This place is amazing! It's on a side street, there is plenty of parking. It seems small when you first enter but it has 3 dining rooms! And the food is mouth watering. I met the new GM Katie and she was such a sweet heart the vibes seem so calm but yet fun since she started. We came later into the night where it wasn't too busy so she gave us a tour of the place and recommended great dishes for apps and deserts. Will be back regularly. read more

Tried thier Bloody Mary with Titos Vodka along with thier eggs benidict l wasnt disappointed. As you can see my daughters appetite was a little bigger than mine. When the waiter came she ordered the French toast with Carmelized bananas and fruit then asked for a side of bacon and a egg... I said you. It's a beautiful spot! I think we went on an off night. We were there over 2 hours because it took so long to order drinks then get our food. We got crab cakes which were great, then a Cesar which really needed more dressing & fresh pepper. We went here for steak and it was a little underwhelming so if you're going here maybe try the pasta? My steak frites needed salt or more chimichurri or something and wasn't hot barely room temp. My boyfriend got the filet which was good but again not hot. Over all just a little underwhelming for what we paid. However nice ambiance and I'm sure it was just an off night. read more

I had mine with a side of lobster bisque (because I friggin' love lobster bisque). Our handsome bartender was friendly and efficient. I was truly so excited to try this place. I found it on social media and my other friend who I was having dinner with mentioned it was in an article for top 10 hidden gems of Boston. Walking in, the place is beautiful. Awesome flowers, decor and lighting. Our reservation was at 7:15 and we weren't seated until 7:50/8:00pm. I could tell our waiter was overwhelmed but he was also friendly so being patient wasn't a problem. Appetizers came- the shellfish tower was missing a main ingredient (and the reason why we ordered it) it was missing stone crab. The other app was very nice tuna crudo. Then about 45 minutes later our salads arrived, which clearly our waiter forgot about because the table was set with steak knives. Both times for the appetizer course and the salad course, we had to ask for share plates. Our drinks stayed empty and we waited long for them to come. I was actually the one refilling water for the table. Then the main course came. My girlfriend's entree had a rubber band in her dish... the manager briefly came over and apologized. My gf mentioned she didn't want anything but they brought over a new entree twice that we sent back. You'd also think at a fine dining restaurant they would clear empty glasses and crumb the table. It was pretty much a mess of an experience. I mentioned to the server the shellfish tower was missing crab and he kind of just shrugged his shoulders and agreed it was suppose to have crab. We left the restaurant after 10:30. An almost 4 hour dining experience that should have been 2 hours tops. They offered desert on them but we just wanted to leave. I was upset we still paid for the tower and they took off a round of drinks. To be honest, I gave an extra star because the food was great (other than the rubber band) things happen, it was probably from the produce. Either way, sadly as much as we enjoyed some of the food and the ambience, we definitely will not be retuning. The service was not good at all. Even the host stand needs improvement. The main woman at the host stand with black hair was extremely rude. If you're not going to sit someone almost 45 minutes after their reservation, at least notify them of what is going on. My wife and I dined here on Christmas Eve and it was an absolutely delightful experience. The welcome was warm, the decor was beautiful (even though the tables are a tad too close to each other), the service was impeccable (Anthony was fantastic), and the food was delicious. One can't ask for much more! Personally, I found the music to be a bit too "disco" sounding for a 1920s style restaurant (jazz would be better suited to the overall ambiance), but I really am nitpicking. This could become our "go to" Boston restaurant. read more

The menu was limited and with the few items, our waiter still got the orders wrong. I could give him the benefit of the doubt, but he blatantly stated that he put in the wrong order and just looked at us, like we can just take what he put in. Or what, replace it with the thing we actually ordered?!? They did not come back to refill any water. And after he gave us the bill, charge us, and we are about to sign, he comes back to tell us that he charged us for the wrong table and wanted our cards back to rering us. There were no desirable two tops in the restaurant; all of the tables were small and pushed very closely together. Most of the servers and bartenders seemed to be in the weeds and unable to provide good service, likely due to the amount of tables they were trying to turn. Nice place, great atmosphere, well-designed. The food, however, is slightly better than mediocre -- fine, but uninventive and lacking creativity. The menu isn't exactly classic, and doesn't really achieve anything contemporary or inspiring, which would be fine if not for the price point. For example, the shrimp cocktail -- with only 4 shrimp! -- was a very standard (and small) portion for $27; the steak frites, while tasty enough, was a flank steak, not the traditional NY strip -- a cheaper cut of meat that downgraded the experience. Overall, we enjoyed the experience of the restaurant but felt that the menu itself didn't deliver to the level it should, given the cost. I would recommend a drink here, but I don't know that I would eat here again. read more

Joined a group of colleagues for a work dinner at this restaurant in the heart of Beacon Hill on a Wednesday evening. We had a reservation in advance and would recommend doing that as it was quite full. Found the quaint ambiance with low ceilings and low-lit interior and a labyrinth of rooms to be warm and welcoming. The service was prompt and friendly. I started with a Mezcal cocktail which was well balanced and followed it up with a "Lunch" by Maine Brewing which they had on tap. Our large group shared a number of appetizers that were all wonderful, including coconut shrimp, calamari, artichoke dip, and crab cakes. I had their scallops for dinner. They were perfectly cooked, and the portion was more than I could eat. It's quite spendy, as you would imagine, but I enjoyed the meal and would return again. read more

