This is a great spot for Sichuan-style food - exceeded expectations. The location is a bit sus since it's in a run down strip mall area but the interior is pretty nice. Went with their signature Yao Yao Suan Cai Yu (pickled fish) and it was great; flavorful with just the right amount of heat. The Soy Sauce Chicken was solid, too. Food came out super fast, which is always a plus.

This was my fifth visit here, and I came for lunch on a Tuesday with two friends. We ordered the live fish in spicy broth, and it was definitely the highlight of the meal--the fish was fresh, tender, and very flavorful. The BBQ platter was a little on the salty side for our taste, but still good overall. Service was just average, but I'd come back again for the live fish.

I came here a couple times and I am in love with their Pickled Fish soup! There is plenty of seating around 5pm but gets full around 6-7pm. They don't have a lot of staff working so if you go when it's packed, the staff won't be as attentive. My family I ordered the Golden Soup Pickled Fish, Sweet and Sour Pork, Half Roast Duck, Potato Shoots, Rice and Chengdu Ice Jelly. Everything was delicious! The fish is so soft and the soup is very flavorful! It paired nicely with rice. I've gotten the fresh noodles before but I prefer rice more because you can taste the soup more. The sweet and sour pork was crispy and appetizing. The roast duck was meaty and had a nice layer of skin. The potato shoots were aromatic and cooked to perfection. Lastly, you cannot forget the Chengdu Ice Jelly! It's very refreshing and I love the coconut milk and all the toppings in this dessert. Not only does their food look aesthetically pleasing, they taste really good! They have a wide variety of items to choose from. Next time, I'd like to try their clay pots!

Talk about restaurants with identity crisis... There are 2 restaurants connected offering totally different types of food... the blue side specializes in spicy Sichuan cuisine while the yellow side offers Cantonese grill and BBQ items. But you can sit at either side and order from both. You do get more options but for first-timers it can be a bit confusing. Food wise, they tasted pretty good. When you get to have 2 types of cuisines in one place you mix and match. From the Sichuan side we ordered the speciality spicy sauerkraut fish, string beans, and spicy shrimps. None of the items were really spicy, but flavorful. The shrimp dish came with fries... I am very certain fries are not part of Chinese cuisine, but I can't lie the fries tasted good with the shrimps. From the Cantonese side we got the Blackgold Char siew, the soy sauce chicken, the vegan chow fan, and clay pot rice with sausages. Again the food tasted good and the best part was the burnt rice from the clay pot. YUM! We got another order of the blackgold char siew as we do have a growing teen boy in the party that day. The place was buzzing and happening. And not surprisingly a bit noisy. I would have given them 4 stars if not for the service. The speed was a bit slow we got the char siew/chicken platter about 10 minutes after submitting the order through the tablet provided. We finished the platter and waited another 10-15 minutes for the next item. The rest came up more quickly but there was this very awkward period of staring at an empty plate... It took a while to get all the dishes, but they were rushing us and kept asking if we want boxes... no we are still eating. I understand there were many people waiting but let me enjoy my food in peace please. For that I downgraded to 3 stars. The food alone definitely warrants return trips.

Updating this review to 4.5/5! We went back and their service was top notch! Food came out quick and the staff was attentive and friendly even though they were quite busy. Food was just as good as previous visits.

Haven't been here for a while. Today we came, a group of 6, so we got to try more dishes. We requested less salt less oil, it turned out great. Their food sometimes tends to be on the salty side. The dessert we used to love was not as good as before, perhaps because it is close to its closed time. Will try the dessert again. Highly recommend.

This was my first time eating here and I really enjoyed it. The food was full of flavor. I ordered the duck dish, and it was delicious, but I'd love to come back and try their other dishes. The place has a cute, colorful ambiance that's very inviting. They even had a robot server, which made the experience fun and unique!

