Our waitress was friendly and knew enough about the menu to let me know if particular items had dairy. We didn't wait long for our food, maybe ten to fifteen minutes. I ordered a salad and side of soup and the bf ordered orange chicken and a beer. The portions were huge! We felt we could have maybe split one entree and got a soup or salad on the side. My salad had SO much chicken on it I was impressed! We were on vacation so we couldn't take leftovers so we tried our best to stuff ourselves. Good thing there's a lot of walking in downtown. Visit here on a Friday night, I had been here before but it has been a few years since I've been to this location. Downtown Los Angeles has been growing, so wanted to come back and visit the area. Parking was $10 next door and the garage closed at 1 AM. We went around 9:00 pm and was seated immediately. There's always a lot of people standing outside of the restaurant, because there's a bus stop near here the building. Overall very safe lots of people around. Our service name was Lawrence, he greeted us immediately after being seated. He was very nice and attentive, pretty quiet guy overall. We ordered two drinks Jaded One and Wokano Pear. The jaded one was right up my alley, it was cucumber with vodka it was a very refreshing drink . The Wokano Pear was very good to the use lychee and it was in a form of a martini . We also ordered an appetizer (monkey brain) two different rolls, and the honey walnut shrimp. One of the things that I suggest is ordering things waves at a time. If not your food will come out all at once. The monkey brain was pretty good! Nice name for the appetizer it definitely looks like it could have been monkey brain, but it had avocado, spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura. Started with steamed pork dumplings which weren't too bad, then our main dishes of Mongolian beef and sweet/sour pork. Mongolian beef was DELICIOUS! Great portion and man abundance of scallions- which to me, you can never have enough. The rainbow roll was decent. Great service- especially from the food runner. Seems like drink and food presentation is more on the minimum side. While the cocktails were super yummy, the basic garnish made them look a little sad; we also got a little chuckle out of the very random American flag garnishing our plate of dumplings. I'm finally writing a review I've been coming to Wokcano for years and the downtown location for about 6 years and I'm really surprised and relieved that they've finally decided to diversify the restaurant today was the first day I've ever seen a African American woman working here and since I'm also black African American it felt really nice to finally see a black person. This afternoon I decided to eat here for lunch. I went to the Restaurant website : https://wokcanorestaurant.com/. I was then transferred to Chownow to complete my order as you cannot complete an order through the direct restaurant website. After ordering and walking into the restaurant. I asked for my order. The hostess then told me they did not have my order in the system. I then realized my order was set to the next day 2/4/23. There's no way ill be in downtown tomorrow. The hostess brought out the manger. I showed her my receipt for payment and the chow now confirmation. She then told me that there was nothing she could do and that I would need to get in contact with chow now. In my head its as easy as zeroing out the order for the next day and giving me my order today but I guess that was out of the question. Anyways after getting into contact with Chownow. The Chownow representative explained that wokcano has gotten paid for the order and for me to ask them to just make the order as I had a receipt for payment. I explained to her that the manager gave me chow nows number instead of offering that option which is commons sense. I told her that i doubt she would be willing to do so. The chow now rep then calls the location to verify if they would be willing to just make the order. After calling the manager the Chow now rep tells me that the manager was reluctant in making the order even after talking to a chow now rep. Very inconvenient to me and unwelcoming given the fact that i was paying customer. Chow now then assured me i would get a refund on my money. I then reordered through another website Ritual that charged me 2$ more for my order. I mean I could have placed an order through the hostess but they weren't that welcoming given the fact that they could of just remade the order to begin with so I was left with no choice but to order through ritual. To me this isn't a Chow now issue because Wokcano is the place of business that refused to accommodate its paying customers Wokcano refunded me my money also Wakcano chooses to use Chownow to conduct its online orders. Let's just say this Wokcano location ie hostess/manager needs more training in customer service as this was an avoidable inconvenience given the fact that Wokcano restaurant website transferred me to Chow now whose site placed the order the following day. I WILL NEVER PATRON this business again. Terrible first experience!!! The Worst customer experience EVER and mediocre chicken teriyaki with DRY Hunan spicy chicken. I ordered takeout and they forgot to include sauces for the chicken teriyaki, yup just cut up chicken breast . I called and asked them to deliver the sauces because I live 10 minute walk from the DTLA location, and there was no true customer service. The girl at the front who i specifically asked about the sauce at pick up said "all the sauces are in the bag". Only to learn the opposite when I get home . Asian fusion with an amazing happy hour. It's a chain but the quality of food is great. I love that they have delivery as well. I love the variation you can get here.
