It is basically like hot pot where you put your toppings in a broth and let it cook but instead everything is already cooked for you. When you go inside the restaurant, you will get a number for a table after that you can grab a bowl and start putting any toppings your heart desires. But, before you do that, the bowl is weighted by lbs., and its $13.99 a lb. There are a variety of vegetables, meats, seafood, noodles and other assortments that you see in hot pot. Once you are done, you take the bowl to the cashier where they weight your bowl and ask what soup based you would want such a beef (only has mild, medium spicy and extra spicy), tomato, tom yum and spicy dry mix. You don't pay yet, you will pay after eating. Once you get to your table, you can go to the sauce bar to make your own dipping sauces. All the sauces are your usual hot pot sauces such as sesame sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce, chili oil, and many more. My bf got the tomato broth and really like it. It was really flavorful with a hint of sweet and sourness. Meanwhile, I got the tom yum broth and it tasted like what Tom Yum would taste like but the flavor was perfect, not too sour or too spicy. Then you give the counter your bowl, they weigh it, tag it and give you a number corresponding to your bowl, and then you take a seat while they prepare your meal. The soup bowls are huge so be mindful when filling your bowl. It's priced by weight (13.99/lb) - I got a lil carried away and filled my bowl with 2lbs worth of veggies, mushrooms, and tofu but was able to save a good portion of it to take to go to use as a meal the next day. I'd say 1-1.5lbs is a solid meal. They also have a sauce station to make your own sauce which really helps make this customizable meal even more customizable! For my fellow vegans, the tomato soup base is vegan (not sure about the others bc I forgot to ask) and it's super flavorful! Since mushroom and tofu are heavier than the thin meat slices, it does feel like I'm paying more for the vegan/vegetarian option but that's my only complaint. The malatang craze has taken the 626 over by storm! Many build your own hot/dry pot places have been popping up all over the 626 and you can't go wrong with the YGF franchise. PRO-TIP #1: Make sure you get a stamp card as I think you can use them at other locations (except for NorCal, RIP to those poor bastards). PRO-TIP #2: Everything is weight based! The cost is based on what you put into your bowl and either through design or careful thinking, the heavier, "cheaper" items are located at the start of the line, thus psychologically psyching people out into getting them and making their bowels heavier. The smartie thing to do is skip over, get meat, and then go back to contemplate what other items to put in. Those fresh noodles and some of the veggies are SUPER heavy so keep that in mind. I've seen people pay $30+ for a singular serving (granted you can take it home, but still, make smart choices!). You get the choice of soups or to make it a dry pot and I got their tomato soup base. I remember it having a nice depth and tomato taste that was a bit spicy, but nothing too overwhelming, and a slight sweetness from the tomato. Everything comes out super fresh and hot so that all the ingredients can cook inside. I got the instant noodles which weren't bad, but I would have loved to have Korean instant noodles to get that chewy texture with the soup flavor. All the meats I got were tender and everything else tasted decently fresh, especially since a lot is frozen/refrigerated. There is a sauce bar, but the line and crowd can get a bit busy since for some bizarre reason the serving spoons are puny, but I got my good old spicy chilies, sesame sauce and some numbing peppercorn oil as well. The seating is minimalistic, but structured. Being that this is my third time here, I feel like the beef quality and cook of the noodles are not as good as my previous visits. However, I like the broth here more than Yintang down the street because of its Chinese herbal aftertaste. Upon entering through the plaza (not Baldwin Ave), you need to enter your name on the waitlist for dine in. The waiter will call your name and hand you a number. The table seating is further down after you grab your raw food in a bowl with tongs, get it weighed, and then your paper number is your table while your bracelet number is the meal. You can grab drinks from the fridge to your table and they will sum up the check afterwards. As you are seated the sauce station is in the corner near the servers station. The place is clean, a bit chilly as you are closer to the door, and have numbers on the table. As you get