[[For the out of towners]] this is located in Korea Town in Los Angeles county. It is in a tiny strip of stores in the very corner. When you first arrive they will offer vallet parking in their lot which is cash only ($2). Depending on the time and day you go there may or may not be available parking on the street and down the block. Once you find parking and walk in the lovely aroma will greet you first. When we got there we were also greeted by the front of the house staff who was very busy. You can easily tell this place has a ton of customers constantly because everyone was working very hard to keep up with the pace. There are only a few things on the menu but from glancing at other tables I can see most people come here for the jjajangmyeon. Which is exactly why we came here. We decided to try the stir fry so I got an order and so did my husband. The waiter didnt inform us but that turned out to be way too much food. You can split that dish 3 ways easily. We also tried the egg rolls which were very tasty and the steamed dumplings which were not to our preference. Since everyone around was rushing and a lot of people were coming in and out you sort of feel like you need to rush as well. No pressure, it is what it is. Tired and ready for dinner, we headed over to Zzamong for nosh. One of my friends is Indian and doesn't eat meat and this won her from the selection of vegan friendly places to eat. She had the Vegan Jjajangmyun and our other friend and I had japchae and some veggie egg rolls. Place was small but it seemed like a friendly local spot as dinner guests casually rolled on -some I heard them tell the server said they were craving for this or that on the menu. Speaking of the server, he was an entertaining guy with his silly tray and serveware tricks. And there was also origami. Not the best looking place inside as it looked like a hodgepodge of stuff but the welcome and service makes you not notice. Kind of like getting invited to your cooky ajussi's pad for dinner. My partner and I enjoy watching mukbang online, and we just happened to watch this girl eat eight bowls of jjajangmyun and jjamppong the night before, so of course the next morning, we're both hardcore craving it and are on a mission to find some in Ktown! This was our second time visiting Zzamong, and it was better than the first time. Our first time visiting was during COVID times, so it was pretty busy, we were eating outside in the parking lot, and I don't think we experienced the full goodness of this place. This time, we arrived when the restaurant wasn't as busy, and sat at a nice table inside. Our server was just as likeable this second time around as the first time (I'm pretty sure it was the same guy...how many servers like to play little table tricks with the customers?). We ordered a standard jjajangmyun, seafood jjamppong, and spicy garlic chicken. Between the two of us, we destroyed the entire meal, and it was a lovely time. ALL of these dishes were delicious, the jjajangmyun I wish I ordered the sauteed or with some meat or seafood with it, but kimchee and radishes were still lovely with the noodles. This place is delicious! Not sure if it was because it was right after bouldering... but they gave us kimchi, onions, radish on the side and we had sweet and sour chicken and black bean noodles. I really liked the seafood that was on the side with black Bean noodles especially the mussels! Sweet and sour chicken was tender and flavorful. The first time I tried Korean Black Bean noodle was when I was in college. The thing is, it came from an instant noodle bag so I've never got to try the real thing but have been curious ever since. I had Zzamong on my radar for a while, and was waiting for the right time to finally try it. It's been years since that day, but I finally got to go! My friend who already dined at Zzamong knew what to order, so I let her do all the ordering for me and boy did we do it big! She ordered us Combo B, which came with jjajangmyun (black bean noodle), jjampong (spicy seafood noodle soup), sweet and sour pork, and dumplings! The black bean noodle was delicious, nice soft and bouncy noodles, with a yummy thick sauce. The jjampong was a bit spicy for my taste, but bearable enough to eat. I enjoyed the soup broth and noodles, which was perfect for a chilly afternoon. The fried dumplings were also good, and the sweet and sour pork was nice and crispy. I love how the spiciness can be customized for only $1 more and how they also have combos, making it easy to try everything. Went here on Saturday morning around 11:30am, so very early for lunch. Greeted warmly by the server with a lot of jokes and magic tricks -- I thought this was just because there weren't many customers, but turns out it's just REALLY fun and friendly customer service. It's a place where I'd suggest tipping 25% because the service is so great. I ordered a small jjajangmyun (not on menu, but on a little placard on the table), my partner ordered a vegan chow mein with tofu. The food came out right away (seriously, less than 3 minutes), and I was immediately hit by the chow mein's wonderful aroma. Both dishes were a hit. The tofu, especially, was great -- crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, very flavorful. This was my first experience eating jjajangmyun, so I can't compare, but judging from the other reviews it's high quality. I thought the small might be too big to eat in one go, but I loved it so much and was able to finish (and didn't feel too stuffed afterward). As for the ambiance, this looks like a no-frills place that, to me, usually means the food's gonna be really good. Feels like it caters to locals as opposed to tourists, but then the many photos on the walls of people who've braved their spiciest dish show that they get a lot of business -- and deservedly so!!! read more

We have eaten at this location dozens of times and have also ordered delivery dozens of times. This place was literally my go-to place for JJajangmyeon. We are intimately familiar with how the sauce should taste. Today we were delivered a sauce that tasted absolutely NOTHING like it. It lacked that special Zzamong flavor that it usually has. There was something seriously OFF about the sauce tonight. It had a "sourish" flavor and lacked seasoning. It was disgusting, FULL STOP. Take a look at my pic, that's how I am trashing my food. I couldn't get past 5-6 bites. This is inedible as far as I'm concerned. And after spending $65, and not being able to enjoy our main dishes, I am severely disappointed. I'm not an expert as far as jjajangmyun is concerned, but Zzamong hit the spot for delicious and comforting food. I've been wanting to try jjajangmyun for a while and knew the Zzamong was one of the go-to spots for the Korean-style. They have a decent-sized menu with different options for jjajangmyun, some meat dishes, and even a few special combos. Going with a friend, we ordered the stir-fried jjajangmyun on spice level one and large orange chicken which was plenty of food! The jjajangmyun was delicious, with so much seafood! Even at spice level one, you can still taste the spice but it's not overpowering so if you just want a hint of heat, I'd recommend this level. The orange chicken was a lovely crisp and full of tangy orange flavor. Can't go wrong with either of them! You also get a couple of small banchans (randish, pickle, raw onion) if you dine-in. They have both a couple of indoor tables currently as well as five outdoor tables under some canopy tents. Service is quick as at most spots-- no complaints. There is a small lot for parking that looks pretty busy, but there's plenty of street parking around. I'd recommend arriving before 7 so you don't have to wait. read more

After hearing many positive things about Zzamong, I knew I had to try some Chinese Korean dishes here. Swung by on a Saturday night and originally intended to order take out (you can do it online via their website that leads to a Toast page - the stated wait was 20 min for us, but I think they overestimate), but after seeing their outdoor dining setup (some outdoor tables, maybe 2-3 tables per section that is semi-closed off by tarps), we decided to eat in so we could get our dishes fresh. They were happy to accommodate and almost immediately after we sat, our dishes were coming down (much faster since we expected 20 min since when we placed the online order). The Jjajang Myun is real good - medium-thick chewy noodles in a flavorful sauce complete with meat and veggies. Great value as well - would recommend. Will have to come back and get this at a spicer level. The Kkanpoong Pork was decent but not my favorite. A little too tart and the sauce was too gelatinous for me. Would maybe recommend getting the chicken and sauce separately so you can retain the batter on the chicken longer. Seafood Jjampong - great for a cold night as it's a warm, delicious broth complete with noodles and seafood (shrimp, mussels, squid). I work nearby and had been wanting to try this place for a while because I love noodles and the photos on yelp were mouthwatering. Finally decided to try it and it was love at first bite. I got the jjang myun (black bean noodles) that they are most known for. They have a scale of spice from 0-10 I think and I love spicy food so I had to try.
