People have always raved about Zankou Chicken ("the garlic sauce!") so I had been to the location in the valley a few times. It's good but not great and this location was no different. We went two hours before closing so the tri tip shawerma had been on the spit all day but it was so overdone, that it was chalky. A whole chicken, soooo dry the skin peeled off of it.. skin soggy.. no flavor anywhere.. so cheap they give u two tiny garlic half empty Two pitas For 17$ lol Business model is: let's get a less flavorful less juicy chicken than Costco.. add 25cents worth of bread and 1$ worth of garlic and sell it for three times the amount. The last meal my family had here made us all violently ill. It was the worst food poisoning I've ever had. When I called this Thousand Oaks location to notify them, a staff member listened to what happened to us, said the management wasn't there, took my phone number, and said the manager would call me the next day. Manager never called. I called every day for 3 days after that politely asking to speak to a manager to discuss food poisoning. I was always told they are aware of me and will call me back. They never did. I eventually tracked down someone named Judith who had told me she's not a manager, but other staff told me she is. She said she would talk to a different manager about giving me a refund for the meal but I have to wait two weeks due to a policy and they need a health inspection report to come back first. (That doesn't make any sense to me- a business can refund you if they want to refund you.) She never called back. I ended up reporting the meal purchase to my bank as fraud because I paid for a safe meal and it was not provided. If you search the web for health or FOOD INSPECTION REPORT for this location you will see a disturbing report from Ventura county this month showing the employees do not know which temp chicken needs to be cooked until it is safe, they are performing sanitization steps in the wrong order, among other worrying things. Not saying they can't learn or improve, but from my experience, this location doesn't appear to really care in general. Needless to say, I will never eat here again. read more

They got my order wrong. Being a Zankous customer for many years I could say that this location was a huge disappointment. Nothing like Van Nuys or Granada Hills! Hummus tasted spoiled! So unappetizing. Cucumber salad tasted old as well. Nothing tasted fresh. Sish Kabob was the worst I've ever had! And the chicken was dry and flavorless. Zankou's has the best moist, grilled meat and poultry and this place was garbage! I would have Imagine with the big staff they had in there that the food would be on point! But no. Unfortunately, they need to train their employees and make sure they take food handling courses. Maybe a visit or two by the health department. What I observed was shocking. They also make a very good hummus and a great muttabel (baba ghanouj). The falafels can be hit or miss. The atmosphere is kind of a white fast-food environment. This review is for this location. The first thing you'll notice is the awful bathroom stench as soon as you walk in, it's so strong I'm not sure how people are able to eat inside. The food was ok we got the combo plate and chicken was dry, beef was dry as well, my wife said it was ok, I said "reallllyyyyy" (insert Kevin hart here) here's the best part that awful stench was present within the rice, that rancid stench. So we think the rice was not properly washed or maybe they just used the bathroom water.. either way I'm probably gonna throw up and explode from diarhhea. Anyways I'm writing this in my bathroom.. Been to other zankou joints and those were like premium restaurants. This location however feels like I went into a back alley bathroom and dragged my tongue on the floor. I've been so excited for Zankou Chicken to come to TO since it was announced last year. I used to frequent the Encino location years ago and missed it since moving to the Conejo Valley. Lots of food for the money. The tri tip shawarma plate was bomb. The family chicken deal was enough food to feed a small army. Overall, a very good amount of food for the money. The action is in the sides. Don't just go order a chicken wrap and say "I don't get the hype". Get a plate, like the chicken kabobs or chicken tarna. I was happy to know they opened here but unfortunately this felling did not last after me dining there. Although the staff was trying to be nice but you can easily tell they are all inexperienced and they proved me right when the food came , the shawarma was cold, burned and soaked in the sauce, if you know anything about shawarma, this was not a good one . Welcome to the Neighborhood !! I was so excited when you first put up the sign & happy when I noticed you had opened. There was nothing like this anywhere in Thousand Oaks and was so needed. Just roasted, fall off the bone chicken, delicious & reasonably priced. Other local Mediterranean food locations don't offer the chicken cooked like this & it's my favorite. My Son got the Kabob Lula Plate & really enjoyed his meal. At first I was thinking that it was taking a long time to get our food. So I want to remind anyone reading this that when you order a kabob, it's not lying Pre-cooked in a pan ( you don't want that anyways) It takes time to cook under the flame. Be prepared to have a wait & try not to complain. Everyone we were in contact with was so friendly, helpful & for just opening a month ago, they are doing amazing. I have to say I thought the food was pretty darn good what I am not crazy about is the quality of the meat. Too much grizzle. I have been a longtime fan of Zankou, often traveling to the original locations as they are so tasty. Especially the Chicken Tarna. So I was quite happy to hear they were opening a location in Thousand Oaks. At first, and for a while, they just were not as good as the other locations, which are pretty reliable between all of them. Considering they are located on Chicken row, with four other restaurants specializing in the bird, they needed to improve their game. Well they have finally caught up to their sister locations. It's crisp moist and tasty, with the secret in that garlic sauce. And the pickled turnips are also such a great compliment too. I'd give the chain 5 stars, but as I have only experienced excellence here this one time, I am only giving it 4 at this time, and hoping to see it reach a consistency of the others. read more

