Haven't dined at Winston's in a couple of years. Usually one of my favorite North Raleigh lunch spots. This was an early lunch Reservation this time, and I left with mixed feelings. The service was great. Our server, even though I felt like she was new there..got the job done. She was very accommodating, and friendly. The food is what left me disappointed. Salads were great. However, the weird Italian/tomato take on shrimp and grits came way to soupy, and shrimp were small, skimpy amount of shrimp , and over cooked. My dinings partner's pork chop had the same tomato sauce on it. He thought it was on the bland side, was not the medium temperature he requested...More well done. I understand about the staffing shortages of late, but I probably won't be rushing back. read more

Wanting to go somewhere special for our 19th anniversary, brought us to Winston's. Located on Falls of the Neuse, in front of shopping center where Metro Diner is. We had been by many times and it always looked busy so we made reservations for dinner. We were greeted and sat right away. The ambience is really nice with booths that are oversized giving a sense of privacy. There's an open kitchen with bar stools to dine at as well and separated into several rooms. Service was impeccable, my water glass was filled unobtrusively. I ordered one of the specials, the salmon Oscar which came with beautifully presented asparagus on top of mashed potatoes and a Caesar salad. 5 stars for food and service. Would rate 4 and a half if I could. The creme brûlée was fantastically decadent with a butterscotch filling! My deduction for the Star was upon visiting the rest room. It needed attention and is a pet peeve of mine, and hoping future visits will see an improvement. read more

Hubby and I came tonight for our 30th wedding anniversary. Very romantic! The lights were dimmed and adding to the ambiance was the big band and cabaret with a splash of 70s soul music. The restaurant serves American fare with a twist. I had the shrimp and grits and I normally focus on the tazo sauce but this time it was the extras like the bacon and mushrooms. Different and yummy. Hubby wasn't very thrilled with his calimari...termed it as just ordinary. But dessert was delish! We both totally enjoyed the Bananas Foster! Five stars for dessert! I came here with a friend for dessert after an event. The venue is spacious with a classy, romantic vibe. They seem to offer a very wide range of foods as I saw one couple order a pizza, there was a sushi roll on display, and the lady next to us had roasted chicken dish. I'm definitely willing to come back for dinner. But we're here for dessert, right? First of all, don't ever skip dessert here, especially if you like ice cream (I mean really tho, what kind of person doesn't like ice cream? Or skips dessert, for that matter?!) Anyways, they make their own ice cream and offer a whole host of yummy flavors. I do wish they had a list of the available flavors rather than having the waiters recite it; my brain can only process but so many list items at a time. We shared a banana foster with 1 scoop of Cinnamon and 1 scoop of Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (Yea, I'm convinced they heard I was coming and decided to put the best of all worlds in one scoop *drools*). The banana foster was delicious and just the right amount to share. But that ice cream tho! How you put peanut butter AND cookie dough in an ice cream without making it too thick? The waitress was super informative, personal, and attentive which made for a great experience. The food was good but generally just average. I'd say the chicken Asiago was great but a special, and the vegetables had no seasoning on them, probably the most bland veggies I'd ever had. The French dip didn't have a ton of meat on it but was good none the less. The sweet fries were GREAT and seasoned beautifully though I'll say. read more

O-M-G! I didn't know Winston's has a vegan and vegetarian menu! It's so hard sometimes being vegan, especially after 7pm. I've began to eat at the same routine locations throughout RDU. I've never eaten at Winston's until today and, again, O-M-G! Their vegan menu has three items: Garden Roll, Vegetable Stir Fry, Chef's Veggie Bowl. I ordered the stir fry and garden roll (which is a sushi roll) for dine in. I also ordered the veggie bowl to-go. It was all really tasty and filling! I can't wait to return. Also, shoutout to our server Chiquita and the manager Jamar who were so helpful and inviting. If you're vegan, check them out! I have no idea about the non-vegan menu, lol read more

