Feeling lazy to cook on a Friday night and Win Garden came to rescue! Came for a lunch special a few days ago and had such a fantastic meal along with a very pleasant dining experience! We were very please with the food arrived on time with the delivery service! This is such a convenient service for a Chinese food place with 1.Eggplant with chicken and prawn is amazing. The shrimps, chickens and eggplants were perfectly cooked with its special tasty sauce. This is my favorite! 2. Honey Walnut prawns. Had to order two! Haha. This is another must have plate. My super favorite! 3. Prawns with sweet peas- Very refreshing dish and the peas were cooked perfectly as they were crunchy to eat. I don't like soggy vegetables. 4. Asparagus with honey walnut sauce- ok. It's a bit too sweet to me. Had to try as yelper raves about this dish 5. Chinese broccoli with garlic. Perfect 6. Kung-Pao chicken-yummy! It is surprising, yet they are hard to find, which is crazy because we are in SF right? Anyway, just thought I would try Win Garden after not going for years and forgetting about it. Just ordered: Korean Chicken Wings - amazingly good, crunch, flavor, spot on, juicy, well cooked Salt and Pepper Prawns - also very good, great flavor and fresh Orange Chicken - spot on, really good crunch yet juicy, great flavor Fried Rice - really good mix and nice fresh BBQ Pork Buns - soft and fresh nice pork filling It was all really good. Next time I'll order more vegetable based dish. This is our new go to for local Chinese food. They are only doing take out, but they are doing that well! If you should find yourself in Glen Park without a car (perhaps working on a project in the library, like Dread Pirate Roberts) and don't feel like climbing the hill to the excellent dim sum place in Diamond Heights, then by default Win Garden is your Chinese lunch spot. And it's not bad at all. There is an unusually large lunch plate selection, including a number of meatless items (not vegetarian but "meatless" as in "meatless Kung Pao chicken"). You get house egg drop soup (typical specimen) and a small salad on a plate with your rice and your entree. I had the garlic twice-cooked pork and it was fine. You have to ask for hot sauce or soy sauce. Chopsticks are the Korean skinny metal kind which only work for me when copious amounts of beer are on hand; I had to resort to my fork. It's a pleasant, clean room and was busy at lunchtime but with good service. The actual food is three-star compared to other spots in SF but I'm bumping it due to the general lack of negatives. read more

Came here to take advantage of the lunch specials. Good list of food options and very fairly priced for what's included. Entree plus rice, soup and a little mixed greens salad all included in their lunch specials. You can upgrade the white rice to brown rice/chow mein noodles for $1.50 which still ends up being pretty reasonable. We were especially surprised at the number of veg options on the menu. The meatless chicken is surprisingly good and one of the better versions I have come across. Their other tofu/veggie dishes are also good. Service was fast and friendly. No frills. Clean place. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor and texture. My usual order: crab Rangoon (always crispy and freshly fried), meatless Mongolian chicken, and steamed mixed vegetables with black bean sauce. I've tried the regular Mongolian beef and a few other dishes like the dumplings as well. Just as tasty and I'm addicted to the extra chili oil and black bean sauce that come with my standard order. This place is just a short drive from my apartment and it's become my go-to spot when I have nowhere else to go. They're open fairly late compared to other restaurants in the area and offer quick, relatively inexpensive takeout. I always get the Mango Chicken which has a really nice gravy and nice sweet chunks of mango. It also has some pieces of red and green bell peppers and onions. I also usually get a Thai Iced Tea which they pack really well so it doesn't spill in my car. My mom's also tried the tofu version of their mango chicken and seemed to like it. Their menu also has a decent number of vegetarian options in general including soy-based alternatives to many of their dish so I'd say vegetarians can also give this place a try. All in all, a pretty decent late night takeout place and I look forward to trying their many other dishes during my future late night trips. read more

We had BBQ Pork Fried Rice, Chicken with Mixed Vegetables in Garlic Sauce (which came on the side), Spring rolls, BBQ pork bun, hot and sour soup, and edamame (requested by my daughter). Sadly I want to give this place a better review, but my experience with them has not always been great. 1) The food is wonderful. So the disappointment is not with their food. (Although there have been 2 occasions the food has arrived late and cold) 2) The communication is awful, and on a few occasions they have been very rude and seemed annoyed when all that was being asked, was an estimate of when we could expect food. (I promise I'm not an a-hole - but I did work in restaurants for over 10 years - so communication and customer experience is something I value) 3) Delivery is inconsistent. I've had a 50/50 success rate with them actually delivering, bringing the wrong item or being over 2.5 hours for delivery. The dining experience may be better when you dine in (at least I hope so) My challenges have fallen around the delivery portion. I continue to go back as I love their wonton soup, but the last few times have been consistently disappointing and well, not worth it in the end when you have an entire city full of incredible asian cuisine. Only 1-2 other parties dined in when we were here, but don't let the empty restaurant discourage you from eating here; it just means faster, more attentive service for your group! We ordered: -- pork BBQ appetizer: he enjoyed this, but commented that it didn't have the crispy edges he's used to. -- avocado egg rolls: lots of black pepper flavor, generous portion of ripe avocado, nicely fried wrapper -- beef fried rice: he was delighted by the beef bounty, I kept having to push pieces aside. Sufficiently flavored, perfect with our saucey entrees -- eggplant in spicy garlic sauce: standard, but what was unique were the bamboo shoot slivers -- loved that! -- sesame chicken: tender white meat chicken, perfectly fried exterior (not overly fried, crunchy without hurting the roof of my mouth) -- dragon beef: thinly sliced fried beef with onions--we liked! It was takeout night. Chinese was calling my name. Henry's is our usual go-to for Chinese delivery, but they don't have crab rangoon. I decided I really needed crab rangoon, so that meant ordering elsewhere. After a little research, I decided on Win Garden. Crab Rangoon. Veggie potstickers. Sesame chicken. Sweet & sour pork. White rice. I wanted bbq pork fried rice, but it isn't listed on their grub hub menu for some reason. How did it measure up? Not so well. The crab rangoon was the best thing on our roster. Crisp & tasty, w the filling the right consistency. It was thick & not runny. They're more like crab pockets rather than dumplings, w the wonton ends pinched together & the filling in one lump only in the middle. How about distributing the filling more evenly? So you get more bang in more bites? But, that aside, they were cooked well & tasted great. The veggie potstickers were mediocre at best. The mushrooms were slimy to the point of my actually mistaking them for fat. Not good. The sesame chicken. Bland. Bland. Bland. Pass. The sweet & sour pork. Same. The lack of flavor in almost everything was remarkable. The only component that the sesame chicken had that it's supposed to were the actual sesame seeds. Sad. They did arrive at the time quoted.
