I am finally done with this location. Unfortunately it's in our neighborhood and we have delt with the hit or miss quality of both service and food for 10 years. Today I placed an online order around 11am for pickup at noon. When I showed up at 11:58, my order wasn't even being processed. And, there were no other customers in the place, but about 8 employees asking each other if they knew about my order. My friends and I stopped in here on a Friday night and were absolutely blown away by the service we received. We have a Z Pizza Tap Room location near our home town in Rancho Cucamonga and so we mistakenly thought that this location was the same. However, despite our initial disappointment we were thoroughly pleased with the food, beer, and most importantly service! We ordered a large pizza (Four Cheese and Pepperoni) and a 16 piece buffalo wings to share among 3 people. It was the perfect amount of food for 3 hungry twenty-somethings and tasted incredible too! My friend and I both took bites of the pizza and immediately exclaimed to each other "You can really tell it has 4 cheeses!!" Two of us chose to have a beer. We purchased our drinks and nursed them while waiting for the food to cook. They were nice and cold and we were offered frosted glasses as well which is always a nice touch. We mentioned to the staff that we thought they carried the Grapefruit Scuplin from Ballast Point but they didn't have any cold which was no problem for us. I got up to get my second beer when one of the employees mentioned he had a surprise for us. He had placed one of the Grapefruit Sculpin's on ice and was planning on bringing it out to us in a moment. The small gesture was above and beyond what was expected and we were genuinely grateful for the attention to detail. We chatted with him later about the possibility of offering happy hour options and the idea was something that we would DEFINITELY frequent this location for. Had to wait 25 mins for a pizza on a Sunday evening. We ordered a large Tuscan mushroom which was a favorite on the menu, a bit sweet because of the caramelized onions. As a New Yorker, I have to say I've been pretty disappointed with the pizza I've had in Cali. Maybe it's because the toppings, though good, tend to be sparse. I mean, only 1-2 sausage "coins" or one broccoli spear per slice? Come on! I like my toppings to nearly completely cover each of the slices. So when I read about Z Pizza, I was intrigued. Organic wheat flour? Thin crispy crust? And organic tomato sauce? I'm in.The toppings seem interesting too. My bf and I went there for the first time today and got the Santa Fe, which had chipotle pesto (I couldn't tell it was there), mozzarella, chicken sausage, red onions, corn, serrano chilies, tomatoes and cilantro. It was pretty spicy--spicy enough, in fact, that I couldn't really *taste* all the different elements because the chilies were burning my mouth. Taht said, I would've liked more of the toppings on the pie. I couldn't really tell that the corn was there, and I'm not sure if it's because the little niblets were overpowered by the presence of the other ingredients, or if the spiciness did it. Still, I'm intrigued enough to want to go back and try their other pies. The price is better than CPK, I think ($10 for a small pie). read more

I like their pizza, especially their gluten-free crust. Very thin and crispy. Their food has always impressed me. However, the customer service experience that I had it this specific location was disappointing. The staff wasn't pleasant and at times pretty rude. My friend ordered a small pizza at the same time I ordered mine (I had gotten my small pizza in about 7-10 minutes) and after 30 minutes went by and tons of people came through, she still didn't get it. So when we asked about it, they made it sound like we were inconveniencing them by asking. Finally after about 35 minutes, it was ready with no "Sorry about that long wait" or any type of sympathetic human emotion (almost as if they hate admitting that they do anything wrong). Also, even though I enjoyed the taste of my gluten-free pizza, the center wasn't very warm the way I like it. It was a little room temperature/cool, which hey, it can totally happen. I wasn't upset about it at all. But what was upsetting was when I told them about it and asked if they could run it thru the oven, they responded with "it shouldn't be cold" and "I don't know if we can run it through the oven again". Just not accommodating at all. And all I really expected was "Oh, I'm sorry, let me heat that up for you." They ended up doing it, but it was their attitudes that were disappointing. It was kind of a buzzkill to our lunch outing. When we left, all three of us simply said "well, we're never coming back to this zpizza." Sad. read more

