We can't quite figure out why, but every time we are in this store we are greeted with rude/disinterested customer service. Everyone is impatient, and generally very unwilling to assist especially in the event of a return. We were registered with Williams-Sonoma/Pottery Barn for our wedding and have visited multiple stores in each chain over the last year, and this is by far the worst service. Every item I have purchased forthe past 25 year, I have been satisfied however something is going on with management or morale of the staff, that is reflecting their customer service. The staff seem overwhelmed and tired. I don't get that happy feeling, I used to get when entering the store, in particular during the holidays. We reluctantly returned because they carried pots and pans my husband wanted. We happened to have an appt. at Apple store which is very close. So we went in. It was like a different store. We were immediately greeted. Someone was available to serve my husband. They answered all his questions, bring out the products and allowing him to look at them. We were so impressed we bought what we needed and had the ship what they didn't have in stock. The shipped products arrived quickly. One item was not what my husband wanted so we returned to the store. Again we were treated with respect and the found exactly what my husband wanted (plus a few extra gadgets) Treating all customers with respect and kindness goes far. We were rudely told by an older woman, we aren't serving coffee. The funny part is we just got done sampling it in the previous store, so we will likely buy the machine from another place. Their curbside pickup is definitely one thing I really love about this William Sonoma. Because their parking in this mall can sometimes be a bit hard to find. Who'd thought I would be thanking covid for something but I guess this is the one good thing that they added due to this horrible pandemic. Just order it online and pickup curbside to avoid shipping fee. I bought the creamy tomato pasta sauce. The quality is amazing. Most their sauce in store are very tasty and you really can't find it anywhere else in that good quality. I've arrived! Sin City for cookers, the Toys 'R' Us for Chefs Anonymous members. It's the flagship Williams Sonoma of the West Coast... the Costa Mesa store! It's where you can buy fine china, kitchen knives, Meyer's lemon ready cake mix, sea salts, non-stick pans and garlic presses, while being handed some fresh made southwest chili in a paper cup smaller than Dixie. There's a mob of three. The peppermint bark crumbles are being reached for like manna. I smell traces of apple cider. I'm tempted to sign up for a Sunday cooking class, but I stay focused, remembering that I'm here to pick up books. Today was the "Bouchon Bakery" book signing and Williams Sonoma managed it as perfectly as Thomas Keller manages his kitchens. Staff in front of the store to direct you to will call/book pickup. Two staffers managing the outside line along with two mall security members. A person at the front of the table handing your books to authors Thomas Keller and Sebastien Rouxel while introducing you to them on a first name basis. Another staffer holding your camera so that they can take your picture with the authors. Thomas Keller saying hi, signing boldly and beautifully, and bridging that sometimes awkward can-I-get-a-picture gap by asking before you do, "Would you like a picture?" A third staffer at the table collecting your finished books and handing them to you. Are we done? No! Upon exiting, another staffer loaded my hands with cookies. Why... why... why is the staff at Williams-Sonoma so unwelcoming? I'm a foodie, I love to cook and I enjoy beautiful and good quality cookware. I shop at Williams-Sonoma often and GENEROUSLY. Now, this is all despite the terrible service I have received 99% of the time I have been there. Today, I dropped into Williams-Sonoma to buy a salt block and salt block holder. An employee approached me and asked if she could help, I said "yes". I explained what I was looking for and she informed me that she wasn't sure they had any in stock but would check the back-stock. She used her radio and asked for back-stock to be checked then walked off. I assumed she was walking off to retrieve my item. While I was waiting for my item I struck up a conversation with an employee behind the register by asking her if she knew when they would be offering a cooking class using the salt block. The chef was standing behind her so she turned to him and asked if he knew... he shrugged his shoulders and moaned out an "I don't know" without even looking up at me. The lady then turned to me and told me I'd have to refer to the class schedules on the easel outside of the store. By now 15 minutes passed and I set out to look for my sales rep. I found her chit-chatting with a co-worker near another register. She kinda looked shocked when I walked up on her. She then immediately blurted out... "no salt blocks with holder in stock". So, I told my husband to only purchase the salt block scrapper and we'd make our salt block purchase at another cookware store a couple of doors down. When paying for the scrapper the lady at the register asked my husband if someone had helped him. My husband told her "yes", my wife helped me find this item as your associates were unable to offer us any kind help whatsoever today. The lady at the register didn't inquire as to the comment or apologize. I have spent most of my career teaching customer service skills to Fortune500 businesses who valued their customers. It amazes me that a company like Williams-Sonoma that caters to customers with high customer service expectations could offer such poor customer service. read more

