Nice local sushi place where they do a nice job and you do not have to spend a fortune. The soups are great, the sushi is fresh and done with a creative flair. I had the Combination dish which included a variety of sushi, sashimi and a California roll for $22.00. I would recommend going Sun-Wed because all sushi rolls are 50% off...well worth it. My guest ate off the hot menu and they said it was very tasty. What a great addition to the village of Unionville. They get their fish in fresh three times a week (I had to ask!) You can tell in the quality of the sushi. They have excellent specialty rolls. My favorite is the Spicy Girl (spicy tuna and avocado with a thin slice of jalapeno and siracha on top. They have an outgoing bartender(lance) that mixes up his own creations and a friendly manager (peter) that truly tries his best to make us happy everytime we come in! read more

I live 5 minutes from Yume and enjoy it. Quality sushi right down the street. I appreciate that they have a diverse staff. The waitresses can be quick but I find that to be typical in sushi places. Get in, eat, get out. Not much lingering. The bar is usually busy for a sushi place. I LOVE the tempura California roll! Most of the reviewers on here seem finicky, I see the waitresses walking home each night through unionville center. They are just people trying to get the job done, don't take it personal. My only real complaint is that they close down in the middle of the afternoon for at least an hour. I have tried to go for some late lunch sushi several times and been turned down, watch out for that. They have half priced sushi on Sundays. read more

We discovered Yume a couple of months ago and have been back half a dozen times. We've usually ordered their hot food and that's been very good and reasonably priced. Tonight we sat at the sushi bar and that was a little disappointing. They don't seem set up to have a conversation with the sushi chef and just order different kinds of fish. When I said i wanted to order different kinds of sashimi they pushed me into the pre-bundled 16 piece item on the menu and didn't give me the opportunity to choose the fish I want. They also didn't have the variety of fish that I've seen in other sushi restaurants in the area. The sushi was good but not great. We will continue to go there for the hot food but will pass on the sushi. read more

Just ate here for the first time yesterday ~ lunch with the BFF ~ and WOW is it great! They were having a sushi sale... 40% off a list of specific items...and the food? Scrumptious! We each had a Kani salad (crab, crispy cucumber straws, panko, tobiko) and it was wonderful ~ crispy, cool and refreshing ~ and we shared three rolls: the Pearl Roll, the Shaggy Dog and a Kamakazi roll. They were all so delicious I was sad when it was all gone! LOL We agreed that we both felt happily full but not uncomfortably stuffed which is a great feeling to have after a yummy meal. (although had we ordered a fourth roll, I'm confident we'd have eaten it too!) I am psyched to have been introduced to this place ~ can't wait to go back! read more

I was there twice in the past and sashimi was mediocre, but I was nearby, had a coupon, and wanted sushi, so I figured I'd give them another try. Never again. All the red snapper in my sashimi dinner had gone bad--so bad that it tasted like mold and I had to spit it out. I have been eating sushi and sashimi for more than 20 years, and this has never happened. My ordering experience was very unprofessional. I went to order take out and a young inexperienced person at the cash register didn't know how to enter my order. I asked for ponzu sauce instead of soy sauce and some lemon slices. She didn't know what ponzu sauce was and had to get someone else to help her. The lemon totally mixed her up. (Ponzu sauce is a very common item in a sushi place.) I had a 20% coupon in my phone, but I had to search for it. After, I said that the $4.40 off was worth the effort to find it. She didn't understand that 20% off $22 is $4.40 and went back in the order to check and seemed quite perplexed. They should train their staff. Portions are also very small. The slices are very small, and had to eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to fill up. Even if the red snapper wasn't bad and I had 3 more pieces, it still wouldn't have been enough. The salmon and tuna were ok, but the 4th fish was tough, What is even worse is that when I called up to let them know, the manager argued with me. He didn't apologize. He wasn't concerned to find out what batch the bad fish had come from so no one else would get it. The only thing he offered was to give me a 20% discount without my having to bring the currently circulating coupon. This was not going to be an additional 20% in addition to the circulating coupon. He didn't want to comp me on the meal or replace it, but said he would give me 3 pieces of snapper. Not worth the drive to go for 3 pieces of fish! I'll just take my losses. Maybe they are good for other things, but not for sushi/sashimi. read more

