Dinner for two this week. My husband and I had a groupon and got the sashimi special for two and a spicy red snapper roll. The red snapper roll was ok. The sashimi special was really spectacular. See picture for presentation! It cost $42 and came with soup and plenty of fish for two people. The fish tasted so fresh! The service was great, too. Have visited this place several times and the sushi is decent; however avoid their teriyaki. They put a cooked chicken that was not grilled on a bed of raw vegetables. Our party was feeling ill afterward. The service was also slow on this day. Unfortunate to experience this now after two prior decent meals. read more

I hate to do this because I never write bad reviews, however, the experience I had this evening was atrocious. I'm a server myself and I feel like whoever runs this establishment needs to be aware of the service this woman is giving. My friends and I popped in for a quick bite to eat, I don't even recall the woman's name who served us, I don't think she ever even told us to begin with. She was a middle aged woman with very short hair. As soon as we sat down, she was instantly sassy and acting extremely rude towards us before we ever even ordered anything. My friend ordered a wine but didn't realize her ID was expired until the waitress told her (which is understandable) nobody made a fuss about it at all, but then the waitress continues to be weird and card us for ordering waters and a coke, and called us a bunch of "kids". the four of us are all 24 and up so that comment made no sense, she should know that considering she carded us for ice waters....lol. She then would slam the glasses on the table as she passed by as if we were bothering her with ordering soft drinks. She never refilled our waters so we barely had anything to drink while eating our meals. She got my friend's order wrong. I understand as a server myself we all have bad days and no one is perfect, but the difference is the attitude you have and your work ethic. She was the definition of pure laziness and sour all around. I always tip 20% if not more, but this woman did not even try to act like she cared at all so her tip reflected that. Her performance was extremely poor and it's so sad because the food was delicious. we have no desire to ever go back just based off how we were treated and I hope management sees this. Absolutely THE WORST food I have EVER had .. also terrible service!! Everything we had tasted like really bad fish - and no one at our table ordered fish! The tofu was slimy & the vegetables were rotten & undercooked. Expensive & disgusting. First and last experience here. Ordered take out cause they've been sending out flyers to every house in the vicinity with 20% off. Since my husband and I are new the area and it was a lazy Saturday evening where neither of us wanted to cook, we decided to try this place out. First off, the man answering the phone and taking orders sounded exasperated with my order (two hibachi dinners, no shrimp) and kept rushing me as I was ordering. He said 25 minutes so we drove up, got there about 30 minutes after. I ask my husband to get that the food. He walked into the restaurant in casual wear, shorts, shirt, sneakers. It's take out. No one gets dressed up for take out. I am still speechless at horribly they treated him. They refused to answer his questions and completely ignored him as he tried to get the food. They finally let him know that it would be a little longer. It was not 25 minutes, it was over an hour before we received our food. I specifically asked for no shrimp in my order. Why you ask? Because I have a pretty bad allergy to shrimp, I have to eat a significant portion such as something mixed with shrimp or a large shrimp to get a reaction, it's not anaphylactic but it causes my face to swell and my throat to itch. What did they put in my order? Shrimp. So I cannot eat my food which cost $20+ and I didn't realize until I got home because the shrimp was buried under some noodles in the main entree. My husband does assure me that the food is edible. I haven't tried the food for above stated reasons. I'm sure it's decent. I'm giving this place 1 stars only because I cannot physically give it zero stars. I don't put up with idiots who judge their customers based on looks/dress/accent/whatever. We both, my husband and I, work hard and our money is just as green as the next Joe Shmoe. Also, I really don't like restaurants that try to give me an allergic reaction when I specifically asked for no shrimp. Quite frankly for their attitude you'd think their restaurant was in the middle of West Hartford or somewhere more luxurious and not in the middle of a strip mall/plaza. Please get your food elsewhere. I now know why they're sending out flyers to every house with a bunch of 20% off deals. There's a McDonald's next door that has better service. read more

Favorite sushi/hibachi place in the area. Bar and wait staff are all great and friendly. Sushi is always fresh, have never had a roll I didn't like here. I have zero problem with kitchens taking their time and hate fast food, but as I asked the waiter after 30 and 45 minuets, he did not check and said it just takes time. If you know it's going to be over 45 minuets, you should say before. With all that said, the veggie burger and truffle fries were both very good read more