BAD experience. We've had good experiences at Winston's in past. Last night was NOT good. We'd have been better off at home than paying for an unpleasant evening. We were hosting guests. I was embarrassed and apologetic to our guests. SOUND: In reservations I'd requested a table in a quiet area. We were seated in a crowded area where sound bounced off the walls. Music was loud and people talked louder to be heard over the musc. I could barely hear the waitress, nevermind our dinner partners. By evening's end my throat was sore from talking so loudly. BREAD BROUHAHA: Table settings included bread plates. After ordering I asked if they'd bring us bread. The waitress said, "We're totally out of bread. We had some large groups and they ate up all the bread. More is in the oven, but it will be 20 minutes at least." No apology. It struck me that this is a management issue; This is a restaurant with many years experience with large groups at high-traffic times. This was inexcusable. The booked reservations should have given them a heads-up on what might be needed. That includes having enough wait staff to handle the reservations; Waitstaff were run ragged. FOOD QUALITY: Encrusted Salmon was good, though the accompanying veggies were bland and tasteless. Ribs were excellent as well as the fries. WAITSTAFF: Poor experience; I've had better experiences at Denny's Granted, the restaurant was VERY crowded, but management had not prepared for the number of reservations. After being served, we did not see our waitress again until my husband and I had finished our meals. Waitress cleared our plates while our guests were still eating. We felt rushed, as if they wanted to turn the table for the next seating. BEVERAGES:Typically, I'd order wine, but waitress never checked back to take wine orders. I was disillusioned and just wanted to leave. BOTTOM LINE: Will I give them another try? Nope. There are many other restaurant choices in Raleigh. read more

Love this local spot. The staff all know my parents since they are regulars. I can't visit Raleigh without stopping here. Yummy brunch, home made ice cream and great salads. Before your entree arrives you can get some delicious muffins or bread. The bar and spots under the red lights are first come first serve if you don't want to wait for a table. What an absolute delight she was! She was the icing on the cake, making sure we were well attended but not overly interrupting, always a happy face and she had a great sense of humor. Very outdated place, menu-wise, interior-wise, and over overall vibes. We dropped $50 for a prime rib and single side, which was more lackluster than a Texas Roadhouse or Outback prime rib. Temperatures for the menu items were also lukewarm. Service was also disappointing. I made a reservation for a birthday in our party, and they never even acknowledged it. I describe Winston's as upscale casual - It is always busy and food is good. However, it can get a bit pricey as a weekly or semi-weekly dining experience. $20.00 for a salad that doesn't fill you up just isn't ideal , especially now. I will go back - just not as often. read more

Each dish was delicious. Service was good. Not great, but good. Food was great though. I like a medium rare steak. Not rare. Not medium. MEDIUM RARE...and yet somehow the servers often only hear the former or the latter, not as a paired description. This server did catch that and, bonus, so did the kitchen! Salad came two bites before entrees, so low marks on service there and once I have handed you my credit card to pay, I should not have to wonder if you have run off with my card to do a quick spree at the local boutique because it is taking so long to get my darn bill back. I love this place. I know that I will usually wax poetic about my favorite places, but there is no need with Winston's. There hasn't been a dish yet that wasn't completely satisfying and worth every penny. The bar is gorgeous. The staff are all polite and friendly. The specials are usually so mouth watering you'll want them all. I recommend the Hob Knobbler for a house drink. The Winston is also tasty. The pork loin will bring tears and their steaks are a best kept secret. The prices are all reasonable for what you get. The atmosphere is charming with private rooms available for large parties. It is a great date night place or for a girl's night out. You really can't go wrong with Winston's! read more

If I could give ZERO STARS I WOULD I did not eat here but my wife did and I cannot believe the things that happened to her and her friends. One member of the party arrived and asked for a table. She was told she could be seated in the restaurant but had to be out of the table by 6:30. They were arriving after 5:00 and this was unacceptable, so they were seated in the bar. After sitting and ordering around 5:20 the waitress said you only have this table to 6:00 and then you must leave. Hold on if 6:30 was not enough time 6:00 surely would not be ok. It's 5:20 and the food hasn't even been brought to the table and you are telling a party of 3 that they have 40minutes before they have to leave. I will never eat here, does not matter the quality of the food, which I will not even discuss in this review. Here is tip for you Winston's don't put a time limit on paying customers. You may come back with they did not have a reservation then tell them they don't and they cannot be seated. Again I was not there but my wife experienced this. I say good day. read more

