This place is just one of the worst place I have ever eaten at. They offer a big menu but don't let it fool you they can not cook anything authentic especially their sichuan dishes and cold dishes. For their pork dishes they used the same cut of pork for every dish even when they need to be completely different cut and different texture. I ordered twice cooked pork and pork with sweet potato noodles and the pork used is the same. I also ordered a 梅菜扣肉 again same type pork used. When I come pick up my order I couldn't believe what I heard. The cashier mumbled why aren't you tipping ? I said this is take out order why is there expectation to tip? Then she says oh it takes effort to box up the food, by then I just don't even want to bother talking anymore and gave her 5 bucks in cash and off on my way home. I overheard a customer from the other table saying her friend lives an hour away and drove that far just to order their dumplings...for dinner, the other table had 4 orders of the dumplings (18 stickyliciousness). Forgot to ask for hot sauce and lemon on the side to make dipping sauce for them dumplings. Expected slow service because there was only one person working as server and cashier at the same time. She welcomes walk-in customers , answer phone orders, and then assemble grubhub delivery...She needs help. Did not mind waiting. But one couple left and decided to eat at a thai place across the street. No need for fancy table set-up. Very simple interior. Decent and authentic Northern Chinese food, better than most Chinese places in the Ann Arbor area. It's a hole-in-the-wall so don't expect an extravagant interior or overly attentive service. Spicy beef noodle soup - good but nothing life-changing. I didn't try this but my friend liked it more than the pao mo. It has a good amount of bok choy and beef (not overly fatty), but isn't that spicy. Noodles are nice and chewy though not exceptional. Lan City nearby is a much better option for noodles. Pork triple delight dumplings - decent, juicy fillings, but again not life-changing. The chili oil it came with was nice but not really spicy. We asked for ours steamed but the skin didn't really feel like it was, and when it came out some parts were hard; the skin was also on the thick side. Pita bread soaked in lamb soup (pao mo) - this is mostly liquid with two pieces of (packaged?) pita bread. There was very little meat, mostly bone and fat. The pita is nice when soaked in the broth, but it's too thin and not really what I was expecting - when reading the menu I thought pita was just a translation for the bread, not literally pita. I was really grumpy, verging on hangry, and our first choice for dim sum was full to bursting and no idea how long the wait was. We opted not to wait and instead decided to give this place a try. At first glance, it's a little terrifying. Bare wires from old neon signs hang from the ceiling, the drop ceiling is poorly painted and a horrifying color, and the decor was straight out of my grandmother's kitchen circa 1975 - pink and orange and yellow. My husband looked at me, a little unsure. We took our seats anyway. The proprietor was quick to greet us and take our drink order. She appeared to be the only person in the building. We ordered the beef and dill and lamb and cilantro dumplings pan-fried, and the steamed pork buns. HOLY COW. These were DIVINE! The seasonings were perfectly balanced, the flavors were absolutely delicious, and everything was piping hot. The meal was absolutely spectacular. The only thing wrong with this place is that it's in the wrong city. It needs to be in Toledo so I can eat here more often! We'll definitely be coming up again just for these dumplings. read more

This was a little bit heartbreaking, in large part because I has such high hopes based on some previous Yelp reviews and the restaurant's online menu. When I saw on my computer they served sweet tofu pudding, my heart skipped a beat! I almost woke up my daughter in the middle of the night to share my excitement, because it is one of her favorite Chinese dishes, and it's surprisingly hard to find. But when we got to Yee Siang and opened the menu, the dish wasn't to be found. It was removed from the menu, and no longer available. [sad trombone] Still, we were determined to make the best of it. One of her other favorite treats is dipping a deep fried cruller into hot soy milk. I take personally responsibility for not being explicit and ordering the hot soy milk "sweet". The cruller itself was excellent, but the experience wasn't what she had hoped. The boiled pork dumplings with chives were good, and they were remarkably juicy. I've had better, but I've also had worse. What holds these back are the condiments. The chili oil really needed more punch, and the black vinegar was in a sticky plastic squeeze bottle, which made it unpleasant to use. I'm fine with going to grittier places to get delicious things to eat. But when the food doesn't quite