Glad I checked this place out! I got there during one of their down times, the girl there was super sweet and friendly. Put in my to go order, she offered something to drink while I waited. It did my take very long at all to get my food, then again I was the only one in the restaurant at that time. Sushi truly wasn't bad, but it really tasted like it had been portioned out a day or two in advance. In addition to the poor taste, the ramen broth was not very good at all. This place has great food but the service is horrible... They guy who served us did not understand what sashimi was... I would only go here if the sushi joint down the street is packed and I would only Togo. What keep me coming back is the salmon skin... So freaking good. We came for happy hour on a weekday , the place was half full , had fried calamari , garlic edamame which had sweet bbq flavor , sapporo ( loved it ) , san diego roll , crunch roll , rancho roll , calamari was rubbery like too rubbery seems to be hit or miss in most sushi places , edamame was very good , rolls were ok nothing special , maybe san diego roll was better than other we ordered . I ordered a couple of rolls and asked them to go easy on the cream cheese. I received my roll that was supposed to have less cream cheese than normal and turns out it was mostly cream cheese in the center! Ha. On top of that (no pun intended) the crunchies on the roll were bread crumbs, they looked like they came straight out of a Shake and Bake bag, I was expecting panko like you would get at every other sushi joint. I told the waitress the roll was not good after eating 1 piece and it had too much cream cheese. She told me that was less cream cheese than normal and I laughed. She offered to remake it but I told her it was ok I would just eat the other one which was marginal at best and also made with subpar ingredients. When I recvd my bill I was shocked to see a charge for the wack roll. I thought this must have been mistake but when I talked to the waitress she said she could have them remake it, to which I already said no to once. I said, "are you really going to charge me for this roll that I had one piece of and sent back?" She gave me a blank stare and didn't say anything. They are friendly and welcoming people. The sushi plates are always made fresh right before you. I especially love their Sweet Heart roll because it has a good amount of tuna on it. Yum!! Their wasabi has a good viscosity to it and a great kick when you pair it with their ginger. I also order their dragon roll because it tastes phenomenal with the miso soup. We had just finished shopping close by and were looking for a good sushi place. This place popped up and I noticed it was happy hour. I called in and placed our order and they had it ready when I arrived. We tried the crunch rolls which were really fresh and tasty. I was really impressed with the texture in the sushi. The rice was cooked perfectly and the veggies were still nice and crisp. The calamari was a little too rubbery and had a lot of salt on it. We've lived in east county for over a year and have not been able to find an excellent sushi place... until now. This restaurant has more of a traditional ambience, the waiter (owner I believe) was very attentive and every single item we ordered was exceptionally delicious! My 3yr old had the beef teriyaki (which she devoured), hubby and I shared the Crunch Roll and the Rockin Roll and both rolls were delicious. We also ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Bento and the Chicken Katsu Bento and I had to force myself to stop eating because it was all too good. Only minor complaint was the ginger salad dressing... can use improvement. But definitely did not ruin my experience here. Thank goodness we found our "go to" Sushi restaurant in east county! This place just continues its decline into the dumpster! This is the 2nd time we've been here and the 2nd time we've been disappointed with the food. The first time we came w a group and the service and food was terrible but since we loved yi for years before it changed ownership so we wanted to try it one more time. Today was an even worse experience. The sushi was very poor quality (tuna in roll was very old and yakisoba was watery) and the rolls were pretty pricey for what you get. Then we paid using the qr code on the bill and we go to leave and the cashier chases us to the car saying we owe $3. My husband goes back in to try to clear things up but everything on our end was correct but they continued to pester him saying he maybe didn't have enough $ in his account to cover it? He litterally opened his banking app to show his account balance but that should not be necessary and they should not choose to use a faulty online pay option when we paid over the total since we included a tip. 100% won't be back this time! read more

Location is alittle hard to find in the strip mall it's in.....but once u have been oncw...easy to find. Went on a Sunday at like 330pm...and not busy at all. Waitess wasn't very friendly....she could definitely use some customer service lessons....thats the reason for the 4 stars. But other than that...we will be going back. However, the service has recently declined, and I have been reluctant to take clients and family members. The sushi here is good, as is the calamari, but the thing that I really liked was an impulse order after I'd already ordered our rolls: the jalapeño poppers. While they weren't as spicy as I normally like these things were delicious. The tuna in them along with the cream cheese and sauce, all of it was great. I don't have much to say except for I can't believe I haven't written a review for Yi until now. The portions are generous, the staff is super nice, and the HH prices can't be beat. Our favorites from the HH menu include the Salmon Skin Salad, the Rancho Roll, the Philly, the Sushi/Sashimi Combo and the Tuna Avocado...and TWO large hot sakes for the price of one?! PSHHH! This one's a no-brainer! Off the regular menu (which might I add, is very decent priced) include the Hamachi Kama, the Tri-Color, and any/all of the sushi/sashimi combos. I've tried their Hibachi Fried Rice (and I'm not a rice fan), but it's good, and it's worth coming back for.
