Amazing food. The service was great and the fish was super fresh. Music was loud but we can still hear each other. Great time.

We went for Christmas eve dinner. We were four people and ordered the seasonal omakase. All courses were great, it was way more than enough food. The kitchen had a little mixup and some of our dishes were delayed but they really made it up to us. The waiter and manager stopped by to apologize and brought us an extra dish on the house. Drinks were great too, the lychee martini and espresso martini were great

This place definitely gives 10/10 ambience it's just so breathtaking!!!! Every corner is just so beautiful they also have upstairs dining with a live DJ. The bathroom is so beautiful The service is also amazing! Our waiter was just so informative, very kind and supper attentive! The food was SOSO the plates come out as they are made so everyone was eating at different times. We also were told that they are ment to be shared, but they serve small portions. The drinks are not strong at all! Also they tired to include 2 infants to the party/bill lol ( no high chair, no stroller. Just a infant sitting on moms lap) Overall we did have an amazing time!

So far this is first spot that I saw that allows people to choose 3 appetizers, 1 entree , and 1 dessert for their restaurant week menu. At first, I thought there was a mistake, where it's total you get 3 item, but no. You start with 3 appetizers. (I actually had to ask the waiter again after he informed us.) Big Win because I always want to try everything and they had quite a large selection of appetizers to choose from! We ordered: Appetizers: Sliced seabass sashimi (yuzu, truffle and salmon roe) Yellowtail sashimi (green chili relish, ponzu and pickled garlic) Salmon tartare (ikura) Prawn and black cod gyoza Spicy yellowtail roll (serrano pepper, avocado and wasabi mayo) Spicy tuna roll (green chili, spicy mayo and tobiko) Entree: 7 oz Barley miso marinated baby chicken (oven roasted on cedar wood) Black cod (marinated in saikyo miso wrapped in hoba leaf) +12 Dessert: Green tea ice cream Guava sorbet Ngl, even with the restaurant week deal, it is steep especially for a lunch. However, the fish is really fresh and the place is well decorated. I'm glad that I got to try it. (This is why you try different places during restaurant week!)

Zuma never disappoints. We absolutely love the sushi, and the hand rolls were incredible especially the spicy tuna and salmon avocado. Every single bite was packed with flavor. The ribeye steak was cooked perfectly and just as delicious, and we also really enjoyed the corn and cauliflower both were standouts. Such a great dining experience all around, we'll definitely be back! Also, if you are deciding for dessert get the cheesecake!!!

I had high expectations for Zuma despite the middling reviews. My expectations were dashed and alas I was disappointed. The food, service and ambiance are all fine, hence the three star review. There are far better Japanese dining options in the area to warrant a return visit to Zuma.

I'm surprised by the low rating! I love Zuma I've been to the Vegas one too and it's one of my favorite restaurants. The food is so good and I love the sexy vibe of the restaurant. The upper lounge was so fun to sit at. Would totally go back!

    Not good.

Ima make this short n too the point. I know good food. The service was great, ambiance beautiful. The food?! Exceptionally BAD!!!! Wow not one thing did we love. ALL FISH, raw or cooked was FISHYYYY!!! Gross!! I know this is not top quality grade A fresh fish. There's just no way. I will never come back. EVER. My friend spent a lot of $ for this room and no one ate. Do not come here, unless it's just for drinks.

    Beautiful Decor.

I'm usually leery of glitzy chains that offer Americanized "Asian" food served up with an impersonal vibe, so had some trepidation about booking dinner at Zuma. However our actual dining experience there was authentic and wonderful. Presentation, service, food quality and value were off the charts. Zuma's sake and liquor menu included some excellent, reasonably priced selections as well. The downstairs dining area is drop-dead gorgeous, decorated with beautiful light tubes and organic wood for a hip yet classy vibe. Ordered the seasonal omakase dinner, a good way to sample a number of dishes on offer. Fifteen+ courses of deliciousness including pristinely fresh maguro, yellowtail, sea bass, and caviar arrived in short order, a treat for the palate and eyes. We were amazed that Zuma's omakase includes yummy cooked items as well; the grilled veal chop and truffle butter baked potato were simply amazing, as was the huge cut-up tiger prawn resting in its own shell. Spicy fried tofu w/avocado salad and veggie tempura were light and healthy. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better a beautiful dessert of fresh fruits, sorbet and chocolate lava cake arrived to top off the feast. Just wow, it was so much food that we had to take some home (no problemo:). We sat at the counter and enjoyed friendly, knowledgeable service by Alan throughout the evening. Great spot for a special occasion. Look forward to a return visit.

Zuma is a restaurant that is known for its ambiance and the ambiance did not disappoint. It is dim lighting with darker accents and mood lights. The bar is really beautiful as is the hallway leading to the restroom. Volume gets pretty loud around dinner time. Food was average, not great not bad. We shared the calamari, shishito peppers, rock shrimp, spicy tuna maki, toro maki, steak tartare truffle appetizer, skirt steak and desert platter. Standouts for me were the toro maki- very buttery fresh fish and the skirt steak - cooked to perfection and came with the most unique delicious green dipping sauce. Other dishes were just alright especially the calamari (too salty) and rock shrimp (overly fried). We tried a variety of cocktails and wine which were all great. We rounded out the meal by sharing the dessert platter- our favorite thing was definitely the molten chocolate cake! Service was fine although definitely seemed like they were overwhelmed at times. I would recommend this for drinks or if you are truly just coming here for the ambiance.

