Anyhow it was excellent with tons of onions that adds to the natural sweetness. I'd say they need a little more sauce for the amount of noodles given. Fortunately my cousin's hub got extra sauce with his fried rice so could use that to supplement. The noodles were cooked well and not too soft. Overall very nice. The tangsuyuk was crispy and sauce was good. The pork boiled mandoo were fine too. It's in a small strip mall with valet parking for $3. The best part of the experience is the cheery attitude of the server who spins the menu on his finger while bringing it to your table, jokes around, and overall just great attitude. YES! I am always looking for a good Korean Chinese restaurant. This hit the spot! The restaurant is in an unassuming Ktown plaza. The building is a bit old; it honestly reminded me of some of the local restaurants I frequented in the Korean countryside. The server was very kind & checked on us frequently, often bringing a new magic trick to show us, which was pretty cool. The table next to us looked deep in conversation, so he didn't bother them much. He's good at magic AND reading the vibe! Zzamong is a LA Koreatown staple with the friendliest owner and affordable prices. My friends and I stopped by to grab dinner and were seated fairly quickly. People were constantly streaming in to pick up orders for takeout and the tables were always occupied. I ordered the sauteed jjajangmyun with level 2 spice and I also received the free fried dumplings with the Yelp check-in. We also ordered a small tangsukyuk for the table to share. I love that they have a small and large sizes for the tangsuyuk. The food came out quickly and the portions were pretty big! The level 2 spice had a little kick but I could've gone with a little more spice so I'll definitely try level 3 or 4 next time. The fried dumplings and tangsuyuk were fresh out of the fryer and super crispy. We kept asking for more pickled radish so the owner just came over with a huge plate of them for us. We visited here on the recommendation of a friend. It is a small restaurant. We arrived at opening on a weekday and were immediately seated. They currently have about 5 or 6 indoor tables and another 7 or 8 outside. The parking lot is pretty tight, and it strictly valet. $2.50 for valet is well worth the price. The restroom is generally neutral. The restaurant has reasonable prices and good portions. They have a spicy challenge where your meal is free if you can eat the highest level of spiciness. (However, we weren't here for that.) Check in on Yelp to receive a 6 piece mandoo set. The waiter has a good sense of humor and speaks Korean and English and can help with recommendations. In celebration of the Lunar New Year, we wanted to get some jjajang mein and jumbong noodles, which represent longevity and long life. Our usual go-to restaurant is closed on Tuesdays, so I did some research on Yelp and found Zzamong. Coincidentally, it was one of my saved bookmarks and the perfect opportunity to try it out. Located at the Serrano Plaza on 3rd and Serrano in Koreatown, there is plenty of parking. However, do note that beginning at around 5:00 p.m., which is when I went, there was valet parking. There's also plenty of street parking, but I recommend checking the signs. This was my first time trying Zzamong and I'm quite happy and satisfied. We ordered the Jjajang Myun for $9.00, Zzamong Jjampong for $9.50, and Chicken Fried Rice for $11.50. The prices are going up, but pretty still good for three dishes. I appreciated that the Jjampong had a non-seafood option because oftentimes, it's full of shellfish. I also saw there was a Combo option, which includes both the Jjajang Myun AND Jjampong as well as the small sweet and sour pork and 6 piece dumplings (beef or pork). Definitely would try that out next time. The food is good, the service is nice, and that Jjampong is SPICY. Sweet lord LOLOL. I did ask for it less spicy, but there was definitely a fun kick LOLOL. We went to a one-year-old party in the neighborhood of Koreatown with my family. We were searching for places to eat in Koreatown after the party. The prices at ZZamong, which I found, seem fair, but parking is a problem. We were about to leave the Valet parking lot when we fortunately discovered a spot right outside the street. To get a seat, we had to wait about 30 minutes. There is a dish for which I have searched for more than ten years, and it just so happens that this restaurant serves it. The dish is known as "Kkanpoong Chicken/Shrimps." incredibly eager to place a large food order. The food arrived quickly and was served by some small Korean side dishes. There was a server called "Q," and I observed him as he served the customers. He was