On our way to the airport, we had to make one final stop at ZuZu after seeing its impressive gin selection. After spending time in Spain, we've become fairly tough critics when it comes to tapas and pintxos, so our expectations were high. Thankfully, ZuZu delivered a memorable experience. We originally came hoping to find a Basque cheesecake, but instead discovered their Basque cake. My husband absolutely loved it. It was rich, flavorful, and a wonderful surprise that more than satisfied the craving. The cooling sangria was exactly what we needed on a warm Napa afternoon. Refreshing, balanced, and not overly sweet, it paired beautifully with the relaxed atmosphere and felt like the perfect way to unwind before our flight home. For dessert, I ordered the chocolate mousse, which was perfect for a warm Napa afternoon. It struck a wonderful balance between light and indulgent, with a rich chocolate flavor that never felt too heavy. It was the kind of dessert that leaves you satisfied without slowing you down, making it the perfect treat before a long walk through Napa or heading to the airport. While our stop was brief, ZuZu left a lasting impression. Between the impressive gin program, refreshing sangria, thoughtful desserts, and lively atmosphere, it was a wonderful final taste of Napa before heading home.
This place is tiny and the tables are packed pretty tight. It's a pretty loud setting, great for certain occasions. The service wasn't great. The server had no smile on her face and didn't bother to explain the menu and their specialities to us. When I had a question on a certain item, I felt she was irritated to answer and made me feel dumb on why I wouldn't know that already. She also missed ordering an item that I had placed. And because my party and I didn't feel welcome, we ended up leaving early without ordering further. There were other examples of poor service but I will bare the community the details. The worst was they charged 20% gratuity automatically for large parties, but they certainly didn't deliver. I am typically fine with auto gratuity but you have to provide service too. Food wise- the ceviche was bland. The skirt steak was flavorful and well executed. It's too bad that their service ruined it all. There are plenty other restaurants nearby that would be happy to earn my business.
We had such an amazing experience, it was definitely a combination of our amazing server Damien, who led us to the perfect cocktails, and the perfect meal with just the right amount of attention not too much not too little very professional, but very personal as well and very knowledgeable the food was outstanding. I think our favorite was the peach goat cheese salad. My husband was in love with the Gambas Al Ajillo, the broth was to die for and they brought bread to sop up all the goodness. The Queso Frito was very yummy, as well as the Akaushi Flat iron steak. Can't wait to return!
Walking in downtown Napa and we passed by Zuzu. Ot was inviting and the idea of tapas made us all excited. We were seated at the counter height table so it was a bit uncomfortable with a child but its not too big of a deal. Our orders were croquettes, mussels for small plates and we ordered the zuzu paella and paella negra. We had daiquiri and singapore "something" for our drinks. Everything was tasty and good! The paellas were both delicious and the mussels has a great balance of citrus and savory! We were seated outdoors and the vibe was great! It just took a while for the check and one of the orders was late. Overall I would definitely come again for a good Spanish cuisine!
We escaped our little ones to celebrate our anniversary at Zuzu on a Thursday evening. It was a perfect and much needed date night! Located in the very pleasant and walkable downtown Napa area, we parked in a nearby structure at no charge around 6pm. The restaurant itself has a casual, welcoming ambiance with tables indoors/patio and upstairs. We started off with some strong drinks - I got the Sazerac pomegranate style and Wifey ordered the Singapore Sling. Foodwise, we ordered the Ceviche del Dia, Pan Fried Manchego Cheese, Chicken Croquetas, Gulf Shrimp w/ Garlic, and the Flat-Iron Steak. The shrimp was ridiculously flavorable, and the tastes still lingered on us all the way home. Our medium-rare flat iron steak was perfectly done - tender in the middle and seared nicely on the edges with whatever amazing stuff they put on top of it. We had a great time sipping our drinks, chatting, and enjoying our tapas plates one by one. Our server, Tony, was kind, helpful, and didn't rush us through our orders. Thank you, Zuzu, for a wonderful time celebrating our special evening!
Stopped into ZuZu on a Saturday night with no reservation and we were seated pretty quickly. This was our first time dining here and our lovely waiter gave us all the best recommendations and picked an amazing bottle of Albariño for us. My favorite foods were the ZuZu Paella, Chicken Croquetas, and the Banana Tres Leches. The restaurant has such a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for long date nights!
Sad to say that ZuZu didn't really hit the mark. I will say that the atmosphere and vibes were immaculate. The restaurant is located in downtown Napa and it's beautiful. There's a live guitarist across the street playing music, with the street lights and people wandering out (this part was great). Now to the not so great parts: -The ceviche came out first, it was very bland. It had very little seafood and was mostly Jicama (the sweet white root vegetable). The chips were okay. -the paella's rice didn't have those crispy edges. It was all extremely mushy. The amount of seafood was very generous but it was also bland. Most of the flavor came from the lemon and squid ink. -the steak pieces were very flavorful. This was the best part of the meal. However, for $50 I would find this more enjoyable if i had a couple more bites? But, I know as a tapas restaurant the plates would be small (although wasn't expecting it to be this small). Overall, the service was alright. Our server was extremely busy so I can tell they were not as attentive as they wished to be. It did take a long time for somebody to come take our order but that didn't take away from the experience at all. TLDR: come for the vibes not the food