Zuma Restaurant -- looks amazing, but the experience was disappointing. You can fix bad food. You can't fix bad service. We came to Zuma to celebrate my birthday, hoping for a great night -- beautiful place, good food, nice atmosphere. It started well... until we got to our table. Or better to say, our "seat": at the bar, with our backs to the main dining room and facing the sushi bar. (Check the photos) Instead of soft background music, we heard kitchen chatter and clattering of utensils. Instead of warm, cozy light -- harsh bright work lights shining right in our faces. For $500+ for two people, this was not the kind of experience we expected. We tried three times to improve the situation -- even suggested maybe a small table lamp to make it nicer. But the best the manager could do was send us two glasses of prosecco. (Spoiler: it didn't help- A little advice to management: before giving a free drink, check the bill and offer something your guests actually like. It's a small thing, but it shows care -- especially in a restaurant like this. Otherwise it felt like just a formal gesture rather than real care) And the "cherry on top" was the dessert. We asked them to mark it with a candle or a simple "Happy Birthday" message. Do you think they did it? Of course not. Seems like at Zuma, hospitality stops at serving the food. Now, to be fair -- the food itself was excellent. The quality and taste really deserve 5 stars. But in New York, there are many other restaurants with the same price level where the service matches the food, and you feel like a welcomed guest, not just someone filling a seat. We tried to enjoy the evening anyway, but if it wasn't my birthday, I think we would have just left -- like some other couples did when they got the same bad seating. So my advice: if you want to celebrate something special at Zuma, think twice. Beautiful design can't hide bad service. Your special night can easily be spoiled.

Zuma is a classy, smart casual Japanese restaurant. I visit this elegant restaurant for my wife's birthday. First of all the area is perfect for transportation close to Bryant park and other subway station. The food is delicious and well prepared. I started with the seaweed salad with sesame dressing. This salad is tasty and the sesame compliment the seaweed. The grilled scallop had a unique palate. Great customer service, worth the visit.

The slices aren't thin, delicate, and melt-in-your-mouth as one usually gets in a sit down; they are extra thick, and I had to really bite down on some of the pieces. The rice was nicely seasoned and was cooked well + portions are also big to match those thiccccc salmon slices. To be honest, I was getting a little nauseated after 5 pieces, haha~ They were definitely delicious but I'd probably just eat 3 or 4 pieces and share with a friend! It was easy to text the number on the website and coordinate a pickup time, and the staff was friendly when I arrived. konban is a modern Japanese restaurant that focuses on creative takes on classic comfort dishes,…read moreespecially katsu, noodles, and small plates. We walked into a stylish, energetic space with a menu designed around sharing, making it a good option for a casual dinner or group meal. The interior has a contemporary, lively feel with an open kitchen that adds energy to the room, and the seating is arranged to accommodate both small groups and larger parties comfortably. Instead of sticking strictly to traditional Japanese dishes, the menu mixes familiar flavors with more modern presentations, creating a dining experience that feels both approachable and exploratory. The standout item is the katsu, which is where the restaurant really shines. We ordered the pork loin and tenderloin versions and found the breading crisp while the meat stayed tender and juicy, the crust holding up well without becoming greasy. The mazemen is another highlight, with chewy noodles and a rich sauce that brought a lot of flavor without feeling too heavy, the sauce coating each strand evenly and the toppings adding layers of texture and depth. Beyond those, dishes like the butter scallops, corn ribs, and seafood options added variety and made it worth ordering multiple plates to share. The scallops were well seared with a buttery finish, and the corn ribs offered a smoky, slightly charred flavor that paired well with the richer dishes. The desserts are also a memorable part of the meal. The corn ice cream is one of the more unique items, with a sweet and savory flavor that sounds unusual but works surprisingly well, the sweetness of the corn balanced by a subtle savory note that kept it from feeling cloying. It fits the restaurant's overall approach of taking familiar ingredients and presenting them in a more unexpected way, and the creativity of the dessert menu feels consistent with the rest of the meal. Service and atmosphere add to the experience, with attentive staff and a lively dining room that feels suited for groups. The team checked in at the right moments and kept the pacing of the meal comfortable, and the open kitchen added a layer of engagement as we watched the dishes come together. Reservations can be difficult to get, especially during busy times, and the small plate format means the best experience comes from ordering several dishes rather than focusing on one entree. The variety across the menu encourages sharing, and the pacing of the meal works well for a longer, more social dinner. konban delivers a well-executed modern Japanese dining experience. While some of the more hyped dishes may not completely live up to expectations, the katsu, noodles, and seafood dishes make it a worthwhile visit. The combination of creativity, quality ingredients, and a lively atmosphere makes it a destination for exploring different flavors and dishes together rather than just ordering one signature item, offering a meal that feels both engaging and satisfying.

The ube tiramisu was free since we wrote a google review for the restaurant. Everything was delicious and the zucchini was surprisingly good as well. The pork was so tender. the ebi tempura were huge, and the mazemen was thankfully not spicy. However, the scallops could've been more tender and we we were all unimpressed with the ube tiramisu. Overall, I would come back and would definitely recommend konban! Get the corn ribs, zucchini, pork katsu, and corn ice cream! I've taken a lot of friends here over the course of 10 years, and without fail, every one of them has walked out mindblown--and why wouldn't they?! The wait times have gotten better over the years (probably because people are waiting for the restaurant next door), but the food and drinks here are still top-notch. Staff is always great, and they all work so efficiently. I am generally a fan of izakayas, but there are very few that offer plates that are designed to be shareable, and this is one of the reasons the food here is so enjoyable in a small group setting.
