What a difference the plague makes, you'd think that a struggling restaurant would go out of it's way to make you feel welcome, not the case here. The once nice & welcoming Irene is now a bitter worn out snag that makes you so unwelcome, they won't ever have to worry about taking my order again. Picked up an order again yesterday & the usual rude "You need order or make phone order?" I receive my order & pay with a credit card, she throws the card receipt & pen on the table & says "Sign!" No mask worn here but that doesn't bother me. The sushi is what you'd imagine of when you hear the words "Gas Station Sushi." Horrible!!! Old rice, fried shrimp was at least 3 days old, avocado was spoiled just all around nasty rolls. No pride..no more of my money. This dump won't survive this fake pandemic. read more

I love this place. Their sushi is great, authentic, and VERY reasonably priced. They have a happy hour every day before 5 that is insane. I took my boyfriend during happy hour and he couldn't believe the sushi was that good at such a low price! We started going every week. Last time we were there the lady said "See you next Thursday." Tried this place for the first time and so glad I did. Everything was absolutely delicious. Our server Ann was very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable of the menu. The Chef even came out to greet us at the table and brought us a complimentary tuna tartar, took the time to explain every detail of the dish and was also very friendly. I usually get lunch here once or twice a month. I order the sushi lunch special, which is delicious, but I have a concern about the menu on their website, and the explanation I received from the hostess. Around 12:40 a.m., I placed an order over the phone at their Rancho San Diego restaurant location. On the Yi Sushi website, it stated that my menu item- "sushi lunch special" was $10.50. When I spoke to the lady who answered the phone, she said it was $13.00. When I arrived at the restaurant, I explained it to her again. She said that if I showed it to her what I was referring to, and it was $10.50, she would honor the price. I showed her, on my phone, where her website showed $10.50 for the lunch special. She said that that was an old menu that the public must have added. I said no one can access and change your website but you web account administrator. It appears to be false advertising. She still charged me $13.00 saying that I ordered the sushi regular- which is the same as the "lunch special". Amazing! Due to the untruthfulness of this discussion, I may begin looking for another sushi restaurant. read more

Yi Sushi is a small sushi spot in RSD! We come here every so often. I pass on their sushi and get the teriyaki bowl. I like their teriyaki bowl, gyoza and edamame. Staff doesn't cafe to make conversation. They take your order and bring out your food promptly. They have a great happy hour but don't expect an experience. All in all the food is not bad but this is not a usual spot for me. read more

I have been going here for about 10-15 years and this once was my favorite place to go for the Spanish roll. However, I don't recommend this place to anyone because the quality of the sushi has diminished greatly. I have tried to give it a second and third chance but this last order was the final straw. The sushi grade quality is very poor and their is no love from the hands that made my once great Spanish roll. The tuna seemed old this time around and I wonder if I will get sick afterwards. Used to love this place. So I purchased a poke bowl and since I am allergic to cucumbers I asked if I could replace it with anything else such as extra avocado. She completely avoids my question and put my order in. She looked a bit annoyed but I thought maybe she's having a bad day. Their bowls do not come with a lot ingredients and are a bit bland, so I was looking forward to some avocado. I get my order and I am shocked. They put a third of the avocado they usually include. To be petty? Idk. Additionally the avocado was so thin sliced it was almost translucent. As a business owner I am shocked how they do business. They have lost all class since covid started. Today I had the pleasure to try out this new sushi bar out here in Rancho San Diego. The place has been on the verge of opening the last few days, so I drove by today and to my surprise they were open for the first time. The place is very trendy inside, yet comfortable. I ordered some hot green tea and some lightly battered calamari served with a delicate creamy butter sauce (Ika Rings). The Ika rings were very tender and the breading was light a flaky. I liked them very much. I also ordered the salmon skin rolls which is one of my favorites. The roll was perfect because it was tightly rolled and packed with salmon skin. I also had the Alaska roll which had a handsome amount of salmon and avocado. Good roll. To my surprised, the waitress let me know that rolls, hand rolls, and special rolls come with a choice of either house soup or salad. What a nice surprise! I choose the salad and it was terrific! I let sit for a few minutes because the ginger dressing was ice cold straight out of the chiller. The dressing was very good. It was crisp and refreshing and I wanted more. Next time, I will order "the big salad," pardon the "Seinfeld" reference but the dressing was yummy. The menu is extensive with a variety lunch and dinner items. They also have a separate bar menu which I plan to try on my next visit. I also saw some dinner specialties I would like to try soon. read more

