooking right, while adding a zing of their own (blueberry sauce with pork chops, cranberry compote with turkey, jalapeno hush puppies with fish & chips...). This place isn't going to set the Atlanta dining scene on fire, especially with its OTP location, but for us suburbanites, it's a great place to go for a weekday supper when the thought of cooking at home makes you want to scratch your eyes out. Go to enjoy it's yummy simplicity, and you won't be disappointed. read more

Best Roast Beef dinner I've ever had in my life! My husband and I eat here whenever we can. The food is always delicious and the service is excellent! The owners operate their business with a superb staff and the environment is very family friendly! To Jo M. Who felt the need to say that I had no idea what I was talking about with food safety. I did not say I did not like the way something taste or complained my server was not attentive. I simply stated my experience and it was in fact, horrible. Regardless of frying or grilling, or "buckets with sanitized solutions are placed under various stations" I was upset that I saw a complete lack of regard for HYGIENE! Also what upset me probably the most, which I do not think that every single place I go adheres to all health guidelines, is the fact that the chef/owner knew I was VERY upset and did not even come over to speak with me!?!?!?!?!?! I am not the only person to feel that the owners are a little sensitive and not very good at taking criticism. Can you make all customers happy? No. But can you recognize when you made a mistake and try to correct it. Yes! So Jo M., you are interesting similar in taking such a strong stance in my review. Maybe you know the owners? This is a regular option in our restaurant rotation. It has the benefit of a diner's broadly diverse menu with the great plus that the majority of options are very good. Often folks pick a diner for the options and are willing to sacrifice some quality, but there's little slippage in food quality here compared to higher priced restaurants with much smaller menus. Most regulars here have favorites they'll try to sell you on, and although we have lots of likes the seafood dishes are often the real stars. Our only knock is that when they're very busy, what ch is not uncommon; the hostesses and waitstaff tend to get frazzled and food temps can be inconsistent. Otherwise service is very good. read more

We go there for the fish tacos...they are without doubt the best fish tacos we have ever eaten. They plate them with lots of tasty salad. So this rating is only for the fish tacos. The reason it's not a five star is the last two visits they were just not up to past performance. Hope this is not a trend! read more

After reading all the great reviews on Yelp, we had to try this place. We got here a little after 5pm on a Tuesday evening, and it was already started to get crowded. All the booths were filled and about 50% of the dining area were seated. There were 5 of us, so the hostesses put together 2 tables for us. Server came about quickly and got us our drinks. Then, food was ordered... and it was a little of a wait as there were many tables before us were getting their food. The portion of the plates were huge, and all the sides we ordered were delicious. I got the Country Fried Steak with sweet potato fries and fried okra. Steak was ok, a bit on the salty side to my liking, and my sides are good. Hubby ordered some kind of steak medium-well, with blue cheese on top. It came a little more like medium-rare. He said it was ok, but felt the cheese was a little too much and took away the flavor of the meat. FIL ordered a turkey dish with stuffings, he enjoyed his dish very much. In fact, he ate everything on his plate! The kids went for the hamburgers from the kids menu. My son said burger was delicious, my daughter ate all the fries (only) ;p. Felt a bit rushed by the server towards the end, because the place were starting to get more crowded and folks were waiting to be seated. To-go boxes came, the ticket came while we were still eating. My daughter is a slow eater, so she was still eating way after the boxes and ticket came to our table. I totally understand about moving customers in a timely manner, but I felt a tad bit rushed towards the end. It was like "hurry up, pack your leftover and go!". haha.. oh well. It is a very busy place. All in all, I would give this place a try again. But probably not in the near future. I like home cooked meal, and this place sure reminds me of that. The price on the menu really can't be beat, as the portion is really big! My FIL found a restaurant he enjoys, so I know we will for sure be visiting again on his next visit. read more

