Overall, a good experience! We purchased the Stubby Tub with 8 fish pieces, fries, cole slaw and hush puppies. The fish was hot, tasty and the batter had a light crunch. The fries were ok but we could have used more. The hush puppies were good and the cold slaw was delicious. We asked for ranch and they gave us extra but they forgot to include tartar sauce and eating fish without tartar sauce is a sin, lol! Again, overall it was good and we will be back to try more soon. I was wanting some fish and chips and decided to go to Zekes. The cod is great, it was so good that I went back to back for dinner. The sides however, are really not that good. The fries are pretty bad, no seasoning at all. The service isn't that great either, they aren't rude, they're just kinda bland. I'm a fish and chips lover and recently had a very sad experience when my favorite fish and chips place in Dallas raised their prices and lessened their serving. I was in the area when I found this place and was really hoping it would be good! Pricing is definitely a win and the serving size is great. The fish itself was very good! I would say this is a more southern type of fish versus your standard english fish and chips but it was a fun change. We ordered 2 Fish and Shrimo combos ( 1- Cod / 3 Shrimp/ Fries/coleslaw which came with hushpuppies). The one piece of Cod was Enough- it was LARGE, HOT, and Tenderly Juicy. The Fries were cooked perfectly - and it was just the right amount so that I did not feel stuffed. The Coleslaw was really good with not a lot of mayo . Too much mayo is not good at all. The hush puppies were the B-O-M-B.. They were light with a spice KICK.. Had I not had fish & chips, recently, at a place in Roanke, I might have gone 4 stars. But with memories of Churchill's Fish N Chips, I think OK sums up Zeke's. I will give Zeke's 3 star now even though I'm still not a fan of the cod fish. I tired them a second time for lunch and still not great. My cod fish was okay I just feel there is not a lot of flavor. The fries did not taste great either. I increased the star rating for the shrimp which was very good shrimp. If I go back I will do the shrimp. The food comes out slow since they cook to order. Though their french fries are not the best around, their other sides, particularly their fried mushrooms are far above the others. Besides their cod fish, their made-in-house dill dipping sauce and tar-tar sauce elevates the food so well, it is one the main differential factors compared to other places. Zeke's seems to be a Fort Worth staple! One of my best friends was coming here back when his mom was still pregnant with him, and we are in our mid-late 30's at this point. He was back in town, unfortunately due to his mom passing away, and one of the stops he needed to make before going back home out of state was a stop at Zekes. We found out the original owner retired during our visit but the staff was really friendly and on top of their game, especially on a Friday evening. We got mushrooms as an appetizer along with their amazing hushpuppies. Of course some fish meals, my teenager who isn't really a fish person got a chicken meal and I grabbed a veggie plate so we could get a few more of the sides. Everything was outstanding, yes its going to be a bit greasy due to the nature of a lot of fried food, but all held up really well. Yes even the chicken at a fish place was good! I ordered some food here over the weekend for take out. Came home to find a mess in the bag. The clam chowder lid and containers all had a hole in it so it leaked everywhere in the bag. Half of my soup was spilled out by the time I got home. Their fish and chips wasn't all that great. The breading fell apart as soon as I tried to take bite. Fried shrimp was over cooked. Tartar sauce just tasted like mayonnaise with lemon in it. Cole slaw was completely bland, no flavor at all. But I did like their shrimp gumbo. Into each mouth a little deep fried goodness must fall. This homey lil' spot fries food to golden crispiness without greasiness. We went all out. We had the cod fish, French fries, hush puppies, oysters, sweet corn nuggets, and eggplant. It was a Friday deep fried fiesta. Everything was fried well and tasted good. The standouts were the cod and eggplant. I could have eaten just that. The oysters were really small. The cod is super fresh and flaky. The eggplant was some of the best I've had especially when dipped in that dill dip that comes with it. We also took advantage of the fact that it was Happy Hour (3-7pm) daily. The good news is that a happy hour pitcher of beer is only $6.25 ......the bad news is that you can only get Coors Light or Budweiser in that pitcher. LOL! We went for the Bud. You need some brew to cut all the fried food. There's an outdoor patio and extra parking spaces in the back of the building. On the inside is divey perfection - the "décor" and ambiance definitely provide a vibe that this place has been around since the 70's - I mean that in a good way.
