Yikes this location is pretty bad. Let's start with the really bad: 1) cash/check only. ATM available but it only dispenses 20s and charges 3$ to use it, which is the price of the bagel. 2) no seating at all with signs saying not to eat at the counters 3) the store is pretty dirty/ old and is very much not inviting 4) there were 5 servers behind the counter with very little space so they were running into each other and obviously stressed out by it. None of them had any patience with customers and just overall seemed really unhappy to be there. Also for some reason they dip their salt bagels into the salt sideways?? So the bagels have salt on 1/2 but it's not the top half. Pretty weird. Ultimately the bagels are all okay but definitely not by any means great. Just go to a different location. read more

I said I just wanted it toasted, barely cooked the damn thing, and she automatically put cream cheese on it to charge me extra. The Western Bagel has perfected the bagel, yet this location is still getting the customer service. I have been coming here for years. I come for here for the bagel not the bagel-getting experience. I have noticed the experience get worse. Alongside the Sars-cov-2 outbreak, I am sure the fine people inside are upset people coming are in for a less than essential bagel. Yet, they are sort of rude. This young man with the buzz cut, especially. Despite this I will come to Western Bagel for as long as they are open and hope they will remain open. I gotta have the Jalapeño bagel. ALSO: They do NOT ACCEPT CREDIT/DEBIT. I do not know if they have had problems in the past with cards but in this fast-paced space age we live in, I am bothered to use the ATM machine, be charged a fee, carry coins in my pocket, write a check. Oy Vey! I found the bagel place that won the west. Western Bagel! I've been going to this place since my dad and grandpa started to bring me here on Sunday mornings. Back then, you could only get bagels. No cream cheese, no breakfast items and no coffee. You'd walk in and immediately on the right was a wall with a window with bagels baking in the oven. In amazement, I would gaze at the window feeling the heat blast through the window warming my agape face. Back in those days, when ever a kid came into the store, they would give you a mini water bagel. These days, they now sell them by the bag. But, one thing has never changed, their bagels and bialys are good. I was in this area and decided to bring back a bakers dozen home with me. The lady that helped me was very nice. I also ordered a chocolate chip danish for the trip home and a breakfast sandwich to have before I hit the road. With all of that, the total cost was $19.22. Of course, back when I was a kid, something like that would have cost about $5.00 but then, that was in the black & white days! Environment is clean and customers come and go quickly. Parking is limited but generally there are spots. TIP! CASH or CHECK ONLY! They have an ATM inside but they do not accept cards!!! ---------------- Bottom Line Many types of bagels. A Los Angeles classic, perhaps the only bagel in the area that comes close to achieving that New York bagel perfection. This is the original factory, and despite the trek that you'll no doubt need to make, it is well worth waiting in the (cash only!) queue to get the fresh bagels in the mornings. The employees are friendly, the prices are fair (roughly $12 for a baker's dozen), and they have a good selection of in-house cream cheeses, and of course a wide variety of delicious bagels. Parking is a bit tight, but it's an industrial/residential area so you can park on the street if you need to. And if you forget your cash, there is an ATM on site. And yes, they have lox! I've had this place on my Bookmarks for years now, but never got around to it because it's in an area that I never have any reason to be go to. Behind the plaza that this bagel spot is in, it's industrial looking, and the small street coming up to the main street/side entrance is shady- I was driving behind a car and they stopped, pulled over to one of the homeless people's tents, and I saw the tent's occupant get something dropped off or give something to the driver. I'm pretty sure it was the latter. Not a safe street coming up, I almost missed it while using my GPS. Anyways, the place doesn't look very.. polished or appealing from the outside. There's enough space in the lot to park, but it was around 9pm so not sure how busy it is during the day. Once I went in, I saw a couple of fridges full of different cream cheeses and drinks. Cream cheeses were pricey- at that pricepoint, I'd be disappointed if they weren't homemade or organic or something.. I went up to the displays of bagels, the lady asked what I wanted, and I chose 3 different ones because the bagels just looked... sad and not too appealing for the hype that they have.. Pumpernickel - Chewy and had the characteristic flavor. Would get again Onion - Chewy, didn't have enough onion flavor for me. Would not get again Everything - Chewy, probably the best one I got. Would get again I think bagels without toasting them or any cream cheese is $1.50, and from there the prices shoot up even for just a plain toasted with plain cream cheese. All in all, I wouldn't come back here again. I've had better bagels from prepackaged ones from Ralph's that I toasted myself for way cheaper. read more

This has to be the Worst western bagel location in all of socal! Which is a shame since its a main factory and its open all night. Ive given it many chances just to be let down time and time again. From now on, ill only go to other locations especially the one in northridge and burbank , perfect locations, never had any complaints. Unless your buying plain bagels here i wouldnt order anything else, they use way less quantity (cream cheese, turkey)than other locations and its a shame. I really enjoy hot roasted turkey with egg and cheese on a warm bagel, at all other locations they'll have hot turkey out since 6-7am ready for BREAKFAST, but not this lacation! U have to wait until 10:30 -11am . Might as well just get lunch at that time! I went in today at 10:45 am craving the turkey bfast sandwich only to be dissatisfied when i received my sandwich, 1 small slice of turkey lost in egg n cheese ( i had to open the bread to find turkey in middle of bagel) i asked why such small portion of protein that didnt even cover the bagel just the center. Of all the Western Bagel locations in Los Angeles, this one is my favorite. Open 24/7 and remember to bring cash. Employees are very sweet, helpful, and go above and beyond. For instance, I came here the other day and ordered an everything cheese & jalapeño bagel...there was one left in the case but the employee took the time to go in the back and bring me the freshest bagel I've ever had. I was in heaven! Warm, cheese melting it was so fresh and with their amazing cream cheese...I could eat that every day!! Their cream cheese is perfect. Traditional is my usual go-to but mixed berry or strawberry is delicious on a blueberry or plain bagel. They are the place that the bagels are made so if you want the freshest REAL bagels made as they should be, well, it would be hard to find a better tasting bagel on the west coast. Of course, this is my personal choice; I love the onion and long bialy, but for a bit of weird I'll ask for a couple of jalapeño bagels. Bagels are really good. Didn't appreciate the reduction in size of the bagels. Reducing the size of something doesn't work with food portions because you need to either buy 2 now and eat and pay for more. I hope this isn't a trend in big bagel. read more
