First time here and it did not disappoint. Our waiter Ryan was awesome. We started off with appetizer of Three Little Pigs Sliders and our waiter Ryan even shared the story of how the dish got its name. I had the salmon - that came with ancient grains , dried cranberries, feta and squash - and it was very good meal. My friend got the double double burger came with white cheese , mustard aioli and comeback sauce and soft yummy burger buns (I took a bite ). Ordered the Whiskey Cake to go and let me tell you it did not disappoint, if it tasted good being reheated - imagine how delicious it would taste having it at the restaurant. Since moving down here 7 years ago my wife and I have found this to be our favourite restaurant for planned dates and the random spur of the moment dining choices. It is a place we have taken many of our out of state friends who want a great meal with good atmosphere. The staff has always been great and the atmosphere, while often very packed, has still been one where we could relax enough to enjoy a meal out. Almost everything we have ordered we would do again. There have been a few misses here and there, but they have been far and few in between for us. The fact that the menu is being rotated out here has its positives and negatives. It means that sometimes we lose an item one of us has really enjoyed (for my wife it was the Beyond sloppy joes), but there are always new ones that come up that we get to try for the first time. read more

I really really like this restaurant. I think they strive for a super high quality, upscale but still casual experience with a really interesting diverse menu. They had not recorded the change I had made to our reservation over the phone earlier in the day -oops on the manager - but they accommodated us after a short wait. Our server on this day was excellent - we were on our fourth day of a meeting and he made solid recommendations to some tired, indecisive people. One consistent sour note for me though - for EVERY delivery to the table, each appetizer, entree, etc delivered by anyone other than our server (which was most) we were subject to what I call the "auctioning off" of the plates. "Who had the duck? The duck? Did you have the duck here?" and in a group of 17 along a long table that gets incredibly old. 3 different runners would start on our end asking about every plate. Serving 101 - assign the diners numbers to be able to deliver without disrupting everyone every time. This was over the top annoying. Servers at Denny's get it right and it should never happen at a better restaurant. WC you can do better. And no - for the 5th time - I didn't have the duck!! read more

First time here. It was awesome. I highly recommend it. Bit on the high price but well worth it. the whiskey cake is their signature dessert and it was delicious. The ice cream wasn't that good to me. It wasn't vanilla but it did have a familiar taste to it. We got there around 6 and around dusk they started dimming the lights and lighting candles. Biscuits and gravy - the first time I got it, I assumed it would be two biscuits. No, it's FIVE biscuits that have a kick from the jalapeño. Delicious and great value for the price. I've ordered twice. Fried green tomatoes - huge and the remoulade sauce is so flavorful. They also reheat well in the oven or airfryer if you can contain yourself from eating all of them. Life is full of lessons. Going to dinner on Valentine's Day with a group of 6 always requires reservations. It is always a good idea to get reservations when going to dinner the day before or after with a group of 6. More importantly when your running late always have at least one party check in with the hostess so you can retain your table. For some crazy reason restaurants want to make a profit and they need to turn those tables quickly. So holding a table for late shows just isn't something that's in their best interest. Having said all that we did arrive 15 minutes late and they were still able to accommodate our party and seat us. Nicely done and appreciated. Having to wait almost an hour or longer for you food. Not so nicely done. Having your order brought out to you the first time incorrectly - not so nicely done. After everyone else has begun their meal, and your 2nd "correct order" meal arrives medium rare instead of medium well. Not so nicely done. By the time yours arrives and most everyone is done you reach a decision point - send it back to have it cooked right - and delay then whole party who by now has been seated over an hour and a half - is a difficult decision to make. Perhaps letting everyone leave while you sit alone finishing your meal is an option - it's not one I chose - instead I ate what was brought. And have to say was not real happy. Oh well - next years Valentine's Day will hopefully be different and will definitely be someplace else. read more

Let me start off by saying I came here for Sunday brunch during quarantine and they were doing a great job adhering to COVID guidelines. The servers were friendly and the vibe was fun. The main thing that I wasn't impressed with was the food. I decided to order the Farmer's Breakfast which comes with two eggs, bacon and jalapeño biscuits, sweet and spicy cherrywood bacon, potatoes, and jack cheese grits. The eggs were pretty standard, the potatoes were undercooked (a bit hard), the bacon was tasty (they put syrup or honey so it has that sweet and salty effect), the grits were good as well but they gave you like two bites worth, and the biscuits were a bit disappointing in my opinion. Lots of people like this place so maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. I'm a believer in second chances so I'm hoping to be impressed next time! read more

Quick to acknowledge us and quick to bring us our tasty food! THE MOMENT YOU'VE BEEN WAITING for: I ordered the Chicken And Waffles ~$14 A conventional large-sized waffle dressed with two/three breaded, crispy chicken tenders on top, accompanied by their special dippin sauce - forgot what it was called. But it tasted like a mixture of mayo, thousand island, and unicorn magic! The chicken tenders (breast meat) was light and and moist, and when dipped, still retained its crunch! The waffle was also freshly made with BACON BITS and the texture was perfect-o!!! My hubby got the Pork Chop & Grits ~$14 My oh my, where do I begin with this PORK wonder!? The chop was soooo moist, tender and smoky! What a unique pork chop! I do not fancy grits in any way, but I made the exception for this! It paired so well with the pork, and just BRAVO! Words can't describe how epic this meal was! Our server made sure to ask us if we wanted their famous whiskey cake, I already started shaking my head as he started his sentence bc I was full and satiated up to my throat! However, my hub did not want to miss this opportunity (& I am sooo glad my other half and I both have a gluttonous appetite), so he said yes, and our server brought us heaven on a plate. Went here for dinner last night with my wife and her cousins. The layout of the restaurant is nice and it's very big. The ambiance is great, you can go here just to have drinks and hang out by the fireplace or get drinks with their amazing food. For drinks I ordered the old fashion and my wife got the mango habanero margarita. The old fashion was very smooth and it was something to sip on while we waited for our food which kind of took a while but we were a table of 8. My wife's margarita was really good but I was expecting more of a kick with the habanero but it was more sweet than anything. For food my wife and almost the whole table ordered the OMG Burger. They all loved it and the only complaint was from my wife about the meat being a little too salty. I ordered the Switch Up which i believe is the burger or the week if I'm not mistaken. I don't remember all that was in it but the patty was really good, it came with some sauce that was different. Not a bad different but I didn't love it. Now for dessert we got the famous whiskey cake. If it's not famous it should be because that was probably the best cake I've ever had and I'm not a fan of cake. It comes out warm and they top it with whip cream and caramel. Overall great restaurant and we'll definitely be coming back. read more

It's a winning concept, with a succinct menu of colorful, creative interpretations of American staples. The local board, listed as an appetizer but large enough for a meal, represents the Whiskey Cake philosophy best. Piled high with sweet, smokey, house-cured beef jerky, smoked ham, Cheddar sausage, several cheeses, a ramekin of pimento cheese, honeycomb, wholegrain mustard, grilled sourdough, and a variety of crisp veggies pickled on the premises, it ranks among San Antonio's best options for charcuterie. At only $16, it's also a tremendous value. A rotisserie chicken sandwich gilds the lily with a chunky avocado spread, basil pesto, melted Swiss, ripe tomatoes, leaf lettuce, and peppered bacon.