Finally made it to WCD for breakfast...trouble was making up my mind...sweet...savory...sweet...savory...i hate making decisions!! My carnivorous side finally won out and I decided to clog my arteries with the meat lovers omelet. For $7 It said you got an omelet with sausage, ham, bacon, and cheese...along with cheese grits and your choice of bread. You can substitute a fruit plate for the grits. I was expecting a lot of egg and a little meat for $7. Wrong!!! For starters...this omelet could have fed a linebacker...it was huge and had so much meat that it had spilled out of the omelet onto the plate...well flavored sausage, chunks of ham and nice smoky bacon. Only had cheese on top, which was a little disappointing to me...only'cause I love cheese. Egg was perfectly cooked. Got a huge biscuit which was nice and flaky, but absolutely cold...which was really disappointing. Served with butter and apple butter, which was good (even if it was in one of those little square individual packs by smuckers). I love apple butter and have never been given it in a restaurant before. Fresh would have been even better tho! I could only eat half the omelet because of its size...but I sure wanted to eat until my eyes glazed over. However, I saved the best for last...I am picky about grits and rarely order them out...but figured what the hell...their shrimp and grits are good. Anyway...I dont want those pale, thin, watery, pasty-white, flavorless glop that they pass off for grits in most restaurants (even supposedly Southern restaurants). You know the kind... The grits that no amount of doctoring can save and that explain why people who have only experienced "those" grits cant understand why southerners love "real" grits. Grits should be thick (NOT to be confused with lumpy), they should have texture, they should have a definite hint of corn flavor, they should take a half hour to cook...they should stand alone and just be IMPROVED with butter, salt, and cheese...not require them. These grits delivered...they were perfect and I could have eaten a vat of them and died happy. My grandma would have been proud!! Now on to the next table (ok, I was shamelessly eavesdropping). They went for sweet...one ordered the sweet potato pancakes and the other ordered the French toast...I smelled it coming before I saw it...smelled amazing. They got enough to feed the rest of the football team. Judging by the fact that they said little but kept making embarrassing "yummy" noises (and this was a very conservative looking older couple)...I will definitely have to go sweet next time!! read more