I came to this store a year ago to buy some wedding gifts for a few friends of mine that all decided to get married in the same year and during the year, after the last gift had been purchased, I reluctantly let them put me on their mailing list for sales and specials. Since then I haven't felt the need to visit because their mailing lists and frequent emails always advertised off-the-wall items I could never see myself using on a regular basis and these would be items like an abelskiver pan. Seriously, who makes abelskivers everyday or frequently? I surely don't. I don't even cook. But a few weeks ago, I got an email about a book signing. I almost tossed it because like I mentioned earlier I don't cook so why would I need a cook book? But I do watch the Food Network and salivate over the food and secretly wish I could cook or had the patience to cook so I was pretty excited when my favorite Italian chef was going to be nearby and doing a book signing - Giada De Laurentiis. The event was very well organized. It was limited to 500 people so you had to visit the store to get a ticket or call in. I arrived shortly after 1, found parking near the Sears (you can always get parking there), and hurried over. I was surprised that the line was out the door and around the building but it went really fast. In the process, I made a friend in line and a great networking connection (I love how I can network just about anywhere I'm at), got to sample some stuff out of her new book (Williams Sonoma prepared some choice recipes - a soup, some chocolate hazelnut cookies, and a pumpkin bread). They also served water and offered bags and shuttled the line forward so that you weren't stuck waiting for a while. I really give them credit on a well organized event. I guess it's easy to plan an event when you're on the end like that you can take up a lot of space. Other than that, it was closely guarded by South Coast Plaza security staff and if you kept your ticket you could get lunch at Lawry's next door. Giada herself was an angel. She's short in person which I never imagined and the fans were able to take pictures but at a distance. The event ran longer than possible but I'm looking forward to other events. They're pretty tolerable here plus you get to sample some great stuff in line. I give WS kudos on a nicely planned event. read more

Been here multiple times with no help, having to seek out employees who are unable to answer questions about store merch. Today was a success though! Finally found a kitchen gadget for removing jalapeño seeds -- we have tried so many methods of removing seeds from jalapeños and end up having to soak our skin in milk to lessen the tingle of the heat. This gadget is curled like a helix and you turn it to scrape out the inside of the jalapeño. Hopefully this will work well for cooking jalapeño poppers! Also found a natural wooden handheld citrus juicer made in Poland I think :) Crossing our fingers that these work well in the kitchen! read more

My rating is based on poor customer service. I asked one of the sales associates if they had any flexible (aka bendable) spatulas. She looked at me like I had asked her a scientific math question and she gave me an attitude. I rephrased and said to her something made out of silicone. She told me yeah they do somewhere over there. I said can you show me because I don't see any. She walked me over with an attitude. I thanked her after she showed me and decided I wouldn't buy anything there given their service. This took place on January 10th in the afternoon. Asked if it could be shipped to the store instead but salesperson check with supervisor who told her no. Can only order online and have it shipped to home with shipping fee. I was thrilled to find nice things on sale and placed a couple online orders for store pickup. They filled my orders super fast, and I was very impressed. I had never been to this location and have to admit that i was very confused about where to go, especially when the mall was closed, confusing curbside pick up signs for William sonoma were seen at the underground parking structure and again at the mall entrance, and I was given wrong instruction by the security to wait in the parking lot. So I called the store again because i knew the first associate had said to come to the front of the store, Which was open, but the mall security said the store was inside