Had it once a few years ago got food poisoning had it again today have food poisoning again, food tastes great tho if you don't mind a little food poisoning..... the sushi is very good though never had any problems with the sushi. This by far the very best hibachi in the area. Typical hibachi items like chicken, steak, and shrimp served with noodles, rice, and veggies. Also includes salad, mushroom soup, and shrimp. What sets this place apart is the taste and quality; so delicious! The service is always great. Look for Groupons to save money. They often have a deal on there. Highly recommended for anyone in Connecticut as this is the best I've had so far in this state. read more

I hate to deduct points from a good restaurant with amazingly food and prices all because of mediocre service. I usually walk in with low expectations when I enter a Japanese restaurant because in my own personal experiences the wait staff usually isn't too friendly. In my opinion if my tip is going to be reflective of the service I receive I expect some pleasantry directed towards me when my food comes out and dishes leave the table . I have had two shockingly offensive experiences consecutively at Yume due to questionable service. I find the waitresses extremely rude and rushed. When I'm out eating I usually request to have my salads, soups and anything that comes out left on the table so I can nibble on throughout the meal. I'm accustomed to moving between my soups to salads and then salads to entrées. I don't think that request is demanding at all. The waitresses here had such a difficult time accepting that I wanted to keep my soup and salad. I tried being opened minded and receptive to all the possibilities that I might be of a great inconvenienced to her because I wanted to keep all of my bowls on the table. The only feasible explanation I can think of is that the extra bowl and plate will add extra ounces to the load she has to carry when it's time to clear the table. Honest I was going to make it worth it for her to carry two extra bowl and plate by compensating her appropriately in the tip. For me the fact that I wasn't allowed to keep my soup and salad was a major disappointment. She grabbed it and contaminated it before I had a chance to make my request known. Another annoyance was the way the plates arrived, I felt the table vibrating because the waitress sorta "dished" my meal at me. After two consecutively ill-mannered waitresses at Yume I'm ready to give up on the place. It is a shame that such a great place will be taken off my list because the wait staff lacks basic customer service skills. The food here is amazing. The prices are spectacular, cheap and portions are appropriate. I think they have some amazing sauces here. I would have to say the hibachi here is amazing and I've had good experiences with their fished meals. Yume would be a 5 if the service delivered is consistently good. read more

Dinner was great, the service was excellent, but the manager argued with us when my father-in-law presented a Groupon style coupon. Apparently there were some specials that were not honored by the coupon. Instead of trying to explain to us what was going in, he just told us that the coupon would not be honored. When we tried to convince him to split the check... one check for regular priced items, and one check for the specials, the manager told us to stop being unreasonable. Only after reading the coupon to him, did he understand what we wanted him to do. I will definitely go back... just not with a coupon. read more

Probably some of the best hibachi and sushi I've had in the area. I've been a handful of times and have been pretty happy despite some slow service and debatable issues with groupons. Their side salad is good and has that delicious ginger dressing that you can basically drink through a straw. I usually get the cucumber salad which is just cucumber and lettuce with a little vinaigrette and some sesame seed. It's a nice light salad that will help ease the hunger pains but won't fill you up. As far as rolls go, I'd recommend the Red Lobster which is a tempura lobster roll w/ cream cheese, the Phoenix roll or the Surf & Turf roll. All are hands down awesome and hard not to finish. If you're in the mood for hibachi, you've also come to the right place. I'd definitely favor their hibachi over Koma or Sakimura. read more