The Diner is typical fast paced Diner and at times can get very noisy for an infant. Service here has always been great as well as friendly. Its best to come for an early lunch or an early dinner as this place is always packed and sometimes has an hour wait. Reservations are not accepted either. Food here is typically delish no matter what My Friends and Family have ordered with a few exceptions. My favorite would be Blackened Red Snapper with Lobster sauce and grilled Asparagus. Salads are always fresh. My least favorite would be the Lamb burger which was so over bearing and over taken with seasoning that there wasn't a shred of evidence that the lamb ever existed. Very unfortunate to someone who eats and love's Lamb. I also had the misfortune of ordering a Oyster (which I love) PO'Boy. The juice from the fried oysters and the juice of the tomato made for a mushy consistency. If you're Italian I can tell you that the Calamari appetizer is cooked to perfection here. I don't get the very few negative reviews about this place. I read them before I went and was cautious. Of course there are plenty of POSITIVE reviews. BUT, I found EVERYONE to be extremely nice and accommodating. The food is delicious. It's a busy diner with a bar. They have wonderful vegetables, which a lot of places have gotten away from real vegetables. The only downside is they put pork in almost all of the beans. I wish people in Atlanta could find something besides pork to season their vegetables. Their desserts are homemade and delicious and NOT over-priced. The entrees were $8 to 12ish in price range. If I had one complaint, it would be that the place is usually pretty busy... but that's because the food is so good, people just keep coming back. Considering the options in the corridor, a minor miracle. But still absolutely within the winning diner framework -- a modern, updated one. Tucked away behind a Walgreens on the corner of strip center, the walk up is not lights-out. And the interior is merely contemporary muted browns and blacks in a big open dining room that really is pure diner, so not too much of a show there either. But that is OK as all the action in on the menu. A big, big eclectic menu featuring tons of veggie sides (in fact the 4 veggie plate ($7 !!) seemed very popular and a straight diner classic) and tons of specials -- which they seem to post religiously and daily on their Facebook page. Ahem. I said, Modern Diner, didn't I? Rolling in for a late lunch, early dinner on a Sunday, we didn't know what to expect other than everyone was hungry. Thankfully a nice selection of apps promised some quick help. Went with fried pickles ($5) and the black eyed pea cakes ($6), one familiar and the other not. True enough the pickles were your basic dill chips competently fried up, but with a home-made tangy mustard sauce that was really different. And for completely out-there -- the black eyed pea pancakes, three big thick ones on a plate, slathered with smoked tomato jam and cilantro creme fraiche. Guarantee some New South something is getting $15 for a smaller, inferior version of this inventive number. The jam folded a kind of concentrated BBQ element into the earthy cakes, and the cilantro kinda bounced along on top, almost an Indian/Ethiopian flavor profile. Fans of different, this is your app. Otherwise, there is an Applebee's across the parking lot. Entrees did not lack for options, especially with what had to be 15 specials and several more special veggie sides. We wound up going with three of them -- blackened snapper & scallops ($18), chicken fried chicken ($11), and the fried chicken livers ($10). Odd man out was the turkey and brie sammich ($8) with raspberry mayo on ciabatta, which was really good but underscored that the specials are the play. The snapper arrived on a giant plate, with an ocean of creamed corn and several spears of asparagus hanging on for dear life. The fish was firm and fleshy, if with maybe a tad too much butter in the prep as is common, with several Cajun seasoned scallops offering strong, spicy support and -- wonder of wonders -- big sweet hunks of lobster lobbed into the mix. Just a very tasty, hearty dish for seafood fans that would be even better without mid-winter asparagus spears, which proved a little tough. Maybe sub bacony brussel sprouts as the default green? Next, the chicken fried chicken, mashed potato, fried squash combo was so effortlessly Southern that if you don't have an accent or love college football, you will after you eat it. I've lost track of the number of metro ATL joints which try to "re-invent" Southern cooking without ever learning to cook Southern. The pounded out chicken breast was crisp and thin, but not dry and stringy. And the batter stayed on -- hooray!, even as the unctuous gravy soaked in. The potatoes were straight evil, big yukons likely, and when scooped into the white gravy, a union no mortal can resist. And admittedly fried squash might not be everyone's gig, but it is hard to do it this well -- holds together until you bite it, is not all tough and bitter. But for pure diner mainlining -- the chicken livers lapped the field. OK, by definition REALLY not everyone's gig, but for those of us who crave them a couple times a year, no substitute. Here the incredible side selection really helped. Chicken livers obviously have a strong flavor, so you need some strong, yet contrasting sides to really make things work. Something else fried -- bad, bad idea. Enter the red beans and rice special side and the jalapeno cole slaw. The red beans coulda been an entree itself -- tons of Andouille, thick creamy beans, and plenty of backbone. The cole slaw was stupid brilliant -- just a basic Southern creamy, minced slaw prep with some jalapeno thrown in for a kick along with some carrot for sweet. Perfect complement to the earthy livers, which were lightly battered and seasoned, hard fried and served in a basket which held about a bushel. Cannot recall the last time a needed a doggie bag -- I needed one. You always do at a real diner. What else do diners have? Desserts. Rotating ones. Went with banana pudding, coconut cake, and chocolate cheesecake. It is really amazing anyone is still upright. When I read that back, I think -- how? Only nit is that the coconut cake was a little desiccated, probably as a result being in the cooler all day. The thing is, the burgers looked amazing, as did the salads, and the price point is beyond fair. Kinda glad I don't frequent this stretch of Hwy. 120 much -- I'd haunt the place. read more

This has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in Marietta. I have dined here about 12 times and really enjoyed every meal. Only once or twice has the service been a little slow. The vegetables, burgers, salads, and entrees are all just very nicely done. Great Southern food with a nice contemporary twist. When I'm not dieting, their pecan crusted pork chops with blueberry chutney is just amazing. Great food, affordable, and mostly great service. The pimento cheese burger was outstanding! It is large enough to feed your family so plan on splitting it and getting extra southern sides.