the mall and the mall was closed. So i decided to call the store to clarify. The 2nd time and the 3rd time I called, it went to another associate who first kept me on hold for 5 minutes and never returned, and then the second time hung me up. I guess she went to look for me? But both times? Both times she said "One second" and gone. Didn't tell me that they had looked for me. 15 minutes later I finally reached the first associate, this was the 4th time I called. Since I was at the underground parking lot during my first phone call, I could not understand her direction. This time i was at the street level parking lot, It made more sense. Her response was pretty strong though, that i was not at the right place, and doesn't matter what other associates said SHE had told me clearly where to go, Which made me feel sorry that i wasted Their time since it takes me 4 phone calls to find the store. I understand miscommunication happens, and i do not mind waiting, asking around on my own, or apologizing for my confusion. I definitely needed help to know where to go but did not feel helped by the team today. This location is so much better than Mission Viejo! They had an item on hold overnight for me, even though they normally don't hold items that long. (The MV store made a major screw up and the staff at Costa Mesa did their best to make it right and help me.). This location is conveniently located a couple doors down from Crate & Barrel, so if you find parking just outside Crate & Barrel you can get in and out within just a few minutes. They have a single line for the cashiers, which is nicely marked, so you get assistance quickly. The staff was friendly, and with their radio system, my held-item was brought to the cashier in no time. Even during the holiday season, I had an efficient and easy trip to the mall! Only negative is that WS's online inventory is incorrect. So when I called and was told CM had 5 of an item, in reality they only had one. I placed an online order for Croissants for Christmas morning. I called their Customer Service Center to get info on the delivery date and time. Don't get me wrong, I still love you William Sonoma (WS). I just have a beef with your knive sharpening service from a 3rd party. Why? Because of my experience. It all started with visiting WS website. https://www.williams-sonoma.com/pages/store-events/store-events.html?cm_type=gnav It states: "Bring your favorite knife into your local store and our cutlery experts will be happy to sharpen and hone it for you using our precision professional equipment. The first knife is free; additional knives are $5 each." I don't know about you, but the way I interpret this sentence it sure sounded like if I brought one knive, it would be free. However, when I went to the store it was $5 for my knive. To add to the insult, they charge $0.39 tax for a total of $5.39 for a non-tangible, service good. So I took it to Facebook and private messaged WS's page. Their PR team corrected me that it was $5 for second knive and there after, if I had more than one to sharpen. Oddly enough, that isn't what it said on the website above. Also, I was also told I would get my knive back in about 4 days and it took a week. (Actually 6 days to be exact as I got the phone call the night before) Now, quite honestly I am not mad over $5. Not mad over the tax that doesn't make any sense. Not mad that it took longer. However, when I received my working chef knive (That only costs $25), it wasn't sharpened well. I ran my finger next to it and noticed jagged sides. So for my 9 inch knive, it had 2 sharp inch, 2 dull inch, 1 sharp inch, jagged parts, and some dirt. For what I saw back, this was ran on a black stone (Maybe a portable sharpener) because I saw residues that wasn't cleaned off. I also saw marks an inch and a half above the blade perhaps the furthest it can go where the knive was resting. Nevertheless, the blade wasn't cleaned at all post sharpen. Well, post almost sharpen, slightly jagged in my case. So for products and classes, I would still come back. But don't bring your knive. read more

Absolute worst customer service I have ever received in a retail store. I was helped by a middle aged gentleman with short dark hair around 5pm on Monday 6/14 who was extremely sassy and unapologetically rude. I explained that I was told to come pick up my in-store pick up order that I had placed earlier that day and he said actually it's not ready and there's nothing he can do to help me. Had he shown even the slightest bit of empathy or given an apology for his coworker wasting my time by telling me my order is ready when in fact it was not and would not be ready that day, it would have made all the difference. I'm echoing what is already posted here many times. The SCP store is poorly managed and the employees seem to take their cue from the store manager. WS has lost me as a customer over a $7. mistake on their part. It's not the $ but the principal since it was their mistake. WS has a history of telling you something is in stock, taking your money and then