Why not 5 stars??? The food was excellent it really was but the service was as bad as KFC. (Table Service not hibachi) Food: my son and I had a clam soup, you get three or four clams on on the half shell in an thin broth, with shoots of ginger. OMG this was so good and warming on a cold day. (A) Then we ordered a two sushi rolls the Monster and the Dynamite, and because we came with a Group On we had to order more food per the not so friendly wait staff, so we ordered squid balls, just because, how could you not order squid balls???(A)All the food was out standing to say the least. I wish i could get that clam soup in one of my other fav, sushi spots. Service: I started with one wait staff and ended up with another why? I think it was the "group on" I guess cuz you have a group on the staff thinks they are not getting a tip, I don't give tips for poor service, if you would actually check on me to see if the food was good or maybe gave me water that didn't taste like it was right out of the sink and warm, well then yes you would get a tip, BUT none of these things occurred so no I did not tip, I did not like my server, but I tipped the sushi chefs. This was a long trip to get treated less than. End Of Service: I had to wait at least 15 mins after we had finished for the wait staff to come near the table, then catch her attention, so that we could leave. Has the potential to be the best sushi place in the area. The consistency of the food, the speed with which it is brought out, the prices, and beautiful presentations never disappoint. The shaggy dog roll, shrimp tempura maki, eel dragon, and kamikaze rolls are all personal favorites. And their steamed shrimp shumai and pork gyoza are second to none. For a less filling starter, the house salad, with the traditional mustard yellow peanut dressing is delicious. Though I am not typically one to seek out dessert after a meal of sushi, their tempura banana drizzled in chocolate is absolutely delicious! However, serious points lost for service. I had the same waitress three times in a row and she was INCREDIBLY rude, increasingly so each time we had her, she came to our table and asked if we were ready to order, we were not so we asked her to come back, she was back next to the table in slightly over a minute, we still weren't ready and she was visibly irritated and huffed and rolled her eyes at us. Later on she tried to pull the plate I was actively eating off of out from under me and was mad at ME when I said I wasn't finished yet. I finally had a new waitress for the first time today and she was pleasant, if a little impatient. If not for the quality of the food I would not return. From what I can see, some of the staff needs an attitude adjustment. read more

Went here on a Sunday night to celebrate a friend's birthday. Here are the quick points: Decor: Very nice decorating, comfortable seating. Service: Very prompt and overall very courteous. The manager was very kind to explain the different coupons deals to us and the hibachi chef was very friendly and talented. The waitress did a nice job managing our party of five. Food: -The hibachi was delicious. My fiancé and I had vegetable, which came with two shrimp. The shrimp were fresh-tasting and perfectly cooked. My friends who had meat and other seafood hibachi offerings were very pleased with their meals. -Seasoning of the rice and noodles was very balanced. -The salad was very fresh. -The soup was incredibly tasty and was not overly salty, which sometimes can happen. -We also had some sushi that was 40% off for Sunday special. The sushi was fresh and flavorful. -The portions were plentiful...enough for a second meal. Prices: -The prices were very reasonable. Bottom Line: -If you are looking for a solid-performing hibachi place at an incredibly affordable price then go to Yume. If we are in the area, I would consider going again! read more

This is by far the worst sushi restaurant I have ever been to and moreover is the worst restraunt in the local area. The sushi is no better then the stuff you can buy at stop and shop but often takes 40 minutes for the chefs to prepare. To top it off this place has the worst service I've ever seen. I have been to Yume sushi twice now, the first time on a whim because I had heard from a friend that it was really good and I had to try it. It was also in my old home town, so I had to try it out. Turns out my friend wasn't lying, this place does have some really awesome sushi! The best part about this place by far is if you eat there during the afternoon, sushi is half price! They bring you a special menu that lists each roll available for the discount and how much it costs. Needless to say, this is an extremely good value. I had ordered 2 rolls, and paid around $8. The best roll I had there, by far was the shaggy dog roll. I love tempura shrimp, which is the main ingredient in this roll. It is wrapped and covered in rice, and topped with shredded crap meat, eel sauce, spicy mayo, and tabiko. I could not eat enough pieces fast enough. I also got a classic spicy tuna roll, which was very tasty and also very fresh. The friend I went with had never eaten sushi before, and she loved it once we were done. We split the deep fried ice cream for desert, which was good but a little plain (the only ice cream available is vanilla). There are also hibachi tables in the back, and I do believe they have hibachi take out specials. Personally, I have had hibachi so many times that it is a little played out to me. The one complaint I have about the place was the wait staff. It wasn't that they were providing poor service, it was quite the opposite. At times, you would notice the wait staff watching you eat, just waiting for you to finish. It was a little uncomfortable, but I think it was because we went during the lunch hour and there was really no one else there. Overall, this place is definitely worth a visit. If you like sushi, I think you will find this place to be a real find, and I do plan on going back as much as possible. read more

Hibachi dinner: I was happy with the flavor of the food that they make on the hibachi table. I got chicken and shrimp hibachi dinner. It comes with a small salad (which had a really sorry tomato slice that was hardly red) and mushroom soup with a clear slightly onion flavor, fried rice, fried noodles and 2 shrimp. The table food performance was the usual entertaining set of catching-the-egg-on the metal spatula and onion volcano and pieces of zucchini in your mouth. I had a neck spasm from earlier this morning so my catching ability was not up to snuff. I was really happy that they sang my mom happy birthday and boomed the drum for her. For the area this sushi place has great sushi. They are friendly, attentive, and the rolls are fresh. They aren't huge...but they are tasty. I think it's the...sexy girl maybe...tuna and jalepeno...YUM! It's my favorite roll there. Whenever we sit at the bar the sushi chefs always give us a free appetizer. One time was some kind of tuna dish which was awesome...and another time they gave us salmon tempura which was really good too. read more