My bf and I made a reservation for the same day weekend easily. We arrived slightly early around 5pm and were seated without a wait as there was no one there. We got to sit upstairs. Ordered Jamon 5/5: this is so good and a great size for a couple to share! It came with two pieces of toaste ( garlic or olive?) Paella 5/5: delicious! It was a seafood and chicken paella. It comes with a lemony sauce that you can mix in. We had it the day after and it still hit so well haha Steak with chimichurri 5/5: im not a big steak person but this was good! The sauce was great. Parking: free lots nearby or street Overall I would come back for a nice date night or a meal with friends/family!
Our group of 3 dropped by Zuzu around 7pm on a Saturday, and were placed on the waitlist and told to return when we received a text. We walked around downtown and enjoyed looking at the Lighted Festival installations for around 30 minutes until we got a text to check back in. There are actually two entrances to two rooms that are adjacent to eachother, and we were seated alongside the wall across from the bar. The space is dimly lit and cozy - definitely a little tightly packed but still with enough space to have a conversation without needing to shout. We got an assortment of tapas and the Zuzu paella to share - everything was excellent, but we especially enjoyed the ceviche of the day, the bacalao, and the paella. The 4 tapas and the paella were quite filling for the 3 of us, despite our inital concerns that the paella looked on the smaller side. The paella had a very generous amount of seafood, and was very flavorful - the texture of the rice was excellent as well. I'll definitely be back for tapas and paella at Zuzu! It's probably best for couples and smaller groups, and can definitely get busy, so I would plan ahead for a short wait :)
This was a vey mixed experience. I would rate it 3.5 stars. My husband enjoyed his meal, while I did not. The stand out dish was the mushroom freido, it was perfectly seasoned and came out hot. My husband enjoyed the lamb chops (special of the day). The queso tapas was just alright, I think it would have tasted better had it been a little warmer. The flan cheesecake was a tiny sliver, and more cheesecake than flan flavor. The gin and tonic of the day came in a giant glass, and seemed a little watered down. The negroni was fine... The service was great, our server had the deepest voice ever heard to man, he took good care of us.
We enjoyed our lunch at Zuzu. This Spanish tapas restaurant has good food and great service. We sat outside and the weather was perfect for a mid-day lunch. The decor was cute and inviting. We ordered the following: Lamb chop: over-cooked but tasted pretty good. It came with Mediterranean bbq sauce (3.5/5) Patatas fritas (4.5/5): very nicely fried and the potatoes were seasoned well but the sauce left some to be desired. It kind of tasted like chipotle in adobo from the can. Flank steak (4.75/5; delicious . Perfectly cooked. Great chimichurri but no jalapeño. Biggest complaint is that the description of this dish wasn't accurate. Lamb tartare (5/5; great seasoning texture and bread. One of my favorite dishes of the meal. Dungeoness crab filo dough special (Tunisian brik pastry- 4.5; amazing egg w runny yolk, lots of crab, green onion good flavor balanced and unique. Queso frito (5/5; great taste and seasoning. Perfectly fried and salad was awesome Drinks: Agave blossom (4/5; pretty strong but nothing phenomenal) and espresso martini (4/5: decent but I've had better.). Overall, we had a very satisfying meal and there were some stand out dishes in our meal.
This place was unfortunately a letdown. I was excited to try ZuZu after seeing positive reviews online, but nothing really matched my expectations onsite. First, we had a wait of about 20 minutes to be seated for dinner, which was reasonable. However, our waiter left us hanging for over 15 minutes before taking our order. It was so hard to flag someone down, and the food also took almost 40 minutes to come out. At this point, we were just so hungry that anything tasted good. The paella was alright, but I wish there were more crispy edges. The portion also said for two, but I honestly felt like I could've eaten the one plate on my own LOL. Overall I didn't feel like the price justified the value.
After a lovely day wine tasting in Napa we were craving a Spanish Tapa's type restaurant that had Paella and we found ZuZu downtown nestled among other restaurants across from the river. They offer outdoor and indoor seating with well thought out cozy Spanish style decor that was impeccably clean. The service was extremely prompt and attentive. The food was absolutely on point! From the white anchovy salad to their house ZuZu Paella, the freshness and flavor really stood out. The overall experience was memorable. TLDR- expensive, slow, bad service. A group of 5 of us visited ZuZu for dinner- even though we planned to spend $$$ for dinner since we were in Napa, we left without order another round of tapas. Each dish arrived to our tables every 15 minutes, so we got a small bite and waited for the next. They failed to even bring bread to the table, and never checked on us. I'm rating Zuzu a 4 for the food, but a 3 for service. Came out to Napa for our anniversary. Wife likes tapas so this was a good find. We came earlier than our reservation but they accommodated us right away with seating on the front patio. We ordered the gambas, potato tortilla, salt cod, flat iron steak, and the Zuzu paella. Shrimp came out quickly with a nice spicy sauce, but wife didn't like the head on shrimp. Salt cod was nice and fluffy, and the steak had a nice chimichurri-style sauce. Paella had nice chunks of chorizo and chicken, and moist clams. There wasn't much of a crusty fond tho. Service was hit and miss. Second server was much more attentive. read more