Heard good things about this place and was surprised I didn't know anything about it. Made reservations via open table for a Thursday night for 6:45 pm. Had a wonderful walk through Beacon Hill and got there a little early. Was warmly greeted upon my arrival and they sat me before the rest of my party arrived. The bar area was pretty crowded and they took me throughout the restaurant to the very back of the establishment. It is a lot bigger than I had thought. Nina greeted me and told me she would be helping us throughout the evening. The rest of my party showed up on time. The back area was very cold and they needed to turn off the air conditioning. Late summer, I'm sure this happens often. The back room filled up quickly and the place became very loud. We look at the wine list for a long time and finally decided on a bottle to start our evening. Wine was excellent. We shared tuna tartare and crab cakes for an appetizer. Tuna was excellent, crab cakes (balls) were average. I had the lobster tortellini , others had the pull apart lobster and the sea scallops. The lobster tortellini was good, a little heavy on the sauce. The sea scallops were cooked a little too long. We share a dessert. The food was overall very good. Our main issue was the slow service after our entrees arrived. And to top it off we waited close to twenty minutes after finishing our shared dessert for the bill. We were in no hurry but we were in the back of the restaurant and didn't see Nina for sometime. The location is excellent, so I could see myself going back at some point...but maybe just for a cocktail. read more

It pains me to write this review... I was excited to try 1928, the decor, the transformation from Lala Rokh days and tbh they had me at deviled eggs. Sadly like others have pointed out here, they are struggling with delivering an experience. It appeared there was only one server for the entire front area where we were sat yet there were two ladies at the front desk which tells me resources are not properly allocated. We were sat 25 minutes before being offered water and taking a drink order, given the wait I pounced and ordered some apps as well. We ordered the smoke show which was terrible. It tasted like watered down scotch with pepper sprinkled. Not interesting at all. It was probably an hour from when we received the apps that the server came by again to take our entree order... The decor is great and the food was solid but given the experience I cannot see us coming back. read more

My new favorite date night dinner. This place is adorable. Be prepared to sit at a non-traditional table. The drinks are pricey, even by Boston standards at $18-22 a cocktail, but the quality supports the price. The interesting aspect of the menu is the entrees felt very reasonable but salads and appetizers are almost the same price. That said the coconut shrimp is delectable and tastes like a tropical vacation. The chopped salad was steak house quality, if I had one critique it had slightly too much dressing for me. My husband and I split the salad, which was perfect and the waiter brought it out on two plates. I got the scallops and risotto. A favorite dish of mine and perhaps the most well cooked and picturesque scallops I've ever had with flavorful mushroom risotto. My husband got the daily special - surf 'n turf with lobster and filet. His steak was well cooked and his lobster was high quality. Had a nice little dinner here with my boyfriend last night... We had the calamari to start, I had the scallops and he ordered the cacio e pepe - all delicious! The bartender/waitress with red hair was lovely and attentive. Keep in mind this is a small restaurant, when we were first seated it felt as if we were sitting with another family at dinner, we asked to move to a different section and they immediately accommodated us to a better spot. The word "Train Wreck" comes to mind. From the beginning, when we arrived for our 5:00 reservation that the hostess couldn't find, I quickly made sure to re-reserve as it was a birthday celebration. While we waited at the bar for the rest of our party to arrive (about 5 feet from the hostess stand), we decided we should be considerate of the crowd and sit at our table while we continued to wait for the remaining members of the party. Well, the hostess took it upon herself to cancel our reservation, rather than step the 5 feet and ask us if we still wanted our table, and proceeded to tell us that we would now have to wait for another table. We asked for the manager who stated that "we can't wait all night for people to take their table". Real top-notch customer service! Eventually, we were seated at another table where they made our party of 5 sit at a table of 4. Just keeps getting better. A waiter who was absent for most of the night. I think the staff was missing the day they taught that the customer was an important part of the business, rather than being treated like a nuisance. Such a unique and beautiful place. It's a shame they don't have the staff to match. read more

Wow what a bizarre night. From the hostess being really unwilling to get us a table even though we had reservations. We were waiting for our 5th person and we were at the bar. A person in our party went to the hostess and said your table has been taken. Like what? You see us at the bar? And this was a birthday celebration as well. The manager did seat us at a table finally. I text my cousin who owns a hair salon right around the corner. I told her to come for a glass of wine. She sat at our table right next to us and the server/manager came up and said you can't sit there. A party of 3 came along and that seat remained empty:-( And this person didn't even offer her another seat at the other end of the table. My cousin left disappointed and as she walked out met some women (not local from Colorado) who also had a bad experience there. Oh, and also, what is with the parfait glass half filled when I asked for a martini? And that martini (pictured to the left with the olives in it) was $22.Insane. Will never go back here. We were blessed to be in such good company, but it never should have been this way, especially with the cost of our drinks and dinner (which was good at best). Do not go here if you have food allergies. I went to 1928 last weekend to celebrate my 40th birthday with my husband and parents. My mom has celiac so cannot eat gluten. We informed the server of this and he recommended items on the menu that she could eat. When her appetizer came it had crackers on the side and no acknowledgement of her celiac. When her main course can, again no comment about it being gluten free even though 2 others ordered the same. Once we were home she was sick with her usual gluten reaction. I emailed the restaurant to inform them and no reply or acknowledgment. Aside from that the cocktails and food were good but I won't be returning. read more
