We were in the area for lunch and were able to order and get seated right away. We weren't the only people in the restaurant but it wasn't super full. They seem to also get a good amount of takeout orders. You order at the counter and once you are done, they help seat you, unless you are doing takeout. There is a small waiting area with some seating if that's you. Otherwise, you can seated with a number so they know where to bring the food. We thought the food was overall very good. Nothing greatly stuck out to me, like in a way to make me always want to come back....but I do usually live around the main SGV area, so asian cuisine is aplenty for me. We came by for brunch and ordered off the special brunch menu as well as their Sense Coffee drinks pop up menu. Won has beautiful interior decor and only indoor seating available. There is a parking lot right at the restaurant and we were lucky enough to find parking there but there is also free street parking in the area if this is full. Ambience is very casual and there is a small side parking lot a couple stores down and some street parking as well. The food was decent, but pretty pricey considering the items we got. I got to try three plates: the signature beef noodle, garlic gai Lan, and the bao bun. The noodle texture is great, though a little too salty in my opinion. The bao bun had a large piece of delicious pork belly in a bao bun with pickled cucumber and vegetables, that was very delicious, even with the large pork fat from the belly. The gai Lan is Chinese broccoli boiled and fried with garlic and sprinkled with sesame seeds. That was alright, nothing to write home about. I'd come back to try some of their other dishes, and to have the pork belly bao bun. It cost roughly 40 including tax and tip, and shared with a friend- but was still hungry at the end. Our friends live a few blocks away so we decided to walk over for dinner on a rainy day. Upon arriving, it is a order at the cashier first then sit down type situation. it is a self serve in getting your own water, to-go boxes, etc. We ordered the fried rice, beef noodles, scallion pancakes, chicken wings, tofu, and a couple of drinks. Food was alright. The part that gets me about this is the auto 20% for large parties. Understandable when at a traditional restaurant with traditional service, but for one as such where you self serve your water and you pay at the counter and tip first.... Hmm...i did not know this until after our friends told us they were slapped with the 20% charge which really sucks because we were not made aware of this and we also tipped on our own tab. We were two groups of 4 and ordered/paid separately. This really puts a sour taste when you don't even get traditional service. I really don't like writing bad reviews, but I have to say something so other people don't fall into the same trap I did. Honestly, don't come to this place unless you are a glutton for a ripoff. Let me explain. I know this spot is super "hip" and a lot of Yelp friends love it. But realistically? This place seems designed for people who just want to be "seen"--mostly well-to-do Millennials and Gen Z professionals with money to burn. The prices for the mediocre food are actually insane. For example, they charge $16 for two pieces of thin toast with a tiny bit of syrup. For comparison, you can get Hong Kong-style thick toast (that's 3 to 4 times thicker) for like $6 at HK Macau Bistro. Then there's the Pork Belly Fried Rice ($15)--it was a tiny amount of rice hidden inside a massive bowl. Even the chilled cucumbers were a letdown; they tasted exactly like the pre-packaged ones from a grocery store, not like authentic Taiwanese food at all. Despite all this, the place is packed and buzzing on social media. The only good thing I can say is that the decor is very cool/hip. But parking is non-existent. The finale (it came last and worth the wait). I have always been a lover of rice cake/Tteok-bokkiki/Mochi so I am very picky when it comes to the texture of these type of dishes. IT BLEW ME AWAY. I've heard a lot about this place, especially from Camber. My partner and I actually came here back to back last weekend, once for dinner and then for brunch the following day. Woon is one of those places where it's good to get a few dishes just to share amongst your party. Are the portions small? Depends on what you order. The handmade Beef Noodles might not be as much as you're expecting, but the Bacon and Eggs Fried Rice during brunch goes a long way. I actually got so full eating my fried rice 2/3s of the way through that I had to ask my partner to finish the rest. The Bolo Bao look huge to me, and reminded me of a Chinese slider. My partner loves the Beef Noodles, and ordered them both times we went. I can understand why. You really can taste a difference between handmade noodles and store bought. Whether it's love, passion, quality ingredients, or a combination of all three, those noodles let you know they're not like other gurls. We always order the rice, chicken wings, beef lo mein, and pork belly bao -- and they never disappoint. Food - 3/5 In the San Gabriel Valley (SGV) where there's an abundance of amazing Chinese food it's tough not to compare but onwards with the review. I will say that I did order take out and do account for that with my review, but I don't think it would tasted much different