courteous, quick, and even performed magic tricks for them. He assisted us in bringing the food out and entertained us by performing magic tricks. He even made my daughter a paper puppy. My family and I had a great experience and great time here. Came by here with some friends on a Sunday night at around 7pm. We were seated right away and the place wasn't too packed. Staff kept the doors open so it was a little chilly inside, but that just made the warmth of the food all that much better. I've had Jjajangmyun at a few different places, but what I liked about Zzamong is the vegetables actually. Lots of places skimp on giving you anything, but onions and cut everything thinly. But here I got some great zucchini cuts and I'm not a huge zucchini lover, but it pairs well with the thick black bean sauce. There's pork with the dish, but for the dish being around 8 dollars, it's nothing out of the ordinary. Still the fattier pork pieces with the vegetables and noodles make for a happy and hearty meal. I got mine non-spicy, but my friend got the lowest level of spice and said it adds up. So don't order something hella spicy on your first go around (the owner said level 3 spice is the same as those viral, instant Korean spicy noodles). Overall, for the price point, I would say it exceeded my expectations and is great value. It's actually better than other spots I've tried in the suburbs that charge more. The vegan options look great too (per my friend who got the vegan chow mein) and I'm definitely curious about giving those a try next time I'm there. I credit the vegan options for the better than average vegetables in my dish, but am also happy it's offered here so I can bring my vegan friends. I utilized the valet for parking because it's only $2 (plus tip). The thing I like about this plaza is that it's clear everyone working in it is their own little community as the valet guy helped out another tenant out of her parking spot (so my car felt very safe too). Service is great and the owner is hilarious and kind. He must've come up to our table every 10-15 minutes with a new magic trick to share with us. Zzamong is probably the most popular spot for jjajangmyeon in LA. Their main gimmick is their range of spice levels and crazy-fast service. This place has its merits, but I think there are probably better jjajangmyeon spots you could find. The service at Zzamong is commendable, especially when it's not too busy. If you opt for their signature jjajangmyeon, you can expect to be seated and served extremely quickly (~5 min). That kind of efficiency is appreciated, especially during lunch breaks or when you're in a hurry. They also offer valet parking in their lot (I think mainly at nighttime), which is rarely filled to capacity. As their staple dish, the jjajangmyeon is decent. It's a fairly large dish so you'll definitely leave full, but the sauce felt somewhat lacking in flavor/bland. The noodles were thick and hearty which helped salvage the overall taste, but it was still disappointing that the sauce missed the mark since that's where a bulk of the flavor comes from. For their jjajangmyeon, they have 10 levels of spiciness. If you can finish level 10 in one sitting, they'll add your photo to their wall. A lot of people have beaten level 10, but that does not mean it's easy. Be careful with even the lower spice levels because the heat tends to build up quickly. If you're dining in, make sure to check in on Yelp and they'll give you six complimentary fried dumplings (limit 1 per table). While these dumplings are enjoyable, they don't necessarily steal the show. Nevertheless, it's a nice gesture and adds some nice variety to the meal. Another good dish we recommend adding is their sweet and sour pork. It provides a satisfying crunch to your meal, and the sauce is served separately, so you can control how sweet you want it. Both are nice side dishes to share with friends, but not things that I would specifically come back for. Tired and ready for dinner, we headed over to Zzamong for nosh. One of my friends is Indian and doesn't eat meat and this won her from the selection of vegan friendly places to eat. She had the Vegan Jjajangmyun and our other friend and I had japchae and some veggie egg rolls. Place was small but it seemed like a friendly local spot as dinner guests casually rolled on -some I heard them tell the server said they were craving for this or that on the menu. Speaking of the server, he was an entertaining guy with his silly tray and serveware tricks. And there was also origami. Not the best looking place inside as it looked like a hodgepodge of stuff but the welcome and service makes you not notice. Kind of like getting invited to your cooky ajussi's pad for dinner.
