Took a group of 6 for a office holiday lunch and I would rate the food, service and over all experience as "meh". We were seated in the "viking" room. I think we would have rather had a table in the main room... This room needs work...table is too big for the room, there needs to be a table cloth, and a lazy-Suzanne on the table. No one could reach the S&P put at the center of the table without standing up and reaching. The server put all the appetizers in the middle and it was comical to see people try to get at them to share. Our server was knowledgeable but had zero personality. We ordered appetizers to share and they were OK but really not great. Two plates of the chicken skewers; each plate had three very small skewers with a terribly dull ancho mayo on the side. Two plates of the sea scallops wrapped in bacon w/ an apricot sauce on the side; each plate had two skewers of 4 small scallops on each skewer. The apricot sauce was tasteless, it's like they just opened a packet of that sauce you find at the bottom of the Chinese take-out bag..., and the bacon was flabby. The presentation was unimpressive especially considering the $15.00 price tag per plate. On the plus side for the appetizers, the shrimp cocktail was good - 6 very large shrimp presented nicely in a bed of ice with a good cocktail sauce on the side. And the calamari was very good too. Nice presentation and good quality, though they should bump the size of the cocktail sauce on the side by at least 3 times. And they should 86 the ranch dressing served on the side with the calamari, it was unnecessary - save that for someones salad.
I had the lunch special of the Parm crusted lemon cod and that was OK, but unremarkable..it's not like "OMG I HAVE TO GET THAT AGAIN". 3 folks ordered the tenderloin tips, each person wanted them done a different way (one rare, one med, one well done) and when the servers brought them it was a sad joke to see everyone passing the plates around until the correct meal was in front of the correct person. Same with their sides - the server was handing them to people without a clue who should receive what, our waitress wasn't around to direct the servers on who ordered what, and obviously she didn't give them a clue as to who ordered what. So the passing of the sides continued until everyone got their selections. Very odd, and quite unimpressive to watch. One person ordered the burger special of the day (stuffed blue cheese). He said the burger was good but there was way too much "stuff" on it (shred lettuce, tomato, onion) and it was a hot mess for him to eat. The fries he received were limp. And one person ordered the lunch serving of the prime rib, w/ mashed potatoes, and said it was excellent.
Desserts were good, but again, not OUTSTANDING. We ordered 5 different desserts, some 1/2 size, some full size, for sharing.
No liquor (sadly this isn't the 70's any more so no more drinking at lunch since we had to go back to work), and no one ordered any beverages. Final bill was $305 before tip.
Last year I took everyone to Redstone in EP for our holiday lunch, and I think all in all that Redstone was a better experience; better holiday atmosphere, better menu selection, better food, better service.
I'd go to Wildfire again, but not for a special meal, and not if I'm the one selecting the restaurant. Not a terrible experience, but with so many other places that are available why go back? read more