I was impressed: - nice bright clean ambiance - easy iPad ordering - no extra fees for hot tea and it's tropical! - loved the shrimp chive dim sum, it's made to order so be prepared to wait a bit - all shrimp and chives with a thin rice wrapper - excellent service - very warm and hospitable - um super rare and unexpected, felt almost other worldly - portions are average Pig ears are spiced nicely with some of the numbing mala. Could be sliced thinner but it seems that the Liang Village standard is NOT the standard. Lots of raw garlic - perfect for this immune boosting season. Pea sprouts could have been trimmed better - especially at $20 for a smaller portion. All in all, I would come back for the delicate MTO dim sum - I heard the siu mai is great!

Great food all around at Yao Yao. Their fish soup is amazing and full of flavor, definitely a standout dish. The fish is fresh, and the bbq pork and roast pork are both really well done and satisfying. Everything tasted comforting and thoughtfully prepared. This is a spot I would happily come back to and recommend to anyone looking for a solid meal. Highly recommended.

Absolutely love this place. The food was delicious. We had 5 people and ordered 6 dishes. The most memorable ones were: Beef Chow Fun- Absolutely can't miss with this. The flavor was excellent. Beef was tender. There was plenty of wok hay flavor, the flavor you get when you cook with an extremely high heat. Delicious. Stir fried pork spicy pork belly - Delicious. I would be able to eat heaping amounts of rice with this. It had numbing spice to it and an incredible amount of flavor. Umami bursts were going off on my palate. Preserved meat clay pot rice - Delicious and oh so plenty. I love that the rice was cooked really well and the preserved meat added a ton of flavor to the rice. The only thing that was a tiny bit off with this dish was how salty it is. BUT it didn't takeaway how good the rice was overall as a whole.

Came here to try the fish filet with peppercorn and pickled mustard greens and YaoYao did not disappoint! My friend and I ordered the two flavors, the pickled mustard greens vers and the sichuan pepper version. Both, paired with rice, is like a warm hug from your Chinese grandma. The twice cooked pork with wood ear mushrooms was also flavorful; thinly sliced and not too fatty, which is the perfect balance. We also ordered the cucumber salad for some crunch and refreshing bite. The all-aqua theme of the restaurant is cute and fun. Lots of large tables for big groups, and the service was friendly and attentive as well.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Not only was our server rude, he was running around the restaurant like a chicken with its head cut off. We had questions about the menu and his tone made us sound like idiots. He threw the iPad on the table and said to just order from there. We wouldn't be asking questions if we knew the answer to them. My mom had to physically go find another worker to get our order sorted out! We ended up ordering their popular soy sauce chicken and fish with pickled cabbage. The food was decent but not the service (see pictures). As a paying customer, I will NOT be dining here ever again!

The restaurant is really big and we sat at a table for 14 pretty comfortably. We were also here on a Saturday night and the restaurant was full. The service is your typical Chinese restaurant vibe where you leave a little bit emotionally abused after paying for overly priced menu items. We did the à la cart and easily spent up to $1500. Better off with the family plan meal but nothing was of interest to us except one or two dishes. It took forever to come out and I mean FOREVER to a point where we almost cancelled a few dishes and called it a night, but they kept saying it's being made. With as many people and as massive as the restaurant was, and the price tags, I was expecting a more efficient service. A couple of times we saw our dish being brought to the wrong table and the people going "oh we didn't order this." With all of that out of the way, I am giving them an average score of 3 starts because the food did bring them back up. It was actually really good. My favorite of all things we ordered was their sea bass with string beans. The sea bass was fried crispy, garnished salty and still soft inside. It paired really well with the string beans. We ordered a bunch of other things that I couldn't tell you what the name was in English and they were above average taste wise. Their complimentary dessert however, was mass produced and tasted like they added too much water to it. This was the only one I was disappointed in. I still say this place is extremely overpriced but for a family meal experience and if you ever want to impress a date, why not.

To be honest, Fusion used to be terrible, and I used to absolutely hate coming here. Food was slow in coming, what came out was often cold, the dining room was loud, and service was impersonal, at best. On one visit, half the menu was unavailable, requested silverware was crooked, and numerous glasses, bowls, and plates were chipped or damaged. On another visit, I saw multiple families sneak out of the restaurant, walk to McDonald's across the plaza, and smuggle food back in to tide them over until their orders came. After a while, I wasn't alone in meeting the decree of, "come to Fusion on Saturday," with a groan. However, when HL Peninsula opened in Castro Valley and established itself as a threat to Fusion's business, it served as a wake-up call. Food immediately got better (from "below-average" to "know what to order and you'll be fine"), the speed of service improved, and food temperature became consistent and proper. It's not QUITE a "different restaurant" feel, and there are still some negatives. It's still loud and service could still be better (there have been times where chicken wings have taken over an hour to come out, which is a "should not occur"). However, at least I don't dread coming here anymore.