To the franchise owner Zpizza - Eastbluff in Newport Beach, CA (whoever you are): I guess you're too busy or you don't consider your customers priority enough to call them back but maybe you will read this. Anyway that's the message that came through loud and clear from Brad the corporate guy who called me after I left a message about this store and your manager. Brad (corporate) first said you asked him to call me because you were traveling and didn't want me to wait until next week. After a pretty frustrating conversation with Brad, he said you really were not going to call me anyway, when I asked to have the owner just call me. Brad and your manager were defensive, dismissive, let's not forget kind of arrogant, and the experiences bugged me enough that I am now spending precious time writing this review. Seriously, other than people who have nothing better to do than call corporate about 40 bucks worth of pizza, who takes the time to actually call corporate and then write a Yelp review? Maybe someone who actually received really poor customer service? I know this little 'ol review won't put this place out of business or even make much of a dent in the ongoing business here. My 2 cents... I was NOT impressed with the product or the management at this store. I had to tell them what ingredients should be on the ZBQ and rather than a gracious response from the manager when I also asked about the quantities of sausage on my second pizza, a sausage/mushroom, in what according to Brad (corporate), the manager just had an off day and I guess I should understand that young managers are rude sometimes.....you get the point. The manager was damn rude. Brad (corporate) says he is coaching him. Brad (coach and corporate) was nice until I decided I didn't enjoy being talked at and started disagreeing with him. I interrupted him by saying "Dude." Then Brad objected to me addressing him as "Dude." He also set me straight on the new specs for Sausage and Mushroom and assured me my pizza met those. That made the problem go away because clearly I was completely unjustified. FYI Brad, Caden already filled me in on the new specs when I was at the counter in the store. Well there is my tale of Zpizza at Eastbluff in Newport Beach, California. Thanks for giving me confidence in the brand I thought I was enjoying since about 1992 or so. To the owner, there is a reason for the generally accepted policy of the customer is always right. It is true that many times customers are picky, grouchy because they are hungry, expect perfection, etc. I have 2 daughters in the restaurant business so I get that. This is from a loyal customer to the brand who has recommended it to untold numbers of people. healthy, healthy, healthy= you don't feel like crap after eating slice after slice. Each slice is around 150-350 calories, depending on how big a slice you have. The price for an XL is 20-22$, and their slices are huge. ...however, keep in mind everything is organic, so it probably won't fill you up as much as a huge slice of say...first class pizza. I don't recommend this pizza if you have a huge craving for junk food/pizza, because honestly, your craving probably won't be satisfied. On this occasion my husband and I stopped in to place our order for pickup.The person who helped us (Noe) was EXTREMELY professional, helpful, and friendly. He even offered us water while we waited and addressed us by name which is extremely rare. In an age where fast casual restaurants just want you in and out, it was refreshing to be treated with such care and attention as this time. I was staying in Newport Beach on vacation. I don't like renting cars at any place I go and wanted food that was within walking distance from the hotel. I was in the mood for pizza and after several minutes of checking places out online. I determine Zpizza was the place to go after I read that they had fresh veggies and organic products. I am big on whole, real food. After about a thirty minute hike to the place. I got a sausage pizza with red onions, arugula, and a spicy chipotle sauce. The sauce was a nice little surprise. Overall the pizza came from the oven to my table, everything was very hot, very fresh and all of it was enjoyable. If I saw another Zpizza I would not hesitate to come back. Good Food! read more

Ever since ZPizza had one of their original locations in Corona del Mar in 1987 I've been a fan. They have the old standbys such as pepperoni and mushroom, but pizza here just tastes better....they use better quality meats, cheeses, shrooms and sauces. They have also stood for innovation. I just ordered a pizza with lettuce on it; who'dathunk that aragula tastes wonderful on pizza? Minor quibble on the last pepperoni order--more sauce please! I enjoy Zpizza from time to time, but this 1 star review is solely for the arrogant manager at the Eastbluff location that I encountered today. The customer service/corporate number on their website has a recording to leave a message, which is even more frustrating considering I wanted to speak with someone about my experience prior to writing a review. It's been 4 hours and no one has returned my call. So - I went in today and ordered a small/personal pizza and a small drink to go, and waited for my order. I chose the "roasted veggie" pizza, minus the mushrooms and the zucchini (leaving the olives, peppers and onions for toppings). I waited about 15 minutes (totally understandable) and then walked out with my pizza and drink to sit outside and eat. Well, I couldn't. I waited a few minutes for it to cool, so that everything would not slide off of it, but no such luck. It was so loaded with toppings that it was a wet mess. I picked up a slice, everything slid right off, and the crust was sopping wet