measure up, I'm less forgiving of certain shortcomings. With a place selling incredible noodles just down the road, Yee Siang could really stand to up its dumpling game. There's little better than brilliant boiled dumplings, and I'm looking forward to returning and trying more of the thing they do best. Although perhaps I might see if they'll sell me some uncooked dumplings to boil at home, so I can enjoy them with better chili oil and vinegar. I was a big fan of this restaurant for many years and I had recommended it to many of my friends. It is disheartening to see the quality of the food going down hill. What it used to be was a restaurant that servers northern Chinese delights that are hard to find (most of the restaurants are Cantonese or Sichuan). Nowadays the flavors has changed, the quality is way worse, it has became such a disappointment. Its getting to the point that it no longer deserve the 4 stars its getting anymore. I will throw out some examples. Ma Po Tofu, it is supposed to be cooked with a little bit of ground meat. That ground meat is completely missing. I am fine with that if they are trying making it a vegetarian option. But the tofu will sometimes come out over cooked and even completely burnt at one time, the whole dish was bitter tasting due to the burn, $12 goes straight to the trash can. Since the restaurant has only take out and no more dine in now, there is no way to give the kitchen feed back about how mess up it was. Yu Xiang Shredded Pork. It is as common of a northern dish as it can be, I thought you can't mess that up if you call yourself a dumpling restaurant right? Lo and behold, it was cooked with NO PORK! It was Yu Xiang Shredded green pepper and onion. And it was not even Yu Xiang flavor, let's just call it Vinegar Xiang (Xiang means flavor by the way). Lastly let's talk about the Dumpling which is their signature dish. Lamb and Cilantro, my favorite option, the only thing on the menu that's still edible, has became more and more oily. I couldn't figure out why is the case, it could just because fatty meat is cheaper that lean meat. I understand that there are labor shortages everywhere, and I totally understand if you raise the price once or twice. However, please stop cutting the qualities. All in all, I will still go buy dumplings there, its simply because I can't find another restaurant that serves the same thing. But I doubt how much more I will be coming. Egg rolls were hot and the 'wrapper' dough was tasty with a delightful 'chew' to it. Plum sauce was more vinegar base but tasty. Beef Lo Mein was fabulous, meat portion was ample and tender. Not an avid dumpling eater but the meat inside was tasty and it was our first time having steamed pork buns, which I thought were good: bun was tender and filling was tasty. The building is very simple, reuse of a fast food place? Doesn't look like much but decor was okay, outdated. Booths and tables which can handle parties of 6-8. Our server was very nice, attentive. We drove a long way to get here, but it was worth the drive. It's a nice little mom and pop type Chinese restaurant with really good food. My wife loved her pig's ears (she is still beautiful to me) as well as the spicy ramen noodle soup with beef. The crab rangoon I ordered was possibly the best crab rangoon I've ever had. The jumbo pepper shrimp was delicious, with a good portion of large fresh shrimp (head on, of course). The pork, shrimp and chives dumplings were surprisingly bland, but harmless. This is a small treasure in Ypsilanti. Family run & English is limited, but the service is wonderful & the portions are generous like the servers. It was The Lunar Chinese New Year when we went & they could not have been kinder. I felt guilty because I felt we should be serving them so they could celebrate their New Year. The food was so good I didn't really have time to dwell on guilt. We had steamed pork & cabbage dumplings which were delightful! Soooo good! And Tripke delight dumplings with a lovely pop of broth when you bite into the dumpling. I stumbled across Lan City just down the street I wanted to do a beef noodle soup side-by-side comparison. This place does not hold a candle to them. Lan City's beef noodle soup Is absolutely delicious! The broth is delightful, and the handmade noodles are superb. The beef noodle soup here is just not very good. After ordering, the soup arrived within 3 minutes. The broth tasted like canned beef soup. Almost reminiscent of Campbell's beef noodle soup. It's supposed to be spicy, but it's not. There are bigger than bite-sized cubes of beef. The beef was tough and each cube had a fair amount of fat attached. Nothing special about the meat. Noodles clearly not hand made on site. Decor is dated. Service average. Their ice machine does not work. Bathrooms could use cleaning and an update. read more

