We booked our move right around the time Hurricane Hilary was supposed to hit. The company was excellent at communicating with us and being flexible should we need to change the date. Come moving day, the movers showed up exactly on time. They were very polite, super fast, and generally just lovely to be around. Upon arriving in the new house, they took care to make sure we were happy with how everything looked and even shuffled furniture around when we weren't quite sure what layout we wanted. We hired them to move our 2000 square feet house. Got the 2 trucks and 4 movers as recommended by Derek the owner. I was glad we took his suggestion as our house, garage and patio stuff filled 2 trucks. The movers worked together and got the house packed up rather quickly. They were super friendly and after having some bad experiences with other movers, we were pleasantly surprised by how nice these guys were. One if the movers accidentally broke a small glass towarda the end of the day.and was so apologetic. It wasn't a big deal, but I swear he apologized like 20 times.... 1st Choice is my favorite moving company ever-- and I've used many having lived around the world. In fact, we have relied on 1st Choice for our last four family moves including one less than a week ago. Derek could not be nicer, helpful and more professional coordinating and estimating the move. And the packers and movers were unfailingly good at their jobs and polite (I was addressed as "sir" when asked a question). Who knew? Old fashioned customer service still lives. Plus, the movers were light hearted, joking with each other and having fun. The added big bonus is that their cost is a very good value--compared to other companies-- and especially considering their quality of service. Trust me: I've experience a bad mover! On a move a few years back from La Jolla to Del Mar, an expensive company we used had 4 of the six movers leave the job before the trucks were fully unpacked at our new place-- leaving two men to finish. Upset with their co-workers and complaining to me that they weren't getting paid by their company for the extra hours it would now take to unload the truck (though I certainly paid full price to the company), the two remaining movers threatened to unload heavy furniture from the truck only to the driveway and not in the house! Best Moving Experience EVER! From scheduling with Derek and the walk-through estimate to the last box being unloaded at our new home, 1st Choice Movers were friendly, pleasant, professional, fair, and FAST! They are the BEST! We have used them 2 times in the past 2 years. They moved us out of our large family home into a rental house while we looked for a smaller home, then they moved all of our stuff in the rental (and boxes upon boxes in storage) to our new home. We don't have a single complaint. The team that just moved us this May is definitely the "A Team." We had a big move - just locally - but needed a lot of help! - and interviewed 5 movers. As military hrats, we have moved over 14 times and are pretty picky about how we get packed and moved. Derek and his packing and moving teams went above and beyond! One of the few in the interview process who offered a walkthrough, as well as took extra time to explain how they would pack and move our antiques and artwork (over 50 pieces). Attention to detail is everything in a move. Also, easily agreed and scheduled separate packing and moving days. Proof is in the actual doing, though, and the teams exceeded our expectations. Packers were unbelievably careful and asked us all along the way to ensure they were doing it how we wanted it organized. Not one item was broken or damaged. The moving team were careful, did not rush, and again, asked questions all along, confirming placement, needs, etc. We have already used 1st Choice again just to help with a secondary garage move, and cannot recommend them highly enough! read more