Great addition to the area. Clean, friendly and lovely atmosphere. Very creative rolls and appetizers. We love the shaggy dog roll, seared salmon appetizer, and ask for the Yume special roll(not on the menu)! Presentation is quite appealing and the staff is always welcoming. Service is fast and friendly. Sushi is just as good as some of the higher priced chi chi restaurants in the city. If there were one complaint it would be that sashimi portions are on the small side. We will return to Yume again and again and are so glad they are here! Oh and lance is a great addition behind the bar. read more

Our friends had a Groupon so invited us to dinner. We enjoyed the chef's culinary skills and exciting show. We tipped him because he deserved it. The food was ok. My husband thought that his lobster tail tasted freezer burned. The stir fried rice was awesome though!!!!! After our waitress returned with our bill, she said "There is a problem." We asked what is was, and she said "It was not enough money." The four of us proceeded to go over the bill again and again and could not find the problem. We tipped 20% on the original bill after having 5 cocktails total, eating way more than the $80 worth of Groupon-required food and also tipped the chef $10. I love this place. Why? The sushi is delicious, fresh and creative. The bar is fun, lively and inviting, and Peter (whom you can find behind the bar most nights) is the man. As far a Unionville, and more broadly the Farmington Valley go, there aren't many good sushi spots. Luckily with Yume around, you don't have to venture too far to get your fix. Yume is a restaurant serving Asian cuisine THE PROS: Food: I was pleasantly surprised to how good the food was. I did only get sushi but it was really tasty. Price: There was a special where certain roles were 50% off! I got a spicy tuna roll and a spicy salmon roll for $5! That's 12 pieces of sushi! Atmosphere: It's a small restaurant but I never felt claustrophobic or anything. Service: Quick and the waiters/waitresses are very friendly THE CONS: None....but the reason it did not get 5 stars is because I have only been there once, therefore my opinions are based off of one visit. This is by FAR the best hibachi I've had since moving north. The taste is comparable to Benihana, but the price is closer to Applebee's. The service was snappy, polite, and my food was ready quickly. I've been here a number of times and each visit has been "ok." The real appeal here is the friendly staff and the awesome specials the place often offers (ie. 30% off sushi rolls, cheap draft beers, lunch specials, etc.) but the food is mediocre. The sushi is not bad at all but the hibachi is kind of bland, at least when you order it from the kitchen and not the hibachi table. I noticed, for instance, that the garlic appears to be that jarred chopped garlic and not fresh. The shrimp and steak hibachi did not come with the dipping sauces you often get at other places. The decor a bit dated and the restaurant a little dusty here and there. The last time I was there, I found what looked like a bug in my sake. My boyfriend and I could not tell exactly what it was. Maybe dust? Either way, it was gross but the waitress was quick to take it away and off my bill. All in all, not a bad place. I wouldn't make it my top choice for local hibachi or sushi though. read more

Just left from a hibachi dinner. We had previously said we would never return to Yume after a prior negative experience, but decided to try it again tonight. We had a reservation for 7:00 and waited over 2 hours for cooking to even begin. This is no fault of our hibachi chef, as he appeared to be the only one in the restaurant; however, Peter, the manager, did not offer us any regret or compensation for our unacceptable wait time. Our wait staff didn't even bring us waters for about an hour, and only came around 3 times in the time we waited 2 hours for dinner. You should not be taking reservations you can't accommodate in a timely fashion. Will DEFINITELY never return. read more

I have had multiple bad experiences here. Mainly with manager. I've seen him screaming and yelling at the employees in front of customers. The food is mediocre at the best. I will not be going there again. Due to his lack of respect of his employees. I've gotten sick off the food the last time. And I felt like he only caters to people who look like their wealthy. So if you look the part he will serve you well. I'm very disappointed in the service. And I'm disappointed in the way that they treat the people that work there. Twice i have ordered meals to go, and twice I was disappointed with the preparation of the food. Chicken was overcooked and hard, noodles were old and stale, shrimp was bland. It's like they have a second rate cook preparing the to go meals. I have ate there twice and the food quality was very acceptable.