your sauce made, the server will bring your cooked meal to the table using the bracelet number. We grabbed mostly pork belly, garlic beef, quail eggs, sausages, spam, a few veggies with udon packet. Our broth (the only one they said was most nonspicy) was tomato. My kid only cared for the udon. The tomato broth was nice and warm (a bit sweet and sour with a hint of spice). Unfortunately they said the beef bone broth cannot be nonspicy. We didn't order any appetizers or specialty drinks. Since the broth is so rich in flavor, I didn't use any my sauce from the sauce bar. **The mild spicy is mala spicy so if you can't handle any spicy or want a looot less (like me and my family), I definitely recommend asking them to make it much less spicy and your soup will have barely any of the red chili oil. When you enter the restaurant, you grab your own food at a food bar including noodles, veggies, fish balls, thin slices of meats and seafood. I love seafood so I get a ton of scallops and shrimp. The black noodles are really good and stay very chewy and bouncy after being cooked. Lastly I personally get a lot of bamboo because this is the first place that I've seen serve it. I wanted to try frog legs but it was frozen in a block so I couldn't... Everything is pay by weight. After paying then you walk into the back half of the restaurant at your assigned table number then wait for your hot bowl of already cooked hot pot to come out. came here on a wednesday afternoon around 3pm and it wasn't busy at all. you pick up a bowl and tongs and start putting what you want into your bowl. after that, you bring it to the front to weigh and they price it! they'll give you a receipt and a bracelet with a number. the sauce station is deeper inside where the seating is. they also have an area where you can order drinks and by the end of eating, they'll give you a tab where you have to get up and pay where the drink area is. i've been to a restaurant in vancouver called "big way" and compared to that restaurant, ygf doesn't have many options when it comes to soup and dry broth. since i'm not aware of any other restaurants that are pay-by-the-pound in the los angeles area, ygf is decent for what it offers and the price of all of our bowls by the end wasn't too bad! i would say it's worth to try it. read more

The selection of items is not the same as the one in RH - there is no pork belly ( minus 1 star because I like pork belly) but they had frog legs which was not something i wanted to try. they also had chicken feet, chicken gizzards which is not available in RH. They provide free rice. The service is fast and efficient but some of the wait staff don't speak English so when i asked for Ice for my soda I got rice. The place is clean. This location is in the same plaza as Menya and LA fitness. Parking is plentiful with a big lot in the plaza, can be hard to find a good spot during peak times. Once you enter, sign in on the tablet with your party size even if there is no wait. You still have to sign in regardless. After you sign in, you get to create your own ingredients bowl for your hotpot bowl. The ingredient range from all sorts of hotpot ingredients you'd normally find from fish balls, to veggies, to meats and seafood. They have a wide variety. After you've selected your ingredients - you go to the register and have your bowl weighed. Charges are made by pound (13.99/lb). So it's up to you how much you want to pay based on what you choose to add to your bowl. When you're weighing your bowl, you also choose a broth you want to go with it. The employees will take your bowl and cook it all for you, then bring it out to your table once it's ready for you to eat. There is also a sauce station with multiple different sauces! Loved this. Overall, the food was decent. Broth was delicious (beef - mild). I would come here again but I'd try to limit my ingredients as I got too much. We don't know if the branch in Figueroa is relatively new that is why it has lesser food offerings. Also, this branch offers milk tea and other drinks. This branch has tom yum broth, however, it was not available today so we just ordered our usual tomato-based broth. The meats are not as fatty has some lean cuts. I usually get couple of light veggies (with less water) and heavy of meats because they're a lot lighter. I get tom yum with spice and as you get seated they also has a sauce bar so much to mix. I like getting sesame oil, soy sauce, sesame sauce, a bit of chilli and of course garlic, green onions and cilantro. The food came out around 10-15 mins and it was so good!!! If you still have a lot of broth left, you can take it to go and make more hot pot the next day!!!!