I love a good casual sushi place! This is great neighborhood place to grab some yummy, affordable sushi. My favorite roll is the Special Dragon Roll. I haven't seen this roll at other restaurants. It has all your necessary food groups: Eel, shrimp tempura, avocado, and rice. Plus, one special roll here is huge! Definitely enough for a solid lunch or dinner. I can't wait to come back to work my way through their menu. P.S. My friend and I got the Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream. It's rich, yet refreshing at the same time. I came here on a Friday night and was pleasantly surprised. The ambience was great and a lot of the items on the menu were very well priced, especially the amount of food you get! I ordered the baked mussels, dynamite roll, and the chicken udon. All of which were delicious and was completely stuffed by the end of my meal. The sauce on top of the mussels was sweet and creamy, and went very well with the mussels. The dynamite roll was baked and topped with crab meat, scallops, and avocado - perfect creamy goodness! My favorite would probably be the chicken udon. I felt the broth really made the dish. I will definitely be coming back here to try the happy hour, and anytime to get my sushi cravings :) read more

I'm somewhere between 3.5 and 4-stars for this place right now, but I'll give them an extra .5-star simply because of their daily happy hour menu. I likes deals. We were cruising around Rancho San Diego yesterday trying to figure out where we wanted to eat and decided on sushi. We'd seen the grand opening of this place a few months ago and had been meaning to try it, so there we go. As we walked up I saw the sign outside advertising their happy hour specials between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Sunday (I guess writing "every day" would have been too much?) and I immediately got excited. I love deals. Like, not just a little bit. When I say I love deals, I mean I looooooooooove dealssssssssss. We were there around 5:30 p.m. so a bit early for the dinner rush and had no problem getting a seat and fast service. We definitely noticed a lot more people arriving the closer we got to 6 p.m. and the place is fairly small inside, so I imagine it gets packed later in the evening. The interior is very clean and I especially love that they have special containers for the soy sauce, they don't just plop the Kikkoman bottle on the table. The decor in this restaurant is very put-together and inviting. It gave it a swanky feel without paying too much. We ordered exclusively off the happy hour menu. We ordered four rolls -- spicy salmon, spicy tuna, AAC (avocado, asparagus, and cucumber), and California -- and a Yakitori chicken. Our total bill was like $17, so yeah, awesome. On to the food: The California roll was great and I'm in love with the freshness and crunch of the AAC roll. I also enjoyed the spicy salmon roll, but it was rolled quite loosely and it made it difficult to eat. I also enjoyed the spicy tuna, but my husband wasn't impressed with either spicy rolls. He's a bit more knowledgeable when it comes to sushi than I am (I'm pretty much a sushi n00b). He was disappointed that the spicy salmon and tuna rolls were just a tiny bit of salmon/tuna with sauce on them. He also said the Yakitori chicken wasn't very good and he'd had better elsewhere. I didn't taste it so I have nothing else to say on that. Overall I was impressed with the amount of food, the quality of the food, and the service we received at this restaurant and I definitely want to keep coming back for their happy hour specials. I mean, a quality sushi dinner for $20?! That's amazing! Note: The happy hour menu they have on their website is only a very tiny fraction of what they actually offer. There are plenty of options for $3, $5, $7 (I think), and full meals/special rolls for $10. Excellent deals! Other note: Another customer ordered some sort of shrimp cocktail looking thing and they brought it out in a HUGE glass with flashing neon lights so I thoroughly enjoyed that. read more

I frequent this place often as they have a pretty solid lunch deal (maki lunch special) where you can get 2 rolls off the specified list (generally simple but tasty rolls) with a side salad or soup for about $8 or 3 rolls with a side soup or salad for $11. The Kamikazi roll is one of my favs here. so tasty! Fairly priced and good sushi. Appears to be family owned/operated. If you are in the area I recommend the place, however I wouldn't recommend making the trek from PB to Rancho to visit this place. read more

What a gem! The happy hour sold me. Monday through Saturday 3pm to 6 pm. Now the selection is huge. But it's quality over quantity right? We always get the crunch roll and jamacha roll. But I recently tried the $5 udon. AMAZING! I'm a udon lover so this hit the spot. And it has chicken (my favorite) The chicken katsu was great and a big hit with my son! They have a hibachi grill. Overall the meal was bland. East county roll was just disappointing; didn't bother to remove the lemon seeds in the lemon slices on top. Way too much cucumber. The Las Vegas roll tasted like old fry oil. Bento box chicken was bland and tasted like it was steamed. The miso soup was bland and tasted watered down. Garlic edamame was bland. May as well be plain edamame. Overall I was incredibly disappointed. The Salmon sashimi was excellent though, so I will give an extra star. Horrible!!!! I used to go here since 2015. THEN - the service was excellent as was the food so I compare everything now to previous owners /management. Now- the wasabi is oddly dark n tastes bland.