I loved this place! Ok, let's say i loved the food. A lot of authentic Chinese dishes you don't see at the americanized joints. There were no less than 30 other dishes I really really wanted to try, it was so hard to whittle it down. The dumplings were bomb, but I wouldn't say they were the best thing i had here. I probably liked the malatang best. In it i had lamb, which was so so good, shiitake mushrooms(even though I ordered enokitake ughhh), fake crab and tofu skin. Only had 2 little pieces of tofu skin though. But it was still good so it wasn't that big a deal. Had the cabbage and shiitake dumplings, and the chicken and shrimp, both were really good with chili oil and black vinegar. Chili oil noodles were really good too, have to get this again. Also had the scallion pancakes, these were super good, chewy on the inside and flaky on the outside. Taro tea was meh. Not even sure it was taro, didn't taste much like it at all. Service was lacking but the woman was nice. Only one person working the whole place, so. All in all im very glad i came. Prices were totally reasonable and the portions were generous. I've eaten at Yee Siang Dumplings probably about 8 times. Generally, this place I would rate about three stars for atmosphere, four stars for food, 2 stars for service. Except today. I'm debating giving it one star, except I've been here enough to know that it's better than one star. We ordered an 18 count dumpling . The dumplings came out undercooked. The insides were squishy, jelly-like. I ate like two and my mom ate like 3 before we definitely were like...nope this is undercooked and definitely not good to eat. We notified the waitress kindly and privately and asked her to take it away. She apologized and said she'll make us a fresh batch. By then our appetites were gone and we definitely weren't going to eat anymore. We left over half the dumplings on the plate. We told her we don't want any more dumplings and to just take it off our bill because they were not cooked through. (We also ordered some other food that we ate and gladly paid for). She scoffed at us and said how could she take it off our bill when we already ate it. I looked at our plate that still had like a dozen inedible dumplings on it. I'm confused...we eat dumplings that make us sick later and lose our appetite and you force us to eat more? Ummm no thanks. We didn't want to make a scene. I love it! This is such an authentic Chinese dumpling place! They not only have dumplings, but they also serve other authentic Chinese food such as the marinated beef shank and the pork bun. They are all so delicious! All the dumplings seem to be hand made, and they're super yummy and juicy. The skin is a bit thick and that's how I know it's hand made! Fairly low-key joint on Washtenaw near Yipsi. We went on a Wednesday night in December, it was half-empty, and it was cold! Poor heating inside. Got a pot of chrysanthemum tea to try to warm up and it was basically hot water (no flavor). The food is solid though and all very good value. Ma-poh tofu was a huge bowl of marinated tofu and tasted great. We got a lo mein plate with veggies and really liked it (good noodles). We also got a Mongolian beef which was a bit saucy/oily but tasted good. And we got a plate of pork and chive dumplings which we liked too. Sorry I forgot to take pictures! We decided to give this place a try, and overall, it was pretty good! We got the sauted string beans, bok choy and mushroom, mushroom and pork dumplings, and beef and dill dumplings. All were very good, not too greasy, and tasty (I generally don't like green beans, but these green beans were delicious)! The only issue was that we wanted our dumplings to be pan fried and arrived steamed, and the sauces all leaked out all over the bag. This is me nitpicking, but the pork dumpling could have used a LITTLE more shiitake mushroom (we love the shiitake flavor, and we got only a small dose of it). The dumplings were good, nothing to go out of your way for. The filling was very tasty, I could make out the pork, the shrimp, and the onion, but the dumpling itself was very tough, not tender like I am used to. Now, the Beef Udon Stir Fry way AMAZING! Fresh veggies, and the noodles were cooked just right. The sauce was full of flavor, and not salty at all! The dumplings here are obviously good, thick homemade wrappers and well seasoned and done just like my mom but better (sorry mom!). The hot chili oil they give to use as a dipping sauce is perfect, not too spicy at all but that fragrant chili taste. Others things on the menu are just as good! One of my personal favorites is the ox tail stew was falling off the bone tender and came along with super flavorful tomato-y soup that went perfect with rice. Thanks for China steamed homemade dumplings, love it with the sweet black vinegar. Very light in flavor, most light ever, even more so than making at home. Mapo tofu doesn't have pork? Original should have pork, makes the dish. Ja jurng mein, too little sauce and bland again noodles. Still a plus for Ann Arbor and Chinese choices around. read more