These guys are the best movers that I have ever used! I found them on Yelp last year just before I got married and was ready to move to Imperial Beach. With all of the positive reviews, how could I go wrong? I called them and had constant communication with Derek via phone and email and felt reassured that everything was going to be taken care of (which it was). There were no issues and when I unpacked everything, nothing was broken because it was wrapped so well. They also gave me a 6 percent cash discount which was super cool! I always said that when I move again, I will only use these guys. Fast forward a year later when the lease was up on my apartment. The only place that I called and thought about was 1st Choice Movers. They helped move my wife and I from Imperial Beach to Chula Vista (yesterday) and did a super job! I was especially impressed when they had to push my couch (at the new residence) up and over the balcony (on the second floor!) when it couldn't fit through the front door. They not only took it upstairs but then took it back downstairs and hoisted it up! It's a good thing that there were three guys (plus myself) or that never would have been possible! I also have to give special thanks to the packers that came the day before the move because if it wasn't for their help, the move wouldn't have gone as smooth as it did. I was so disappointed with 1st Choice Movers. They did not wear masks when they entered my home. And when we asked them to wear a mask two of the men informed us that they forgot their mask and tried to reassure us that they didn't have COVID. And when prompt how they new that (did they get tested) they didn't have an answer. During this pandemic I would expect essential business like movers to take the State, County, and City guidelines seriously. In addition, the movers were reading through our things when they delivered our package to our house. This was an invasion of privacy and I didn't pay people to laugh at my possessions. A+++++ satisfaction! 1st Choice Movers definitely lives up to the name! I was definitely hesitant to hire movers again. This was my second time hiring movers. The first company [who shall not be named], ended up busting holes in my wall the day before I was supposed to hand over keys to the new owner. yikes! Derek at "1st Choice Movers" was my first contact for the company. Right away he was able to make me feel at ease. We talked, in detail, about the move and each task that had to take place for it to be successful. We planned out the moving day and he quickly sent an estimate. Which ultimately was more than what I actually paid for even when adding a $100 tip! So I paid less than what was estimated. On the day of, I met Jose, Alex and Nico at the storage unit. They were 10 minutes early even! They all introduced themselves, were extremely friendly and it felt like they already knew their roles and responsibilities. You know that feeling when you're in a team and reach a point where you could finish each others sentences, thats what it felt like with this crew. Right away, the first thing we did was a walk-through of where the storage unit was [3rd story of the building], what items needed to be moved and everything in between point A to point B. From that point on, the guys went to work and handled business. What was important to me, was that our items were handled with care as if it was their own stuff they were moving. Was extremely happy to see that was the case. Even when unloading and moving heavy items up the stairs, they covered the walls and railing with blankets to make sure the home wasn't damaged. Watching them work, they would back each other up a lot. It was obvious this was a team effort and they enjoyed working as a unit, cracking jokes, making it a fun time. This was my first time using both packers and movers. I've had to move several times in the past few years and have always done it myself (rented a truck, asked for friends help, etc.). This move would be pretty big one for me and my husband - about two hours away from San Diego, and booking with 1st Choice Movers was the best decision we could have made to make our move so incredibly stress-free! Derek was the one whom we coordinated with and he was always quick to respond and clear with his communication. He was upfront about the cost and the final estimate actually ended up being a bit lower than what he quoted to us originally! The day before the big move the packing team showed up - Brenda, Lily, and Vanessa. We were informed that they would arrive at 9am, but they were told to come at 8:30am from management - no big deal at all though, just a slight miscommunication (and coming early never hurts!). The three ladies were professional, super nice, and worked quickly. If they had any questions about whether something needed to get packed or not, they didn't hesitate to ask. We're currently in the process of unpacking at our new place, and we have yet to see anything that's broken or damaged. They finished packing up our 1 bedroom apartment in just under 2.5 hours. The big move was the next day and Alex, Jerzy, and Lalo were the moving team - they showed up right on time. Like the packing team, they were professional and efficient. They were able to load things up in about 2 hours and unload in 1 short hour! My husband and I were amazed at how quick they were. We also did buy them lunch and expected them to take a longer break, but after about 10 minutes of eating they continued working hard. The total move day was about 5.5 hours for us (2 hours to load, 2 hours to drive, a little over 1 hour to unload). If you have any anxiety about moving, definitely hire this team! They will put you at ease and allow you to have a stress-free move day (which I never thought could be possible before this!). We can't emphasize enough how each team member was extremely professional, efficient, and friendly. Also, in these times especially (but even during non-pandemic times), if someone does an amazing job and you're pleased with the work - give them a tip! this is my first time hiring movers. I scheduled my move one month prior due to covid and Derek was very responsive to all my inquiries leading up to my appointment this weekend. used the $50 off yelp deal and got a 6% discount for paying cash woohoo! Alex and Sal(sp?) arrived a little before 9 AM and were ready to roll. I only had a little less than 30 boxes and storage crates and a few furnitures and it took them less than 18 mins to load them up in the truck. they were fast, efficient, friendly and careful in handling the items. when we reached our destination, they even helped relocate heavy furniture to the second floor. I found out about 1st choice movers through a personal referral and I can't wait to refer them to friends and family in need of reliable and trustworthy movers! I have used First Choice Movers three times over the past several years for moving and packing roughly 2500 square feet worth of stuff, and I wouldn't even consider working with anybody else. We have hired movers numerous times over the years and our previous experiences ranged from so-so to absolutely terrible. Derek and his team were the first to prove that a moving company can make a stressful time LESS stressful rather than adding to what is an already stressful time under the best of circumstances. Derek's communication has always been prompt and straightforward and the movers were super pleasant to work with, efficient and total problem solvers. By problem solvers I'll give an example- we rented a storage unit ahead of time for use during our renovation that on the face of it could not possibly fit our truckload of stuff when we arrived. The movers took on the challenge with an excellent attitude and MADE IT WORK which saved us significant dollars as compared to having to rent a larger unit or a second small unit for many months. We are hiring them again without reservation for the move back, cannot provide a stronger recommendation to Derek and 1st Choice Movers. read more

This was my first time ever moving myself to a new place using a professional moving service. Did a lot of research and found the info on their website easily, including the pricing, plus a mention of including boxes. What really sealed it for me was how fast Derek responded by email; he gets a thumbs up! I had a luxury of a "slow move" this time and was able to plan/pack in advance, but was still nervous. That said, things went great all around, started about 9AM and ended about 2PM, including the part where my bed was set up! (That was the #1 reason I wanted to hire pro movers.) The guys were great: professional, good humored/natured, worked crazy hard, asked the right questions, actually took care with my stuff, and were overall just fantastic. Moving is a pain, and no one likes it, but 1st Choice Movers made the experience much more bearable! I had done moves with a U-Haul myself in the past, and I don't think I can't ever go back to that, especially with these guys around. Jasper and Roy came promptly at 8:45 am. They inspected our items, filled out the paperwork, and immediately went to work. They wrapped up all our furniture and was able to get everything up and down the stairs. The place I was moving out of had a hilly driveway so they were able to park the truck and load accordingly. We had two bedroom apartment worth of stuff, and they were able to get it all done in 3.5 hours. They also operate on the highest level of integrity! Since they took some time to back the truck and stopped to get drinks (we had no juices or even water cause everything was packed), they took off this time from our total. With the Yelp deal ($25 for $50) and 6% discount for paying in cash, it was such a good deal. It was only a little more if we were to rent Uhaul and ask our friends to do the dirty work. I got quotes form different companies and 1st Choice Movers had the best deal. I highly recommend this moving company! read more

He also followed up a day before the move to confirm the move and give me some tips on why moves especially where i lived(And they had prior experience with moves there) might take longer than expected and how to avoid that by being prepared. On moving day, Luis, Sandy and Sal called and gave us a heads up and showed up on time. They took great care of our furniture wrapping it and making sure they don't hit any walls etc. At no point did I feel that they were wasting time or slacking to run up the clock. We had most of the things to be moved(non-furniture) boxed up already. The unloading was smooth as well. They were courteous and very professional.