This is not an enjoyable review because I wanted it to be better. I had read/heard good reviews about this restaurant & after living near it for 7 years, thought we try it out for a special occasion no less -- our daughter's 18th bday. What.a.fail. Sat in a room that was really too dark to even read the menu (unless you were sitting underneath one of the ceiling spot lights). The waiter walked by at least 4 times with a "how is everything" but never once broke stride. Ordered the sesame tuna salad which was a huge disappointment -- drenched in sauces, at least a 1/2 cup mound of large slices of pickled ginger sitting on top of the salad. Couldn't enjoy the freshness of the salad never mind the quality of the tuna b/c of all the sauce. (we ordered other items on the menu & they were all just ok -- nothing exciting) A positive? The temperature inside was nice. I'm always worried that it'll be over air conditioned which, during our visit at least, wasn't a problem. Totally comfortable. Another positive -- lots of varied menu options which is good for a group as were the different rooms & longer tables for larger groups. All in all, the inside was nice & clean. The outside patio looked nice -- there were tables dressed but no one asked us our preference ... do they even seat people outside or is it just for show?? I have dined here before many times, and frequently bring new employees from our Company here on their first day of employment. But today I decided to bring my daughter with me since she has never been. We were seated in the back section of the restaurant and after 20 minutes of not even seeing a waitress, we left after 30 minutes of sitting without even a water glass placed on the table. It was also an odd experience when we first walked in, there were three hostesses at the hostess stand. The one to the far left, stepped out and grabbed menus but said nothing to us. The one in the middle just stared. Finally the one to the far right greeted us and asked us how many in our party (2). Then the first one walked off with a menu, I assumed to lead us to our table. She seated us and not a 'someone will be with you shortly', 'have a good day', or anything. There were waitresses moving around our table and we tried to make eye contact. And on at least 2 occasions a manager came out, and cleared tables around us while we sat for 30 minutes with our menus feeling completely ignored and insignificant. Unfortunately, at 6 feet tall, it's hard to make someone like me feel invisible; but they were successful! Very disappointed in the service when trying to take my daughter some place for a nice meal. read more

Service was excellent, the atmosphere was great, this is a very upscale restaurant. The crab cakes were delicious. I wish they put more fruit relish and Cajun remoulade sauce on the crab cakes. The black and bleu salad was really mediocre. The blackened chicken lacked flavor and it tasted soggy and rubbery like it was microwaved. The salad also lacked bleu cheese and had too much white crunchy ice burg lettuce. The best part of my meal was the dessert. I was really surprised when the waitress brought the plastic dessert tray to my table I don't remember the last time an american restaurant had all there desserts replicated in plastic. Honestly it made me feel less hungry, but I ordered anyway and the key lime pie was absolutely delicious. This was one of the best key lime pies I have ever had. read more

LUKE IS LAME!!! Came in today with high hopes and the food was outstanding. The seared tuna was the best either of us had ever eaten. Both salads were top shelf, every ingredient fresh and nicely presented. Lastly, the bottle of wine we ordered was truly delicious. All the amazing food aside; server Luke did his best to dash a lovely meal against the rocks of COVID infected reality. He was simply a terrible server. He was awkward from his initial greeting to the uncorking and pouring of wine. Whilst we were ordering our entrees he completely turned his back on us and walked to a nearby table to gather condiments for other guests. He failed to offer pepper for our salads despite a huge grinder setting on the aforementioned table. Luke never asked to pour us more wine, not once. The final fumble was to stand right next to the table (apparently to get us to leave) saying, "I need you to sign the bill now as my boss wants me to show a trainee how to cash out." LUKE IS A TRAINER?!?!? If that's true, Winston's is in real trouble. read more

My wife Mary Beth Martinez and I went out for dinner for our four year anniversary. My boss at work recommended Winston's Grille. My wife really liked the cozy atmosphere and the great service. We had drinks at the Bar then we were seated to our table. Our server was Maria and she was outstanding. I had the pork chop entree and it WOW ed me. Very Very good. My wife had the salmon entree and she was very happy to try this. We will go back for sure. We are going to go try the Brunch on Sunday. read more

Disappointing dinner evening. I took a friend for dinner at the restaurant for his birthday. We ordered special Filet Mignon of the day, but was served the normal fare instead of the special. We ordered dessert for two, but was served dessert for four. The waitress was inept and incompetent, and didn't even know what was in their menu. Though the front desk knew and confirmed several times that my dinner companion was the birthday person, the waitress failed to recognize that and didn't provide any special birthday dessert. I fault the management for hiring inexperienced wait staff and not training them. The meal was expensive, and we received poor service. And to top it all, the food was ordinary, not exceptional. They ran out of 2 of the 3 things we wanted to order, even though we had called ahead for one. Screwed up just about everything they possibly could... no need to go into details. However, instead of comping something, even just the deserts, they made up excuses for just about everything they could and more. This is not the level of service I would expect at a restaurant at this price point. While the waitress was nice, she either didnt communicate all the troubles to the manager, or the manager simply did not care to have return business. read more

Had a lunch meeting today at Winstons and I must say, I was impressed! As we were walking in we were greeted by every staff member we walked by. Super friendly and superb staff. I first heard about Winstons grill on yelp. My girlfriend and I were looking for brunch spots and ran into this place. I have to say I'm very pleased with my visit to Winstons grill. Had great service, and quite delicious food. We received complementary blueberry muffins that were delightful. I ordered chicken and biscuits, which were absolutely delicious.
