Don't waste your time or money here. Their dinner size can barely pass for lunch sizes. I ordered a chicken and broccoli, but might as well have ordered broccoli. There was so much in there, you couldn't find the chicken. I dug through to the bottom to be sure, but to no prevail. The sesame chicken was so hard, it was almost inedible. It too had broccoli. The hot and sour soup tasted like somebody poured stock into a pot and through some random things in it. It was flavorless, oily, and disgusting. When we paid and she came to pick up the check she said "you give me tip" we said we were going to leave cash. I have been to Yi four times now, and it has been quite good every single time. The service is always very good. The staff is usually attentive, despite the fact that they're always busy. There's usually somewhat of a language gap, since most of the staff are Japanese; however, I've never had a problem with any of the servers not being able to understand me. The food is always really good, and I can easily fill up for less than $10. Keep in mind that this is not wold-class, five-star sushi, but it Is really tasty and I always feel like I get way more than I pay for. I have only ever tried the sushi, so I don't know anything about their other menu items. Honestly, why would you go to a sushi restaurant and get orange chicken? Anyway, the sushi is definitely worth a shot. My personal recommendation is the spicy scallop roll; I have to get it every time. Tonight.. was disgusting unfortunately. I usually enjoy this place. But upon tonight I hate this place and the waitresses. The food was disgusting. A few months back I paid cash $20 and counting my money I got back, the waitress took 4 extra dollars so I didn't tip because she took it herself. I actually really liked Yi. I thought it was an excellent place to get good sushi for a good price. Their service, particularly their wait times, is so inconsistent that I can no longer recommend people come here. I am currently waiting for a to go order that I made over twenty minutes ago. The restaurant is not busy, my order is not complicated, but it is not here. The wait staff is completely ignoring me. I'm about to leave, sans food, because I have somewhere else to be and I wasn't anticipating a to go order from a non-busy restaurant to take so long. Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened, but it will be the last, because I likely won't be returning. I go pretty far out of my way to go to this restaurant because I thought it was worth it, but I feel incredibly unvalued. Top of the line cheap sushi! They're always busy and the quality is consistent. We usually spend less than $15 for two people and we're stuffed when we're finished. This is my go-to when I have a craving and I usually opt for a couple of the $4 (actually $2) rolls and some soup and the soup is a big serving! I don't really like to eat in the actual restaurant so I can't comment on the servers but they're great for take-out and they package the food really well. Oh no! Can't believe I didn't review this two days ago when I came here for dinner and added the business here on Yelp ... just what happens when you wait a little too long...! This place is amazingly affordable. They're offering 50% off all rolls now, but really the rolls are $6 tp $10 so they're not crazy expensive to begin with. I don't know if anyone is familiar with Red Ginger Bistro on 3500 South and State Street, but this place is just the same, but without the crowd, long waiting line and crowded parking lot. Same, or even better rolls, with an outstanding service! Same owners, they just wanted to offer a bigger space. When you walk in it's just like deja-vu from Red Ginger - although I prefer the tall booths this Yi Sushi Bistro has, it offers more privacy (compared to Red Ginger Bistro), so we're not all staring at each other when we eat and elbowing the person on the next table. I would say it's appropiate for kids, because it allows them to be a little louder than a normal polite adult and my son was content just watching videos on his ipod while we waiting 5 minutes for our food, without disrupting other guests. The staff was so friendly and accomodating, the rolls were delicious... and honestly nothing tastes better than good food with a tiny price tag, and with a great service I was just floating on a cloud when I left there. This is really good sushi for the price. It's one of the "half off" joints in the valley (why do they do that??), and I think it's the best of the bunch. It tastes good and you can really get your fill. Does it have that aesthetic finesse you look for in great sushi? No. It's basic rolls plopped on a plastic tray, but for the price it's still a good meal. I loved my rainbow roll and the spicy tuna was pretty good. The miso soup was...miso soup (hard to mess that one up), and all in all I was really pleased with my meal. When I just want to stuff my face, I'm planning to go again. The sushi here is relatively good for the price. Sashimi and nigiri are $1 each, while rolls are 50% off, making them about $4-8 dollars a roll! The spider roll was ok, however I don't recall ever seeing romaine lettuce in a sushi roll. Surprisingly, it wasn't all that bad. The devils tower roll (deep fried), was rather mushy. I'm guessing the deep frying process probably trapped too much water in the roll, making rice quite soggy. The Salt Lake roll was one that was pretty good and might be worth a try. I sampled several other rolls as well (I went with a group) and they seemed to be pretty good. If it's someone's birthday, they'll turn down the lights, put on the strobe lights, and turn on a birthday song. Instantly turning a typical sushi restaurant into poppin' club LOL +awesome points LOL!!! They also brought some chocolate mocha ice cream (with a candle) for my friend's birthday, which was nice. Yuk, this place is awful. I wanted to like it, as it has the retro Chinese decorations. The staff was friendly enough and they had creative options on their menu, such as a combination of chicken and shrimp called "Dragon and Phoenix". I went there since they offered udon. I love udon, am addicted to it (nabeyaki), and in 2015 ate the stuff from a food truck and local restaurant three to four days a week for lunch. Their udon noodles were ok, pretty basic, but the shrimp I got with it was old and gritty. Large, but inedible. I ordered some orange chicken, same thing, old and and tasted as if it had been cooked frozen, so it had that stringy texture. My friend with me ordered a crab roll, and it was imitation! Crab out of can, the type for a salad or krab cakes. It was grainy as well, so it was even more evident that way, which means it was either old or it wasn't bonded with meat glue. I was shocked by how much of their food was just old, bad textured, gritty, and canned. I am harsh on food, but at least use some fresh stuff, especially if you are serving sushi. read more

Let's do a fast/slow here again. Fast: this place is basically Red Ginger with an actual attentive and caring wait staff. Slow: that also means this is yet another 50% off sushi place (why are the oceans being overfished again?), which means quality varies wildly. You're mostly ok with actual fish-pieces based rolls, but if you vary into anything that says spicy, you wind up with small chopped pieces, which have the consistency of catfood. There are also futomaki rolls and deep fried rolls (lots of those) available and the very nice waitress we had was kind in guiding us away from rolls that had gotten less than stellar reviews. If I had to say there was one king of the discount sushi places, it's probably this. We were seated somewhat quickly, the place is clean and not jammed together, service was fantastic and friendly, the green tea was actual green tea, the tables and decor were also very nice (though, again, reminiscent of Red Ginger) and the sushi made it out fairly quickly. While it's not competition for the higher end places, obviously, it is very nice if you just want to slug down a bunch of sushi or, as a friend of mine views these places, use it as somewhere to take the kids without breaking the bank. It's a bit of drive from where I work, so it probably won't be a regular stop, but I had no objections to it and wouldn't have any qualms about stopping again if I was in the area and in the mood... read more