Terrific late night bite. We were a table of 4 and Loved all of the dishes. Pear Salad loved the flavors and dressing Paella for 2-we got the seafood with black rice and this dish will have me returning again & again, amazing and bountiful seafood, fish, shrimp, squid, scallop, mussels 4 lovely doused shrimp with a side of fresh bread , some sucked the juices out of the shells. Came on a lovely warm evening and had a chance to snag a table outside while we people watched. No reservations but everyone after us did, so we got lucky with our seating. We stopped by here without a reservation while on vacation and luckily, they were able to squeeze us in. The food and service were great. There were a couple of yummy specials, which we tried. So so so good. Devil eggs were so good and so as the Lamb Tartare. The Paella, they can definitely do more better its good but not the best out there. OMG! The espresso Martini I saw them make fresh espresso which made it taste so good. Service by the bar was also great. They made us feel comfortable. Small space inside though. Went to ZuZu for the first time for lunch and honestly, it was a bit underwhelming. We went on a weekday during lunch so basically no one was there but service was poor. It took over 35 minutes to get our drinks (even though it was not busy) when I brought it up to our server she asked which drinks I ordered..? Barely any table touching which was also upsetting because the other two tables there, were already sat and settled so I felt like more attention to detail could have been given. I saw the other tables checked on more and even though I did mention initially that I'd probably order a few rounds of food, we would just need to flag someone down to order rather than being checked on. I thought the steak was tender and I enjoy tapas in general so I can try a lot of things. The croquettes were okay. It was crispy but I felt that the chicken was rather dry. I loved how the shrimp was prepared and the sauce that the shrimp was sautéed with was good. I think it paired nicely with the bread. I am unsure if we got the service we received because we look young or something? But I just expected more. It's a casual restaurant and I was really excited to go here so left a bit disappointed. Date of Visit: 2/1/2025 We love to visit Napa downtown and Sonoma Plaza during rainy days, since it was very comfortable sitting in a restaurant or wine bar, enjoying wine and foods and listening to the dripping sounds of the rain. We went to Napa downtown last Saturday when it was raining, and we decided to visit Zuzu located near Napa River for late lunch/early dinner. We didn't make reservation but just walk in. There were plenty of seats around 4pm, and was quite packed by the time we left. We were first sat on the first floor below the stairs, and decided to ask the server and moved upstairs by the window. Although it was a rainy day, but the view was quite amazing. We could see the Napa River clearly and the street below. 2022 B. Kosuge "The Shop" Pinot Noir $18 Husband got the Pinot Noir from Carneros, with the taste of wild cherries, lilacs, and cranberry sauce. A nice Pinot to pair with tapas and seafoods. London No 1 $16 And after looking at the cocktail menu, I decided to get the Gin and Tonic. We get to select our Gin flavors and pair with the Tonic recommended by Zuzu. There are a few categories of Gin to select from, which are Juniper, Citrus, Earth & Sea, and Botanical. I got the London No 1 from the Juniper section, with the taste of Croatian juniper, almond, bergamot, and angelica root. I paired it with the Tonic of the month, Tonic Zuzu, with the taste of sour seville orange, tangerine, kumquat, pink peppercorn, lemon, and thyme. The combination was very unique, citrusy with the smell of juniper and spices. Gambas al Ajillo $20 For the food, we got the fresh gulf shrimp with garlic, pequin chili & smoky pimeton. The sauce was slightly spicy which was a great pair with the bread. There were four shrimps with heads on, which was a nice portion. Patatas Bravas $12 We also got the grilled potatoes, which was a popular selection from Spanish tapas restaurants. On the side there was a tomato-Calabrian chili puree & Aioli, which was a little too pungent with the potatoes. 2022 Chappellet Mountain Cuvee $20 The second wine by the glass we got is the Mountain Cuvee from Chappellet. This aromatic wine has a concentrated aroma of dark cherry, blackberry and plum, and the hint of oak and cardamon was obvious too. It was a mix of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, 6% Malbec, and 2% Cabernet Franc. Zuzu Paella $46 We got the paella to share. The Zuzu paella was made with bomba rice, chorizo, shellfish, sofrito and chicken. Idiazabal Flan $9 For dessert, we got the flan which taste more like a moist cheesecake, which was actually a decent sweet ending. read more