My wife and kids brought me for a birthday surprise dinner. We had a fantastic time. My son and I had been for excellent lunches a few times. This was the first hibachi experience. Food was exceptional. Service was great. The chef did a great show, entertaining but not too crazy. Filet and scallops was delightful. Shrimp were also wonderful. Best birthday spot I can remember. Not the place to go for quick takeout during Covid-19 times. I was told the order would take an hour (3 sushi rolls and steamed dumplings). I arrived after an hour, and there were about 10-12 people waiting outside. After waiting an additional 20 minutes, I called and was told they were waiting on the sushi, and it would be another 25-30 minutes (for a total of 105-110 minutes). By the time my order came out, it had been 140 minutes from the time I ordered. I actually thought they would have given me new, hot dumplings, but no! They were ice cold! Never again! read more

So we went here with a group of 9 for hibachi. We had a reservation one week in advance and it was for 830, an hour and a half before closing time. Plenty of time. When the hibachi chef came, he verified our orders then cooked the food, served it, then left. That was it. No show or interaction with us WHATSOEVER. We have had hibachi before and they usually twirl their spatula, make a heart in the rice, fling pieces of vegetable for you to catch and squirt sake at you among other things. That's the whole point! You go for the show and the experience. He didn't do ANY of those things. We were shocked. The hibachi rice and mushroom soup were not good at all. The sushi was good and the wait wasnt too long for the food but I WILL NOT be going back for hibachi. It's unacceptable to charge people a pricey amount for hibachi food and not give them the experience. Our boss took us out as a reward for a good month's performance and we were all so disappointed because we were looking forward to this. We have resolved to take our $150-$200 tab to Ichiro in West Hartford next time instead. read more

I was excited to see a new restaurant opening in Unionville, as there are not a lot of good options in the neighborhood. I've been twice with my wife and we have stuck to the sushi menu each time. Both times we have been happy with everything we've ordered. The staff is friendly, the interior is clean and looks nice. Personally, I'm not a hibachi fan, but those who did partake seemed to be enjoying the show and having a good time. Yume is a welcome addition to the neighborhood and is now on our short list of places in Unionville we like to go out to eat. read more

Will not go back again. Yume (along with several of the local restaurants in the area) participate in a discount program if you purchase a $20 card from the sports booster club. Each restaurant has their own specific discount/promotion, and Yume's is the following: 15% off $20 or more excluding alcohol and gratuity. My son and I ordered some sushi, and he got a coke. The bill came to $25.46, and with the discount card they deducted .30 off the check. I explained first to the waitress, and then to the manager that there was a mistake, and that the 15% was off the total check, not just my son's coke. The manager continued to argue that the sushi was already discounted (they run 30% discounts off the sushi during the week) and that he would not provide any additional discounts as described on the card. Even though there were pretty specific instructions on the card about what was not already included, he explained to me that this was a mistake the school did, and they should have also excluded any discounted food as well. Rather than just discounting what the card stated, the manager would prefer to drive a customer away for about $4. I used to go here several times a month, but will not go back here on principle now. (And will share this information with all of my friends and family in the area) Very shortsighted, and horrible customer service. Word on the street is that there will be another sushi/Asian restaurant opening up down the street from this place in the coming months, and I know they have at least one new eager customer. read more

This restaurant was brought to my attention after seeing it countless times on Groupon. The reviews on here also sparked my interest. However it was not what I expected. The smell of the place was like cat pee. The service was okay- the waitress was quick to get us out of the place. I could have dealt with all of that if the food was good. However it was disappointing. I got the teriyaki chicken and fried rice- both incredibly bland. The teriyaki lacked a wow factor and the fried rice lacked flavor. The sushi rolls were decent- and the 40% off made them wicked cheap. All in all- ordering sushi is probably the best way to go. read more

I have ordered a la carte and also had the hibachi dinner at Yume. I enjoyed the hibachi. I do not really think that hibachi is entertaining beyond your first experience. That said, the chef was very entertaining and the food was good. I preferred their sushi/sashimi option. There was a very long wait to be seated, and I was not impressed with the service but the fish was good quality and the sushi was good. They do not offer very creative rolls but what they do, they do well. The service could really use some work so at best this is a 3/3.5 star dining experience. read more

Tried to use a Groupon at Yume and it turned into the most frustrating and terrible experience. Manager start to debate that the groupon was only good for the Hibachi and not the Sushi even though the groupon clearly stated it was good for either. Then he relented a little and let up choose, but only from the front two pages of the menu. The waitress recommended the shrimp and avocado which turned out to be a eight pieces of overcooked shrimp in the shape of a flower for $19. This Japanese establishment was very interesting. The waitress was a little slow, but she turned her attitude change tremendously. The air conditioning was very strong on the other hand. The food was extremely good. I had one of the chef's specials, which had shrimp, green bell peppers, and a small salad as a side.
