Popped in today for lunch as I was in the neighborhood for work. The ambiance is nothing special at all, so don't go there for a nice date. That said, going for lunch/dinner is recommended along with takeout. I ordered the Mongolian Beef over steamed rice and enjoyed it! I liked the flavors and texture. I ordered basil chicken over ten times. One of the reasons I keep coming back. The last two time I ordered basil chicken it's a stew slop like dish similar to general chicken but I never got basil chicken that way. Portions are small and the taste/quality are just not there. We ordered combination chow mein, combination fried rice, honey walnut prawns, Mongolian beef and potstickers. The pot stickers were the best Mongolian beef didn't look good and to me but had lots of flavor but didn't taste right. Prawns had barley any of the sauce on it and was a very small portion. Staying at the AC Hotel Oyster Point with a bay view is quite spectacular. Being hungry isn't. I didn't feel much like heading out by Uber, to/from, so delivery seemed to be a great option. Thus, Golden Moon enters the picture. Using my handy-dandy app, Grubhub by Yelp, I selected a couple of choice entrees, and it was delivered to my room in about 50 minutes. 1. Black Pepper Beef Fried Rice [$9.25, 2.0 stars] -- looked and smelled great; but gristly beef made it just passable when picking them out. 2. Butterfly Shrimp with Bacon [$13.95, 4.5 stars] -- large portion, and at first I was like, "Oh my". Then, when the bacon was floppy and limp, I was like "Oh". Then, I had a few bites, and kept going, and going. Then, I was like, "Oh my Gawd". They also lose a half star for ignoring my comment of: "Chili paste, plate", of which, it did not have. Don't let the 3.5 stars fool you! This place is by far the worst!!! THE WORST Chinese food I had! We ordered 3 dishes via online "grub hub" and it indicated rice was included for in the "specials" section but it was not...or perhaps they forgot! Mongolian Beef: all you taste is black pepper flavor. The beef was not fresh.... It was chewy and stringy Sweet & Sour pork, where's the pork? It was just fried batter with small pieces of what taste like left over, almost spoiled dried pork. General Tao chicken, Not sure what byproduct they out in there. Did not taste like chicken or maybe there isn't any chicken & fried batter. If you think my review sounds nasty .... Because it was! I fed my trash can the entire order. Price was extremely affordable..... I guess it's "you get what you pay for". And that this was a convenient location but no more. I'll rather drive further & pay more for edible food! Had the large Westlake soup today. When they say large they're not kidding. That was the biggest bowl of soup I've ever seen or eaten. I think when they say large they mean family because the waitress even tried to offer me a smaller bowl. Somehow I finished it but I was a sweaty mess by the time I was done. It was boiling hot and I think there's white pepper in it. Anyways it has cilantro and I think ground pork and green onion and egg white drops (?) and some kind of broth. This is my go-to restaurant for Chinese takeout in the Daly City/South SF area. I usually order from them through Grubhub, then they use their own employees to deliver. This means you can't track the order on the app, but my order has been 100% correct every time and always arrives ahead of the expected delivery time. Major props to Golden Moon for that and for keeping me from getting hangry! Orders chicken fried rice, tofu with Shitake and zucchini, potstickers, and green beans with chicken. Fried rice and potstickers were great! Unfortunately, the tofu and chicken stringbeans were not good. Stringbeans were over cooked and tasteless. Don't know if they were old and had to deep fried again. The chicken was okay with the sauce but the combo of stringbeans and chicken did not work. Too much oil. GM was my go to neighborhood place until today. The food isn't bad and they have free delivery which is a big plus! I ordered food today, placing my order with the regular lady that answers the phone (very heavy accent) and repeated my order. Picked up my order and upon opening it at home, it was incorrect. Called the restaurant and explained to her that my order was incorrect. Nicety gave away to insisting that's what I ordered & she'd repeated my order back to me. She did repeat to which I corrected and it sounded like she'd gotten it correct. She finally offered to make the change but I'd have to pay a difference. The difference was .65 cents. I was so done!! How petty is this?! You make the wrong order, I have to go back to pick up the correct one and you want to charge a difference of .65 cents. Always ordered delivery from this place and they have never disappointed. This time we were in the vicinity and decided to eat in. Parking isn't a problem if you park on the cow palace side and don't mind sprinting across Geneva lol. Otherwise the restaurant side is usually pretty packed due to the neighborhood. We came in late evening and the place was empty, however there were plenty of customers walking in for pickup orders. Inside was nothing