I always loved Zankou in LA. Despite the fact that this is a new location, the food and service seems to be on point . The hummus could use some work. I think the use of pre peeled garlic is giving it an off taste personally but that may just be me. Otherwise the tabouleh was good( a little heavy on the Bulgar) I would also not claim to make pita daily then hand out pre packaged pita bread. Zankou is sooo good! I had the combo kabob plate of steak and chicken. It was terrific with big chunks of juicy and very flavorful meat! The hummus is among the best anywhere and same for their classic garlic sauce. Service was great too! We tried this place for the first time last night. Ordered three dinner plates for takeout. Raves all around. One plate (~$17) could easily feed two and comes with everything you could want, including your choice of sides. The negative reviews are a bit surprising. The meat (chicken and tri-tip) was tender and perfectly seasoned. The rice just the right texture. The sides authentic and fresh-tasting. The pita bread isn't made in-house but is still a fresh, quality brand. The garlic sauce is delicious. I was greeted promptly and with a smile when picking up my order. I also appreciate that their online ordering doesn't prompt for a tip up-front. We will definitely be ordering from here again! read more

Disappointed with the tabouleh tonight. Usually good. It was way too salty. It ruined it. Let people add their own salt if needed. Also, had a falafel plate a week or so ago. It was good but there was a spice that overpowered the falafel balls. Seemed to have too much all spice or nutmeg. read more

(805) 370-0700 call Zankou in Thousand Oaks about their coupon usage. The server didn't honor our coupon as printed. Never returning!! The recent coupon presented on 11/22/23 had three special offerings, each outlined by dotted lines for a cutting-out for each one of them. Each individual coupon clearly states you can use only once. Unfortunately the server wanted my entire coupon, containing all three separate coupon, to be surrendered for only one order. When we protested she called, her supervisor speaking in a non-English language. She said you can only use the whole coupon once. I stated that is not what is stayed on the coupon. My party of three was disappointed with the printed (limited English) language understanding and the very poor customer service. We declared our refusal to patronize this particular establishment and left immediately. I trust you would under the same circumstances. From our perspective the ambiance was ruined by the cashier/server, no food was ordered based on breach of coupon contract, and the customer service should be renamed as manager self-service since the customer is to be taken advantage via false advertising on coupons. I was a die hard fan of Al Wazir in Weho for like 15 years, but when I moved, it was just too far. Whole chicken I required to be cut to 8 pieces and they didnt. The chicken was so blend no flavor what so ever. Then they give me dried up pickles when they belong in the trash. I completely agree with Camden on 10/17/23... Before the pandemic I was going to Burbank everyday and often had lunch at Zankou Chicken off the 134. When one popped up here in T.O., I was happy. Today was my first and will be my last. I ordered a TriTip Shwarma for $11.50 approx. Service was fine as they were not too busy and my order promptly came out. When I got to my car and opened the contents, the paper that wrapped the shwarma was drenched and dripping. As I tried to keep clean as possible, peeled the paper off and took the first bite. The shwarma was also super drenched. As I tasted the 'TriTip', it was very dry and essentially had no flavor what so ever. I had about 3 bites, and stopped eating. This was most of the shwarma - since these things are only about 5 - 6 inches in length... Anyhow, I think their quality is way down from those in Burbank and L.A. I will not be back, and would not recommend it to anyone. read more

Our first Zankou experience was a success. The food was delicious and generous! The staff was friendly and honest about the wait time for pickup, since one of our orders was the kebab combo plate which takes a little longer. The garlic sauce lived up to its reputation. I really wanted to leave a better review since they are new but dang.... Line moved pretty quick but all the tables had people with no food, so that should have been an indicator. The prices were ok. Chicken wrap- horrible, chicken was sparse and tasteless and the wrap fell apart. Kebab- steak was rubber,lule was fine but dry and the hummus was basic Tri tip shwarma was the only decent item. Pita was sad and served out of the bag they purchased it from, c'mon heat it up soften it. I will probably go back in a few months to see if they fixed some of their issues. read more