We stopped by here for dinner on our weekend trip to Napa, and it wasn't bad but also didn't blow me away. We got the flat iron steak, ceviche, spaghetti squash, queso frito, and shrimp dish. Our favorite was definitely the ceviche followed by the steak. The ceviche was very good, very fresh and tasty! The steak was also very flavorful and tender. In my opinion the other dishes were pretty forgettable unfortunately. The staff was friendly but the restaurant itself is pretty cramped and tight. read more

A hush falls over the bustling Tuesday evening crowd as I approach on a quest for culinary exhilaration. My last visit, a fleeting memory of flavors, left me yearning for a proper review--a full-throated declaration of deliciousness. Tonight, I will not fail. I am seated immediately outside, a gentle breeze kissing my cheeks as the golden hour light bathes the patio. The stage is set. My heart sinks as I learn my desired "The Punch Up" cocktail has been banished from the menu. A tragedy! I pivot, ordering the "Tree Hugger." I'm assured it's not Old Fashioned adjacent. I am lied to. It is very similar to an Old Fashioned, a smoky, complex concoction that, despite the deception, is surprisingly delicious. But my thirst is a desert, and water, like some mythical beast, must be summoned not once, not twice, but three times. It arrives, tasting of grass and earth, a strange terroir I am determined to conquer. I wash it down with the tropical, vibrant "Flyin' Mango." Then, the main event. 1. Heirloom Tomatoes: A plate of perfect, triangular-shaped tomatoes with some kind of white cream (?) arrives, perfectly dressed, glistening in the light. This is not a dish; it is a revelation. I tear into the rustic bread, using it to scoop up every last drop of the tomatoes' sweet, acidic essence. This is what I came for. This is what I needed. 2. Flat Iron Steak: My steak arrives, a masterpiece of a medium-rare. The chef, a silent guardian of the grill, has walked a razor's edge with the temperature. One second more, one second less, and this would have been a catastrophe. But it is perfect--succulent, juicy, and kissed with just the right amount of garlic and oil. * Patatas Bravas: The bravas are a triumph of texture. The potatoes, a golden fortress of crispiness, crackle under my fork. The accompanying sauce arrives in a separate dish, a wise and merciful choice. It's a fine sauce, mind you, but it's not for me. My commitment to the pure, unadulterated crunch of the potato is unshakeable. I leave, a warrior victorious in my quest. This review is complete, my palate satisfied, and the ghost of the "The Punch Up" finally laid to rest. I came, I saw, I ate. This is a cute little place, the food was delicious, you have to try the steak! The cocktails were unique and very tasty. This is a lively place and probably great for some drinks and a quick bite with friends. Service could've been better, main reason for the three stars. read more