later you find that it's on back order. The worst part is, they don't tell you it's on back order. You find out when you're wondering why you haven't received a shipping notice and you go to your account orders and it states back order. No notification letting you know! I received Christmas mugs that have a gold trim and under the mug states it is microwave safe. After heating water in the mug it made the microwave malfunction with sparks and I burned my hand holding the handle of the mug. I called the store which referred me to customer service. Customer service was unhelpful stating I needed an order number to exchange or return it. I feel it is rude to ask the giver for a receipt or an order number. She is an excellent listener. She tries to understand what it is that I'm not even saying because I'm unable to even articulate it at times. She is really, really sweet. She never ever makes me feel pressured to make a purchase. She's always prepared and organized. She's efficient. She doesn't waste my time. Was excited to shop for my thanksgiving day feast. Dropped $450 on a sous vide machine, bread mixes, dinner napkins, spices, potato ricer, roasting pot & cookie cutters. Why do the very people who are supposed to make visiting a pleasant/fun experience so unwelcoming, unhelpful & cold? Especially Diane, older woman with long hair I tend to avoid... she especially I had this air of arrogance & seems to be always in a grumpy mood. Most of the sales associates walk around without a smile, they are short in their answers when you have a question, not to mention condescending in their tone when they speak! I was patiently waiting in line to check out and the aroma of something baking was making my mouth water so I leaned to the side and asked a woman with salt & pepper hair what it was. She didn't even look up as she was putting them in little paper cups "Pumpkin Bread" in short breath, like it was the dumbest question she'd ever been asked. Pause, pause, pause.... "Well, do you want one?" In such a patronizing tone. Wow I was more than a bit taken back. However I said "Sure, thank you". She never looked up, she was not bothered. No hello, no thank you, no goodbye. Nothing. When someone is asking a question have the common decency to look them in the face & try not to act so obviously snotty. I'll continue to shop there bc it's one of my all time favorite stores and spend generously each time. I used to have a beautiful four burner grill that was perfect to make pizza but like most things after a divorce, I had to downsize to a Weber three burner grill (My friend James D though bucked the divorce downsizing by leaving one marriage for another with a gorgeous younger Latina who is also a lovely person inside. He's everyone's next marriage hero). The Weber gets too hot for pizza, even turning two burners off, so what to do?? Enter an email from WS with $50 off the Breville Crispy Crust Pizza Maker! Being a pliable email marketing responder, my millions from the Nigerian Prince are arriving any day now!, Mini-me and I visited the palace of Williams Sonoma at South Coast Plaza. Thankfully, the store had the pizza display right at the front so it was easy in and easy out access. The energetic and helpful worker even offered to bring the product to the pick-up area but as I told Mini-me: "We are men! We carry the heavy sh*t to our cars." (No, I did not use that exact word). Mini me just rolled his eyes embarrassingly as I knocked over dozens of wealthy SCP shoppers when I lumbered triumphantly with my prize to our car. The device is very easy to use, very easy to clean and the initial pizzas came out very good. Adding in a couple of bottles of wine (no, mini-me was long gone by the time we made the pizzas so he missed the slightly buzzed singing off key and dancing like a white dude Sidney) this was an excellent way to spend a Saturday night and a great alternative to yet another expensive meal out. Before going into how Awesome Williams Sonoma is, I must take you on a quick detour. Shun's are one of my favorite knives of all time. I own a Santoku and everything cut like room temperature butter, until lover used it to cut cheese. That and lets just say we were shun noobs. The other day, I noticed a sale on Shun Nakiri's from WS online and just had to get it. After all the waiting and excitement, I finally took it for a test drive on our new chopping board. The first couple of cuts into mincing tomatoes felt like heaven, but after the 3rd tomato, I felt quite a bit of resistance from the Nakiri. I realized, it was already dull! Mad that such an expensive toy was dull already, I took the Nakiri to WS and asked if an online purchase can be returned in store. After a bit of explaining, they exchanged my Nakiri and ordered me another with no qualms. They did not bat an eye and apologized the entire time. I even asked what if the second Nakiri was still dull, and one of the employees said it wouldn't be a problem to return. With impeccable service and quality products, I'll definitely be back in the future. read more
