Went again last night. For whatever reason, Zov's has become our favorite upscale-ish restaurant this year (been 5 times in 6 months). Could be the consistently stellar service (it's clear they appreciate people being there); Could be the excellent food (last night was the Mediterranean Salad topped with Salmon and the Short Rib pasta - last time was the kabobs and both burgers); Could be the wine list (and that there isn't a corkage fee on the first bottle you bring in). Just really enjoying ourselves. So appreciate that they take covid seriously and are a local, family-owned business who didn't give up. *Side note : The rice is very tasty but has pasta woven in and is definitely not gluten-free. read more

We had dinner at Zov's, in Irvine, about a week or so ago and were looking forward to it. The atmosphere is always nice and they have a good patio, with heaters if it gets cool out. We each ordered different items and when we were done, everyone said that their meal was good BUT because we had chose Zov's to celebrate a birthday, no one really said what they really thought. It was only over the next couple of days, I talked to the different people that everyone confessed that they had been unhappy with their meals. Per two people, who'd had the lamb burger, they both said the actual party was the only good party of the meal. There was too much stuff on it, cheese that they felt didn't go with the it and I think they both only ate the pattys and left the rest. I shared the short ribs pappardelle with my mom and we were both disappointed in the lack of short rib in the pasta. Another friend had the meatloaf, said it was just okay and did seem eat most of it. My nephew had the regular cheeseburger and I think he was the only on that cleared his plate! The one very positive thing we had was the Ridiculous Sundae (yes, that's what it's called) that our server brought us for the birthday girl. For years I've kept hearing about this place and finally came in for a lunch meeting and left forgetting about the lunch I had. While the service from Brittany was great, the food was below average. The starter the steak tostadas looked visually appealing until you take a bite and realize the beef was probably cooked yesterday and was just simply warmed as the order came in. The meat was chewy, old and cold. As for the entrees during lunch time, there aren't too many options but the angel hair pasta was one I was looking at with the addition of the giant meatball. The name itself says angel hair yet I was served spaghetti with done luke warm watery sauce. I asked for a side of meat sauce or shy red sauce so I got some of their canned red sauce on the side. The flavor was just bland and watery. The meatball again probably was made days ago and sat in the fridge before it was put in the microwave for my order. It was hard and burnt on the bottom and extremely dry. I should have said something but I was in a rush to leave so let it be. 1/2 off bottle of wine Tuesday's! I came here with a couple girlfriends last night, and Sarah was our server. Unfortunately we ate dinner before we arrived...cuz we were only interested in 1/2 off bottles of wine! But, Sarah convinced us that dessert would pair well with our wine selections. Who am I to argue with dessert??? I didn't take a pic of our wine or dessert, but I got the chocolate cake (I believe it was flourless because of the wonderful ooey gooey goodness. It was topped with ice cream and shaved chocolate. It arrived hot, and if I were to take a pic, all of the ice cream would have melted, and my decadent dessert would have been ruined. Trust me. Shout out to Guvasto for great service and extra dessert hook-ups! We came here because of the outdoor seating and proximity to our house. We made a reservation for 8 people to celebrate a socially distant birthday. We had a total of 1 kid, 2 toddlers and an infant, along with 4 adults. They sanitized the seats/tables and got us setup towards the very back of the outdoor seating area. No menus provided, but a simple snap of a QR code brought up the menus on our phones. I noticed that the menu was limited and smaller than normal, but it still had the best dishes available. We went with the Kabobs 2 ways, Cioppino special, Kids Mac & Cheese, Angel hair pasta, short rib pasta, and a Mediterranean appetizer platter to start. Food came out prompt and everything was tasty. At the end of the meal, we asked if they were still doing the Yelp check-in for the special sundae. Guvasto said don't worry, he'll hook us up. Once we got it, our friend asked if we could check-in a second time to get another sundae. He checked with his manager and said that's not a problem! I think I could come here for just the sundaes. The thing was enormous and had a lot going on. Chocolate molten cake, marshmallow fluff, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, and a cherry on top. If you're allergic to peanuts make sure you request it, as there's a good amount of peanuts sprinkled on too. Disappointing is the best way to describe our latest visit. Went on Father's Day. Made a reservation online and was not informed that there was a limited holiday menu. What we wanted to eat was not available. Service is typically a bit slow here, but today was worse than ever. The restaurant wasn't full so I'm not sure what the problem was. The folks at the table next to us were visibly upset wanting to leave but couldn't get their check. Portions were way too small. Some of us ordered the bananas foster French toast. The portion of French toast was comically small with, no exaggeration, four or five slices of banana. Bananas are so inexpensive so not sure why they skimped here. Hello. I called Zov's tonight. It was our first order here. The woman who answered the phone was kind and helpful. I called again to ask a question, and a man hung up on me twice!! Then my husband went in to get the chicken kabob, and it was terribly dry. Luckily he tasted it in the car, so he brought it back in. They offered to do it again, but of course, we wouldn't. This was our first and last time coming to the restaurant. I don't know what happened, but we're getting dry chicken in all restaurants. Each portion is good enough for one person, so price is a bit steep for what you get. Service could be a bit faster, but I know there's not enough staff for the amount of tables seated. Stand out must have dish was the appetizer plate full of homemade dips and briny olives. What a treat to have Zov's so close to where my family lives. It is a healthier alternative to the heavier burgers/pizza places nearby, but they still have a kids menu for the little ones. They get pretty busy and take reservations. I will say the service was lacking on our last visit. Had to ask for items multiple times from our server which has never happened to us ever before. We thought perhaps he was a little under the weather or something else because it was a bit bizarre. All part of the experience I suppose. This place has the best mules!! I had 2 or 3 or 5 mules, and a lemon drop. So so sooo good! From what I remember, we tried the hummus, lebni, calamari, lamb poutine and the kabob two ways. I'm arab and I can be super picky when it comes to Mediterranean food but I had zero complaints. Fur babies are allowed on the patio and we were seated next to a mini sheltie, aahhhh yes please!