and literally so thin and wet that it was transparent. I went back inside and explained the sogginess to the kid behind the counter. He went to get his manager, whom was both within eye and ear shot distance. He told the manager, and the manager, looked at me, SMIRKED and said "what does she want?" He proceeded to come over to me and ask what the problem was. I said that the pizza was inedible. There were so many toppings that the pizza was wet and soggy and the "crust" was wet and transparent and none of the chess or toppings would stay on it. His reply "yeah, well, we don't recommend you order a pizza with so many toppings." "UM - yeah, well I ordered this pizza OFF YOUR menu" and as I was about to say, "minus the zucchini and mushrooms which could have only made it more soggy/topping heavy" but he rudely cut me off and said he was refunding my money for the pizza. Zero apology for the fact I had just wasted 20 minutes there for nothing. Zero apology for the fact that the issue was HOW heavy the pizza was made because they put too many toppings on it. Zero apology for the fact that I now had no lunch. He even went as far to ask if I had called it in - as if I had, that I had let it sit for too long and that is the reason the pizza was a mess. I informed him that no, I came in, ordered, waited for it, and then walked it back in after I tried to lift a slice. He still charged me for my lonely soda. Terrible service and he was just so smug, arrogant and condescending (tall, dark hair). Nice "management." Here's a hint - don't put a pizza on the menu that is going to fall apart and be a wet, soggy mess. Imagine if I had ordered it as is (with 2 additional veggie toppings)?! Maybe don't put 100 of each veggie topping on the pizza. And DEFINITELY do not blame the customer for the fact that your pizza turned out to be inedible. Oh, as I was leaving, he told me I could "have the pizza if I wanted, because he was just going to throw it away." Thanks - but no thanks. If it were edible, I wouldn't have brought it back in! Bummer. I can understand a bad pizza and the mistake. What is not ok or excusable is a manager that is rude and has horrible customer service skills. Total disappointment. Excellent piazza, for west coast. Having lived in Brooklyn for a number of years I got spoiled on some of the finest pizza, I'll go out on a limb and say, in the known universe. While ZPizza isn't a Gramaldi's or a Lombardi's, it is a respectable pizza. They have many more healthy related options like whole wheat and something with pine nuts on it my wife loves. I think to legally be called pizza it should have a meat product on it and cheese, not this white junk. Having said that ZPizza can satisfy all. Large thin crust with melted cheese and large crispy pepperoni with delicious pools of super heated pepperoni grease, begging to harden your arteries. Mmmmm. I don't think it's fair to give them *however many yelp stars* due to the one out of 78 (or more?) different combinations/choices of pizzas you can get from here. Unfortunately I ordered a pizza that was not one that I favored... I got the Chicken Sausage Rustica pizza. I think I wished for a more tangier taste. It's definitely on the healthier and lighter side, and the sausage wasn't meaty enough for me. I looked around at what other customers got and it seemed as if they got the popular classic pizza choices that are already made in advanced and displayed at the front. Their service is sometimes less than stellar, though to be fair my worst experience was when I ordered delivery during Super Bowl Sunday (I'm not a football fan, didn't realize) and they didn't bring the brownies I ordered and refused to bring them when I called and said, "Hey! Where are my brownies!". Then I asked for a refund and the guy agreed but they never refunded my card. Finally, I went in in-person and ordered pizza and asked them to deduct it from my total. They accommodated, but I was still mildly annoyed. Damn them for their tasty Sicilian Volcano. Honestly, the Sicilian Volcano is the only reason I like this place. We ordered pizzas for dinner at this location two days ago. When I arrived, I saw three employees working there. One was eating with his bare hands and another employee was sweeping the floor. When they saw me come in the store to pick up my order, the employee that was eating put on his mask and grabbed my order from the warmer and gave it to the other employee who was swiping the floor, who handed me the pizzas. Neither of the employees washed or sanitized their hands. I expected these employees to be washing or sanitizing their hands when one is eating with his bare hands, which touches his mouth, and the other employee touching the dirty broom. However, it does not seem that this location follows proper sanitary standards. read more

This place is going downhill. Walked in at tail end of lunch and got a coupla cold, dry slices...Meh. You can tell a place isn't well cared for by how empty their condiments are. In the line of 5 tables, EVERY pepper and cheese dispenser was on it's last 10% of crusty remains. I brought several to my table just to make do and even tho the guys were doing nothing behind the counter they didn't even take the initiative to come and fill them up.