I love Zankou Chicken always went to the one in West LA. The staff needs a lot of training. They forgot our order we waited close to 40 minutes for a kebab plate and sandwich. I could have gone to a full service restaurant and been done in the time it took here. The most frustrating part is they didn't want to admit they forgot our order I could have taken an apology I know mistakes happen. Instead they made me feel silly for pointing it out. It was not busy at all that's how I knew and we saw people who ordered well after us get their food. There was some sort of rubbery smell and taste in the rice as well. I had a couple people recommend Zankou because they had visited the restaurant in the valley. I have to say that the falafel and hummus as well as their salads were delicious and fresh! My only question is, Why use store bought, dry pita bread? It is not reflective of the quality of the rest of the food and in actuality ruined the flavor of the rest of the food. I am updating my review as today I had a pretty poor and annoying experience....The service was slow and pretty unprofessional..the 2 cashiers looked annoyed by the patrons and they were not friendly both had a very negative approach they were not familiar with the register system neither the menu. The cashier who took my order consulted with a cook when I request to substitute a veggie item from my order for an even cheaper one and the cook said no so it wasn't done...which wasn't a bid deal but usually done in another locations. I also noticed that the prices at the restaurant are higher than the ones at the website...which doesn't make sense, I'll share the receipt and the screen shot of the website with the same items with todays date as proof. Also, happens that I got a coupon for a small side as I recently downloaded the app and I was told that this particular location doesn't accept any coupons or has any participation on any offers...The restaurant was pretty dirty and unattended and the ambiance was off as they had several people waiting on orders. I hope Management get their act together or this location won't last... there are many other options around, and bad customer service would drive people away. read more

Lousy experience. The "garden" salad was a huge pile of red onions, tomatoes and pickled turnips with a tiny bit of lettuce. Like an entire large red onion. WTF. Got a chicken wrap and a beef shawarma wrap. Bread dry and falling apart, tiny for the price. Too much of some mystery sauce. And served with another massive pile of pickled turnips. Must be really cheap to make those. Bought a cup for iced tea, no unsweetened iced tea in the Gold Peak machine and staff didn't seem to know how to replace it to get it working. We always get take out here, and most times the order is incorrect when we get home. Yesterday we went in and ordered, got home and no cucumber salad - we got some sort of turnips, which I don't eat. The time before that we were shorted the cucumber salad. Very disappointing. Why is it so difficult to get an order correct? Do a double check. Food is fine if you can get what you ordered. It's ok. Service was fair and to give them credit it was crowded and they all looked pretty overwhelmed. It's a new place but there are other locations so I expected a little better food. 1/4 chicken plate was small and the chicken tarna wrap fell apart. Fairly boring taste and aside from some chicken, a few diced tomatoes and a little sauce that was it. Dry and hard to eat. Had to get some hummus to make it more palatable. One person in our party asked for the chicken well done and it came out burnt like charcoal. They were nice and made a whole new plate. One other thing is I felt it a little hard to breathe due to grill smoke. They need a little better ventilation. If it wasn't so cold out I would have gone out side. Great grilled chicken with tasty marinade. I also loved the tomato and cucumber salad and always order a few extra slices of pita to dip in the garlic sauce. I look forward at a chance to try the tritip steak In a future order. . The meal plates are reasonably priced and you can order a whole grilled chicken for about 20 bucks which usually yields 2 meals. I am going to be one of their regulars. I am confused about the hype of this place, it's just mediocre. The whole chicken was over priced at $15. The taste was ok but it was over cooked. That seems to be the theme of this place as I also ordered the tri tip shawerma plate and it was over cooked also. Very dry! Yuck! The salad was fairly priced and decent but we didn't get any dressing. I guess you're supposed to use the tahini sauce as dressing? I had some from the tri tip plate but imo it doesn't make a good dressing. Probably the best thing is the hummus but it is ruined my the pita bread. It was like it was store bought?!? I hate to give bad reviews to a new place, but honesty hurts sometimes. Walked into an empty restaurant at noon (first bad sign). The whole place smelled of sewage, not overpowering but underlying everything. After a couple minutes you don't notice it, but maybe there's an issue that needs attention? Service was bad - 1 guy working the counter/cash register, 1 guy making the food. I saw my sandwich get completed and set out to be served, but apparently the guy making the food is not allowed to serve. By this time, cash register guy has a line of 4-6 people and he's supposed to also serve? (Assumption on my part, admittedly). So rather than wait for 10 minutes while he takes everyone's order, I asked food prep guy if he can hand me my pita wrap - no acknowledgement that I even spoke. Don't know if it's a language barrier or he's not allowed to interact with customers, but my food is getting cold. Finally some mgmt person who was sitting at a back table doing paperwork steps up, finds my order and hands it to me. Got back to my office and my pita wrap is just that - chicken breast, tomato, and pita bread. No sauce, no nothing. I was given a small side of pickled turnips (?) and some garlic spread, but that's all. Chicken is tender but dry as can be. Garlic spread makes it edible. For years I've waited for Zankou to open a place out here in Conejo area. Have always heard nothing but rave reviews about their food. Needless to say my first experience did not live up to the hype. Sorry guys - fix the smell, hire more workers, improve your customer service, and for the love of God, add something else into your pita wraps. Won't be returning anytime soon. read more