My entire life Zankou Chicken has always been a treat and a quick family take out dinner for my family and friends since the time we moved to Los Angeles back In the early 80's. Original store in LA opened in Hollywood blocks away from where I loved as a child. My parents would tell me the stories of them going to the original spot in Bourj Hamoud in Beirut, Lebanon. Fast forward almost 40 years and the classic Zankou garlic sauce along with familiar scent of the rotisserie chicken in the store till this day releases the nostalgia and memories of growing up in Hollywood and staring at the Griffith park observatory as a child on the walk back home from Sunset Blvd. So when we moved out here from the valley a few short years ago we noticed that there really wasn't many middle eastern food options. I told my wife a year in after moving here that this town is missing a really good Zankou style rotisserie chicken spot as there is nothing like it. I swear the gods must have heard me somehow as my wife sends me an Instagram post from the Conejo valley guide anouncing that Zankou was coming to town, you can just imagine our excitement.. lol Anyways, we waited patiently in what felt like a lifetime for them to open and the time finally came when they did.. we basically binge ate there twice a week for like almost a month, that's how much we have missed it LOL. The food tastes exactly the same, yes there were days where the food was cold (mostly my shawerma) along with the service taking a while, but that happens with any business when you first open, trial and error, new local employees learning the process.. it happens. It's funny when I see these posts, but everyone has a right to an opinion based off their own personal experience. You can't please everyone.. Flavor has not changed at all, the food has always been the same with ofcourse the additions of the kebobs, salads and bowls that were added to the menu I want to say within the last 15-20 years. Zankou has always been a big part of my life along with many of my friends, family and the Armenian community. Negative reviews aren't wrong. I'm not sure if these folks got a bootleg Zankou franchise, or the boys at corporate selling them sub par chickens or not hooking them up with the proper spices but something ain't right here. We've tried this location a few times now and today we kept it only to the chicken...it still was not good compared to other Zankou spots. Owners need to take a field trip to the Glendale location or the Hollywood one and figure out how they do it, because this ain't it homey! We want Thousand Jokes to have a real Zankou, so let's get it together guys. Will try again in a few months, but this will be you last shot guys! read more

My friend and I got a whole chicken and they split it onto two plates. The price was very fair. I thought their chicken was delicious. The skin was tasty and the meat fell right off the bone. The garlic sauce was good, hummus was good, all the food came out fast, and the staff were very nice. I would happily return here. My friend did not care for her fountain drink, but I'm not going to dock them because we saw a guy attempting to replace the soda in the machine (I had water and cannot comment on the quality). Employees totally disinterested - walked out last visit a few months back as 4 employees were talking to each other for at least 7 minutes about personal stuff as 3 different customers were just standing impatiently waiting to order - ridiculous. Went in again today - employees totally disinterested and disconnected. Ordered a chicken shwarma wrap. It was just under $11 with tax. When it arrived I looked at it and then looked up to see if I was being taped for a hidden camera show. The wrap was laughab tiny (about 4" x 1 1/2") and it contained a few chips of chicken and hard broken apart pita bread with their delicious garlic sauce and some little pieces of tomato. Ate it in 3 bites. Not a lot of money but a total waste for what it was - less than a snack. Used to eat at Van Nuys and Tarzana location all the time. Not going back here, can only imagine if this is what you see. read more

My wife and I could get out of there without spending nearly $50 bucks. They charge for every condiment and over charge for every item. Not worth it and the wrap I ordered looks like an appetizer or $12.00. Again, total rip off. Prices are ridiculously high for nothing. Chicken was dry. 3 tiny tomato cubes on the whole wrap.