Between the two of us, we ordered a whole Hainan chicken -- knowing that we'd have enough leftovers for dinner later that evening, as well as a baked fish fillet over rice. Like all baked entrees, you should expect to wait around 20 minutes or so for the dish to be prepared. If you anticipate being hungry during the extended wait, I'd recommend ordering some snacks as well, like popcorn chicken or some curry fish balls. The baked fish fillet here is absolutely delicious. If you enjoy Korean corn cheese, this dish feels like corn cheese over rice, with a perfectly crispy fish filet on top, smothered with a white cream sauce. This dish is incredibly rich and each bite feels like a warm hug. You'll definitely be in the mood for a nap after finishing this dish. The Hainan chicken here is probably some of the best in the Bay. The chicken skin has the gelatinous texture of well-prepared Hainan chicken, and the chicken itself is incredibly moist and tender. The chickens they serve up are absolutely massive and a whole chicken should comfortably feed a family of four. The ginger scallion sauce on the side could use a touch of salt, but that's just my personal preference for things to be a tad saltier. Overall, if you're craving Hong Kong diner food, Baby Cafe is a great option in this part of town. I would definitely stop by again for lunch.

There's usually a pretty good line right by the register, so this place is pretty well known by the Asian locals. Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup ($16/2*) First outing here I sat for lunch and tried this. Surprisingly disappointing seeing how busy and popular this place is. The wontons were okay, decent flavor with a strong sesame oil presence. But they weren't that plump and luxurious, just seemed like homemade/amateur versions. Which is fine, except given the nicer restaurant feel, I just expected something more elevated. The noodles were fine, super thin egg noodles that had a nice QQ. BUT their broth was so bland and unremarkable that it kinda ruined the whole experience. I couldn't even taste/detect the protein that made up the stock, just tasted like murky liquid to me. And zero condiments on the table, so I just ate the wontons and the plain tasting noodles cuz the broth couldn't offer anything to the noodles. Womp womp. And their bowl of choice is very weird to eat from. Super tall bowl that if you leave a spoon in there it will sink and be submerged for you to fish out...in piping hot liquid. If I would have reviewed this place just on this one visit, then it surely would have been a sub 3* rating. But I knew I couldn't leave my impression with that one lone visit. Roast Duck - Half ($20/4*) Came back for some take-out deli items and I was handsomely rewarded. Total 180 experience from the soup outing. Their ducks here are slightly more expensive than most others for the area. But it is still worth it imo. They cut it with good skill and even for a take-out box they present it nicely, with the shape of duck still somewhat intact. The skin is not crisp at all but it is very well rendered. Some pieces were not that salty at all but some other pieces are well seasoned, which I thought was strange. But overall a very solid roast duck is to be found here. There's also a big scoop of these tiny beans that are slightly sweet almost like baked beans just not as gloopy. But the bean texture is very al dente, almost crunchy, which I found very strange. Macao Roast Pork w/ Rice ($19/4.5*) This is crazy good...I'll even say special. Super seasoned pork belly is roasted til the skin gets crisp...like chicharon status, except it is just a very thin layer of crispness. So the balance between the sturdy crunch and juicy flavorful meat was practically perfect. It is definitely on the salty side, almost the same intenseness as eating Spam with white rice, but white rice offsets those salty components beautifully. And they garnish this massive plate with perfectly blanched gai lan (Chinese Broccoli) and some other pickled greens that add a nice sweet and tangy component. So between the decadent pork, white rice and diverse greens offerings just made this a complete one stop shop that could make a regular out of me. There's also a Share Tea next door so I've got a harmonious tandem going on here. Lucky Ducky Me yassss!