had I ate it at the restaurant vs the less than 5min drive from the restaurant for take away. Some items are limited to only their brunch menu, so maybe I'll give that a shot and see if it changes my opinion about the food. Things we ordered: 5 spice chicken wings - 2.5 - didn't have much flavor, very dry and was over cooked which prob is why they tasted dry. Beef noodles - 3.5/5 - this was prob the best thing I got from the order and it was just ok. The noodles had a nice spring to them, but the flavors and cook was meh. Super oily very little beef included and it all sat at the bottom of the container sitting in all the oil. Just very oily which was very off putting. Wood ear mushrooms and bean curd stick - 2.5/5 - the wood ear was fine, but the bean curds were hard and tough to chew. Every experience I've had with bean curd both though my own cooking and eating it at other Asian restaurants is that it's soft. This was like they hydrated it and then somehow cooked it so much that it was tough to chew. It was almost like eating beef jerky. Pork belly bao - 3/5 - giving a 3 only because the cut of pork was generous and very tender. A bit too much fat and the bao was soft and fluffy. The size of the bao was HUGE which could be looked at as good or bad, but it was just loaded with way too much stuff and then the accompanying sauce was just really spicy. It was a lot going on for something that probably could be better. In this case less is a lot more. Scallion pancakes - 3/5 Another one of those over oily over cooked tough things. I get that since it's fried it's going to be oily, but I think because it was over cooked it just kept soaking up oil gai lan - 3.5/5 It's hard to get gai lan wrong and my only issue with this was it was super salty and the sesame seeds didn't seem to serve a purpose outside of trying to make visual presentation look better for a pretty no frills dish. Outside of how salty it was, it was just ok. Service - 4/5 Service was fine. Nothing spectacular but nothing bad to note either Ambience - 4/5 The vibe I got from this place made me feel like I stepped into Joy in highland park. Similar flow and setup except more decorations. Woon feels like Joy in the sense that it's decent Asian food for people who don't want to make the journey to the SGV or don't know where to go in the SGV or the menu seems a bit too exotic. It's a great option where you want home style Chinese food in an area that lacks a lot of authentic Chinese cuisine. read more

The star was honestly the pork chop sandwich inside of a pineapple bun. Genius. I'll be back just for that and to try some of their drinks. However, my review for the overall food at Woon wasn't as amazing as I hoped. The woodear mushroom and bean curd flavor was delicious but the texture of the bean curd was hard, especially in the center. The cook on the 5 spice chicken wings was good. The meat was nice and hot and juicy and the skin was very crispy. But, it definitely lacked the flavor and I wasn't able to tell that it was even 5 spice. I was excited to try the bolo bun sandwich, since bolo bao is a quintessential cha chaan tang food. The bun itself was very fluffy and moist, however, at the cost of the cookie "pineapple" crust. The toppings in the sandwich was enjoyable and different from what I've had before. Sadly, the most disappointing dish was the cold sesame noodles. The texture of the noodles were off-putting and felt chalky? I enjoy and expected noodles with some chew and bounce but my teeth kinda just sinks into the noodle. I'm now treating it like my neighborhood takeout or easy dine-in staple. The vibe is a hip laid back neighborhood joint with a touch of nostalgic old Shanghai. Service is attentive and observant, not overbearing. I genuinely hope they do well because they seem to have good intentions beyond the social media hype. Love the Woon in LA proper, so of course I had to make the drive up to the beautiful Pasadena to try Woon's brunch. It was well worth the extra drive. A bit larger than the east side iteration, Woon Pasadena had plenty of available seats inside. The food comes just as quickly here too. The chicken congee was great, maybe not the best congee I've ever had (RIP Porridge & Puffs) but it was pretty darn close. Eggy and savory, the dark meat chicken thighs are an amazing addition. The milk tea French toast I have been thinking about since we ate here last weekend. Thick, sweet, and delicious. Comes with two pieces of French toast so perfect to share. bacon & eggs fried rice was maybe my favorite though. The pork belly, particularly, was perfect. Again a very healthy portion to split amongst friends. The pork chop sandwich was probably my least favorite. Not bad at all, but there was a lot going on. I liked the chewy texture and the portion felt like a solid personal size. 2. Scallion Pancake - The dipping sauce was tasty, but the pancake itself was a bit too chewy and didn't have enough scallion flavor for my liking. 3. Gai Lan - Surprisingly my favorite dish of the meal! Perfectly crunchy with a great dried onion + sauce combo that really elevated it. 4. Mango Sticky Rice Ice Cream Bun - Personally would skip. It's fried, so a bit oily and messy, which some might find fun--but to me it was just okay. The ice cream is from Wanderlust though, so if you're a fan of their flavors, you might enjoy it more.