Walking downtown today and decided to give this wonderful spot a try. I often walk by and see a lovely sidewalk patio.. reminds me of those seen often in Europe. The food was tasty and the service was amazing! I will definitely put it on our list! read more

Absolutely everything we ordered, from the drinks to the salad and main entrees this was one of my favorite places we tried in downtown Napa! Our server was super attentive and gave us all the best recommendations. He even allowed us to have tastings of the wine so we were happy with what we chose! First time. A fantastic spot for wonderful Spanish food. Easy to miss as it is sandwiched between other restaurants. We were fortunate to get a table w/o a reservation but this place is busy. Ambiance is a casual with great service. Every dish was delicious and full of vibrant and distinct flavors. An absolute must try spot. read more

Visited Zuzu for lunch shortly after they opened, and it was the perfect timing--short line and we were able to order fairly quickly. The food absolutely delivered. The Zuzu paella was awesome and packed with flavor, and the prawn and mussel dish was also amazing. Everything tasted fresh and well-seasoned. Great experience overall and definitely a spot I'd come back to when in Napa! read more

ZuZu was such an amazing experience. The place is not the biggest so it might feel a bit tight, but the vibe is great. Service was impeccable. On to the food, the tapas were all great for the most part. The ceviche kinda had too much avocado, couldn't really taste the fish. The flat iron steak and the garlic shrimp were yummy. The paella was also very good! Pretty filling meal and still had leftovers, but tapas is always great to try multiple different things! read more
Decided to stop by for dinner after wine tasting since it's such a nice area! The vibe sitting outdoor was so pleasant and serene on a Sunday evening but the food was sort of disappointing. The ceviche was waaay more jicama? than it was fish, I felt like I really had to search for the white fish. I ordered the asparagus for the sake of having a veggie but it was bland and the toppings did nothing for the dish. We tried ZuZu for the first time. We selected it because we were looking for a restaurant to go to after wine tasting. We wanted a restaurant where we could share some items and ZuZu was perfect. The service was excellent and the food was good. The prices were also quite fair. Overall, we were pleased. read more
Ordered ceviche, papas bravas, flat iron steak, and paella del dia. The paella was the best. Ceviche barely had any fish. I wasn't too into the sauce included with papas bravas but the potatoes were perfectly crispy and salted. The flat iron steak flavor was okay, almost a bit gamey and wasn't hot when served. The chicken croqueta was decent, had a nice kick and was a bit creamy with peppers. Paella was also good- it had chorizo and chicken inside with clams and cream on top. Good and fast service. Spent the long weekend in Napa and found this spot in downtown. We came around 8:30-9 and were surprised there was no line, although the spot definitely had lots of people. All the dishes looked amazing and we chose 3 dishes: Boquerónes (anchovy and egg over toast), Gambas al Ajillo (shrimp in a tasty sauce), and paella del dia (seafood and chorizo paella). Every dish was packed with flavor and was outstanding!! Didn't think I'd be a fan of the anchovy and egg over toast, but it worked together so perfectly and was well balanced. The shrimp and sauce was packed with flavor and cooked perfectly, with the bread to soak up that sauce. The paella.. wow. So much flavor and they did not skimp on the seafood and chorizo! Last time I had lunch here zuzu, I like the foods. It tastes good. And the service was good. Then today I came again. The foods still taste good, but the service was very poor. We had four people sit down for 5mins, then ask us " are you ready for order?" No smile, no ask for drink. There is not busy. Only one table has customers. Ok, fine I am not expect full service. But..... when there are three white people came in, and my husband go to restroom before they come. The waiter just push the chair very rude and hit my leg. First my husband still came back. Second, if the chair is blocking the way, you can push it a little bit. Also, I don't think the chair is blocked the way because we didn't move the chair to the middle of the way. I so curious we got this service because we are Asia? read more

I don't see any of the servers wearing masks. But you are better off wearing a mask cause safety first and I am a safety freak who prefers wearing a mask to better be safe than sorry.
Reservations only accept a party of up to 4 persons, there's gonna be 5 of us - can we walk in?

Since there is no reservation, what is the average wait time on saturday evening?
Depends on how early or late you go. During prime time we haven't waited more than half an hour for a table for two. Later, say after 830, we've been sat almost right away. It's worth the little wait. :)