fancy, a tv and a few tables. Phone was busy with orders. There were four of us and we ordered several dishes. Service was very friendly and the food came out hot and lightning fast. I wanted to try out their Bitter Melon Beef in the Combo since bitter melon is great for people with diabetes. I don't have diabetes, but bitter melon gets its name from its taste - even as a kid I hated dishes with bitter melon and would deliberately take them out of dishes with my fingers. As an adult, I'm more knowledgeable about nutrition, and I wondered how "tasty" it was. Well, I ordered from doordash with a doubledoordash for fruit smoothies & slushes at Tea Plus Tea Bar (next to Sweet Delight Dim Sum Bakery on Mission St.). The Bitter Melon Beef dish was promptly delivered, still hot, well prepared, and the dish was tasty. I added soy sauce to the bitter melon so I could get over the bitterness. The soy sauce improved the taste. The soft beef plus the soy sauce drenched bitter melon slices meshed better with each other and the fried rice. So I would recommend just adding a mild sweet soy sauce like the restaurant provides OR a japanese soy sauce like kikkoman, kimlan, etc. Also, drinking fruit smoothies WITHOUT OR VERY LITTLE SUGAR improves your nutrition & digestion [there's a lot of nutrition in plants that aren't cooked](if you don't have any fruits on hand) and improves your eating experience. And if you're studying or doing heavy mental activity, drinking matcha smoothies really boosts the state of your mind as well. read more

I found out recently this restaurant was taken over by new owners about 7 months ago. It's deceiving that the previous ratings would apply to them. I really liked the old owners and thought their food was great. And given how local they were, it was so convenient. Golden Moon was once named Ng's Restaurant, which wasn't bad at all. They should rename the place and start over. This new food is really done poorly. I really hope they turn this around. Until then, my preferred go to will be B&W Kitchen , Dumpling Empire, or Hing Lung Cafe. All are within 5-10 mins away. read more

No no & no... ordered several combo meals to go. After we arrived for pick up we find out that there is no soup or egg roll with the combos on Sundays!? Ok fine. No biggie. However, after we got back to our work venue with the meals, I opened mine to see that it was practically ALL RICE and hardly any of the actual entree. Which we might have been ok with had there been a decent ratio of meat to veggie but it was about 75% veggies. So at the last minute our dinner plans fell through. Since there's not enough time to thaw something from the freezer, we ordered delivery. We first tried Egg Roll King but they said they only delivered on weekends. Well ok, but shouldn't you have posted that on your FB and website? After a Yelp search. We landed here. Ordering was painless enough. I ordered through their website. We had egg rolls, pan fried seafood noodles, tomato beef chow mein and sweet and sour chicken. Yeah its chinglish food so what? Egg rolls are good. It came crunchy. Pan fried noodles were good too. Not so much gravy that it will make your noodles mushy. Tomato beef chow mein is as expected. Sweet and sour chicken is ok but I think they over cooked it because some parts were down right dry. Our total order was $30 and we got 2 cans of Coke for free. Delivery took an hour but it's ok because our place is sort of hard to find. At least the food was still hot when we opened it! Portions are good. They filled up the take out box. This is some of the best Chinese food I've had in San Francisco. Price is Right. It's really clean tasting, not too oily, salty, or goopy from too much corn starch. And the oil that is there always tastes clean. Everything they serve has an absolutely delicious wok seared flavor... Except... ...Dont order at dinner time. They are really busy and it seems like they are forced to cut short the amount of time the food spends in the wok to turn out more orders. Without the wok seared flavor the food is definitely more like 3 stars. Honestly my 5 stars is probably a bit much. However their 3.5 star overall rating is too low. So I am trying to balance this out. And I've only ever done takeout. No delivery or dine in. When they are on, they are on and I would definitely give 5 stars when they click. My favorite dish is actually the pork chow mein. They really pack a huge portion into the container. It comes free with orders of 2 entrees or more. But it has to have a dark sear on it from the wok. Good value for their lunch specials! Their sesame chicken is pretty yummy, it's the only item I've repeated so far. I've ordered delivery from here several times and have had different experiences. They have always gotten my order correct, but delivery times vary. I've had them deliver as fast as 25 minutes and one occasion where it took over an hour and had to prompt Eat24 to check on the status. On average, delivery has taken about 40 minutes. I've never dined in here, so this review is limited to their delivery service. Word to the wise, don't order the Thai iced tea, it's not made to order.
