I really like Zekes! It's really close to where my brother lives, so I imagine I'll be coming back whenever I visit:) I discovered this gem looking through businesses on yelp that offer yelp cash back. My mom was excited, too, because they are also on United mileage plus dining. You order at the counter and they bring out your food when it's ready. Aside from fish and chips, they have soups, boiled shrimp, lots of other fried foods and random things like tacos, burgers and spaghetti. Nearly everyone I saw dining here had the fish and chips though, and for good reason. The pieces of cod are huge! The coating is crispy and delicious and the whole malt vinegar, tartar sauce, fried fish experience was a delight. As for the sides, the hush puppies and ocra were alright, nothing too exciting, but the corn fritters were my favorite! I will definitely be getting more of those next time! We also got half a pound of boiled shrimp to share.... I'd probably pass on that next time, too. For drinks, they offer great sweet tea, but they also have beer and wine. Lol. What accompanies fish and chips more than beer? The service was awesome. The girl working the register was very patient and made sure we ordered everything correctly. All the different combos and things can get confusing if you want to try a bunch of things. We sat outside on the little patio out back. I have been craving a good serving of Fish and Chips and have been disappointed in my attempts at finding that perfect crunch, firm but flaky fish served piping hot and not greasy. Do you sometimes go somewhere you've been before expecting a good meal and it turns out way better than you expected?!? That's what happened to us last week at Zeke's. First, they had the beer we wanted. Our favorite table in the corner was free. Only a few quiet diners at 4:30. The hush puppies were perfect. Then the cod was fried to perfection and the chips were excellent too. I don't know what could have improved that meal. Will return sooner rather than later with higher expectations next time. Not my first review of this place. My first was years ago. It was 5 stars. I hope that my visit last night was not normal. I noticed there was no line on a Friday event during rush hour. I thought that might be strange. I ordered 2 pieces of Cod, mushrooms and zucchini. They gave us our drinks and hush puppies. We sat down. The hush puppies were just warm, not hot like normal. We started eating them and our food came out fast. She said the zucchini wasn't ready yet and she would bring it. We started eating and the Cod was warm but normally burns your mouth. I tried a mushroom and it was warm but normally burns your mouth. We ate our food but the zucchini never came. After we finished our fish and mushrooms the waitress checked on us. We ask her for our zucchini. She politely said it would be right out. It came out fast. It was so hot it would burn your mouth. The problem with it was the portion size was smaller than normal. I think they forgot and stole from other orders. I am afraid it was disappointing at best. It is an effort to go over there. I've only ever ordered from ubereats from Zekes so I can't speak to environment or service, but I can say that are speedy with their food prep and consistent with their quality. I've ordered numerous times and received my food within 20 minutes every time (living about 10 minutes from the restaurant). The fish is never overly greasy and cooked to perfection even with the quality decline of ordering takeout. The fries could be a little more flavorful but I can't nitpick too bad since that's not their main specialty. Zekes always fulfills expectations. Fried cod is larger portions that stay moist and flaky to the center, 1,2,3 and fried sides eggplant, mushrooms, are wonderful. They have other options, and catfish as well. Reasonable prices and prompt made to order. Tartar and ranch are good dipping sauces and hush puppies have a bit of saltiness and just a bit of spiciness. Zekes is one of the first places a friend from tcu brought me off campus as he was a FW local, and I still regularly come back to Zekes now 40 years later. Easy access near 30 on Camp Bowie. Plenty of parking in front, back, and their private lot at the right end of the block. But never that crowded, some drive through or takeouts are lots of business also. read more

I drove 30 minutes for a fish and chips meal. Let me be clear a cod fish and chips meal. The place is kind of a dive but the food is good. I waited in line about 10 minutes and as soon as I got to the counter it was 2:30 the lady snatched the lunch menu down. I really wanted the lunch special of 2 pieces of fish, fries and 2 vegetable sides for $10.99. That seemed rude but I didn't want to make a fuss so I just ordered the meal deal instead. I guess for COVID's sake they didn't have condiments immediately available. I had to ask for salt, ketchup and anything else to be brought to my table by the waitress/hostess. I love the cod the catfish and yes everything is fried but I'm not on Camp Bowie maybe twice a year. The fish is consistently delicious, I get the combo work mushrooms and eggplant. The doll sauce for the veggies if to die or kill for. My sis always used the malt vinegar but I love the sweet tarter sauce you can't get anywhere else.
